Chapter 2: Open Wounds

(Aaron POV)

"Cameron your dad was one of the best men I have ever had the privelage of
knowing in my life. You are so much like your mom and dad in many ways,
it's not fair that you lost both of them at such a young age. But you're
part of our family also. No matter what you face in life you have all of us
as a family. You are always going to be loved by each of us, and each of us
will get through this together. Mary done everything she could for your
dad."

"But why?" said Cameron. "I just don't get it, why me, why my dad?"

"Cam if I had answers to those questions, I would love to give them to
you. But you know there are a lot of bad people in the world, who care
nothing about others. But luckily you were raised by the most amazing
people in the world, and you have a loving heart don't let this change the
person you are."

"I'm trying Uncle Aaron, but I don't think I'm strong enough to get through
this. " Cam said.

"Cam I am here for you man, you're my best friend" Brendan replied.

"Can I go up to Brendan's room for a while please?" Cam begged in tears.

"Sure Cameron" Aaron said.

Cam got up and made a rapid retreat to Brendan's room with tears streaming
down his face. Brendan immediately got up and turned towards Aaron and said
"Dad I gotta go be with Cam, he needs me now more than anything in this
world."

"I agree Brendan, but be careful with him at the moment he has a lot going
through his mind."

(Brendan's POV)

Brendan slowly entered his room, and found Cameron sitting on the edge of
his bed with his head buried in his hands sobbing. "Cam I'm so sorry man, I
know your dad was your life." Slowly Brendan sat down next to Cam and
gently hugged Cam. Cameron latched onto Brendan for everything he had left
of his life.

After a while the sobbing subsided and Cameron looked up to Brendan with a
whisper he said "Brendan I have a secret that only my dad knew, and I don't
want to lose you too." Brendan's response was "Cam nothing you can say or
do would make you lose me." Cameron put another bear hug on Brendan and
said "but I'm gay, you're not gonna want me around no more now that I had
to tell my secret to you."

"Cam I think, umm... no, I know I'm gay to so your secret is safe with
me. I love you Cam, but I was always too afraid to tell you for fear of
losing my best friend" Brendan stated from the heart.

(Cameron's POV)

"Wow, I don't know what to think after today. I lost my dad, and worried
about losing you over my secret to learn you had the same secret
Brendan. But for the time being can we make sure nobody else finds out
about my secret. I don't know how everybody else would take it."

Brendan turned to Cam and said "Cam I'm sure everybody will be fine with
us, but lets worry about you and your dad for now. Everything else will
work out with time ok man?" Ya sure Cam thought to himself everything will
work out, like my dad being here for me he mulled over in his mind. "Ya
sure Brendan" Cam said.

"Brendan what is gonna happen to me now?" Cam asked briskly.

"Well I'm only guessing but my dad did say that your dad had papers made up
that if anything were to happen to him you were to become part of our
family permanently. So I guess my room, is now our room from now on. I'm
sure dad will take care of everything including you Cam" Brendan said with
conviction.

"But.... I mean... what if your mom and dad don't want me? What if I'm not
good enough? What if I mess things up? I mean I don't want you not liking
me because your stuck with me around here." Cam stated.

Brendan sat there contemplating a way to show or tell Cameron he was going
to be there for him until the end of his life. The only thing that Brendan
came up with was by reaching over and gently caressing his cheek and slowly
leaning in to Cam and giving a simple kiss. Cameron just sat there staring
off into the world.

"Um... uh... Brendan... I can't say I know how my life is going to go, but
with you by my side means the world to me."

"I'm never going to be far away Cam, anything you need I'm here and
hopefully you know that now" Brendan said.

"I do believe that now, just promise if you get tired of me that you will
tell me... ok?"

"Not gonna happen Cam, we grew up together, we have been friends ever since
we were born. Hell... all I know is you and Alex mean the world to me. I'm
not letting nothing happen to either of you." Brendan said.

A short while after that Alex knocked on the door saying " Dad got pizza
and said to have you guys come down to eat. But also Cam, I wanted to tell
you I know we aren't that close but from this point forward you got a new
big brother if you want me as one." Cam sat there with tears starting to
form again and whimpered out "thanks Alex, I think I'm going to need my new
big brother a lot from now on." Alex walked over to the bed and grabbed Cam
into a big hug and said "you got it bro, and I got your back from now on
little man."

The boys scampered down the stairs to the kitchen and commenced into an
eating machine that three teenage boys are only capable of. Aaron sat there
sipping on a cold beer watching the boys eat, as he himself wasn't all that
hungry after the day that he had. After four slices of pizza each the boys
looked and saw Max sitting at Cam's side eyeing up a piece of crust sitting
on the table. Cam reached down and scratched Max between the ears and asked
Aaron if he could give him the piece of crust. Aaron simply nodded. Max
took the crust and went under the table and woofed it down as if it were a
lobster with decadent butter.

After eating the boys went and got showers. Then all three boys came back
down stairs to say goodnight to Aaron. Alex headed to his room immediately
after, but Cam and Brendan lingered around the living room. Aaron sensed
there was something more that needed to be said and done at that point. He
got up from his recliner and hugged both of the younger boys and said "boys
I love you both and I may not say it enough but I do." Both the boys made
their retreat towards their bedroom.

Cam crawled into Brendan's bed and stared at the ceiling wondering how he
is going to face all of the changes ahead of him, but then he thought if
this is what had to happen atleast he has the best people in the world
caring about him. Both boys snuggled closely together with Brendan
embracing Cam, and sleep quickly took over.

The next morning both boys were laying in bed when they smelled bacon
cooking. Quickly both boys got out of bed and made haste using the bathroom
and rushing downstairs to find Mary home from work cooking breakfast. She
pulled the skillet from the stove and grabbed both Cam and Brendan into a
group hug, which both boys eagerly returned. Mary then told both boys how
much she loved them and that she was taking a week off of work to help sort
through the issues they faced as a family.

Cam asked Mary where Uncle Aaron and Max were, and her response was "they
had to go in to work to help with making arrangements, but they should be
back in about two hours hopefully and then Aaron is going to take the both
of you over to your old house to get your dad's uniform and stuff for the
funeral home to get ready for the funeral Cam. Also Cam, do you have dress
clothes? If not we will take you to get some new ones so you look good for
your dad. " Cam thought to himself for a bit before he responded "I have
dress clothes that my dad liked and I had for school pictures last year."
Mary said "ok while your at your old house make sure to grab them so I can
clean and press them and bring some of your stuff over that you many need
for a few days and we will get the rest of your stuff sorted after the
funeral. But for now lets eat I'm starved, the hospital food isn't that
good even if you're not a patient." Both boys laughed and dug in whole
heartily to the bacon and eggs that were presented to them.

At around noon Aaron and Max made their return home. Max made his mad dash
to his water bowl and drank like he was in the desert, which made the
younger boys laugh. Aaron and Mary shared a kiss, which made the Brendan
tell them to get a room mom and dad. Aaron turned and laughed before saying
"I think this house is my room, but actually we have more pressing things
to attend to. Are you boys ready to go?" Brendan and Cam nodded.

Aaron and the boys walked across the yard into Cameron's house. As Cameron
entered the house he said "This isn't home anymore, not without my dad. It
was hard when mom died but this is worse." Tears were trying to make their
escape, but Cam was putting up a good front. Cam looked to Aaron and said
"my dad's uniforms are in his closet do you ... would... could you get them
yourself I don't think I can go in there ever again." Aaron placed a firm
grip on Cam's shoulder and nodded. Aaron said for the boys to get whatever
Cam needed for a few days and reminded him to get his dress clothes. About
fifteen minutes later the guys returned home. Mary took Cams clothes to the
laundry room and got them washing saying she would make sure they were
perfect for the funeral.

Aaron said to everybody he was heading out to Carson's Funeral Home to drop
off the things they needed to complete the arrangements. Which he said
would discuss upon his return with everybody.

Alex decided to roll out of bed at two in the afternoon which Mary
chastised him about, but his response was "mom its summer and I like to
sleep in you know that." Which caused Mary and the other boys to laugh and
roll their eyes.

Around four pm Aaron returned home and the family went into the game room
to discuss the funeral arrangements. Aaron commenced with "guys the
visitation will start at 3 pm tomorrow and will last until 9 pm, the
funeral will start friday morning at 11 am and be held in the high school
auditorium. The funeral procession Cam will be quite large, last I knew
were have heard from over two hundred police departments that are planning
to be present in honor of your dad. There will be a grave side service
also, with honors and the governor will be there also. So if it is to much
for you Cam, you need to tell us your uncomfortable. Ok? We will all be
riding in a limo Cam, so you will have each of us but Max will also be with
us. Well I guess I covered everything and if I forgot anything Cam, I'm
doing the best I can." Cam got up and lunged into Aaron's arms crying
freely for everything he had done for his dad.

===========================================================================

Well there is chapter two guys, let me know what you think. Lots of stuff
to come in the next chapter, the funeral and many more issues present
themselves. Lots of love to the men and women in blue, and their families.
