Chapter 1
"Your smile."

I sat in home room, gazing out the window from time to time. It was the
beginning of my 3rd year of high school. I was mesmerized by a small bird
who had been fighting with a bigger bird for some time now. Sometimes I
felt like the little bird. I was snapped out of my daydreaming when I was
hit in the head with something.

Mai: "Well Tsuzuki? Are you gonna play or are you gonna stare out the
window all day?!"

That's my best friend Mai; she's kinda competitive when it comes to playing
games. I rubbed my head a bit and glared at her.

"What's the point? I'll end up beating you and becoming the Dai Fugo once
again..."

I laughed and she giggled as well. We were playing our favorite card game
"Dai Hin Min". It's kind of like the American game battle.

"Fine... I'll play... this, Revolution!!!"

I held up four kings and placed them on the pile. Just as Mai was about to
pout, I heard a familiar voice from behind me.

Boy: "Why do you even try Mai?"

Mai: "Ha, I never turn down a challenge, you should know that Shun!"

I turned and smiled. It was my best friend of eleven years, Shunichi
Nakamura, or as his friends called him, Shun.

"Hey Shun, how's it going?"

Shun: "Meh... I'm hanging in there I guess. So I see you two are playing an
excruciating round of Dai Hin Min... mind if I play?" He grinned
devilishly. The only person who could beat me was him, and he knew it. He
placed his hand on my head and messed my hair. "Or are you afraid I'll beat
you again?"

"You're on buddy boy!" I said, faking an intimidating voice.

Shun: "How bout we make it a bit more interesting...?"

"Ok... what ya have in mind?"

Shun: "Well if you win I'll treat you and Mai at lunch, but if I win..." He
moved closer to my face, I could feel his warm breath on my
lips. "...you're mine..."

Mai giggled as I blushed brightly. I hated when he played around like
this. Not really, but it still embarrassed the hell out of me. He loved to
make jokes like that every since I came out to him and Mai our first year
here. I pushed him off, although he barely moved since he was way more
built than me.

"Yeah, you wish!" I said with a playful smile.

All three of us broke into laughter. We only stopped when our teacher came
in and silenced the whole class.

Mr. Ito: "Alright class, as you all know this is the beginning of the
school year, and all of you know what that means..." Oh great, here we
go... "It's time to split up into your after school cleaning groups!" he
said with a huge grin.

I hated cleaning but it was all the better that I got to hang out with Mai
and Shun even more. We looked at each other and groaned.

Mr. Ito: "The principal, Ms. Haru, wants me to split you up into teams
which I will be choosing." What?! "Alright now listen for your names..."

Me and the guys exchanged looks of utter terror. Neither one of us wanted
to be in any other group, especially Shun. Shun had a huge anger issue with
everyone except for Mai and me. This had caused him a lot of fights in the
past, given that he did win them all though...

Mr. Ito: "Tsuzuki Nakamura?"

"Yes Sensei?"

Mr. Ito: "Your partner is... Ryoichi Shigenoi!"

My heart completely stopped as I turned to look at my partner. He looked at
me as well and gave me a nod and a friendly smile. My heart jumped and I
turned around blushing. Ryoichi, Ryo as everyone called him, was one of the
most popular jocks in school. I've had such a huge crush on him since
middle school, every since he stood up for me. It was in the ninth grade
and we were in gym. We had just been dismissed and were in the boys' locker
room. A couple of the guys surrounded me and pushed me down because I had
dropped the ball during our basket ball game. Hey, it's not my fault I have
no coordination what-so-ever. Anyways they were both ganging up on me when
Ryo jumped in and told them to chill out. They both glared at him, then to
me and decided that I wasn't worth it, thank god. Anyways, Ryo helped me up
and told me to take it easy and then gave me one of his awesome smiles that
always make me melt. Every since then I had dreamed of dating him, but of
course he was straight. It was Mai who finally snapped me out of my
thoughts.

Mai: "Uhh... you alright Ki-chan?" Ki-chan was her nickname for me,
although I wasn't much younger than her.

"Huh..? Oh, yeah. Just fine." I looked off into space a bit.

Shun: "Pfft... I guess our little Suzu is all grown up and chasing boys."
He said in a strangely angry tone. I knew why. Suzu hated Ryo every since
he and him got into a fight about Ryo accidentally tripping him in
lunch. You can say it. Shun's a bit hot headed.

Mai: "Oh great, looks like I'm stuck with Shun as my partner.." She
pretended to be disappointed.

Shun put his arm around her and squeezed her playfully.

Shun: "Sorry babe, looks like you're stuck with me."

We all had another good laugh as Mr. Ito left the class to talk to another
teacher. I glanced at Ryo again, and surprisingly found him staring at
me. When he realized I saw him he quickly looked away and blushed a bit. I
wonder if he was dreading our cleaning duty which ironically enough
happened to be today.

Ryo's Point of view

It was another boring year. Ryo tried to balance his pencil on his nose. He
heard giggling from across the class and looked at a small group of girls
in the corner who were watching him. He sighed a bit and put the pencil
back on his desk. "Fan girls..." Then he heard some one laugh. He smiled a
bit to himself thinking that whoever was laughing sounded cute. He turned
to see who it was coming from and saw Tsuzuki laughing with his friends. He
laughed at himself a bit. Tsuzuki was a cool guy, although he didn't know
him too well. He always had a cute laugh.... wait, cute? He was talking
about a guy here. He shook the thought from his head when he realized he
was gawking and him. Suddenly Mr. Ito walked into the room.

Mr. Ito: "The principal, Ms. Haru, wants me to split you up into teams
which I will be choosing." What?! "Alright now listen for your names..."

"Great..." He thought, and sighed a bit, wishing the day would end already.

Mr. Ito: "Tsuzuki Nakamura?"

Ryo looked up after hearing Tsuzuki's name. He wondered who he'd be
partnered with.

Mr. Ito: "Your partner is... Ryoichi Shigenoi!"

Ryo was relieved. He was hoping not to be partnered with one of those fan
girls who'd rip him to shreds. He knew Tsuzuki wouldn't let him down. He
looked at Tsuzuki who was looking back at him, nodded, and flashed him a
smile. Tsuzuki smiled back and looked away. Ryo continued to glance at
Tsuzuki from time to time. He has such an amazing smile... He realized at
how beautiful he looked with the sun from outside hitting his face just
right. He seemed like he was glowing. Wait a second? He just thought that
another guy looked beautiful.... Suddenly Tsuzuki turned around and looked
at him. Ryo quickly looked away and felt himself blush. What was up with
him? Why couldn't he get Tsuzuki out of his mind? For some reason he had no
clue why. He knew he wasn't gay. He'd never felt this way about a guy
before. Well he didn't know what to expect from the future, but all he
could do was wait.

Shun's Point of view

I had been late several times before and hoped that Mr. Ito wasn't in yet.
As I approached the classroom, I poked my head in. "No sign of him." I
sighed a sigh of relief and walked in. Immediately I spotted my friends and
walked over to them. They were playing my favorite game, Dai Hin
Min. Tsuzuki was beating Mai, as usual. I stopped behind Suzu.

"Why do you even try Mai?"

Mai: "Ha, I never turn down a challenge, you should know that Shun!"

I grinned as Tsuzuki turned around and smiled at me that beautiful way that
always made me feel warm on the inside.

Tsuzuki: "Hey Shun, how's it going?"

Shun: "Meh... I'm hanging in there I guess. So I see you two are playing an
excruciating round of Dai Hin Min... mind if I play?" I grinned devilishly.
I messed up his hair a bit. "Or are you afraid I'll beat you again?"

Tsuzuki: "You're on buddy boy!" He said, trying to sound tough.

"How bout we make it a bit more interesting...?"

Tsuzuki: "Ok... what ya have in mind?"

I smiled evilly. "Well if you win I'll treat you and Mai at lunch, but if I
win..." I moved closer to his face, I wanted to kiss him so
badly."...you're mine..."

Mai giggled and he blushed brightly. I knew they thought I was playing. "If
only he knew..."

Tsuzuki: "Yeah, you wish!" He said with a playful smile.

All three of us broke into laughter. We only stopped when Mr. Ito came in
and silenced the whole class.

Mr. Ito: "Alright class, as you all know this is the beginning of the
school year, and all of you know what that means..."
Blah.. blah.. blah... "It's time to split up into your after school
cleaning groups!" he said with a huge grin.

I groaned a bit, but if it meant spending more time with Suzu...

Mr. Ito: "The principal, Ms. Haru, wants me to split you up into teams
which I will be choosing." Aw hell... "Alright now listen for your
names..."

I looked at the other two and we looked like we were gonna die.

Mr. Ito: "Tsuzuki Nakamura?"

Tsuzuki: "Yes Sensei?"

Mr. Ito: "Your partner is... Ryoichi Shigenoi!"

I was angry. I absolutely hated Ryo. He thought he was so smug with his fan
club all over the school. I looked at Tsuzuki who seemed kind of out of it.

Mai: "Uhh... you alright Ki-chan?" Ki-chan was her nickname for me,
although I wasn't much younger than her.

Tsuzuki: "Huh..? Oh, yeah. Just fine."

This made me even more mad. I knew Tsuzuki had a crush on Ryo, and now he
and Suzu were going to be here after school, alone!

"Pfft... I guess our little Suzu is all grown up and chasing boys." Ok,
that was a little bitter.

Mai: "Oh great, looks like I'm stuck with Shun as my partner.." She
pretended to be disappointed.

I laughed a bit and put my arm around her then squeezed her playfully.

"Sorry babe, looks like you're stuck with me."

We laughed a bit more until Tsuzuki looked back at Ryo who was... staring
right back at him with a dazed look on his face!!! Oh hell no. You may
wonder why I am worried about Mr. Shigenoi. Well, let's just say I know
what that look means, because I give it to Tsuzuki all the time, and
believe me, it isn't a look you give all your friends. If I wanted Suzu, I
was gonna have to act and fast.

Special blah blah blah part one:

Well, this is my first attempt at a story. Feel free to e-mail me with
creative criticism only, please. houston_dude_4488@yahoo.com

Originally my plan was to make all my characters American, but I've really
gotten into the Japanese culture over the past year or so, so I decided to
make it based in japan. I love a challenge!

I apologize if I offend anyone, I still don't know everything about the
culture but I do learn more each day. I mean no disrespect to any
traditions and such. I am just so fascinated with the culture itself.

For those who don't know, chan is a term that is usually used by older
people when referring to younger people, usually children. Most Japanese
school systems work like this:

Elementary School: grades 1-6
Middle School: grades 7-9
High School: grades 10-12

Basically all the main characters are seniors in high school. Mai, Shun,
and Ryo are all seventeen while Tsuzuki is only seventeen.

If I have any of the information wrong, please feel free to correct me, but
only if you know I am wrong for sure!

Well I hope you enjoyed, and thank you for reading.
