How I Lost My Virginity - by Boris Chen. Chapter 13. Mid May 1994.

By the middle of May I had lots more plans set. Like my testing appointment
was set and I was mostly ready thanks to tutoring from Gram. She also
helped motivate me as well. The more I get to know her the more she seems
like a more laid back version of my mom, which makes the loss much more
tolerable. I can honestly say I really love my grandmother much more than I
did last Christmas for our road trip to their house. I look forward to
coming home to spend time with her. This 75 year old lady is the bomb!

She has even started trying to walk Crow from time to time. Crow is a kid
magnet and Gram loves kids so she walks him near the elementary school a
few blocks from our house which means she gets swarmed by kids all wanting
to pet the `dog as big as a horse.' She does her Great Dane
education and always keeps one hand on his neck, just in case because dogs
behaviors don’t come with a guarantee.

The other possible problem for Gram is if Crow suddenly decided to run at
something. It happens so fast and strong that she is likely to get
hurt. Luckily, Crow seems to understand that Gram is old and frail, he's
always been very gentle with her. We got a short leash with a break away
section so if he bolts, the leash would break before pulling her over. It's
a risk I was willing to take.

About one week ago they were at the school playground during the recess
periods. She had introduced herself to the school staff, she is after all
Dr. Leslie Davis PhD (retired). And is well known in certain circles around
the state for her research and especially as being the mother of Lisa
Davis, who is seems everyone knows or at least heard of. And she probably
co-wrote most of the public school science books in Chemistry and Physics.

While they were on the playground, Crow was doing his best behavior a
raccoon came onto the field and starting approaching two kids who at first
thought it was a friendly animal. Suddenly the animal started attacking one
of the kids, they both started screaming. Teachers spun around and started
to approach but didn't know what to do without anything like a
broom or something to hit the raccoon.

Crow saw what was going on and bolted from Gram breaking the leash, luckily
for her anyway. He went straight for the animal. He circled around behind
while the raccoon was biting the child's upper legs while the child stood
frozen screaming and the other girl stood by also frozen in fear.

The teachers on the play field were trying to scare off the raccoon while
someone went for anything large they could use to beat the probably rabid
animal. Crow stood behind the raccoon briefly staring at the child and the
raccoon then lunged at the animal's neck slowly pulling it off the seven
year old girl's leg into which it had repeatedly sunk its teeth. The
raccoon loosened its grip and they said there was a short cracking sound
and the raccoon instantly went limp drooping like a rag doll in Crow's
mouth. Crow took a couple steps back with the limp raccoon still in his
mouth then dropped the animal and laid down between the raccoon carcass and
the girls while the school staff were finally able to approach. Both girls
in the attack fainted. Crow never budged until a school custodian put the
very dead raccoon into a trash bag. Gram with her bad knees finally got up
to Crow and took his leash in her hands.

They took his picture and made Crow the official school mascot. We were
told that a petition was started by the mother of the second girl to
re-name the school's junior varsity teams from the Orioles to the Danes.
And once again my freaking dog was a hero. I tell you, it's always
something with that dog. Never a dull moment. Not all but lots of Danes
have big personalities to fit their extra large size. Most Danes would
prefer to just stay home on the sofa and watch your TV.

Gram slowly made it home but never told me the story until I got a call
from the Amarillo Globe-News wanting to do a story about the hero dog. We
declined the story but thanked them for their consideration. Gram was
concerned about security when our names would be in the paper, especially
after he killed the Mexican drug cartel dude across the street from our old
house.

Another week of not seeing Tom went by. We spent more time talking on the
phone than we ever did before. Gram and I stayed focused on getting me
passed finals which were next week all on one day like last semester but I
was pumped confident and well prepared.

That weekend Gram and I went to the local title office to close on the sale
of our old house.

On Monday I signed up for dial-up internet access, the first available in
Amarillo from Am-Net for 56k baud service with my automatic dialing
modem. I got a copy of Netscape Navigator and used the internet to access
Compuserve. But it opened up a whole new world of online stuff to me. I
tried to convince Tom to convince his mom to do the same thing. They had
enough problems of their own to work on.

Finals day arrived. I drove myself to the school district main office and
did the seven hour torture thing with number two pencils, a calculator, and
a dozen pieces of scratch paper. When it was over I felt good. I even got
done about one hour early because of all the work I did with Gram over the
previous three weeks to prepare for the tests. I went to school the next
day like normal. I never told anyone I was testing except Daniel. We had
lunch that day. We had gym right after lunch but I was intercepted in the
hallway outside the locker room door by campus security to tell me that the
dean of students who wanted to see me right away in his office. My heart
sank because this is never good news.

Daniel tagged along even after I asked him not to because he could get a
zero for the day in gym. We sat in the waiting area outside the
dean's office. I half expected to see my crying grandmother walk
out of his office. What happened next was totally unexpected.

I was called into the deans office. Lots of wood paneling, book shelves, a
TV (muted) on CNN, and a police scanner (muted). He seemed happy asked me
to have a seat, I asked if my best friend Daniel could come-in too, he said
that would be fine.

I walked back to the door and motioned for Daniel. He had the look of fear
in his eyes too. We both walked over to his desk and took chairs across
from this very large man, an ex-college football player and all around
athletic guy. I'm sure he wasn't too impressed with either of
us.

He had a piece of greenbar paper in his hand reading it ignoring
us. Finally after about fifteen seconds he laid it down, leaned forward and
said...

Dean: "I heard about your loss earlier this year and I wanted to
tell you how sorry we all were to hear of the loss of your mother. But
despite all that turmoil your grades have in fact improved since then and I
understand you arranged to take your final exams weeks ahead of all the
rest of the senior class. Is this true young man?"

R: "Y-yes s-sir it is. Sir." I said stammering with sweaty palms and a lump
in my throat.

Daniel nodded but remained silent. I figured he was mostly lip reading
anyway.

Dean: "Well this is a print out of your grades for all your finals, which
you figured would be a good idea to take all on the same day, is this
correct son?"

R: "Yes, sir but I had a good reason for trying Sir. You see I
am..."

And after that word he interrupted me when he raised his voice telling
me...

Dean: "Well son I wanted you to be the first to see this print
out." He handed me the print out showing all my classes and the
final grades for each with my name and date of birth on the top but still
showing my mom as the emergency contact.

It was all A's. I about wet myself. I handed it to Daniel who
looked it at first as if it was in a foreign language, then he quickly
flipped it back to me, I pushed it into my pocket.

The dean stood behind his desk smiling at me, leaned down picking up his
phone and called his secretary. Dean: "Mrs. Miles can you bring
the letter in here now please?" He hung up the phone and smiled at
me. Moments later the door opened, in walked a lady in a skirt handed him
an envelope. He handed it to me and then said, "Son, you can go home
now. You are a high school graduate with honors. You have broken the record
for highest final exam grades at Amarillo High School, first ever to
graduate with 100% correct in every test, and three weeks early
too!"

The dean stuck out his hand to shake mine but Daniel grabbed my elbow and
pulled me from his office, into the hallway, into the nearest bathroom,
into the furthest stall, locked the door, where he smashed his face into my
chest, I pressed my face into the top/side of his head and we both cried
like children and hugged each other with an energy I have never experienced
before in my life since first grade with Daniel.

We held each other crying in that gross toilet stall for maybe ten minutes
and started to regain our composure. He took a step back from me still
holding my arms, slid his hands up my chest to my face pulling me down five
inches to lip lock with him where we tongue kissed for a while. I have no
idea how long but I knew the part of my life in which we wrote the Book of
Daniel was now writing it's last chapter. We both knew I was leaving and he
was staying and it hurt bad.

As we kissed we both felt the tears on our faces and tried to kiss and
sniffle at the same time.

We pulled apart staring into each others eyes and each others souls. This
was a time for 100% honesty.

D: "You're leaving, aren't you?"

R: "Yes Daniel, I am, soon." I said failing miserably trying not
to cry more.

D: "Will I ever see you again?" he sobbed.

R: "That depends totally on you. Anytime you want to visit, just email and
I'll make sure you get to Galveston and back home safely, I promise."

D: "Oh yeah, how you gonna do that Davis?"

R: "Daniel, let me repeat that." I slid my hands up to the sides of his
face making sure he could only see me, and see right into my eyes and
nothing else. "I said, whenever you want to come to Galveston to visit,
just email me and I will make it happen. I promise."

D: "Oh yeah?"

R: "I promise."

D: "Yeah like how?"

R: "I promise."

D: "Really?"

R: "Dan, will you please listen to me. I said I PROMISE!" I said yelling
into his hearing aid."

D: "Fucker. I'm not deaf you know."

R: "Yes asshole, you are deaf!" we both just smiled into each others watery
eyes.

Dan stood staring at me with tears in his eyes. He looked as sad as
I've ever seen him before.

R: "I promise."

Silence, but he stared into my eyes looking for any signs of hesitation or
doubt, but there wasn't any. I was dead serious and he felt that.

R: "I promise." I said again staring deep into his blue eyes.

Now I was starting to cry a little. My lower chin and lip were quivering
and tears were starting to drip from my eyes.

R: "I promise." I barely got out the words.

Daniel remained still staring up into my eyes. I stood staring down into
his eyes. Then he leaned into me again laying his forehead into my chest
and placed his hands on my hips and remained there for about two minutes.

With tears in his eyes he told me, "I'm gonna miss you Robbie." Again we
held each other for a while. I pulled him in tight to me. That was the
first time he ever called me Robbie.

After a short time Daniel stepped back one step and placed his hands on my
shoulders, then slid them down my chest rubbing his fingers over my nipples
which usually stuck out a little in my t-shirts. Then he made his way down
to my jeans. He undid my zipper and button. I stood by and let him do
whatever he wanted.

He reached into my pants and grabbed my dick and held it until I got
hard. Then he leaned over taking my head into his mouth, for the first
time. I let him do it. He sucked me for maybe three minutes then put me
away and returned my pants to normal. He never said a thing. I had my hands
on his shoulders the whole time. He stood back up straight.

D: "I think I better go, gym period is half done and I don't want to get
another zero."

We walked to the sink to wash our faces. We smiled but never spoke. We
parted ways at the bathroom door.

I went to my locker to see if there was anything I needed. I took my winter
coat and one note book and left the rest. I opened my wallet and fished out
all of the remaining money, I had about $49. I put $45 of it into the vent
slot on Daniel's locker which was about five down from mine. I took one
dollar bill and in pen I wrote, `I PROMISE" on it and stuffed it to into
the vent slot on his locker. Then walked towards the main school entrance.

Security Guard: "Uh, you need to sign out to leave campus early!"

R: "No, I don't think so." I shouted back.

I walked to the bus stop and sat on the bench thinking about the
conversation I just had with Daniel. He probably felt like he was losing me
for good. I hoped I convinced him that a trip to Galveston was only one
email away, he didn't know about my inheritance.

I got on the bus and two blocks from the apartment complex we passed Gram
walking Crow on the sidewalk with a crowd of people by Crow petting him and
talking to Gram about the huge black dog. Nobody but us knew he was now a
two time decorated hero. To Crow he was just a good member of the pack and
a good dog. To me he was about my best friend ever. I was so proud of him,
but I had no way of telling him that. I wondered to myself, how could you
tell a dog you were proud of him?

I got home before Gram and Crow. It took her about another twenty minutes
to get home. Crow ran in ahead of her tail wagging. I saw him smiling when
he ran across the living room to greet me with the traditional tongue lick
and head butt. Luckily I don't wear glasses or they'd be needing repairs
right about now. Gram seemed really happy too.

We discussed dinner. She asked me about school tomorrow and what was on my
schedule. I said I didn't have to go to school any more. She seemed
puzzled. I fished the print out from the dean's office from my
pocket and handed it still crumpled and a little damp.

Gram carefully unfolded the paper with her enlarged knuckles in her
slightly shaky hands and stood staring at it for a while, then looked up
into my eyes. Correction, way up into my eyes because I really towered over
her and Gramps by now.

She grabbed my mid section and hugged me tight. Then she held up her hand
and said, "High Five!" so I obliged and gently high fived her. She held out
her palm horizontal and said, "gimme skin" which I also gently
did. Then she made a fist holding her hand with the fist aiming right at my
stomach and said, "Fist Bump" which I did but she yanked her hand away and
hollered "Too Slow Boy!" we laughed and hugged again.

Then she took the paper over to the leather recliner my mom used to call
home, took her reading glasses off the table put them on her eyes and more
carefully examined the print out.

She looked at me and said, "Robbie, take a seat." She pointed to the
sofa. She sat on the recliner, pulled the lever back raising her legs
halfway and stared at the paper some more. Her head shook side to side as
if nodding `no' and said, "I'll be!" She took off her glasses and looked
at me. Then she grabbed the cordless phone and called Gramps. I could hear
it ring but I couldn't make out his voice.

Gm: "Hi. Yes, it's here and it's early. Yes, he said
he got it in school today and just handed it to me just a moment
ago. Yes. Oh no. It's worse than that. No, I told you we worked on this for
three weeks but he did all the work really I just helped a little and
convinced him he could do it. Yes. All of them. That's right dear, every
class. Yes, totally. No I think the school is only about ten years old I
doubt it has before. Yes. Yes I will. Okay then. Love you too, Bye."

She pulled the phone from the side of her head, stared at the buttons and
pressed the one to make it hang-up.

She set the phone down and spoke to me still sitting on the sofa with the
great dane by my side.

Gm: : Robbie your grandfather wants me to fax this to him."

R: "Oh?"

Gm: "Yes son this is an unusually good report card, in fact I doubt this
has ever been done at your high school before. Did the dean of students
tell you anything about it?"

R: “Yes he said it was a record breaker."

My grandmother sat staring at me for a moment. "Well I'll be God Damned!"
she said loudly again.

Gm: "Robbie, if you're capable of grades like this than there is no reason
why you should go to community college in the fall, you should be going to
the university."

R: "But Gram, I never took the SAT."

Gm: "You let me worry about that young man. Anyone who can bury their
mother and pull off a 4.0 GPA in the same semester doesn't need to take any
damn SAT exams in my book or your grandfather's book either."
She said staring with an almost angry expression on her face.

She grabbed her small personal phone book and picked up the cordless and
dialed another number, paused for a moment, then said, "High
it's Leslie Davis. Extension 2213 please. Yes, Hello? Well we got our
grades today, it was a surprise to me too. Yes. Are you sitting down? Four
point zero!" She shouted into the phone. They talked for maybe thirty more
seconds then hung up.

R: "Who did you call?"

Gm: "That's a secret but you'll eventually see."

R: "The dean told me I was done with school and didn't need to come back."

Gm: "Yes, I imagine he did! Did he also tell you you broke all the school
records?"

R: "He said something like that but I was too distracted to pay
attention to what he was saying."

Gm: "Well a 4.0 GPA at graduation is not totally rare but to go from a 3.2
to a 4.0 in the same semester as the death of your mom, and to do it all in
one day, and to do it three weeks early on material you never had in and
class and have as much time off from study as you did is extremely rare
son." She said with a huge smile!

I felt all the attention and fuss was a bit overblown but went along with
the praise just to get past it.

Gram seemed so happy I thought she was gonna pass out or something from
sheer happiness. The more I get to know her the tougher and more lively she
seems to actually be compared to the wrinkled grey haired person on the
outside.

We talked about eating out.

While we discussed where to eat I fed Crow and did the dishes, started the
dishwasher and clothes dryer.

We agreed on the Mexican place downtown at 7pm. I had two pop tarts while
we had about three more hours to wait. She called to reserve a table.

I went to my room and emailed Tom about my grades then Daniel. All I put in
my email to him were the words, `I PROMISE'

While we were waiting until 6:45 to leave for dinner I went through my room
and gathered up all my high school related stuff and threw it all in the
trash. All I saved was my calculator and my favorite pens.

We went to dinner that night. Just Gram and me. We were so happy. She
smiled more than I have ever seen her smile in one day before. I think in
some way I might have redeemed myself as the only non-university educated
person in the family. I can honestly say that my grandparents were very
impressed.

Two weeks later I got a letter from the dean of students at UT Galveston
inviting me to come talk to him about their journalism school and the
undergrad program. He mentioned a masters in english and journalism and
photography more than once. It was not a form letter but an actual letter.

Gram and I were wrapping up things at the apartment. Packing into boxes and
figuring out what we did or didn't need over the next three
weeks. Crow was freaked out by the disappearance of most of our stuff as
the movers arrived four times to haul away stuff for their home on the
coast.

Tom and I spent lots of time together.

I hung out at Star’s three days a week and left big tips. I got
to know his mom more. Two days they were short staffed and asked me to work
in the kitchen washing dishes and pots-pans. Which I did and refused
pay. But they did pay me a little with food. Tom and his mom are personally
and financially involved in their Star's franchise and their very faithful
customer base. I hear they are more popular than the local Wendy's and BK
and DQ stores.

One day while I was sitting all by myself in the dining room at Stars I was
listening to a bunch of cowboy looking dudes talking about dog fighting. I
pinched my nose popping my ears and listened really close. I got a pen from
my pocket and wrote stuff down from what I overheard them say. When it
looked like they were getting ready to leave I also acted like I was
leaving and walked to my car but glanced at their license plates and wrote
them both down as they climbed into their extended cab Ford F250 trucks and
rumbled off.

Not knowing what else to do, I called Detective Zeller and read her my
notes and asked if I could be there if they raided the dog fight, she said
probably not but she'd let me know.

Three days later a cop I never met before showed up at our apartment
door. I opened it, he walked into a sea boxes. He said, "If you want to see
it happen right now is the time."

Gram had no idea what was going on so I said I'd be right back and I'll
explain later. I grabbed Crow’s leash, hooked him up and climbed
into the back of the police cruiser so we could take off quickly from the
apartment complex parking lot. We drove across town, then to the interstate
towards the east, out past the edge of town to near a large cattle
operation. I never saw so many cop cars, except for my mom's funeral. There
were lights everywhere, rifles and shotguns everywhere. Cops in body armor
everywhere. Helicopters overhead, news and police and FBI.

Crow and I watched as FBI and Texas Rangers lead about sixty guys in
handcuffs into a prison bus. Then there were about ten dudes in shackles
they put into two vans without windows, unmarked white vans. Crow stood by
my side leaning into me with a line of hair standing up on his back staring
his Great Dane Power Death Stare at the guys getting into the two vans. I
could feel a very low pitched rumble of a growl come from his throat as we
both watched them pile into the vans. Lucky for them I had a good grip on
his leash. I honestly think if I had let him go Crow would have taken a
life or two of those anti-social murdering bastards. I was mad as can be
staring at them.

An FBI guy walked up to me asking if I was Lisa's son, I said I was. He put
his hand on my shoulder and walked me to his SUV. We climbed into the back
seat, his partner climbed into the passenger side front seat.

FB1: "Robert, my name is Agent Weaver, this is Agent Wilkinson.”

R: "Hello Sirs.”

FB1: "Robert, I know little has been explained to your or your grandparents
about the on-going investigation into your mother's murder (I
suddenly had pain in my stomach and chest). I want to get to the point
right away. Look, it seems you are not as safe as we thought you would be
here, and we know you just finished school this week and we need to
re-locate you and your grandmother back to Galveston as soon as possible,
tomorrow if possible. It's for your own safety."

R: "Uh, okay?"

FB2: "I know this is a lot to throw at you at this particular
point in your life son, we're only thinking about your safety. There are
some bad dudes in Texas right now and it's hard sometimes for us
to keep a handle on who is in town and who isn't, so since you're moving
soon anyway all we want to do is speed things up for you, is that okay
son?"

R: "Uh, I'm sure my grandma won't mind at
all.”

FB1: "Okay then some people will arrive at your place tomorrow
to help you two finish packing and get you on the road tomorrow if that's
okay?"

R: "So I have no extra time to say goodbye to my friends?"

FB1: "You can do that anytime by phone or email, but we're talking bad
dudes and your safety so best thing right now is for you two to leave
Amarillo as soon as possible, I don't want to scare you but it's
not safe right now. You're coming here was probably not a good idea either
but we're taking that up with the APD."

R: "Okay, whatever then."

FB2: "Fine."

R: “How do I get home?"

FB1: "We'll have someone take you there. And by the way, thanks
for the tip to Sergeant Zeller, your information helped us close a two year
investigation into animal abuse, drug dealing, illegal gambling, and dog
fighting that covered a 100 mile range from Amarillo. Those bad guys we
hauled off to the supermax have been wanted for years. Your tip closed
files on twenty wanted fugitives.”

I leaned back into my seat to ponder what they told me. Crow leaned his
chin onto my leg. Agent Wilkinson got out of the car. We took off down the
dusty dirt road for the interstate highway and headed back into town. I
asked if we could stop at Tom's, the agent said that was fine.

We stopped in Tom's driveway, both cars were there so I knew it was time.

We both walked to the door, Maria freaked out thinking he was immigration
or something. She's totally legal born in the USA citizen just
like me but there's this community fear of the feds.

Tom and I walked into his room and shut the door while Agent Weaver and
Maria talked. Turns out he spoke fluent Spanish and they talked food the
whole time and really hit it off.

R: "Tom, I got news.”

T: " I figured out something bad was up when you showed up with an FBI
agent as your personal driver."

R: "Tomas (I only called him by his name in their native Spanish when I had
something really important to say), I have to leave tomorrow, stuff has
happened I will explain later but for my safety and my grandmothers we need
to leave for the coast tomorrow. I'm so sorry.”

T: "Can I see you again?”

R: "Fuck yes, anytime you want. So like our plan. As soon as you
graduate, in two and a half weeks, then as soon as you are packed, just
call or send me an email and we'll send for you and your stuff. It's
totally up to you. Esta fine?"

T: "No. No esta fine. My heart is breaking asshole."

R: "Tomas, I'm only moving across the state and everything is ready for
your arrival. Just call or email me when you're ready and I'll
handle everything. Just get packed and call. Okay?"

T: "What about my car then?"

R: "Either leave it or drive it but your stuff I can have shipped no
problem, just say the word. Either way I gotta go tomorrow. I'll
explain everything soon, I promise."

T: "I'm gonna miss you, Roberto."

R: "I'm gonna miss usted y su madre too Tomas, yo te quiero."

Silence. We stood holding each other in his bedroom in silence for a few
moments.

R: "Look I gotta run."

T: "Fuck."

R: “As soon as you're ready, call me and I'll send
for your stuff, okay?"

T: “Okay."

R: "I gotta go. And start applying for UT Galveston tomorrow at
school!"

Tom stared into my eyes, his last reading of my soul and my real intent. I
stared back unblinking. Then he leaned into me kissing me on the lips.

T: "Asshole."

R: “I'll explain everything when you get to the coast, you'll
understand then but we're not safe here anymore. That's why Wilkinson is
here too."

T: "Wow, I guess it's really serious. I think mom is hitting on the FBI
dude!"

I hugged him and headed for the bedroom door. I walked to the living room
and told the agent I was ready to go. He stood up shaking Maria's hand. We
left with the two of them standing in their driveway waving bye. I wanted
to cry but was glad at least Crow was right there with me.

We never spoke but he dropped me off in the parking lot outside my
apartment. I went inside to the sea of boxes. Gram was sitting on the sofa
watching the news on TV about the huge FBI raid. She told me I should come
watch, I told her I needed to walk the dog and pretended to be
disinterested.

I walked Crow and spent the rest of the night with Gram packing stuff and
making lists of things in which box. We both went to bed early. I had a
hard time sleeping but Crow didn't. I woke him up around midnight and asked
him to come sleep with his head on the pillow next to mine, he moved
without any fuss, I think he knew I was stressed and needed him. We hugged.

I laid on my right side facing Crow. He laid on his left side facing
me. His nose was maybe six inches from mine. I put my arm over his side and
apologized for his loss of mom and the moving and all the weird stuff and
changes. I thanked him for being an extra good dog and told him about six
times that I loved him. He picked up his head and laid a small lick on my
cheek and laid his head back down. I said ‘thanks.' I held his
right paw as we stared into each others eyes for a few minutes, then I told
him repeatedly that I loved him and he was a good dog. I started to
tear-up.

We laid still facing each other, he put on his smile face once we were done
talking. I put my hand on the side of his head and rubbed him slowly and
lovingly. I leaned in placed a kiss on his face where his first gray hairs
appeared just to the side of his huge nose just above his right lip. He
looked back at me and blinked a few times. I cleared my mind of thought and
got a brain-wave message from him that he loved me too and missed mom. We
fell asleep facing each other like two dogs in a pack.

In my dreams Crow never appears as a dog, he always appears as an old man,
like an elderly member of some ancient indian tribe wearing face paint but
nothing on his head. Tonight I had a dream of Soaring Crow the Indian
leader as a person like an elder wise man. He took me by the arm and lead
me to a nearby river where we sat and talked about life, friends, honor,
honesty, faith, and dedication to the tribe. Then Soaring Crow the indian
told me something he never said before in any of my dreams, he said he
really loved me and appreciated all I did for him in his dog life and felt
truly blessed and looked forward to when we could meet as equals so he
could shake my hand and hug me like a man. I lowered my head and cried my
head in shame. Then in my dream Daniel and Tom approached wearing only
buffalo skin shorts and sat next to me offering me a drink of water. We sat
by the edge of the river in silence the rest of the night touching knees in
a tight circle. Then my dream ended.

I felt at peace.
