"For Sale By Owner" 17

After showering, next morning, as Alex and Kyle awoke,
they searched, in quest of a cup of coffee.

"Devon?"

Lying on the sofa of the employees lounge Alex tapped
on Devon's shoulder.

"Devon... wake up."

"What?" He answered in a sarcastic tone.

"How come you're sleeping up here, instead of
downstairs with Knapp?"

"Knapp who?"

`Uh-oh' Alex and Kyle immediately thought.

Alex sat on the sofa right in front of Devon's
stomach, using it as the pit of an easy chair.

"Okay, what gives, bro?"

"Nothing."

"I'll check on the coffee," Kyle offered.

"Well, something's bugging you. C'mon. I'm your
friend. You can trust me," Alex told him.

"Trust, exactly."

"Huh?"

"Last night... well early this morning, Knapp comes to
me and says I gotta do him a favor."

"And?"

"He tells me he did something that made Dominic mad
and wants to make it up to him."

"I know what that's about. Go ahead though."

"The bastard asks me to sleep with Dominic."

"What tha?"

"Here's some coffee. Want some, Devon?"

"Forget the coffee, Kyle. Listen to this."

"Never mind," Devon says, not wanting to embarrass
Kyle.

"Tell me. What's up?" Kyle badgers him back. "Tell me,
or no coffee?"

However, Alex grows impatient, so he spills the whole
story to Kyle.

"Are you kidding me? Oh Devon I'm so, so sorry," Kyle
sympathizes.

"It's okay."

"It's `not' okay. I thought you and my bro had a thing
going."

"Never mind. Whatever it was, is history," Devon says.

Just then, Dominic enters.

"There was trouble with the dishwasher. The last load
is in the wash and... Hey, what's with you guys? Why
are you looking at me as if I've grown antlers?"

Kyle speaks on behalf of the three, "Did Knapp promise
you something?"

"Um... yeah. Why?"

Kyle didn't make the explanation verbally, rather took
the hardest swing he could and tried punching Dominic
straight in the abs.

"Uhhhhh!" Dominic belched, but was left standing.
"You're gonna have to do better than that, but can we
talk about it instead?"

"I think it's a dirty and rotten thing you did."

"What?"

"You and my brother trying to take advantage of
Devon."

"Devon?"

"Don't play dumb. I thought you were an `okay' guy,
Dominic, but...."

"Wait a minute, right there, Kyle. I don't have the
slightest of what you're talking about."

"Devon says Knapp was turning in a favor for you, by
having him sleep with you."

"Who? Devon? Sleep with me? I think you've got things
mixed up." Suddenly, Dominic gets on the defensive,
"You know what? This place is too screwed up for me.
Don't expect me back this evening."

"Wait Dominic!" Alex calls out. Passing by Kyle, Alex
says, "I have a feeling Dominic doesn't know what the
hell you're talking about. I suggest you try talking
to your big oaf of a brother?"

Hightailing it out of the lounge, Alex heads for the
parking lot. He sees one car of three revving up it's
engine, turning on it's headlights. He runs over to
the car, knocking on the back window, yelling, "Wait
Dominic!" However, Dominic backs up to make his exit.
Like a fool, Alex jumps in back of the car.
Barechested, Dominic's headlights shows off the faint,
but still visible `S', carved out of Alex's bod. Alex
has his hands on the hood. The headlights go off, the
engine turns off.

"What're you trying to do, Alex? Get yourself killed?"

"I hardly think you're that type of person, Dominic."

"Is that really what you think of me?" Dominic meant
all of them.

"No. And I don't think you're the type of person whom
takes sleeping with a guy's boyfriend, to make up for
a favor due."

"Is that what Knapp told you?"

"No. Knapp is sleeping comfy in his quarters while my
friend, Devon slept on the employee's sofa!"

"That rots. I didn't know that happened. I know Knapp
said something about making it up to me, but I never
dreamed he would go to these lengths. What an
asshole!"

"Can you do me an honest favor?" Alex asks.

"Sure."

"Can you come back inside and talk to Devon. I think
it would make such a difference if he heard your
version of this mixup, from you?"

The two made light chat, on their way inside.

"Sure I can do that. Poor guy. Tell you, I wouldn't
treat my boyfriend like that, if I had one," Dominic
relays to Alex.

"What about Dean?"

"Dean? Not my boyfriend. No, Dean is a free spirit.
Too flighty for a guy like me."

"Devon," Alex approached him, "Dominic has a few words
to explain things."

"You don't have to. I can already guess that you
didn't have anything to do with this. You already
proved to us you are a decent guy, by showing enough
concern to us, on the beach, earlier this morning."

"I'm so sorry."

"No problem. I just really feel like I want to go
home."

"But we don't have any way of getting home, Devon,"
Alex tells him.

"No problem," Dominic says, "I can give you a lift."

"No, you don't see, Dominic," Devon says, "we aren't
from around here."

"Oh? Where are you from?"

"Ever hear of Lake Quinn?"

"Sure I Have. Off of 280, in Pennsy, right?"

"In that general direction," Alex replies.

"No problem. If you guys are stuck, I don't mind the
trip."

"But you're tired, Dominic."

"Nothing two cups of java wouldn't cure!"

Just then Kyle, who has been downstairs, arrives.

"Well, he says he won't come upstairs. He says if
Devon wants to hear anything from him, to come
downstairs."

"Fuck him!" Devon says adamantly.

"I don't blame you. What a heel. C'mon. Get your stuff
together and I'll give you a lift home."

"But I was planning on taking you home myself," Kyle
says to Alex.

"I know, Kyle, but... things seem to be turning out
differently than planned."

Dominic doesn't know a whole lot about the three of
them, but senses the deep emotional patterns running
through Kyle and Alex.

"Why don't I take Devon home and you two can find your
own way, in your own time. You trust me don't you,
Devon?"

"Sure I do."

Devon has known Dominic for only about nine hours, but
it seems like he's known him for weeks. All along he
had an inkling that Dominic had no finger in the plot
hashed out by Knapp.

"Let me get some java and you can think whether you
want to come along."

"Thanks, Dominic," Devon says. "Um, Kyle, can you go
back downstairs and get my belongings."

"What do you have?"

"My whole change of clothing, the tux, briefs and
shoes."

"What about the G-string?" Alex asks.

"Right under here."

The two look as Devon lifts the leather pants away
from him, revealing the neon colors of the sling.

"Cool," Alex replies. "You don't mind going home with
Dominic, so I can spend more time with Kyle?"

"I have no problem with it, but remember coach said we
have to be back to school on Wednesday, for sure, no
excuses."

"I remember. You know I never miss a swimming
competition."

"Cool! I can stay to see it," Kyle says.

"What about your school?"

"I just have to show my face at graduation next week."

"Not a bad school, I'd say. I've just got to finish up
this last.....oh shit!"

"Whatsamatter?" Kyle inquires.

"This!"

Alex puts his hands on both sides of his stomach. The
`S' stands out!

"I'm ready if you are, Devon. Here, I have an extra
coffee for you."

Kyle says, "Let me get your stuff."

While downstairs, Kyle has a mind to say something to
Knapp, but he lets him snore away. He gathers up the
tuxedo, hung up nicely on a hanger, white shirt, shoes
and dress socks, then reports back upstairs.

"Sorry, Devon, but I couldn't find your briefs."

"That's okay, but do you have a tee shirt I can
borrow?"

"I'll be right back."

In five minutes, Kyle is tossing Devon an Abercrombie
shirt.

"Keep it, along with the leather pants."

"Won't Knapp miss them?"

"Who cares what he thinks," Kyle says.

"I guess I'll leave them on and use the tee shirt. See
ya later, Alex."

The two friends hug each other, then Devon exchanges a
hug with Kyle.

Kyle and Alex wave as Dominic and Devon pull away.
