CHAPTER TWENTY  TWO

Margaret Buchanan was waiting nervously outside the room in which the
parole board was sitting waiting to be called in.  Her lawyer had suggested
applying for early parole because the prison system was so overcrowded that
she might just stand a chance of being let out, but with strict parole
conditions. He also explained that because she was a sex offender it was
costing the government a lot of money to keep her in protective custody, in
fact she had already been beaten up a couple of times already.

He went on to tell her that if she did get paroled she could then apply to
the courts for the custody of her son Garrett, but the chances of that
being granted were very remote.

Finally she was called in to sit in front of three people who would decide
her fate for the next year or so. They asked her numerous questions which
she tried to answer as best she could before being told that they would
announce their decision in due course and then she was escorted back to her
cell block. While she was confident that she had answered all the questions
admirably it was hard to read into the faces of the parole board, what they
were thinking or what their decision would be.

Meanwhile Garrett, her son and Edwin were settling into the hostel.  The
fact that they were being allowed to share a room, well two rooms in fact
with a connecting door made for an ideal situation for their relationship
to blossom, even further than it already had.

Edwin had to go back to the hospital every second day or so for blood tests
and treatment but he was steadily improving and gaining weight which
pleased his doctors. When he had to go to the hospital either Keith
Jamieson or Sally took him with Garrett tagging along.

In between times Edwin had joined Jonathon Mars classes at the hostel
because he was still not strong enough to attend school. In fact he more
than likely would be home schooled all the time.


Keith and Sally had discussed what career path Garrett should take once
Edwin was stronger.  They both thought that Garrett should go back to the
special school and continue learning a trade.  They hadn't approached
Garrett about this yet being they were still unsure themselves if this was
the right way to go.  Keith had concerns that he would meet up with his old
partner Jake at the school and this might cause a few problems because Jake
admitted to Keith that he still had strong feelings for Garrett. Plus
Garrett himself had expressed a desire to go into nursing or maybe even
become a doctor. Putting him into the right course for this career path
might also be a problem.

Jonathon Mars had finally tracked down the parole officer for Jared Dempsey
but was annoyed by the guys complacency, "Look sir, the prisons are
overcrowded so more and more are being let out.  That means my workload
increases, yet we get no extra staff.  I have no idea where half of the
one's on my list are or what they are getting up to because I don't have
the time to go chasing them.  If I report them to the police they too don't
have the manpower to go looking and are only interested if they commit a
felony."

"Well Jared has committed a felony by breaching the order banning him from
approaching Davey, so where do we go from here?"

He heard a deep sigh come down the line and then the parole officer said,
"I'll send out word that I want to talk to him and when he comes in I will
explain that what he is doing is wrong and if he keeps it up he will finish
up back in prison.  Not that a threat like that will make much difference
because he knows they don't have room for him right now and the best thing
would be some sort of halfway house with restrictions and curfews."

An exasperated Jonathon thanked him for his time and slammed down the
phone. He also realised that everything the guy had said was true, the
prison system right now was falling apart and there was nothing he could
do.

While Jonathon was busy on the phone Davey and Johnny were heading off to
school with the rest of the guys.  During the morning television
announcements which are seen in every classroom the headmaster came on to
congratulate the gymnastic team and especially Davey for winning the area
competition.  This brought forth cheers from every classroom and the sound
echoed throughout the school. With three cheers ringing out for Davey.

During the lunch break Davey received so many pats on the back that he
thought his shoulder blades would join his ribs.  It was during lunch that
his older brother from his adopted family asked him if he could come along
to a meeting at the hostel after school. Having not the slightest idea what
this was about, he agreed and spent the rest of the day wondering what it
was all about.

When they got back from school that afternoon his new mother and older
brother were waiting for him and Johnny.  They went into one of the smaller
rooms so they could talk in private. Both Davey and Johnny couldn't
understand what this was all about and were worried to the point of being
almost sick. All their fears were put to rest when his mother spoke, "You
have nothing to worry about son, all we wanted to do was explain a few
things regarding you're Karate school. With you being busy with your
training you haven't been to the school much and don't really know what is
going on.

In fact the school is growing and growing and as you know I have been
looking after the finances and the general running of the school. So much
so that it is outgrowing the space we have here and slowly is becoming a
seven day a week venture, not only in the evenings but during the day as
well. We have moms who want to join during the day, so your brother has
come up with a plan which will help the school and also make some money for
you."

"But mom when I started the school I had no intensions of making money from
it, that's not what it was all about." Davey said by way of a protest. His
older brother interrupted him, "We know that Davey but if you are to become
a full time athlete whom Jonathon tells us could well be in the cards, then
you will need some financial assistance. Plus right now our mother is
finding it more and more time consuming handling all the finances and
banking and so on.

What we have talked about before we called you into our discussions is that
the hostel can no longer cope with the crowds wanting to be members of your
school.  So we have worked a few things out which hopefully will alleviate
the problems being created.

We, with your approval, want to make your school part of my business
organization with a professional administrator to handle the business side
of things.  In addition, in one of our buildings we have a whole floor big
enough to accommodate your school and it will still be yours, not mine,
your mom's or anybody else's. That way you can look after the mom's and
young preschool kids who want to join while still having the evening
classes as well."

Davey was finding it hard to fully comprehend what his brother was talking
about and he told him that, so his brother went through everything step by
step. Once he had finished Davey had a better idea of what was going to
happen.  Other members of his extended family would be invited to provide
catering and also vending machines so everyone would benefit.

"Ok." Davey said, "But there is one other thing bothering me and that is we
will have to train a lot more people as instructors because we have nowhere
near enough right now.  Additionally, the master class for the ultimate
highest black belt will have to be trained by me. No one else is qualified
enough right now to do that."

Both his mother and brother agreed with that and then his brother pointed
out another aspect which Davey hadn't even considered, "Plus, being part of
my corporation means that my accountants will be able to handle your tax
for you.  We will register your school as a business and look after all
that.  So all you have to do is concentrate on your training and also
making sure that your instructors are up to standard."

All this appeared to be all right and above board and when Davey looked
questioningly at Johnny he also nodded his head.  They spent another hour
or so going over all the details before the boy's headed in for dinner and
Davey's mom and older brother headed home.

Over dinner Davey said to Johnny, "You've been to most of my Master classes
Johnny, how do feel about training up even more and taking the test to
become a master instructor?"

"Do you feel I'm good enough for that?"  Johnny asked.

"I'm sure you are but you still have a lot to learn.  It won't be easy
because the final test for all those who are going to be masters will be
given by an outside master so that no bias is shown on my part.  So be
prepared, because when you reach that stage it will be up to someone
else. Plus since my brother and mom mentioned the extension of the school
I've been thinking that you should be made co-director of the school and we
run it together."

This last remark took Johnny totally by surprise and he didn't answer right
away, "Are you sure Davey that you want me as your business partner?"

"Johnny you're going to be my lifetime partner anyway or at least I hope
so, so why not in business as well?" Not worrying that they were in a
crowded dining room with others all around them, Johnny leaned across and
kissed his lover fully on the lips in answer to his question.

Some of the other guys who spotted this began to clap, cheer and carry on.
But the two lovers didn't care and held the kiss just that little bit
longer to show everyone how much they were in love.

The next big event to happen at the hostel was the ceremony joining Sally
and Bethany together.  With most of the staff and a lot of the older boys
attending, plus a large number of police officers from the Commissioner on
down, it was shaping up to be a big affair and the hostel's ballroom was
the venue for the reception.

Both Sally and Bethany were still a little bit nervous about the two gay
guys who were organizing and officiating at the ceremony. They were very
active members of a gay activist group and both ladies hoped that they
weren't going to use their event as a soapbox to promote their cause. Both
of the guys had assured Bethany that it wouldn't happen but they wouldn't
rest until the event was over.

Bethany being the more butch of the two had bought a very smart dark suit,
shirt and tie while Sally opted for a not quite white pale cream dress. The
rings had arrived and the floral bouquet was being picked up by Luke on the
morning of the wedding.

Another worry was with the Commissioner of Police and his wife attending
that they may attract too much media attention.  So in his diary which his
press officer releases to the media every day it was listed as a private
birthday party but no venue given.

Luke and his counterpart Paul Alverez had similar notations in their
diaries also. Pru was thrilled that her mother and father were attending
even if they didn't fully approve.  Luke was asked by Bethany if he would
be best man which left him in a bit of a dilemma because he wanted to walk
down the aisle with his mother on his arm and give her away.

It was finally decided that he would do both jobs, joining Bethany once he
had given his mother away. They had decided on no bridesmaids mainly
because they didn't know of anyone suitable but they had Davey and Johnny
as page boys, each carrying a cushion with a ring on it.

The ladies need not have worried because the two celebrants performed the
ceremony with dignity. Firstly Bethany pledged her love and life to Sally
who did the same in return. They then exchanged rings kissed and it was all
over.

All this took place in a quite peaceful garden belonging to the two wedding
planners. It wasn't until they were leaving to go back to the hostel that a
group of banner waving anti-gay protesters began chanting nasty slogans and
taunting the happy couple and the guests.

There were, several local media around taking pictures so the police
commissioner and his assistants went out through a back door with the chief
calling for assistance to remove the protesters. It would have been bad
publicity if the heads of the city's police department were seen.

While Chief Falster, Paul Alvarez and Sally's son Luke felt bad at having
to sneak out unseen, the chief believed it would have made the whole
protest more dramatic than it needed to be if they had left with all the
other guests.

The police who the chief had called to control the demonstrators arrived
very quickly and moved the placard waving bigots far enough away to allow
the two brides and their guests to leave without too much trouble and to
make their way to the hostel for the wedding breakfast.

The kitchen staff at the hostel had done a mighty job with the food and the
boys who were not guests at the wedding were waiters.  Bethany and Sally
were paying for all this so that no money came out of the funds used to
keep the hostel going, in fact a profit would be made out of the wedding
reception.

Luke of course had to make a speech and he did a good job thanking both of
them for all the hard work they have put in to make the hostel a safe and
happy place.  He then went on to wish them the best of luck and happy and
long life together.

Once the speeches were over it was time for dancing.  This upset Pru's
mother and a few others's, who for a better term we refer to as straight
people, "Pru it's not right that all those boys should be dancing with each
other and a lot of girls are dancing with each other as well.  What ever
happened to boy and girls dancing together?"

"Mom they are gay people who dance with people of their own kind. Don't
forget it's a gay wedding so that is what happens.  Besides a lot of those
dancing are in a relationship with their partners." Pru explained laughing.

"Well I don't think its right.  Just look at those two boys over
there. Davey and what's his name Johnny there, actually kissing while they
are dancing, that's gross.  I think I should find your father and go, I
don't like this at all."

"Don't forget mother when Luke and I get married some of these same people
will be at our wedding, so be prepared for the same sort of thing to
happen. Anyway it would be bad manners to leave right now before the cake
cutting and the throwing of the bouquet." With a snort and humph Pru's mom
sat back down again as Luke got Pru onto the dance floor.

The cutting of the wedding cake came next followed by the opening of the
presents.  What a grand load of gifts they got including an anonymous gift
of a twelve inch black dildo which upset some people, while others
including the married couple thought it was hilarious.

More dancing followed and it was great to see Davey and Johnny dancing
close together along with his older brother and his partner, a large number
of their friends and of course the Hostel owner with his gorgeous
partner. The DJ on instructions from the bridal party began to play a lot
more slow romantic songs so everyone could cuddle up and be close to the
one they love.

It was getting quite late in the day when the announcement was made that
the wedding bouquet would be thrown and funnily enough there were more boys
than girls eagerly waiting for a chance to grab the floral bouquet. Sally
and Bethany together grabbed the flowers and with their backs to everyone
they tossed it into the air. What followed was a big scramble, but the
lucky recipient was Edwin who cheered as he held the bouquet in the air for
all to see before he was grabbed by Garrett and given a big kiss on the
lips.

Once the happy wedding couple had left the party gradually broke up.
Because it was late Edwin was looking very tired now and Garrett almost had
to carry him to bed. He undressed him putting him between the sheets before
giving him his nightly meds. He then undressed and joined him, giving him a
kiss and cuddle and the next thing he knew Edwin was asleep. The bad dreams
he had been having in the hospital still happened but were slowly becoming
less and less frequent, which not only pleased Garrett but Keith Jamieson
as well.

Sally and Bethany could only manage two days off because of their work
rosters and they headed downtown by cab to a very nice hotel to spend time
together completely away from the hostel. Once they had checked into their
suite they began to undress each other, caressing and kissing between each
item of clothing until they were naked.  Then they climbed into bed and
made passionate and exciting love until the early morning light began to
shine through the windows.

Laughing Sally said, "My darling we didn't bring the dildo."

"I don't think we'll ever need that."  Was the reply from Bethany as they
finally went to sleep. In fact they didn't stray far from the bedroom for
the next two days except to eat the occasional meal.

It took just one week for Margaret Buchanan to get the official word
regarding her parole application and the answer was not at this time.  She
was bitterly disappointed, being sure that they would let her out.  She
also wasn't very happy with her lawyer who had built up her hopes so much,
only to have them dashed.

The official reason was that the severities of her crimes were so
horrendous that parole was out of the question, but she should re-apply in
twelve months' time. The other Margaret who was the social worker
responsible for placing Davey and then joining forces with Garrett's mother
to have Davey killed also applied for parole.  While her charges didn't
include incest, she was still refused for the same reasons.

While both Margaret's were disappointed it was Garrett's mother that was
the most upset because she had convinced herself that she was getting out
of prison and her son would be back living with her. The fact that he was
out and practically pardoned by the judge and making a name for himself as
a do-gooder spurred her on to try and make contact with him and hopefully
make amends for what she had done.

While she was getting all this information from the outside, the one
important fact she wasn't getting was that her son wanted nothing to do
with her ever again.  She also had no idea that he was entering into a
homosexual relationship with another young man.

The prison authorities were sure that if she found that out she would go
berserk and do anything to get out of prison.  Her lawyer was feeding her
all sorts of stories to get more money out of her.

It was just a couple of days after the wedding that Edwin started to get
sick again during the night.  He began to vomit and shake with perspiration
pouring off him soaking the sheets through and through.  Garrett helped all
he could but in the end had no option but to call the night staff who
immediately called the paramedics and he was rushed back into the hospital
with Doctor Evans rushing in from his apartment along with his boyfriend
Doctor Keith Jamieson.

Garrett was panicking being sure in his own mind that his boyfriend was
dying. After examining him Doctor Evans inserted a drip into his arm to
prevent dehydration. He then put a call through to the doctors who worked
for the drug company that was supplying the experimental drug Edwin was
taking.  They offered some advice on what to try and eventually Edwin
settled down and went into a deep sleep.

All Garrett could think of was that he was going to lose the only person in
his life he really loved. Doctor Jamieson assured him that this was only a
temporary setback and Edwin would soon be back feeling much better.  I hope
so, I don't want anything to happen to him, if it did I don't want to
live."

"Now cut out that kind of talk, nothing's going to happen to Edwin, just a
little setback that's all."

Once again Garrett spent what was left of the night lying next to his
lover's hospital bed but not sleeping just praying that his partner would
be all right.

By mid-morning Edwin was much improved and Doctor Evans said if he had a
good night he could go home the next day.

It took less than a week for Davey's Karate school to be moved into the new
building.  What a massive place it was, with enough room for several
classes to held at the same time. Jonathon allowed him to take a day off to
have a look and check out the new place and also to begin his master's
class with of course Johnny taking part so he too could become an
instructor.

One of his brothers friends who owned a vending company had already
installed a bank of machines with drinks, snacks and so on.  All the mats
and equipment from the hostel had been brought over and a whole pile of new
stuff had arrived as well so the place looked like a proper Karate school.

Davey had just ten people in his masters class.  For an hour or so he put
them through their paces before sitting them down with some written work to
do to make sure they fully understood what they had been shown and
taught. Johnny Walker was the youngest while the oldest was a wiry five
foot four grey haired guy who was seventy eight years old. He already had a
fair bit of training and Davey was confident that he would pass the tests
with flying colours and his bright cheerful personality would ensure he got
on with his pupils.

The other eight were of various ages but all appeared to be keen to and
eager to learn. The owners of the building had a printing shop on the lower
floors.  They came up to meet Davey and as soon as he shook their hands he
knew they were friends of his brother and until recently lived at the
hostel. Close on their heels was the company accountant who would be
looking after the books for Davey and he mentioned something that Davey and
Johnny hadn't thought about, "We need to register the company name for the
school so what is it going to be?"

Davey's mind was a blank regarding a name but Johnny chipped in right away,
"How about the Davey Alvarez Karate School?" Everyone thought that the name
was plain and simple and said all it had to say.  The accountant then
introduced the two young guys to a very attractive young lady whose name
was Angela.  She was to be the Karate school manager and organize the
instructors and their classes and so on.

She had blonde hair, about five foot ten, slim build and looked to be in
her mid-twenties. She explained to the boys what her job entailed and then
asked if they were happy with the arrangements. Both of them said
everything was good to them and they left to go back to the hostel for
dinner. One of the hostel staff picked them up to drive them back and on
the way Davey said to Johnny, "Everything went so fast today, did you
understand all that was told to us?"

Shaking his head Johnny replied, "Not really but if your brother organized
it then it will be on the up and up."  Davey agreed and by this time they
were back home at the hostel just in time for dinner. They had intended to
go back to their room after they had eaten and just relax in each other's
arms, but Jonathon had other ideas telling Davey that he should try and get
at least an hour's gymnastic training in before going to bed.

Margaret Buchanan was taken by a prison guard to the governor's office and
told to wait outside until she was called. She had a smile on her face
because she was sure that her application for parole had been
approved. Finally she was called in to stand before the Governor. The lady
in question was looking through some papers but eventually looked up and
immediately passed on the news, "I'm sorry but your application for early
parole has been refused and the board has stipulated that you needn't
bother applying again for at least twelve months.

"What, they said no, how dare they, I am a model prisoner I have learnt my
lesson, all I want is to get my life together and my son back."

I'm sorry but the decision has been made and you will remain with us for
some time to come that is all." She looked at the guard who brought her
into the office nodding her head indicating that the interview was over. It
was then that Margaret went berserk lunging at the governor who immediately
sounded an alarm and several prison guards came rushing to restrain her as
she began cursing and swearing, lashing out at any one within distance of
her fists.  A couple of guards went down while others tried to handcuff
Margaret before grabbing her legs and putting chains around her feet.

The old Margaret Buchanan came through with curses and swear words making
the air blue as she tried to escape and fight back.  Finally she was
subdued and three officers carried her out still screaming and swearing.
Instead of taking her back to her own cell she was taken to a padded cell
where she was put into a strait jacket and left lying on the floor still
screaming and swearing, even after the cell door was slammed behind the
guards as they left her to cool off.

Due to the spring break holidays Luke and his sidekick Jason didn't have
any school visits.  This gave Luke a much needed break so that he could
catch up with his normal work. He set Jason into revamping the talks they
gave on violence, bullying, and taking guns into school and so on.

Between them they had decided to cover a lot more in their talks and cover
a lot more problems in one hit. Jason was busy redesigning posters and
signs to help get the message across better and was happy for the break,
especially since he was accused of being gay by a student.  This had really
upset Jason and he still thought about it a lot wondering if he should
remain in the police force or not.

Luke had told him time and time again to forget the incident and just
concentrate on his career but he was finding this hard to do.  He loved the
job he was doing and was happy that Luke was preparing him for bigger and
better things within the El Paso police force, but that nagging doubt
remained.

Luke and Pru after attending his mom and Bethany's wedding talked a lot
more about their marriage.  They brought the date forward by a few months
but still hadn't told anyone else yet and especially Pru's mother who would
right away go into panic mode.

Back in the Providence hospital Edwin was slowly returning to his normal
self and Doctor Evans told him that if he continued to improve he could go
home tomorrow.  The drug company doctors had sent instructions regarding
the dosage of the experimental drug he was taking and these adjustments
were now beginning to work.

"If you have no more problems young Edwin, you'll be able to go back home
in the morning." Doctor Evans told him. This brought a smile to both boys'
faces as they cuddled each other, "Thank you for everything you are doing
doctor and you Garrett, well what would I do without you?" Tears began to
roll down his face as he continued, "Without you by my side I would never
have survived, I love you so much." They kissed as the doctors and nurses
walked away with smiles on their faces.

Shortly after Edwin fell into a restful sleep with a contented smile on his
face, so Garrett took the opportunity to curl up next to him with his arms
around him to protect him from whatever the world may bring.

Davey and Johnny had just finished a training session in the hostel gym and
were walking through the reception area to use the elevators when they
heard the security guards on the door yelling for someone to stop and then
Davey heard his name being yelled out loud, "Davey, Davey here I need to
talk to you."

He heard the voice alright and went pale because he knew exactly who it
was. "Jared why don't you leave me alone once and for all, it's
over. Whatever we had is gone, I wish you would realise this, now you're
going to find yourself back in prison, maybe for a long time." Davey was
pleading with him as tears rolled down his cheeks while a security guard
grabbed him bringing him down to the ground before applying handcuffs,
while another one sat on him the others called for the police to take him
away.

Jonathon came rushing in to see what the commotion was all about and
recognized Jared Dempsey from his police photos.  He quickly filled in
security on the full story and not long after that the police arrived to
re-arrest him and take him away.

To say Davey was visibly upset would be an understatement as tears poured
down his face and he began sobbing into Johnny's shoulder, I wish he would
give up this ridiculous idea Johnny.  Ok I did love him when no one else
did and it was me who seduced him.  I'm ashamed to say but that was back
when I had no one, when everyone was against me."

"I know baby and you are right, Jared has to let go, forget the past, look
to the future and feel happy for you that everything is working out all
right." All this time they were travelling in the elevator to their
room. Once they were inside Johnny took Davey in his arms kissing him and
licking up all his tears. There was a knock on the door and both of them
startled and not expecting it jumped apart wondering just who it was.

Johnny went and cautiously opened the door to find Jonathon standing there
asking if he could come in. Johnny opened the door fully so he could enter
and he immediately moved over to Davey putting an arm around him, "Don't
worry Davey I will make sure that he never, ever as the opportunity to
bother you again. I realise that you had an attachment some time ago and
the training he gave you was very good grounding for what you are doing
now.  Without that you would still be working on the basics.  So he did a
lot of good for which we should be grateful, but he needs to realise that
he must now let you get on with your life and concentrate on going to the
Olympics and bringing back the gold. If he really cared for you this is
what he would do, Instead of making a pest of himself."

Both Davey and Johnny agreed with Jonathon who once he saw that his charge
had settled down wished them goodnight and left.

 Writers Corner.  Well a full chapter with a lot happening and of course
the highlight was the ceremony joining Sally and Bethany together.

The important event or should I say non-event was Margaret Buchanan's hopes
of a parole which we all knew would never get off the ground and she
finished up showing once again her true colours and that nothing had
changed.

Edwin's relapse as well turned out to be not too bad and this is something
which he will endure more than likely all his life.

When things move with Davey's family they move quickly and before he knew
it his Karate school was in bigger and better premises with accountants and
a manager to take the pressure off the family. Plus he is now able to train
more instructors so he can concentrate on his own career.

The only sour note in this chapter was Jared Dempsey's persistent chasing
of Davey but hopefully this is finished now for good or is it?

Anyway if I forgot anything I'm sure Richie will pick it up in his little
corner.

Richie's ranting's.

Well Trevor this was a very good chapter with lots happening.

Now, I totally disagree about Jared Dempsey.  I do not feel he should be
sent back to prison.  He only wound up in prison because Davey seduced him.
I think Davey owes him.  Owes him for his help in gymnastics and for being
a friend when he really needed one.  He already paid the price for Davey's
seduction.  So now I believe is the time for Davey to be a friend to Jared.
Now it should be Davey's responsibility to help Jared get back into life.
Maybe find him a boyfriend of his own.  Again guys, this is my take, not
Trevor's.

I was glad to see both Margaret's denied parole.  I believe it will be a
long long time before Garrett will need to worry about his mom.  Unless she
is able to escape, then I think his life would be in peril or Edwin's.

It was great to see Bethany and Sally finally tie the knot (even if not
legally).  The dildo was a funny thing to think about.  Of course not for
Pru's mom.  She needs to get over it.  It is amazing that straight people
feel so uncomfortable seeing gay people dancing.  However, most of the ones
I know get used to it very quickly and think nothing of it.

So for now, hope you enjoyed this chapter.  Don't forget to let Trevor know
the good and the bad.
