3 years later...

****

Dressed in dark clothing and jackets, two men carefully moved through the
shadows of the predawn December darkness. Reaching their target, the
backdoor of the townhouse's first floor garage, they paused for a moment to
listen for sounds and to check the area for any signs of observers. After
satisfying himself that all was clear, a large well-built man used a narrow
locksmith's tool, quickly defeated the deadbolt lock of the door and the
duo entered the garage. Locking the door behind them, they found places to
hide using shielded flashlights and settled down to wait...

****

The irritating blare of the clock alarm jerked Scott and Josh to
semi-wakefulness. After finding the snooze button, Scott rolled over, gave
Josh a gentle hug and groggily said, "Time to get up, honey," and stroked
Josh's arm.

Grumbling under his breath Josh replied, "I'd rather sleep more, especially
after last night." Scott chuckled at Josh as they heard the coffeepot
starting up at its programmed time. Getting out of the bed sans clothing as
usual, they gave each other their customary long hug and passionate kiss.

"I don't wanna go to work. I'd rather stay home and make slow love to you,"
Scott murmured while nuzzling Josh's neck.

"I wish that too, love. We can't miss work today, remember? It's the yearly
performance review day and we have to show up. Duty calls." They both knew
passing this review was critical if they were to receive the expected
promotions and afford their dream place instead of this townhouse they had
shared during the months since Scott turned 18.

Scott gave Josh a dirty look and stretched his muscular frame. "I know," He
said. "I'd rather stay in bed with you regardless. Last night was so
wonderful. My ass still hurts from that pounding you gave me."

Laughing at that complaint, Josh bantered, "I wonder if you're pregnant
yet. Heaven knows we've tried often enough the last few years. I admit last
night was the best we've had in some time though."

"It sure was. I wouldn't mind doing that again tonight," Scott seductively
purred, running a hand down Josh's chest.

Moaning in response, Josh pulled Scott close and they shared a passionate
kiss, his tongue probing Scott's mouth. A few moments later, Scott broke
off the kiss. "I need to get in the shower or we'll be late, as much as I
want to stay in your arms."

"I know. Wish we could take a personal day off and stay home with each
other. With all of the workload we've both had, working out and being over
at our parent's places because of the holidays, we've not really had much
time alone," Josh grumbled.

Growling in agreement, Scott padded off to the shower and Josh selected
gray power-style suits from their extensive wardrobe. Hearing the sound of
water running, Joshua reflected on the changes in their lives since they
had gotten married ^Ö Josh's college education, the jobs they both had
secured in their dad's architectural design workplace, his acquiring the
townhouse and Scott's moving in the day he had turned 18 nearly six months
prior. It was an amazing change over the last 5 years from when they had
confessed their love for each other on that hot summer day playing
basketball.

Breaking his reverie, Josh walked to the bathroom and relieved himself as
the shower fell silent and Scott reached out for his towel. Finishing up,
Josh felt Scott's hand touch and rub his ass. Chuckling at the instant
response his cock gave, "Boy, you know all the right triggers."

"Well, I've had 5 years of practice, remember old fart?" Scott taunted.

Laughing, Josh turned around and held him close, giving Scott a tender
kiss. "You know, you forgot something," Josh told him.

"What's that?" he asked.

"This," and Josh twisted Scott's nipple. Jumping into the shower before
Scott recovered and closing the door, Josh heard his gasp of surprise and
when Scott tried to get the door open, he stated, "Uh uh. None of that this
morning, honey. We've got a schedule."

Scott growled, toweled off and went into the bedroom as Josh showered. A
few minutes later, Josh finished and began toweling down. Hearing the buzz
of the electric razor from the bedroom, Josh went through his normal
morning routine of shaving and working his hair. When Scott walked by the
bathroom door a few moments later, Josh's heart fluttered a bit and he
grinned at the sight of the sexy guy posing in the doorway smirking at him.

Grinning at Josh, Scott moved into the kitchen and set the table as Josh
padded into the bedroom and got dressed, setting out cereal and milk,
making toast and pouring coffee as he usually did. Coming out in his suit,
Josh sat down across the table from Scott and they enjoyed their breakfast,
bantering back and forth with small talk. A few moments later, Scott shared
some concerns of his about Travis, the new mail clerk he worked with.

"I don't like him very much, Josh. He's always trying subtle stuff like
accidentally rubbing against me, holding handshakes a bit longer than they
should be, always making eye contact and other stuff of that nature. I know
he is gay, but I'm getting a little uncomfortable with his attention. You
think you could pass that to Geoff after the reviews today?" He asked.

Josh nodded in agreement, "I'll bring it up to him. I've noticed that too,
but I figure he's just lonely. I'll keep a closer eye on him and explain
all that to Geoff," Josh replied.

"Ok. I swear, if he keeps it up, I'll wind up flattening him," Scott
stated. Frowning, Josh finished his coffee. That statement of Scott's
startled him because Scott was one of the most non-violent people he
knew. Josh resolved to keep a closer eye on Travis and be ready to
intervene if needed.

They put the dishes in the sink and Scott reminded Josh, "Don't forget
we're taking separate cars today. I have to take mine to the auto shop for
repairs during lunch time, remember?"

"Oh, yeah, I nearly forgot about that. Since I'm parked outside today, I'll
take off first, love. See you at work," Josh grinned, giving Scott a kiss
and hug.

"Okay, babe. I'm going to put this stuff in the dishwasher and leave in a
minute. See you at work," he smiled.

Going out the front door and into his car, Josh thought of ways to finish a
project he had been slaving away at for months ^Ö a new strip
mall. Designing malls was not his favorite thing to do, but someone had to
do it. It was a living after all.

*****

After Scott filled and started the dishwasher, he put on his suit jacket
and descended the stairs to the garage. The two waiting men, alerted by the
sound of feet on the stairs, took positions on either side of the door. The
large man, his muscular frame straining his clothes, took his place next to
the door handle. The other man was a small wiry-built blonde man holding a
syringe at the ready.

When Scott entered the garage, the larger man grabbed him and clamped a
hand over Scott's mouth to prevent any loud noises. Scott struggled against
the unexpected attack and fought to get free, trying to swing and kick. The
smaller male jabbed the syringe into Scott's arm and unloaded its contents
into him. Scott's struggles quickly diminished as the powerful drug took
effect and he lost consciousness.

"Well, that was easier than I thought it would be, Jay," the smaller man
commented.

"Yeah it was, Doc. Better get his keys before I bundle him into the
backseat. We need to get moving before it gets too bright out there," Jay
instructed.

Doc fished the keys out of Scott's pocket and watched as Jay laid Scott
tenderly down on the backseat and scrambled onto the floorboards next to
Scott. Doc got in, buckled up and opened the garage door, exiting and
hitting the remote closer as the car cleared the bay. Driving off, he went
to a remote area of town to where a white cargo van was waiting positioned
behind a large warehouse building. Parking next to the van, Jay and Doc
transferred Scott after securely binding him with plastic handcuff
ties. They looked at each other in distaste as they removed a body bag from
the van and set it on the ground next to the passenger door of the car.

"I wish I knew why we were doing this," Doc muttered.

"I have no idea. The Boss has his reasons for this, as repulsive as it has
been," Jay answered.

Giving Jay a surgical mask and plastic gloves, Doc donned his own and
unzipped the bag. Inside was a `John Doe' corpse they had obtained from a
mortuary in town in exchange for a tidy sum. Lifting the body out of the
bag, they arranged it on the passenger side seat. Jay tossed the body bag
back into the van, retrieved a cell phone, and set the next part of the
plan in motion.

Grabbing some tools, Jay lifted the hood of the car, made a certain
adjustment to the engine, and shut the hood. "All ready on my end. Meet you
at the rendezvous?" He asked Doc.

"Yeah. Good luck," Doc answered with a frown.

Not answering, Jay got into the car and drove off. Doc checked on Scott,
taking his vitals and then driving off to another part of town to wait for
Jay to complete his task.

*****

At the office, Josh concentrated on his work, putting the final touches on
the strip mall design. Abruptly, he frowned, feeling something wasn't
right. He looked at the desk clock and wondered where Scott was. Getting
up, he walked to the water cooler and drank. Poking his head into the
mailroom on his way back, he spotted Travis. "Hey Travis, have you seen
Scott? He's over an hour and half late."

"No, I haven't, Josh. Didn't he ride with you?" Travis asked.

"No, but he couldn't have been more than 5 minutes behind me. His car has
to be dropped off at noon for repairs," Josh explained.

"Oh, that's right. He was complaining about the transmission the other
day," Travis answered.

"Yeah. Well, if you see him, please have him see me," Josh requested.

"Will do, Josh," Travis smiled in a manner that strongly reminded Josh of a
shark. Going back to his desk, Josh called home, then Scott's cell. When
neither got a response, he started to get worried. Standing up from his
desk, he started to make his way to his Dad's cubicle and saw his Dad,
Brad, Alex and Derek in Geoff's glassed-in office. Geoff saw Josh and said
something to Todd. Todd gave Josh a sad look and made his way out of the
office, walking up to Josh.

"Dad, what's wrong?" Josh asked.

Todd's face was red and he wouldn't meet Josh's eyes. "I think you and I
had better go to Geoff's office, son."

"Dad... what happened?"

"Let's just get to Geoff's office, okay?" Todd roughly said. Blinking at
his Dad's tone, Josh followed Todd into Geoff's office, noticing that Geoff
was closing the blinds. Joshua's brow creased at that ^Ö it was the first
time during his tenure in the office that they had been shut.

Brad's face was blotchy as if he'd been crying and Todd had tears flowing
down his cheeks. Geoff was looking down at the floor and Alex and Derek
were looking at Josh with tears in their eyes. Josh started to get an icy
feeling at his core and looked at his Dad. Todd turned away and Brad hugged
him tight, both of them openly crying.

"What's wrong? Someone please tell me what's going on!" Josh demanded.

Alex walked over to Josh, gave him a tight hug and spoke in a very gentle
tone, "Josh, I don't know how to tell you this. I'm sorry I have to bring
you this news, but... Scott died an hour ago in a car accident."

Josh stared for a moment in shock and then screamed, "NO!" He swung at Alex
out of fear and horror, wanting to deny something he had started to
suspect.

When Alex blocked Josh's swing, Brad and Todd grabbed Josh into a hug and
Josh let loose with a flood of tears. The three of them cried together,
holding each other for dear life as Alex and Derek joined in the hug.

After a few minutes, Derek gently told Josh, "The doctor at the hospital
told us he died instantly from the crash. He didn't suffer."

Holding on to Brad and his Dad, Josh sniffled and Alex gave him a
hanky. Blowing his nose, Josh allowed his Dad to guide him to a
chair. Sitting down in shock, trying to get his mind around the fact that
Scott had been taken from him, he numbly looked at everyone.

"I need to see him. Where is he at?" Josh asked.

Alex and Derek traded fast looks. Alex kneeled in front of Josh, "Josh, I
wouldn't advise that right now. The body isn't very presentable. Please,
trust me on that. You know I'd never lie to you."

"But... I NEED to see him!" Josh pleaded.

Alex sighed, "Josh, it's not a good idea. He doesn't look very good."

Todd looked into Josh's eyes, "Josh, if Alex says it's not a good idea,
then it's not. Right now... let us take care of things."

Submitting to Alex and his Dad's statements, Josh bowed his head. Looking
at his ring and rubbing it, he burst into tears again and both fathers
hugged him tight. Alex left the office trying to get his composure back
while Geoff offered a box of Kleenex and went out into the office area to
spread the word.

Derek kneeled in front of Josh and rested his hands on Josh's knees, "Josh,
I'm really sorry. If there's anything I can do, please, tell me or call
me. I'm here for you."

Josh embraced Derek and the two former lovers held the hug for a few
minutes. "Why did he have to die?" Josh sobbed.

"Only God knows, Josh," Derek replied. "I know it's scant comfort, but
there isn't any answer to something as senseless as this."

Josh looked at his and his lover's Dads and saw Brad and Todd hugging each
other tight for comfort, talking too quietly for Josh and Derek to hear.

"Derek, how did he die? I gotta know," Josh quietly asked.

Derek sighed and answered in a professional manner, "I've never lied to you
and I'm not going to start now. A dump truck was traveling 40 MPH and
broadsided Scott's car. The driver claims his brakes failed at a red
light. We're investigating that. From the position of the impact, which was
directly on the driver's side door, he was killed instantly. The car caught
fire afterwards. A complete investigation will be done, Josh. An autopsy
will be done to verify identification, but it seems rather conclusive given
the identification we found near the body, the wedding band on the body's
left ring finger and the fact it was his car. They took him to the Medical
Center where he was pronounced DOA."

Fighting to get his compose back, Josh murmured, "Thanks, Derek."

"I'm so sorry, Josh. I wish I could do something to help you," Derek gently
answered.

Everyone looked up as the door opened and Helen and Janice entered. Todd
and Brad reached for their wives and held them. Josh stumbled over to them
assisted by Derek and both families held each other in their grief. Derek
quietly left the room to give them some privacy. Together they mourned the
passing of their son, son-in-law and lover.
