Subject: Devyn's Struggle 23

This is a fictional story involving sexual acts between two or more men.
If this offends you, why are you here? If you are under the legal age to
read sexually explicit material then do not read any further. This story
in no way represents any person living or dead. Any resemblance to any
real person is purely coincidental.

For those of you who have read my previous stories The Coach's Office
(Athletic section), Jake's Tale (College Section) and Rick's Barn (Rural
section) you will find this story a bit different than those. I hope you
will give it a chance and if it isn't what you are use to from me then
don't worry as there will be additions to Jake's Tale and Rick's Barn that
you might find more interesting.

Chapter 23

Joe woke Devyn up early the next morning. Devyn was still groggy but
pulled himself together. They stopped and ate at a Denny's. Then they
were on the road again. The conversation was quiet for the first hour of
the drive. Devyn looked out his window as he began to speak. "I am sorry
about last night. I, um, hope you, um, well, um..."

"It is okay Devyn," Joe said.

"You must think, um, that, I, a, am, a, slut." Devyn felt his ears burn
and he kept looking at the scenery passing by outside.

"Well, no, I don't think that." Joe paused trying to think how best to
phrase his words. "I know you have basically been used sexually by men and
it might have confused you a bit. I cannot imagine what you went through.
I am here should you ever want to talk about it."

"I, um, don't think you would like to hear about it." Devyn glanced at Joe
but could read nothing on the man's face.

"I will have to admit that joy would not be the feeling I would experience
in hearing how you were treated. I would however be a good listener. I
would make no judgments. I would...well, be as understanding as I could
be."

"I still do not understand something," Devyn said. "I don't know why you
are doing this. Why you are taking me in like this."

"Didn't I say I always wanted a little brother?" Joe said.

"Yeah, but...it just doesn't make sense. Why you don't have kids of your
own. Why you aren't married. Why you would want a faggot in your house."

"Hey, now listen to me," Joe said his voice firm but gentle. "I want you
in my house. I don't care about your sexual orientation. You can be gay,
straight or bi. It does not matter to me. I believe in looking at a
person as a whole. A person's sexual orientation is a small part of them
and it does not define them as a human being. It isn't like you got to
choose to be gay. You just are."

"How do you know it isn't a choice. Some people believe it is a choice."
Devyn looked back at Joe. His eyes hopeful.

"It is not a choice Devyn. You cannot control those sorts of feelings. It
is not anything other than another part of you like your brown hair or
those golden flecks in your eyes. It is the small parts that make up the
whole person and being gay is just a part. You do not have to define
yourself by your sexual orientation."

"So, then why aren't you married and have children of your own?"

"I guess I never met the right person. I, well, I can be a hard person to
love. I have a bit of a temper and not too many people are interested in
an old farmer." Joe turned the truck off of the interstate onto a state
highway.

"You aren't old, and well, I am sure women must be very interested in you,"
Devyn said and blushed.

"Oh why is that?" Joe asked a twinkle in his eye.

"Well, um, you are, um, well," Devyn's face blushed even brighter red, "you
are a hot dude." Devyn's final worse coming out in a rush and he turned
and looked out the window again.

"Thanks," Joe said. "I have not heard myself described that way for a
while. It is nice to hear."

"It is the truth. I mean last night, well, I was um, looking forward to
sex with you. You were going to be the best looking guy I was with
since...Brent."

Joe picked up something in Devyn's voice that told him Brent was an
important part of Devyn's past life. "Was Brent someone special?"

"Hmm, I thought he was. We were, well, boyfriends I guess." Devyn
proceeded to tell Joe a little about Brent and their experiences together.
"After my Dad kicked me out, Brent turned his back on me as well. He, he,
just dropped me like I was poison or something."

"I am sorry Devyn. I can only imagine how that must have made you feel. I
am sorry."

"I, I don't need him. He was a fucking jackass."

"I would agree with that," Joe said. "Please try and watch the language
though."

"Sorry," Devyn said looking down at his hands.

"It is okay," Joe said. "I sometimes do it as well. Just try to watch
it."

"Okay sure," Devyn said. They sat in silence until they came into a small
town.

"This is going to be our last chance to pick you up the clothes and stuff
you need," Joe said. He turned the truck into the parking lot of the
Wal-Mart. "I probably also need to pick up some groceries. If we split up
it will go faster."

"Um, sure," Devyn said. He looked nervous and a bit scared.

"We don't have to," Joe said picking up on Devyn's apprehension. "It won't
save us that much time anyway."

Devyn felt a bit like a baby not wanting to be separated from Joe. He had
a need to keep Joe insight. He wondered why it was but whatever the reason
Joe was picking up on it and being understanding. It took them over an
hour in wall-mart. Devyn found that he had lost weight and the jeans he
picked out were too big in the waist. He had to pick up a couple pair that
were a smaller size. Joe bought him several shirts, new shoes, socks,
underwear, and other articles of clothing. They also added shampoo and
other personal items to the cart. Devyn was shocked at the total at the
register. Joe just swiped his credit card and did not complain. They then
headed across the street to the IGA and did the grocery shopping. Joe kept
trying to get Devyn to pick out things he wanted to eat, but it was like
pulling teeth. "Really Devyn just get what you want. I really don't
mind."

"I am sure whatever you want is fine," Devyn said. He was trying his best
to not be an added burden.

After spending a hundred dollars on groceries they went back to the pickup.
The back seat of the club cab was loaded down with the purchases. "Is it
much further to your place?" Devyn asked after they had been driving for
about 20 minutes.

"We are almost to Fairfield," Joe said. "That is the nearest town to my
house. It is where you will be going to school in a few weeks."

"Oh," Devyn said. He had not even thought about school. "You don't live
in town?"

"No, didn't I mention I was a farmer?"

"Oh, yeah right," Devyn said.

"Do you know anything about farming?" Joe asked.

"Um, not really," Devyn said.

"It is going to be quite the learning experience for you then," Joe said.

They drove through the town and if Devyn had blinked he would have missed
the small grocery store and the gas station.

"Not much is it?" Joe said.

"You can say that again," Devyn muttered.

"You will like it if you give it a chance. One thing though," Joe said his
voice serious. "I don't know what you, um, or how you feel about your
orientation. I mean are you out about being gay?"

"Um, not really. Brent and I kept it to ourselves. It seemed better that
way."

"People here are not very accepting of gays. I mean they don't go gay
bashing or anything, but life might be harder on you if you were out."

"And on you?" Devyn asked.

"Maybe, but I am not concerned about myself," Joe said and the truth came
through as he looked into Devyn's eyes. "I will support you either way.
If you want to keep your sexual orientation to yourself or if you want to
be out it is your decision. I just want you to understand that life will
be more difficult for you if you let everyone know you are gay."

"I think for now," Devyn said looking at his hands, "I would like to keep
it just between you and me."

"That is fine." Joe had turned off the highway onto an oiled road. He
drove another couple miles and turned onto a gravel road that was just
barely wide enough for two trucks. The road was bumpy and went up and down
several hills before coming to a rust colored bridge. The metal sides
looked ancient to Devyn. There was a two story house up on a hill and the
road appeared to end just past the house. Joe drove across the bridge that
was only wide enough for the single truck and then turned up into the drive
way that went up the hill. The house was surrounded by tall trees that
looked to be hundreds of years old. Their trunks were bigger around than
anything Devyn had ever seen. "Wow this is your place?"

"Yep this is it...Welcome home."

How about that another chapter. Looks like things are looking up for
Devyn. Maybe the boy has found the right place and the right person?

Please send me your thoughts.
