Subject: Devyn's Struggle 31

This is a fictional story involving sexual acts between two or more men.
If this offends you, why are you here? If you are under the legal age to
read sexually explicit material then do not read any further. This story
in no way represents any person living or dead. Any resemblance to any
real person is purely coincidental.

For those of you who have read my previous stories The Coach's Office
(Athletic section), Jake's Tale (College Section) and Rick's Barn (Rural
section) you will find this story a bit different than those. I hope you
will give it a chance and if it isn't what you are use to from me then
don't worry as there will be additions to Jake's Tale and Rick's Barn that
you might find more interesting.

Chapter 31

Joe and Ethan's date went as planned. The two met halfway between
Fairfield and Edwardsville and ate at a nice Italian restaurant. Then they
went to see a movie.

"You know how long it has been since I went to the movies?" Joe asked as
they walked towards the theater.

"Were they in color or black and white?" Ethan asked.

"Watch it," Joe said. "I am not quite that old."

"Oh, well I was trying to decide if they were maybe even still silent
movies," Ethan said but could not hide the laughter. "You need to get over
this whole age hang-up you have. I don't give a fuck if you are 25 or 52.
I like you just as you are."

"Okay," Joe said smiling. "I will let it go."

"Good," Ethan said and slid his arm around Joe. Ethan felt Joe tense up
and withdrew his arm.

"Sorry," Joe said. "It is old habit."

"I know," Ethan said. "Those public displays of affection just don't come
naturally to you."

"You are right there," Joe said. "With how I was raised and the way my
father treated me, I just always felt it easier to hide this part of
myself."

"Ethan stopped walking and took Joe by the arm. They turned to face each
other. Ethan reached up and squeezed Joe's shoulder. "You do not have to
hide any longer you never have to hide with me. Just be yourself."

"I will try," Joe said. Joe slid his arm around Ethan and pulled the man
into a firm hug.

They walked on to the theater and after buying tickets and popcorn, they
found seats. They watched the movie, held hands and enjoyed the presence
of the other man.

How was the movie," Devyn asked when Joe finally made it home around 1 in
the morning.

"What are you doing up?" Joe asked.

"Oh, just making sure you came home on time."

"Look buddy," Joe said in a mock stern voice. "It is you that has a
curfew, not me. I can stay out as late as I want."

"Yes, and I am surprised, or maybe hoping you would be out a little late,"
Devyn said grinning up at Joe.

"Oh?" Joe said the question obvious.

"Well, maybe that you and Ethan would spend the night together.

"It is just our first date," Joe said.

"Second," Devyn corrected.

"That first one..." Joe started but was interrupted by Devyn "Was a date
even if you didn't know it."

"Okay, so our second date then," Joe admitted. "It is still too soon to
take that step."

"Maybe," Devyn said.

Joe sat on the couch and scooped up the puppy that was running around on
the floor. He placed the white pup in his lap and scratched his ears. Joe
had named the pup Sirius partially because the pup always had a serious
look on his face and partially because Tyler picked the name from one of
the Harry Potter books.

"You did have a good time though?" Devyn asked.

"Yes, I really did," Joe said.

"I'm glad," Devyn said and he was truly glad that Joe was having a good
time with Ethan.

Joe's voice took on a much more serious tone, "how would you feel if Ethan
spent some time here at the farm?"

"I like Ethan," Devyn answered easily. "He is a cool guy. I don't have
any problem with him coming to visit."

"And if he stayed for a while?" Joe asked.

"A while?" Devyn questioned.

"I mean if he slept over," Joe said and could feel his face blush.

"Damn he looks sexy when he blushes," Devyn thought. Out loud Devyn said,
"That is fine with me. It is your house after all."

"No, it is our house," Joe corrected. "I would never want to do anything
that would make you uncomfortable."

"You are so damn considerate," Devyn said. "If you want Ethan to spend the
night and to spend it in your bed, then go for it."

"It won't bother you?" Joe asked.

"Only if you guys get too loud," Devyn said.

Joe chuckled and felt a little relieved that Devyn was being so
understanding.

"How would you be if I had a friend sleep over," Devyn asked. This time it
was Devyn's voice that had turned serious.

"Is there someone special I should know about?" Joe asked.

"Well, a guy at school has been giving me some looks. I think he is
interested but afraid."

"I am okay if you want to have a friend spend the night," Joe said. "You
are definitely old enough to handle that, but remember that the guy might
not be as experienced as you."

"Hell, you aint as experienced as me," Devyn said and laughed.

"Don't be too sure," Joe said with a twinkle in his eye. "I was young once
and I plowed a whole lot of fields."

"Um, well, um"

"Damn he is cute when he is embarrassed," Joe thought and laughed at Devyn.

"Okay, you got me," Devyn said and grinned.

"Have you told him you are gay?" Joe asked.

"No, I haven't told anyone yet," Devyn answered. "That was the other
thing."

"Yes?" Joe prompted.

"I was thinking about telling a few friends," Devyn said.

Joe slid his arm around Devyn and pulled the young man against his side.
Joe noticed how much more filled out Devyn's body was. The skinny teen Joe
had brought home had filled out into one very sexy young man.

"I told you once and it is still true, that I will support whatever
decision you make. If you want to be out, then I am there to back up that
decision. Just keep in mind once you let that genie out of the bottle,
there is no putting it back inside."

"I know, but I don't think Charlie is going to make the move or be able to
acknowledge it until I give him a little push.

"Charlie?" Joe said remembering the young man and liking him.

"Yea," Devyn said.

"Only you can make the decision, just remember I am there for you no matter
what the fall out."

"I know that," Devyn said. "You are one special man."

"I am also one tired man," Joe said. "And I am heading off to bed. You
had better be going soon too.

One Friday night, Devyn hurried through his chores as Joe had given him
permission to go to Julie's. She was having a few kids over for a
midsummer party. Devyn was looking forward to it. He enjoyed spending
time with Julie, Stacy, Sam and Charlie. He was hoping to figure out for
sure if Charlie was gay or not.

"Wow you know if you worked that fast every evening, the chores would take
you have the time," Joe commented as Devyn hurried back inside.

"You know I have plans tonight," Devyn said.

"Yes, I know," Joe said. "Just don't stay out too late."

"I won't," Devyn said.

"Thanks for letting me take the truck," Devyn said hurrying back into the
kitchen from upstairs. He had showered and shaved and even splashed on
some of Joe's cologne .

"You smell pretty," Joe said.

"Stop it," Devyn said laughing.

"Just have fun," Joe said.

"I will," Devyn said.

When Devyn reached the door, he saw a car turn and come up the driveway.
He watched and saw Ethan get out. "Well no wonder you let me have the
truck tonight," Devyn said.

"Ethan waved and called "hello" as he walked up to the house.

"Hi Ethan," Devyn said. "Joe didn't tell me you were coming out here."

"I thought maybe you would be gone by the time he got here and if you
didn't know, then I would not have to take your ribbing."

"Hmmm, well now I'll have to make it twice as bad," Devyn said grinning.

Devyn then stepped back and watched the two men. He folded his arms across
his chest and leaned against the porch railing.

"What?" Ethan asked looking at Devyn.

"What are you three?" Joe asked.

"Why is he looking at us like that," Ethan said.

"He is waiting," Joe said.

"Waiting?" Ethan asked.

"Yeah, for this." Joe reached and pulled Ethan in tight. His arms held
the younger man firmly to him as his lips found Ethan's and the two kissed
long and hard. "I have missed you," Joe said after the kiss broke.

"Wow!" Ethan breathed.

"Wow is right," Devyn said. "I'm out of here. You two have FUN!"

"You know," Joe began watching Devyn drive down the road, "I was going to
do that whether he was here or not."

"Good," Ethan said. "But this way he got some enjoyment out of it too."

"Not nearly as much as I did," Joe said and planted another kiss on Ethan's
very sexy lips.

Devyn was very happy for Joe. Joe deserved a really good guy and Ethan
seemed to be just that. He hoped the two would have one kick ass good time
tonight.

Julie's party was a whole lot of fun. Devyn was enjoying himself until he
saw Dewayne and Terry. He was sure that Julie would not have invited them.
He wondered if he could get them to leave before they caused trouble.

"What are they doing here," Stacy said next to Devyn.

"I bet Julie didn't invite them," Devyn said.

I know she didn't," Julie said. "Whenever they show up to a party, they
cause nothing but trouble. I bet they are already drunk."

"I'm going to see if I can get rid of them," Devyn said.

Devyn walked over to the two and hoped that they would just leave quietly.
"Hey guys," he said. "What's up?"

"Hey man," Terry said. "Where you been hiding."

"I have been working on the farm," Devyn answered.

"Then it is time for you to get a break," Dewayne said. "Have a beer."

"No thanks," Devyn said. "I have stopped."

"Oh yea," Dewayne said. "What is it? You can't handle your beer?"

"Something like that," Devyn said.

"Maybe he wants something better than beer," Terry said. "We got that out
back in the car."

"Then let's go," Devyn said. He thought this would be a great way to get
them out of Julie's house and party.

Devyn walked around back to Dewayne's car. Terry pulled out a bag of pot
and held it out to Devyn.

"It is good stuff," Dewayne said. "We have more if you want to buy."

"Um, no, not right now. I am kind of tapped out."

"You know Mindy still misses you," Terry said. "That chick has been
spoiled for any other dick but yours."

"Um, I am sure she can find someone that can treat her better than me,"
Devyn said.

"Why not leave this lame party and come out to the barn with us. We can
have a blast."

"Um, no, I think I'll just stay here," Devyn said. "Why not just go
without me. If this party breaks up early, maybe I'll drive out then."

"Nah, come one Devyn. Leave this pussy party and come with us," Dewayne
said.

Devyn smelled the alcohol on both of them when he had walked up to them
inside. He could smell it even stronger now. "No, really, I want to stay
here."

"Devyn, you are going to miss one hell of a party," Terry encourage. "You
know if Mindy isn't doing it for you any more, there is this other girl
that is so hot and her mouth is like a fuckin' Hoover."

"Wow, um, no thanks," Devyn said again. He just wished the two would get
in their car and leave.

"So what is it Devyn," Dewayne asked. "You too good for us now. You have
been ditching us all summer and now you won't go met us at a fuckin' good
time party."

"I haven't been ditching you two. It has been a busy summer on the farm.
I have chores and Joe..."

"Fuck Joe," Terry said.

"Joe, huh," Dewayne said. "I have heard stuff about him."

"What kind of stuff?" Devyn asked.

"Stuff about how he is," Dewayne said.

"Whatcha hear?" Terry asked.

"My Dad told me about him," Dewayne said. "Has he been doing stuff to
you?"

"Stuff?" Terry asked confused.

"Joe is a great guy," Devyn said his voice firm and any friendliness gone.
"He has been great to me."

"Yea," Dewayne said sneering. "I bet he has. Bet he has been great to
you. Bet he has been treatin' you real nice."

"Watch what you say about Joe," Devyn said.

Dewayne knew he had hit a sore spot and he planned on hitting again and
again. "Does he give or receive?"

"What that fuck does that mean?" Terry asked not understanding.

"I don't know what you think you know," Devyn said. "But what Joe does and
with whom he does it is none of your business."

"Oh, so that means you are corn holing him...or is he corn holing you?"

"Fuckin' sick!" terry cried.

"Yeah, that is what goes on out there at that farm...Joe is an old time
corn holer."

"You letting him do that to you?" Terry asked.

For a minute Devyn thought he actually might have heard concern in his
friend's voice. Maybe Terry did think of him as a friend. A true friend.
"No, we aren't doing anything like that. Joe would never do anything like
that with me or anyone else..." Devyn wondered if he had just lied as Joe
and Ethan might be having sex at that very moment. Of course it wasn't
Dewayne and Terry's business. It wasn't anyone's business what Joe did or
who he did it with.

"You know that is the truth," DeWayne said. "You and that old fucking
faggot are out there poking each other."

Devyn could stop himself. Before he knew what he was doing he had made
contact with DeWayne's nose. There was a crunch of bone as Dewayne's head
snapped back. Dewayne dropped down to his knees and blood began flowing.

"Fucking ass hole," Terry cried as he lunged at Devyn.

Terry was slow and before Devyn knew it, he had knocked Terry to the
ground.

"I suggest you get your fucking ass up, get in your car and get the hell
out of here."

"You fucking faggot," DeWayne said thru the blood and broken nose.

"Yeah, I am and this faggot just kicked your ass. So you had better get
going before I get really pissed off."

Dewayne and Terry slid into the car and threw rocks as they took off.
Devyn felt his knees shake a bit as he watched them turn the corner. He
had not thought about what he was doing. He knew now that the two of them,
if they hadn't been drunk, could have kicked his ass easily.

Devyn turned to head back into the house and that was when he saw he had a
small audience.

"Way to go Devyn," Sam said.

"Yeah," Stacy said. "You can kick butt."

"Thank you Devyn," Julie said and hugged him. "They were drunk and might
have caused a bigger problem inside.

"Um, thanks," Devyn said. He wondered if they had heard everything. Had
they heard him admit to being gay?

"I thought you were really going to kick their asses," Charlie said. "You
looked so damn pissed off."

"Well, I was," Devyn said.

"Did you mean what you said there at the end," Stacy asked seriously.

"Um, about how a faggot kicked their ass? Devyn inquired"

"Yes," Stacy asked.

Devyn noticed the other three had stopped and were listening for the
answer. Devyn took a deep breath and then softly answered, "Yea, I meant
it. I am gay."

"That explains so much," Julie said.

"It does," Charlie asked.

"Yes, that explains why he hasn't been hitting on me."

The three laughed. "Really Devyn," Stacy said, "it does not matter."

"It really doesn't," Sam said. "But it doesn't explain why you haven't
been hitting on me."

"Because you are a pig," Stacy said. "And Devyn has better taste."

"Thanks," Devyn said. "I had been trying to find the right time to tell
you, but it never seemed right."

"Well and why would it seem like the right time," Julie asked. "It isn't
like I ever thought I would have to tell you that I am straight. Why
should you need to tell me you are gay?"

"You don't think I have been lying then?" Devyn asked.

"No," Charlie said speaking for the first time. "The only person that
really needs to know is the guy you are interested in having a relationship
with."

"Yea, and he would need to let me know too," Devyn said.

"That must make it harder," Sam said. "Not knowing for sure if someone is
or isn't."

"Yes, it does make meeting someone harder," Devyn said.

"I'll be trying to fix you up now that I know," Stacy said.

"Me too," Julie said.

"Hey how come you two never try to fix me up," Sam asked.

"Because like I already said, you are a pig," Stacy said. "I wouldn't do
that to my girlfriends."

""Hey!" Sam yelled protesting the slam.

The joking and horse play continued back to the house and Devyn enjoyed it.
He really had made some true friends. He felt like a huge weight had been
lifted from his shoulders. He had told someone his secret and this time
his world had not come crashing down.

The party was starting to break up and Devyn found himself alone with
Charlie. Devyn had stepped outside to get some cool air and there he found
Charlie looking at the night sky.

"Hey," Devyn said. "Great night huh."

"Yes," Charlie answered.

They were silent for a while and then Charlie broke the silence. "Can I
ask you something?"

"Sure man," Devyn said.

"How do you know?" Charlie asked still looking at the stars.

"That I am gay?" Devyn asked assuming that Charlie was curious about the
gay factor.

"Yes, how did you figure it out?" Charlie asked taking a quick glance at
Devyn.

"Well, it took me a while to figure it out...well not really to figure it
out. I think on some level I always knew it. It took me time to accept
it. I had to adjust to being gay and understanding that it doesn't make me
the monster my parents think I am."

"Is that why you live with Joe?" Charlie asked. He had moved his gaze from
the night sky and was looking intently at Devyn.

"Yes, sort of," Devyn answered.

"Are you and Joe, um, well..."" Charlie trailed off not knowing exactly
how to asked the question.

"You don't believe that shit Dewayne and Terry were saying." Devyn said his
voice hard.

"I never believe anything that comes out of those two," Charlie said. "I
was just wanting to make sure."

"I love Joe," Devyn said softly. "But we are not physical if that is what
you are concerned about."

"Um, I guess that answers my question," Charlie said softly. "I'm sorry if
I am being to personal."

"Not at all," Devyn responded. "If you have questions, just ask me."

"What about the rumors about you and Mindy," Charlie asked.

"I haven't heard the rumors, but yes I did get messed up with her," Devyn
admitted. "When I came to live with Joe and started school here, I did not
like myself. I thought being gay was wrong. I got messed up with Dewayne
and Terry and in turn got caught up in trying to be someone that I am not.
I thought being with Mindy would make me be normal. It doesn't work that
way because Joe taught me that I am normal just how I am."

"But the two of you did have sex?" Charlie asked.

"Yes," Devyn admitted again. "We did."

"Did you enjoy it?" Charlie asked and looked away. Charlie knew his
questions were very personal, but he had a need to know that he could not
explain.

"Yeah, sort of," Devyn said. "I was a bit out of it every time I was with
her. I use to drink quite a bit when I hung out with those two and...well
to be honest, I think that is the only way I could have had sex with her.
Girls just don't do it for me."

"Then you have had sex with a guy?" Charlie asked.

Devyn answered honestly. "Yes, I have."

"And, and you liked it?" Charlie asked and again his eyes could not meet
Devyn's.

"Yes, I liked it. It felt so much better than with Mindy. It felt normal
and right to me.

"Hmmm," was all the response Devyn received.

Devyn started to walk back into the house. He believed that Charlie now
needed to have some time to process everything.

"Hey, can I ask a favor?" Charlie asked.

"Sure," Devyn answered and stopped and turned to face the other boy.

"Could you give me a ride home?" Charlie asked. "I rode over with Sam and
I think he is wanting to drive Becky home. This way I won't feel like a
third wheel.

"No problem," Devyn said.

The two said their good nights to the others and then climbed into Joe's
truck. Devyn drove towards Charlie's house. They rode in silence for
several miles and then Charlie broke the silence. "Thank you for being so
honest," Charlie said. "I hope I didn't ask anything that was totally
inappropriate.

"Nah," Devyn said. "I wish I had found people that understood being gay
wasn't being a monster. It might have saved me a whole lot of pain."

"Your friends at your old school were not understanding?" Charlie asked.

I never came out to them. I never planned on coming out at all, but my
parents caught me and my boyfriend...well...you know."

"Shit!" Charlie said.

"Yes, in a word," Devyn said.

"Well, it could be hard on you if you came totally out. I don't think Sam,
Julie or Stacy will say anything."

"I hope they keep it to themselves, but if they don't, well then I'll deal
with it."

So Joe is gay then?" Charlie asked.

"That is something you would have to ask Joe," Devyn answered.

"Ah, doesn't matter," Charlie said. "Just curious."

"Can I ask you something now?" Devyn said.

"Sure buddy," Charlie responded casually.

"Are you gay?" Devyn asked bluntly.

"Shit!" Charlie asked. "Why do you ask that? Do I act gay?"

"Hey, just asking," Devyn said. "Besides, do I act gay?"

"No," Charlie said softly. "Sorry I snapped like that."

"It is okay," Devyn said. He reached over and casually squeezed Charlie's
shoulder.

"I use to think that guys who were gay had to act like girls or dress up
like girls, but I guess that is not the case. I guess they can be normal
everyday guys who just happen to like other guys."

"That is right," Devyn confirmed.

"You know my parents would probably freak out if I told them I was gay,"
Charlie said.

"Maybe not," Devyn said.

"Maybe," Charlie said and shrugged.

"Of course you don't have to tell them," Devyn said. "Like you said it
doesn't matter except to the guy you are interested in having a
relationship with. He would have to know or him might be missing some of
the signals."

"Signals?" Charlie asked and looked at Devyn.

"Yes," Devyn said. "Like a casual touch on the shoulder. Maybe bumping
knees. You know things like that. Maybe even driving you home when you
live in the opposite direction."

"Oh," Charlie said and felt his face blush. He wondered if Devyn could see
the red creep across his skin. "I, um, well, um didn't mean to bump your
knee when we were sitting on the sofa."

"I didn't say I was talking about you," Devyn said. "Just explaining what
some of the signs could be."

"So since you are giving me a ride home and it isn't exactly on your way,
that means you are interested in me."

"That is what it could mean," Devyn said.

"So if I reached over and touched you that might indicate to you that I am
interested in you?" Charlie reached over and squeezed Devyn's shoulder.
He then slid his hand down over Devyn's arm. He could feel the tan skin as
his fingers slid across the forearm. He could feel the blonde hair
tickling his fingers

"Yes, that would definitely send me a signal that you are attracted to me,"
Devyn said.

Charlie's fingers wrapped around Devyn's hand. Their fingers intertwined.
Charlie squeezed. "I hope you understand."

"I think I do," Devyn said and squeezed back.

"I think I might be gay," Charlie said. He started to pull his hand away
but Devyn tightened his grip.

"It is okay to be confused and to doubt your feelings. I went through all
of that too," Devyn said.

"I also think that I am very attracted to you," Charlie said.

Devyn pulled into the driveway of Charlie's house. He stopped the truck
and turned off the engine. "You know I have been attracted to you for a
while, but I wasn't sure if you felt the same way."

"Can you be patient?" Charlie asked.

"Sure thing man," Devyn said. "First and foremost, I want you as my
friend. If something else happens, then that is just better for both of
us."

"Thanks Devyn," Charlie said. "Thank you for listening and being so
honest. Thank you!"

"That is what friends are for," Devyn said.

"I guess that is true," Charlie said as he slid from the door. "Maybe you
can come over and hang out tomorrow."

"Sure," Devyn said.

As Devyn drove home, he could not help but feel happier than he had in a
very long time. He had Joe, and now maybe he would also have something
special with Charlie.
