This story is fiction. Any similarity to any persons living or dead is
merely a coincidence. If you are not allowed by law to view this material,
please do not do so. If you are under 18 years of age, please leave
now. This is a love story between two barely under the age of 18 year old
boys in high school. If that offends you, I apologize and ask that you not
read any further. Otherwise, enjoy.
The rest of the day was uneventful; graduation practice was
followed by several "This is the first day of the rest of your life"
speeches from various teachers that Ryne wasn't going to miss at all.
When Ryne had arrived home, he started cleaning. After he was
positive that his bedroom and bathroom were spotless, he sat on the couch
and turned on the TV, the rest of the house would wait until tomorrow. Ryne
couldn't even concentrate on his favorite show, Top Gear. His mind kept
going back to when he'd caught himself studying Cody. He couldn't figure
out why he was so infatuated with Cody, he barely knew him. They had never
really hung out. He had his group of friends, none of which fell into any
of the usual high school cliques. They pretty much just The only time
anything had ever happened like this was when he fell in love with a 1957
Chevy Bel-Aire, kind of a "love at first sight" thing. He had dreams about
that car for three months, and still has a photo of it on his desk.
"Surely I can't be in love with Cody; I'm not gay. " Ryne reassured
himself. In all actuality, Ryne had no clue. He had never been in a
relationship with anyone. His whole life he had been more involved with
cars than anything else. He knew that he preferred the company of guys, but
never thought anything of it because of the whole car-guy persona. He hung
out with Tony thousands of times and never had any sort of reaction. Now,
he talked with Cody for two minutes and can't stop thinking about him.
Before he could finish his last thought, his phone was vibrating in
his pocket. It was a text from his dad saying that he was going out of town
and wouldn't be home until Sunday night. While Ryne would have liked a
little bit more notice, he was kind of relieved. Since his dad was out of
town and his mother lived over 600 miles away he would be alone for the
weekend. He could use this time to figure out what the hell was going on in
his mind.
"Shit," Ryne exclaimed after looking at the timestamp on the text, "
It's almost six, I'd better get to the shop!"
With that, Ryne darted up to his room and changed into his work
clothes. By the time he'd gotten to the shop and changed the oil in his
truck, Cody was pulling up in a newer Chevy Blazer, similar to Ryne's.
"Hey Ryne, you look like you're having fun!" Cody smirked, pointing
at the oil stains on Ryne's shirt.
"Yeah, I guess you could say that," Ryne replied, "So what exactly is
going on with your car?"
After Cody explained what was going on, Ryne knew almost immediately
what was going on.
"It sounds like you need to replace your front brakes," Ryne said
with confidence, "Let me put it up on the lift and make sure."
Upon further examination of Cody's car, it turned out that Ryne was
in fact right. Luckily for Cody, Ryne had the parts on hand and was
finished repairing it in no time.
"Thanks so much, I really owe you one." Cody said with excitement
while trying to give Ryne some money.
"It's no big deal man, just a simple repair." Ryne insisted.
"If you won't let me pay you, at least let me buy you dinner."
Haggled Cody.
Ryne had been planning on cooking a frozen pizza when he got home,
but real food sounded so much better. Ryne finally gave in, " Alright, if
you insist."
While waiting for their food at The Lounge, Cody and Ryne just sat
there and talked. Ryne found that it was just extremely easy to talk to
him. Cody and Ryne talked more in those few minutes than he and Tony did in
the past two weeks. Ryne just wanted to hear his voice. Before Ryne had
realized it, he had invited Cody back to his place to watch a couple
movies, an invitation that Cody quickly accepted. After they had finished
eating and Cody had paid for their food, they both headed back to Ryne's
place.
Cody was extremely surprised to find out that Ryne's house was just
around the block from his own. When they pulled in the driveway, Ryne
hopped out of his truck and led Cody inside the house and up to his
room. Ryne had his room set up to be the ultimate home theater. A 42" LCD
TV sat opposite a comfortable-looking leather couch. Ryne also had a Sony
Playstation 3 hooked up and a 5.1 Bose surround sound system to provide the
ultimate in high definition entertainment. Cody just stood in awe.
"This is awesome", Cody exclaimed, "You must have people over all the
time to watch movies. "
"Actually, no.", Ryne confessed, "This is a first, well, besides
Tony. I usually just sit up here by myself and watch movies, it's kind of
my other thing besides cars."
"Well, if I had known you had all this, I would have been over here
every weekend."
As soon as those words had registered in Ryne's mind, he hoped that
this would turn into a regular thing for the two of them. He really liked
spending time with Cody. "You know you're welcome to come over anytime you
want. My home is yours."
"Thanks, that means a lot to me, I never really get time to relax. My
other friends are always wanting to play football or go party somewhere."
Cody replied quietly.
After both agreeing on a film from Ryne's expansive library, Ryne
invited Cody to take the couch and took the bed for himself. Since both of
them had seen the movie before, they were frequently distracted by casual
conversation that one of them had initiated. Ryne was surprised to realize
that he was talking to Cody like he was his best friend.
After finishing the first movie, Cody chose a second and put it in.
It wasn't long before both Ryne and Cody were dosing off. Ryne, having
always slept with the TV on turned the volume down to a more acceptable
level. Before they realized it, they were both out like a light.
It wasn't long before Ryne was lurched out of his slumber by a
noise he couldn't immediately figure out, but after a short time it was
unmistakably the sound of someone crying. That someone was Cody.
"Cody, you alright?" Ryne asked, concerned.
No answer.
Ryne was growing increasingly concerned with each moment that had
passed. A friend was sitting in his room, obviously in some sort of pain,
and he was not getting any sort of response from him. "Did I do something?"
Ryne asked himself.
After about five minutes, Ryne asked again, "Cody what's going on? Do
you wanna talk about something?"
"No, I'm fine. Just had a dream that really shook me up. Thanks
though."
With that, Ryne rolled over and went back to sleep.
