Joe and Devyn made the trip back to spend Christmas with Joe's sister and family. Devyn felt a little sad about not having the chance to spend Christmas with his family. He had hoped to at least here from his mother and father. "Why so sad?" Hanna asked him when they were alone in the living room looking at the Christmas tree. "Oh, I am just a little disappointed," he answered. "Upset that you didn't here from your folks?" she asked knowing the answer. "Maybe a little bit," Devyn answered. "Don't get me wrong. Joe is great and I love him. You, Ben and Travis are also great and I love you guys too. I, I just wish..." "I know," she said hugging Devyn to her. Devyn slept in the spare bed with Joe again. He did not feel as awkward as he had the last time they had shared this bed. He actually woke up with his body pressed against Joe. Joe's arm was around him and the man was snoring softly. Suddenly the bed moved. Devyn had not heard Travis come into the room. "UP!" Travis cried in a distorted version of the word. The meaning was clear though. "Okay, Okay," Devyn signed. He had spent the month between Thanksgiving and Christmas learning sign language. The community college had actually offered a training class for beginners and Devyn had talked to Joe and gotten his approval to attend the class. It had met twice a week for the month. It had just been an introduction, but Devyn had thrown himself into the subject. The instructor had been so impressed that she encouraged him to take the full course during the spring semester. Devyn was seriously considering it. Joe and Devyn barely had time to pull on clothes before Travis was dragging them into the Living room. Hanna had hot chocolate ready for them. Devyn froze when he entered the room. There sitting by the tree was his grandmother. "Grandma!" Travis was jumping up and down with his excitement. He had been unable to wait for Devyn and Joe to wake up he wanted Devyn to have his present. "You are a sight for these old eyes." She said. "When? Where? How?" Devyn was speechless. "When," she said, "was last night. The where is a hotel until this morning. The how, well isn't that obvious, a plane. Now come here and give me a hug." She pulled Devyn into her arms and hugged him slightly. She looked at Joe over the teenagers shoulder and mouthed the words "thank you." Travis was signing rapidly to Devyn. Devyn looked at Hanna and said "thank you." "It wasn't my idea," she said. "You gotta slow down sport," Devyn signed after his grandmother released him. "I can't understand it when you sign so fast." "He wants to know if you like your present," Joe said signing. "I love it," Devyn said. "You were in on it huh? " Devyn looked into Travis's eyes. "Yes," he nodded and signed. "Thank you," he said and hugged Travis. Then he turned to Joe. "I don't know what to say. I, this, it, well, it is the best gift." "It was nothing," Joe said. "It is more than I deserve," Devyn said. "I, I, well, um, thanks." Joe reached and pulled Devyn into his chest and hugged him. "I just wanted you to have something special for Christmas They sat with cups of hot chocolate opening the other presents. Devyn was surprised at how many he was getting. He ended up with new clothes, an IPod from his grandmother. "I just love mine," she said. Devyn was amazed that his spunky little gray haired grandmother had an IPod. He got a certificate from Travis for down loads from ITunes. Joe gave him a new pair of cowboy boots. He was as happy as he could remember being. "Joe," Roberta said to him when they were alone for a while. Hanna and Ben were in the kitchen and Devyn and Travis were in Travis's room playing. "I am amazed at the change in him. He looks so much healthier than he did all those months ago. He seems so well adjusted. I can never repay you." "It is mostly Devyn's hard work and inner strength," Joe said. "He did the hardest of the change. I was just there to guide him. We had a few bumps but he got through them. He is definitely a good kid...he is going to grow into one heck of a man." "Joe," she began slowly. "I am curious about something. I suspect that you are gay, and that is fine with me. I was just wondering if...well...if..." Joe placed a hand on hers. He squeezed it gently. "No, Devyn and I are not sexually active together." Joe could see the blush on her face. "I am sorry if I offended you..." "No, not at all. You want to protect him and I understand that," Joe said. "You know," she said. "I, I, think he loves you in that way." "I have not encouraged it," Joe said. "I can see why," she continued as if he had not spoken. "You are a damn good looking man. You also have the gentle personality that I wish more men had." She placed her other hand on Joe's. "If, if the two of you are interested in pursuing that sort of relationship, then it is okay with me." "Thank you," Joe said. "I will admit that Devyn is very attractive, but I do not think of him in those terms. Maybe one day...I don't know. I love him but it isn't that kind of love." "You have been very good to him and for him," she said. "He has done just as much for me," Joe said. "When he leaves...well...the big house is going to feel real empty." "Where do you think he will be going?" Roberta asked. "He will go away to college and then..." Joe's voice trailed off as he realized that one day Devyn would be leaving him. He would be back to living alone on the farm. "Do you date?" Roberta said. "Me," Joe asked surprised. "Joe, I might be an old lady, but there is no doubt that you are one fine man. Hell, if you were straight and I was younger, I would have my sights set on bagging you." Joe felt his face grow warm as a blush spread up from his neck. "Um, thanks," he said. "You should try finding someone special," Roberta said. "If that isn't Devyn, then a man your own age. You deserve a man to share your life with. You deserve a life of happiness. You have certainly given that opportunity to my grandson. I hate to think how he would have ended up if it had not been for you and your sister. You two are very special people." "Thank you," Joe said. "Have you spoke to his parents," Joe asked. "A couple of times," Roberta said and her eyes filled with thunderstorms as he thought about those conversations. "I suggested they both need to go to counseling. Frank has some anger management issues that I do not understand. I am very disappointed in my daughter. I can't believe she stood by him through Devyn's issues. She should have kicked his ass out and brought Devyn home. I will have very little to do with them until some changes are made." "I am sorry," Joe said. "I can see the anger in your eyes, but I also hear the love for them in your voice." "I do love them," Roberta said honestly. "You never stop loving your children, but I do not like them." Joe and Devyn spent several days staying at Hannah's and Roberta stayed too. Devyn believed this was the happiest he had been since before being caught with Brent. He sometimes wondered what happened to Brent. He tried calling Brent once. Brent's father had answered the phone. He had recognized Devyn's voice and promptly told him to never call again. "Brent is better now," he had said. "He does not need your perversion messing him up." Then Brent's father hung up the phone. Devyn had not tried again. He missed his friend, but he missed the person Devyn thought he was and not the person that had turned their back on him. "Are you okay?" Joe asked Devyn on the drive back to the farm. "Yes," Devyn said. "You have made this the happiest Christmas for me. "Then why do you look so sad?" Joe asked. "Just missing Brent or at least what we had," Devyn said. "Last Christmas was very special for us. We gave into our feelings. It was like a Christmas present to each other." "I am sorry that didn't work out better," Joe said tenderly. "Me too," Devyn said. "I am certain he is gay. I hope he finds his way and doesn't end up making the mistakes I did." "We can only hope he can come terms with who is." "Yea, there is only one Joe and I have him and I am not sharing him." "I feel very special now," Joe said. Dewayne and Terry had invited Devyn to a New Year's party in the barn. "There will lots of beer and stuff to smoke," Terry said. "No thanks," Devyn said. "Oh don't be a pussy," Terry pressured. "I'm not," Devyn said. "I have other plans." "Mindy will be there," Terry added trying to entice Devyn. "She says you are the best." Devyn realized now how much of a mistake it had been to have sex with Mindy. He should have never done anything with her. He should have never started hanging out with Terry and Dewayne. "I have other plans," Devyn said again. "You better come," Terry said. "Mindy might just hook up with someone else." Devyn was half tempted to just tell Terry he was gay. He was certain that if he said those words, there would be no more pressure from Terry or Dewayne. Devyn was just not ready to deal with the fall out at school from coming out. "Really Terry," Devyn said his voice taking on a note of finality. "I have plans.:" "Fine," Terry said and hung up. Devyn spent New Year's with some other kids from school that he had become friends with. He had gotten permission from Joe to invite them out to the farm. The small group turned out to be more fun than he had ever had with DeWayne and Terry. There was no pressure to do anything they didn't want to do. Plus there was no alcohol of any kind. "Your cousin is so hot," Stacey told Devyn during the New Year's Eve party. Joe had just brought the pizzas in from town. He had then left the kids to chow down. Devyn had asked him to join them, but Joe had declined. "I guess so," Devyn said. "Is he dating anyone?" she asked. "He's too old for you," Devyn said. "Yea, but not for my Mom," she said grinning. "I would love to have him as a step-dad." "You are gross," Charlie said. "I'm only jokin'," she said. "But is he dating anyone?" "No," Devyn answered feeling uncomfortable. "Why not," Stacey asked. "Geez," Charlie said. "You are like obsessed." "I have a curious personality," Stacey said. "That is why I am going to be a reporter. I can get to the bottom of a story." "You just want to get to his bottom," Julie said. "Well, it is a fine bottom," Stacey said giggling. "Geez," Charlie groaned. "You are not his type," Sam said. "Oh," Stacey asked. "And what is his type?" "Can't we talk about something else?" Devyn asked feeling uncomfortable at the direction the conversation had taken. "Just as soon as Sam tells me what kind of girl is his type," Stacey said. "You know," Sam began, "My oldest brother went to School with him." "Oh, so he knows what kind of girls the stud likes." "He said," Sam continued, "that Joe is, um, well queer." "Queer?" Charlie barked. "Who uses the term queer," Julie asked. "Well it is what he said," Sam said blushing. "The correct term is gay," Stacey said. Devyn was beginning to wish he hadn't invited any of them out. He didn't know how to change the subject. He had no idea how to make them forget about Joe. "Is he?" Stacey asked Devyn. "What?" Devyn asked trying to come up with a good answer. "Is he gay?" Stacey said annunciating each word. "I never asked him," Devyn said. "Besides it is none of our business." "Well, if he is," Julie said, "I have an uncle that would be perfect for him." "You do?" Sam asked. "Yes," Julie answered. "He is close to Joe's age, and he is damn good looking. He's a truck driver." "Should we try and fix Joe up with someone?" Stacey asked. "There is a guy that works for my Dad," Charlie said. "I am sure he is gay. He is a cool guy." "Hey," Devyn said even more surprised at the direction the conversation had taken. "We don't even know if he is or not and besides I don't need a second dad." "Okay, Okay," Julie said. "We won't try fixing him up. But just keep my Uncle in mind. He really is a great guy. He needs someone like Joe." Devyn couldn't believe how comfortable these kids were with the idea of Joe being gay. The fact that Julie had an openly gay Uncle was also surprising. "Maybe we can get them both to go to that gay bar in Edwardsville," Stacey said. "I here it is hot." "There is a gay bar in Edwardsville?" Devyn said surprised. "Oh yea," Stacey said. "How do you know?" Sam asked. "I just know," Julie said. "I read about it somewhere." Devyn was relieved when the topic finally moved off of Joe's sexual orientation. He considered telling the group that he was gay, but did not. He just wasn't ready to take that step. Once you put that out there, there is no taking it back. Devyn did some research and discovered that Stacey was correct. There was a gay bar in Edwardsville. It was about an hour drive to Edwardsville, so Devyn knew he would not be going there without Joe knowing. "Did you know there was a gay bar in Edwardsville," Devyn asked Joe in late January. "I did know that," Joe said. "You ever go there?" Devyn asked. "It has been a while," Joe admitted. "You should go sometime," Devyn suggested. "Why would I want to do that?" Joe asked. "Is it a dump then?" Devyn asked. "No, it is actually kind of a nice bar. It is in a historic building and I think the bar was actually shipped over from Ireland." "Oh, so it is a gay Irish Pub." "Yea, something like that," Joe said grinning. "So you should go," Devyn said. "You might find someone...you know someone to..." "Yes?" Joe asked grinning. "Someone to have a relationship with." "No one is going to be interested in an old farmer," Joe responded. "They will definitely be interested in you," Devyn said. "If you are nervous, we can go together. "Are you wanting to go?" Joe asked. "I am a little curious," Devyn admitted. "I have never been in one before and well, maybe I can meet a guy my age." "Maybe we will go sometime then," Joe said. Devyn was both intrigued by the idea of going to a gay bar and he was a little worried that Joe might meet someone. He knew that Joe deserved a person to love and who loved him, but Devyn wanted that person to he himself. He wondered if he could handle it if Joe did meet someone and had a relationship with them. It was a couple of weeks later when Joe brought up the subject again. "Do you still want to go to the bar?" Joe asked. Joe could not decide if it was a good idea to take Devyn to that kind of place or not. He knew that if Devyn really wanted to go, that the kid would find a way. He also knew that Devyn had really been behaving. He had not noticed Devyn handing out with Dewayne or Terry and Joe approved of that. He had also liked the group of kids that had came out over New Year's Eve. "I, um, guess it would be fun," Devyn said. "Did you change your mind?" Joe asked. "No, but um would you be comfortable there?" Devyn asked. "Yes, I think I would," Joe answered. "Then we are going to go?" Devyn asked. "If you want," Joe said. "But there are rules." "Like?" "I am the only person you leave with," Joe said. "Not a problem." "No drinking. No smoking. No drugs of any kind." "Sure," Devyn said. "No sex." "No sex?" "None at all," Joe said. "No glaring holing in the rest room. No masturbating at the urinal. No sex of any kind at all. No oral, anal or masturbation." "Okay, okay," Devyn said his face burning. Joe chuckled. "If you don't want to go..." "I'm beginning to think it won't be much fun." "Devyn," Joe said seriously. "There will be older men there and you...well, you are damn hot. I don't think you realize how attractive you are. I want you to be careful. I don't want you sucked back into some old habits." "I don't think that will happen with you there," Devyn said. "I will of course do my best to protect you, but you need to take some responsibility too." "I understand," Devyn said. "Now how about a safety word," Joe said. "Safety word?" Devyn asked. "Something that means you are uncomfortable and ready to go," Joe said. "Um, like lets go?" Devyn said with a smirk. "I guess that is as good as anything," Joe said. "You look nice," Devyn told Joe. "Little doubt you will be walking out with a hot guy." "That is true," Joe said. "As I'll be leaving with you." "By the way," Devyn said as they drove towards Edwardsville and the bar. "Do those rules you told me also apply to you?" "I don't need rules," Joe said. "I think you do," Devyn said. "You do?" "Yes," Devyn responded. "Since I moved in, you haven't been out on one date. When was the last time you dated anyone?" "A while," was all Joe would say. "So then the rules are," Devyn said with a twinkle in his eye. "You must have sex in the men's room. It can be oral, anal or just masturbation. You have to drink at least one drink. No smoking though it is just too bad for you." "Oh and any others," Joe asked grinning. "Yea, you can't bring anyone home but me." "Thanks," Joe said chuckling. "I'll keep those rules in mind." They arrived at the bark a little before 10:00. Joe knew there wasn't any point getting there any earlier as the bars never got going until after 10:00 anyway. The place was starting to fill up. There were men and women out front smoking as they went into the bar. "Hot," Devyn heard someone say. The music was loud and the conversations were shouted as people tried to make themselves heard. There was a stage at the back of the long room and a bar along the wall to Devyn's left. He couldn't believe how much noise there was in the place. He wondered just how anyone would get to know someone in a place like this. Devyn followed Joe up to the bar. Joe ordered a bear for himself and a Coke for Devyn. "Is it what you expected?" Joe asked leaning down to speak into Devyn's ear. "Not exactly," Devyn said. The men he saw nearby were all older than Joe. None of them sparked Devyn's interest. He wondered again how he would meet someone he would be interested in a place like this. "I'm going to walk around bit," Joe said. "I'll be nearby if you need me." "Okay," Devyn said and watched Joe stroll towards the other end of the room. Devyn took a drink of the Coke and wished he were older so he could go hit on Joe. In Devyn's mind Joe was the best looking man in the place. "Are you with him?" A male voice asked taking the bar stool next to Devyn. "Um, no, not really," Devyn answered as he turned. Devyn found himself looking into hazel eyes on a face that appeared to only be a couple years older than he was. The guy's dirty blonde hair was mussed up as if he had just rolled out of bed. Devyn wondered if that came natural or if the guy spent hours making his hair look that way. "Then you were trying to pick him up?" the guy asked. "No, we came together," Devyn said. "I thought you weren't with him," the guy said puzzled. "It is complicated. He, well, he is like a foster father I guess." "Oh," the guy said. "He doesn't look old enough to be a Dad." "It would be stretching it, but he could be," Devyn said..."I mean for him to be my Dad." "Gotcha," he said. "My name is Ethan." "I'm Devyn," Devyn said and took the hand that guy offered. His shake was firm but not crushing. Devyn felt a surge of something flood through him. The guy was attractive enough. He had a nice face, kind eyes, and looked fairly fit under the college sweatshirt. "Would you mind if I hit on him," Ethan asked. "Joe?" Devyn said surprised. "Yea, he is hot," Ethan said and blushed. Devyn was conflicted. He wanted Joe to meet someone and be happy. He also didn't want Joe with anyone that was not him. "Um, that is up to you," Devyn finally said. "You got a crush on him," Ethan said perceptively. Devyn felt his face blush. He knew the guy was right, but he didn't think it was that obvious. "Sorry," Ethan said. "I didn't mean to embarrass you." "It is okay," Devyn said. "I just didn't think it was that obvious." "Only to us guys that like mature men and those with that rugged sexy thing and that guy has it." "Yea, he does," Devyn said. "I would definitely drop to my knees for him." "Hey," Devyn said shocked. "Okay, maybe after we talk for a minute or two," Ethan said and laughed. "I'm just joking. I mean I would definitely do him, but not until after we get to know each other a little bit. I am not a total slut." "That is good to know," Devyn said. Devyn wasn't sure why, but he liked this guy. He wished the guy liked him. He was definitely closer to Devyn age than anyone Devyn had been with since Brent. Devyn sat there talking to Ethan as if they were friends. Ethan told him about classes, friends at school and coming out. "I was surprised my parents were so accepting. Oh they were freaked at first. You know they tried to figure out what they had done wrong. But they are okay with it now. Of course I haven't brought home a boyfriend yet, so that might change things." "That is great how understanding they were," Devyn said. "Have you told your folks?" Ethan asked. "Um, they know," Devyn said. "They didn't handle it well?" Ethan asked genuinely concerned. "No," Devyn said. "They caught me and a friend, um, and well kicked me out." "Oh holy shit," Ethan said. "That is why I am with Joe," Devyn added. He wasn't about to go into everything he had gone through with Tom and being arrested. "Sorry man," Ethan said. "That is too bad." Ethan ordered a beer for himself and offered Devyn one. "No thanks," Devyn said. "I'll stick with my Coke." The two talked a while longer and then noticed couples out on the dance floor. Devyn had never seen men dancing before and it was interesting to watch the couples. "Would you like to dance?" Ethan asked. "Um, I have never danced with a guy," Devyn admitted. "It is just like dancing with a girl," Ethan said. "Except better cause your gay and I'm gay." Devyn laughed at the logic. It would be better dancing with Ethan than it ever had with Sue. "Okay, who leads?" "I do," Ethan said because I asked you." "Is that like a real rule or your own?" "Does it matter?" "No," Devyn said. Ethan grabbed Devyn and pulled him out onto the dance floor. Their bodies ground together as they danced and other dancers also ground against them. Devyn had a hard time keeping his cock from tenting out the front of his pants. After they danced through three songs, they went back to their seats and dropped down panting. "You are good," Ethan said. "Thanks," Devyn said. "Looks like you are having fun," Joe said joining them. "Yea," Devyn said. "This is Ethan. Ethan Joe." Ethan jumped up and took Joe's hand. "Great to meet you." "You too," Joe said his mouth quirked up in a half smile. "You looked good out there on the dance floor with Devyn. You two make a cute couple." "Thanks," Ethan said blushing. "I haven't seen you out there," Devyn said. "No," Joe said. "I don't dance." "Sure you do," Ethan said. "come on." Ethan grabbed Joe by the arm and tugged him towards the dance floor. Joe protested but Ethan persisted and eventually got Joe on the floor. The fast some ended when Ethan finally got Joe onto the floor. A slow ballad started. Devyn wondered if Ethan had planned the whole thing. There was an awkward moment when both men attempted to lead. Joe being the gentleman he was, he allowed Ethan to lead. Devyn felt the surge of jealousy flood through him. He had liked Ethan but now Devyn's wasn't so sure. The younger man was all over Joe. The song ended and Joe quickly made his escape from the dance floor. He joined Devyn at the bar again. ""That was fantastic," Ethan said joining them. "But you should have stuck around for another one. I am always up for going one more time." Joe smiled picking up Ethan's double entendre. "I am sure that is true." The three men talked for a while longer and then Joe reminded Devyn that they had a long drive home. "I would offer to let you stay at my place, but my roommate is there and he's straight." "How is he at having a gay roommate>?" Devyn asked curious. "Oh, he's okay with it," Ethan said. "I think at the start of the year he thought he would have easy access to regular blowjobs. But I'm not that kind of boy. "That is good to know," Joe said. They said goodnight to Ethan and walked to the truck. Devyn could feel Ethan's eyes following them as they crossed the parking lot. "he gave me his number," Joe said pulling a piece of paper form his pocket. "that is good," Devyn said. "it is?" Joe asked. "yea, he seems nice." Devyn said. "He does," Joe said. "He might be a fun guy for you to hang out with and get to know better." "Um, Joe, he isn't interested in me." "Oh really?" "Yea, there was only one guy he was interested in and that is you." "ME?" Joe said surprised. "You couldn't tell?" Devyn said. "Oh, I know he was flirting, but thought it was just playing." "Nope," Devyn answered. "He is interested in you." "He's too young." "Nope," Devyn said. "He's in college and he likes mature men." "Crap. What is up with the young guy into us old farts?" "Joe, you are no fucking old fart. I wish you understood how desirable you really are." "Well anyway, not going to happen. Here you take the number. You and he seemed to hit it off. Maybe he knows some other boys," Joe emphasized the word boys, "to introduce you too." Copyright 2011 by farmerboykeith@hotmail.com all rights reserved. There we guy my loyal readers.
