CHAPTER THIRTY TWO

Dinner was almost over when they heard the sound of sirens getting louder.
It wasn't until they stopped outside the front door that they realized an
ambulance had stopped and two paramedics had gone rushing past the dining
room door. No one had any idea what was going on until a stretcher carrying
someone who none of them could make out went past the door followed by an
anxious looking Sally.

Just then one of the older boys came in to tell them, "It's Bethany she's
being rushed to the hospital. Someone else yelled what's wrong but no one
had any answers. A very distraught Sally went rushing past to follow the
ambulance to the hospital and again she didn't answer she went past.


Everyone headed off to bed wondering what was happening but nobody had any
answers. It wasn't until breakfast next morning when a notice was pinned on
the board advising everyone that Bethany was pregnant by insemination so
that her and Sally could have a child but complications had set in. No
further information was available.

It was a very quiet breakfast that morning because all the boys and the
rest of the staff thought a lot of Sally and Bethany.  By the time, they
were due to leave for school there still was no news as to Bethany's
condition. It was a shock to most to find out she was pregnant because they
both wanted to keep it a secret until the time came when it was obvious.

Sally kept vigil at her lover's bedside as tests were run and then the
surgeon told them that she would have to have an emergency operation.
We're not sure what's happening so we'll have to go in and have a
look. This was the only information he could give Sally at this time. He
did say that if things didn't look too good they would have to abort the
baby and it was possible that she might not be able to ever have children.

This was devastating news for both of them because when Sally gave birth to
Luke she was told she couldn't have any more and this meant that any hope
of having their own child would be dashed. While Bethany was being wheeled
into the operating theatre, Luke and Pru arrived to support Luke's mom who
looked terrible from not having had any sleep and she was sick with worry
over her partner.

They comforted her the best they could but she was really too upset to take
in everything they were saying. Finally, they persuaded her to lie down and
rest promising they would wake her as soon as any news came out of the
theatre.

Meanwhile on the top floor of the same hospital in the AIDS ward Edwin was
feeling and looking much better. Several changes to his medication was
helping him get over the current setback. The one who had the doctors more
worried was Garrett whom Keith Jameson feared was on the verge of a
breakdown due to worrying over his young lover.

Dr Evans had prescribed medication which he hoped would calm him down and
to avoid a full nervous breakdown. Meanwhile Keith was continually
counseling him and assuring him that Edwin was going to be all right. While
this didn't fully convince Garrett, it did help him become calmer but in
his own mind, he had already decided that he was going to lose the man he
loved.

Although Keith for months now had been preparing both boys that this might
happen when it looked like death was staring them in the face, neither of
the boys were ready when it looked as if it was going to happen.

After the morning, training session Davey and Johnny called in to see their
friends and to try to cheer Garrett up. While they were there, Davey told
Dr. Evans that all the money he was making out of endorsements was going
towards AIDS research, but he didn't want a big thing made out of it
telling him that he was sick and tired of all the publicity.

In fact, he had already arranged to meet his older brother once they got
back to the hostel to discuss publicity. After gently kissing a sleeping
Edwin on the lips and giving Garrett a more robust kiss and a hug, the boys
left promising to return later in the day.

Back at the hostel, they met his brother explaining that all the
endorsement money was going to AIDS research.  Davey then explained that
the publicist he had employed was becoming a pain in the butt.  She wants
me to appear on just about every talk show there is, and the endorsements
have become unmanageable.  She wants to make a big publicity stunt out of
my donating all the money. I don't want all that, I just want the money
earned this way to be quietly channeled in the right direction with no fuss
or publicity.

He then explained that this was interfering with his training schedule and
he wanted all publicity to stop. His brother said he would get rid of her
and slow down on all the publicity at least until after the Olympics, You
realize after Madrid if you perform like you did in Moscow the whole
publicity circus will be on again.  While Davey agreed, he also pointed out
that for a while, the pressure would be off and he could relax his training
a bit.

While they were together talking business, his brother also pointed out
that his Karate schools were booming.  They now had Franchise's in
fifty-two different locations throughout America and with interested
parties seeking information in Canada. The biggest request we are getting
is for you to visit as many of these as you can so that after Madrid we
might have to look at a working holiday traveling the country.

Davey and Johnny both agreed that might be a possibility.  It was on that
one note the meeting ended with the boys being chased by Jonathon to begin
the afternoon training session. He had already began working on some very
difficult new moves, which would give him good points if carried out
correctly.  Jonathon was certain that Davey could do these maneuvers making
him the greatest gymnast of all time.

With all the publicity hype, gone Davey was able to get into training with
a vengeance.  Rather than him, traveling to Washington to see the head
coach the head coach came down to EP to see Davey. He marveled at the new
routines Jonathon had worked out for Davey remarking, I firmly believe
there is no one else in the world right now capable of doing these
exercises and moves. Davey are you sure you can handle these moves?"

"I feel confident sir that with practice I can do it and I love a
challenge."

"Well don't overdo it.  We don't want you injured before the games, which
would be a disaster for you and for your country."

"Don't worry sir, I will be careful and only try these exercises if I am
completely fit and on top of my game. With fitness and meditation I will
and can do it." Davey told him before adding, "And of course the love of my
partner here Johnny." With that, he gave his lover a kiss and a cuddle.

The head coach paused for a moment before continuing, "This brings up
another subject. We have decided that against all of our rules and
regulations you and Johnny will be able to share a room in the Olympic
village. I hope that we can keep this news out of the media. So I ask that
you both be very discreet and don't advertise the fact that you are
together."

Davey and Johnny both nodded in agreement but secretly were very happy that
they are going to be together for the games. The head coach after
consulting with Jonathon told the boys that training was over for the night
because he wanted to take them out to dinner. Asking where they would like
to go they both said at the same time, The Texas Roadhouse, "They serve the
best steaks in town." Davey said.

Laughing the head coach replied, "Well that's where we'll go then. Now
let's all go get ready for a night on the town." As planned, they all met
back in the foyer after the boys had showered and changed and they were
surprised to see that Jonathon's wife was joining them. They had met her
before but didn't see her very often, so it was a happy crew that got into
a cab for the drive to the Texas Roadhouse.

Once they arrived and walked in Davey was recognized and the manager came
rushing up to greet them. He took them to a part of the restaurant were all
the tables around them were empty so that they could enjoy their meal in
peace. One of the novelties at the Roadhouse is the peanuts that are in big
containers on the table and you just throw the empty shells on the
floor. Plus you get hot freshly baked rolls served with cinnamon butter
that is another free delicacy.

Both boys ordered the massive twenty-six ounce sirloin steaks while the
others settled for something a little bit smaller. Davey and Johnny also
had mushrooms, mashed potatoes and greens. Along with soda.

They had just settled down to their meal when the procession of fans began
to gather from throughout the restaurant. The manager discreetly asked if
he would like them sent away but Davey said no. He didn't believe that
anyone who wanted to meet him should be turned away. That's the kind of guy
he his.

Once everyone had gone back to their seats, the staff took Davey and
Johnny's meal away. They came back with a freshly cooked one, nice and hot
that the boys devoured and enjoyed.

Feeling totally full and at peace with the world Davey declared that he
would have to run an extra couple of miles in the morning to get rid of the
excess weight he is sure to have put on before adding, "But it was well
worth it. Thank you very much for bringing us out."

The coach called for the bill and the manager again appeared saying, "Sir
it was an honor to have you all in my restaurant and the meal is with our
compliments and I hope you enjoyed it?" Everyone agreed it was great and
then manager continued saying, "There is just one thing, would you please
pose for a picture which we can put on our wall of famous people who have
visited us?"

Davey agreed at once and several pictures were taken including some with
staff members, plus several customers also gathered with their cell phones
as well. They finally left and on the way back to the hostel, the boys
thanked their host for a wonderful evening out, "It was my pleasure boys, I
loved every minute of it. You see being head coach is just as demanding as
your part on the team Davey. It is very stressful making sure it all comes
together and works.

Therefore, it was wonderful for me to take the night off with a couple of
young people instead of some old Olympic fuddy duddies.  In addition, let
me not forget the man that is behind the athlete.  Jonathon and it was
lovely to meet your charming wife, so you see the pleasure was all mine.

At the hostel, they said their goodbye again thanking their head coach for
a great night out before they headed indoors to their room. Once inside
Davey locked the door and with a sexy grin on his face said, "I think we
should work off some of that food right now, what do you think lover?"

Johnny didn't answer, he just took his boyfriend into his arms kissing him
and slowly walking him towards the bed. What followed was an hour or so of
hot sex which must surely have worked off several pounds from both of
them. Finally, they fell into an exhausted sleep knowing that the alarm
would sound at five in the morning.

Meanwhile it was an anxious Sally, Luke and Pru waiting for news about
Bethany. Sitting all that time in the waiting room was stressing all three
of them out. Eventually the surgeon came out looking very tired and weary,
"I'm sorry I did everything I could but couldn't save the baby and Bethany
has so much damage that she will be unable to have any more children.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I did all I could but there was just
so much damage. I have no idea what caused it. Anyway she is in recovery
right now and should be in a room in about an hour."

With a sigh, he turned and walked away with Sally calling thank you after
him, before she turned to Luke bursting into tears as he held her in his
arms. She sobbed and sobbed and was just beginning to calm down when a
nurse came to inform them what room Bethany was in and that they could go
see her but only for a few minutes. Sally almost ran to the elevator with
Luke and Pru trying to keep up.  As soon as the elevator arrived, they
stepped inside and headed for the floor Bethany was on.  Sally ran down the
corridor and was in the room before the other two had even got out of the
elevator.

Once inside the room she went to Bethany's side, holding her tight and
saying how sorry she was repeatedly. A very weak soft voice said, "Don't
worry darling we still have each other and let's go to plan B, adoption."
Sally was amazed at how calm Bethany was when she could well have lost her
own life as well as the baby.

Oh baby, I love you so much I thought I'd lost you for good. I don't think
I could survive without you." They continued to hug each other although
Bethany was finding it difficult to stay awake.  She was making a big
effort for the sake of her partner.

That was how Luke and Pru found them when they finally reached the
room. They both gave Bethany a hug before standing back leaving the two
lovers to console each other. A nurse came in to check Bethany's vitals and
suggested that they leave now and let her get some rest. Reluctantly Sally
kissed her lover goodbye promising to be back later.

Together they left the hospital with Sally heading back to the hostel while
Luke and Pru went into work. The minute she arrived back and had parked the
car the first person to ask about Bethany was the security guard at the
door.  Then one person after another wanted to know what happened and how
was Bethany. Trying so hard not to cry Sally answered all their questions
because she knew everyone cared. The hostel was like one big family and
everyone worried about everyone else.

Back at police headquarters Luke and Jason had a lot of work to do because
the next day they were recommencing their school visits. The chief had
insisted that they both be armed this time after the hostage incident but
it was decided that they would make sure their firearms were concealed. The
high school they were going to in the morning was noted for having a large
number of gang members as students and once again, the chief arranged for
two patrol cars to be stationed at the main entrances in case of
trouble. He was determined not to have a repeat of the hostage situation
and have his deputy and his offside put into any danger.

Pru's mom was proving to be a pain again. Hinting continually that now they
were married why was her only daughter not expecting.  Pru had explained to
her several times that they intended to wait another two years before even
thinking about children but her mom kept insisting that was too long a time
to wait. In any case, after what had just happened to Bethany they did not
intend to mention children until Luke's Mom and her partner have gotten
over their grief.



Both Luke and Jason were feeling a bit apprehensive going into their first
high school after what had been quite a long break. Everyone by now knew
that Jason was a gay cop, both of them were prepared for the questions and
remarks that they are sure will come.

The high school students sitting in front of them were a tough looking
bunch and Jason was happy that he had his gun with him in case they got out
of hand. Luke on the other hand was sure they could handle them if trouble
started.

The general talk about crime, carrying weapons and so on went well.  The
next segment was recruitment and talking about making the police force your
career. Looking at the guys assembled before them Luke was sure most of
them were gang members and certainly not police material but they continued
with the talk.

When it came time for questions one of the first asked was, "Is it a
requirement that you be a poof or gay to be in the police force these
days?" This brought forth a lot of sniggering and snide comments before
Jason replied, "Obviously by this question you all know that I'm gay and a
police officer. It isn't a requirement; no, but if any of you are gay and
interested in becoming a El Paso police officer it certainly won't stop
your chances.

On the other hand, if you are a member of any gang or have a criminal
background then this will go against you. What I'm saying is we don't care
if your gay, atheist or from another planet, just as long as you are
dedicated enough to observe and enforce the law."

This answer stopped any more gay questions, in fact, very few questions
were asked after that, and the lecture was over. As these urban rednecks
left, the room a couple of them actually came up and shook both of our
hands, not saying much but mumbling thanks.

Both guys breathed a sigh of relief that the ordeal was over and they
packed all their stuff away into the car before heading for lunch. Over
their meal, they discussed the morning dissecting all that happened,
decided that they were on the right track, and should stick to the same
format.

On the way back to headquarters, Luke asked how Jason's partner Francis was
doing after the beating he had received, "Physically his wounds have healed
but he is still scared to go outside on his own. His boss is allowing him
to work from home, but how long that will last we don't know.

Everyone has been so good to us but it is a struggle although he has shown
some improvement since he has been having therapy session with Doctor Keith
Jameson who is brilliant in this field."

"Yes my mom is always raving about how good he is with some of the younger
boys from the so called `cure farm'. Plus look at the wonders he has worked
with Garrett.  Let's face it he was a monster when he lived with his mother
and then went on to almost kill young Davey and the headmaster as
well. Don't worry Jason I'm sure Francis will get better and don't forget
the trip to the Madrid Olympics, which isn't too far away now.  I'm sure
that will do him a world of good."

Speaking of young Garrett, right at that moment Doctor Evans was telling
him and Edwin that if the young guy has a good night and sleeps well with
no fever he just might be able to go home tomorrow. This put a smile on
both their face and Garrett hugged his boyfriend whispering, "he answered
our prayers."

Edwin smiled nodding and kissing his partner lightly on the lips as the
good doctor continued, "But I'm afraid your planned trip to Madrid with the
rest of the gang is out of the question."

Neither of them could hide their disappointment at this news and Garrett
said, "Even if he continues to gain in strength and in health between now
and when we are due to leave will it make any difference?"

"I'm sorry boys but you saw what happened in Moscow and we can't take the
chance of it happening again because Edwin might not survive another
relapse like that one, so no, Madrid is out of the question. Sorry boys I
know it will be a big disappointment that you won't be there to cheer on
your good friend Davey but it's for the best."

Deep down they both knew the doctor was right in everything he said but
they couldn't hide their disappointment. Later when they gave Davey and
Johnny the bad news one could see that they too were sad that two of their
best friends wouldn't be there to cheer them on.

While training was continuing and Davey was getting back into peak
condition, several people had been chased away by security for trying to
take pictures and videos of him training. This was annoying and when
Jonathon received a phone call from the chief gymnastic coach, they
discovered the reason why.

Apparently several countries including Russia and China were offering up to
half a million dollars to anyone who could provide a video showing the new
routines Davey was working on, "Whatever happened to fair play in sport?"
Jonathon demanded.

Davey in his usual calm way just smiled saying, "We must really have them
worried but what will be will be. They just have to try harder as we
are. If I win with these new routines all well and good but they are so
difficult and some are controversial that I could just as easily lose
out. It only takes one little slip or lack of concentration and like
Jonathon I could be out for good."

Jonathon always marveled at his protégé's calmness and peacefulness,
whishing he could achieve the same. He had tried under Davey's tuition to
meditate but just didn't have the inner peace and patience to be like his
young star.

While he had stipulated no more publicity, he did receive a request from
Gymnastic headquarters to do a final appearance on the Jay Leno show. This
was to promote the team who were seeking a couple of extra sponsors to help
fund the trip, "I know this is right in the middle of your training
schedule Davey but you would be doing us a favor if you could help us out
just this once.

We're sending a record number of gymnasts to Spain and the cost has blown
right out of the water. While the US Olympic committee has chipped in with
some extra cash we could still do with a little bit more."

Naturally, Davey said yes under protest from Jonathon.  He pointed out that
he will only be away for about twelve hours, flying out after the morning
training session and be back for the afternoon session the next day.

His family insisted that he take at least two security guards with him this
time because they were sure he would be mobbed everywhere he went.

When Davey and Johnny got out of bed, it was still dark but they were
determined to get as much training time in as possible before their midday
flight. They headed for the high school and because no one was around, they
were able to run around the track for an hour.

Back in his gym, which now had blackout curtains on the windows so no one
could film his routines with Johnny's help he worked out first with the
weights and then after a thirty minute meditation period he went through
some of his routines before heading into the dining room for a late
breakfast.

Then it was up to their room where they showered together doing a bit of
fooling around at the same time before packing a change of clothing into a
bag and heading downstairs to meet up with security before leaving for the
airport.

No one knew what time he was leaving so they had no problem with crowds.
Once on board the aircraft sitting right up front in first or business
class they had a light lunch before sleeping for the rest of the flight.

Their two security guys had their work cut out stopping other passengers
from trying to get to Davey for autographs and such.  They did their job
well and by the time the flight was on its approach to LA airport and the
two boys were woken by the flight attendant they felt ready to tackle
anything.

They were whisked through baggage collection with no delays and into a limo
provided by the show. They went straight to the studio where the producers
met them and provided them with something to eat in their dressing
room. Just as they finished eating Jay came in to greet them and go through
what he would be asking them during the show.

Once they had been briefed, it was off to makeup and then into the green
room where they sat and relaxed with the other guests which included an up
and coming young actor by the name of Tom Hanks. They sat chatting for a
while before the stage manager came to collect them and take them into the
studio.

Of course once they entered into the spotlight and moved to greet their
host the audience was on its feet applauding and cheering.  It took Jay and
the floor crew quite a while to calm them down. The interview went well
concentrating on the high cost of sending athletes to these big events.

Then Jay asked him about the new routines it was rumored he was going to be
trying out at the Olympics and Davey pointed out that half a million
dollars was being offered by some countries for a video of his routines.
This statement upset the studio especially when Jay pointed out this was in
effect cheating. Davey didn't name countries although Jay prompted him to,
saying that he didn't want to drag himself down to their level by naming
them. This again got a lot of applause and cheering from the studio
audience.

They chatted some more and just as the interview was coming to a close the
chant for a kiss went up. Johnny who had been sitting quietly next to Davey
hadn't spoken much and only answered a couple of questions that Jay asked
him. Now he turned to the audience and grinned.

Before coming out they had talked about this knowing it was going to
happen, Johnny looked at Davey who nodded counting to three, and then when
everyone expected them to kiss each other they jumped up and kissed Jay,
one on either side on the cheek. Jay at first looked surprised then burst
out laughing, as did everyone else in the studio, even the cameramen.

While everyone was laughing, cheering and applauding they went to a
commercial break and Jay shook their hands thanking them for the pleasant
surprise before the stage manager took them back to the green room.  Tom
Hanks was the next guest and as he stood up he said, "That was great guys
what a hard act to follow."

They sat down and had a soda talking about the interview when a production
assistant came in with a phone saying there was a call for Davey. It was
the head of the Gymnastic Olympic team to tell them that the phone had been
running hot with sponsorship offers, which meant their financial troubles,
were over and everyone they wanted to go to Madrid could. He went on to
thank Davey and Johnny for what they had done before wishing them
goodnight.

They asked if they could have a car to take them to their hotel.  Within
minutes, they were taken down to the entrance except this time they went
through a back door and into the Limo. The security guy with them explained
that a whole mob of media people was camped out front so they had to use
the back entrance.

Their hotel wasn't very far away and once more, they arrived via a backdoor
for the same reason. They were taken to their room or suite on the top
floor and once alone, they had that kiss everyone wanted to see. Undressing
each other as they went they went into the bathroom and noticed a spa bath,
which they decided to take advantage of.

Johnny found some bubble stuff and poured far too much into the water and
soon bubbles were everywhere. Laughing they got into the water looking for
each other through the bubbles which had spilled onto the floor as
well. They went into a passionate embrace and then made love with Davey
finally lifting Johnny onto the edge of the tub so he could enter him and
fully satisfy him and himself as well.

It was getting late but they were also hungry having eaten nothing since
lunch at the studio.  Johnny called room service ordering Steaks with
plenty of vegetables and orange juice. They were wearing the robes provided
by the hotel and nothing else. When the food arrived, they dove into it
with gusto.  They polished off the lot before heading to their bedroom
where they lay in one another's arms watching television before sleep
overtook them.

They were awakened early by the phone ringing and when Davey answered it,
he heard a very distraught Jonathon on the other end, "Have you guys seen
the morning news on TV or the newspapers yet?" He asked.

"No, you just woke us up. Why what's happening?" Davey wanted to know.

"Just turn on the TV to one of the news channels." Davey did as instructed
and the first thing he saw was a still picture of him and Johnny
kissing. It took him a while to realize it was in their hotel suite.  Then
followed another shot of them undressing each before the final picture of
them running from the room butt naked with their backs to wherever the
camera was.

"How the hell did they get those pictures? We're on the top floor." Davey
asked.

Jonathon explained, "Apparently a photographer, now a very rich one I might
add was in an apartment almost half a mile away with a telephoto lens and
he took these pictures including some of you sitting in robes eating.

Also he has some other more intimate pictures which can't be shown on TV or
in the print media but a bidding war between gay porn sites is now taking
place for those pictures."

Neither Davey nor Johnny could believe this was happening and they asked
Jonathon if anything could be done, "You're brother has his legal team
working on it right now but the damage has been done." He disconnected the
call after talking for a while longer.

Instead of going down to breakfast they ordered it to be served in their
room and just before it arrived the hotel manager arrived full of apologies
saying that when this kind of thing happened there was little they could do
about it. Davey explained that it was done now and they would have to cope
with it.

Straight after breakfast, they headed downstairs to head to the airport and
once again, it was via the backdoor. At the airport the minute they
arrived, they were mobbed by the media and for some minutes couldn't get
out of the limo. Finally, airport police arrived forming a barrier so the
two boys could head for the private airport lounge to wait for their
flight.

Sitting in the corner of the lounge together, they held hands until they
realized someone might be taking pictures, "Whatever are we going to do
Johnny? Just imagine what it's going to be like when we get to El Paso."

Welcome back to another chapter in the Davey saga. Sorry this took a bit
longer than normal to get out but halfway through writing I had a block and
couldn't get back to the story for several days.

First off it was sad news about Bethany and Sally who had surprised
everyone by not telling them they were having a child by artificial
insemination. Sally can't have children and now neither can Bethany so
maybe they will look at adoption, who knows?

Edwin is slowly improving much to Garrett's relief but they won't be going
to the Olympics as planned.

Luke and Jason had their first school lecture and by all accounts, it went
down reasonably well. Let's hope this easy ride continues for them but
somehow I doubt it.

The Jay Leno trip well what can I say except it looks like the boy's butts
are going to be displayed not only throughout this country but throughout
the world as well. This could prove to be very embarrassing once they get
to the Olympics.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this chapter and look forward to hearing your

Welcome back Davey readers.

I agree with Trevor, it is a shame what happened to Bethany but the good
news is she will be OK and you know there are so many kids out there that
need a good home and I bet Bethany and Sally will make very good parents if
they adopt.

I was sad for Edwin and Garrett but after all the stuff both of them have
had to go through I think it is the right decision that they do not go to
Moscow.  If something happened there you do not know if they have the means
to save Edwin's life.

Now as for the photographs.  I think Davey's brother needs to be the person
who buys the photos from this creep with conditions that he cannot sell any
other photos.  If not go after anyone who buys them as that would be
considered kiddy porn.  In fact, go after the photographer for dealing with
kiddy porn.  I bet he would agree to destroy the pictures for his continued
freedom.  That is just my take.

So for now I hope you all have an amazing day and do NOT forget to tell
Trevor your thoughts about this beautiful story.
