Chapter 1: Goin' to the mall

A school like all other schools, a neighborhood like
all others, and a town like no other, all come together
here in this one huge event...summer vacation.

"It's time to get up, Alex!", Alex's mom shouted from
the kitchen, which was not that far from where Alex
was. He had slept in the living room, as he always
does during summer, it was 11:30 in the morning and Alex
woke up, and glanced at the living room mirror, ruffled
his hair and went into the kitchen.

"Hi ma", he walked towards the cupboard in the kitchen
and grabbed some cereal, then some milk from the fridge,
and sat down.

"Anyone up yet?", Alex asked, and he grabbed his hat and
put it on, like he always did, the hat was given to
him by a friend, and he is proud to wear it.

"Take off that hat Alex.", Alex's mother was busy
getting toast and coffee ready, but she hated the hat
that her son wears, it looks terrible in her eyes.

"I don't wanna, it's special to me. Are we gonna go to
the lake today?"

"I'm not sure, but weren't you going to the mall
today?", Alex's mom sat down and started at her
breakfast.

"Oh yeah! I forgot! Thanks ma, I need to get ready, can
you give me a ride? If not I'll walk...", Alex sat up and
put the plate next to the sink, went to the living
room, put the blankets and pillow away and went to sit at
the table before getting ready.

"I can't take you, so you got money?"

"No, I just wanna hang there for a while I'll be ok, I
better get in the shower."

Alex here is 15 years old, he just passed the 10th
grade at his local school and he feels weird being so
young in such a high grade. He is about 5'9" with
semi-short black hair and dark tan skin (probably
because he is Puerto Rican). Alex is a gay kid who
came out of the closet about 2 years before, which he
had been hiding since he was 10, he was made fun of and
ridiculed, but now he's kinda popular, which makes him
happy. He just recently broke up with his boyfriend,
mainly because he thought it was best for the time. He
was a very different person in 8th grade though, he
was incredibly suicidal and very mentally unstable, add
that to ADHD, and you got a problem. If it wasn't for a
friend in 9th grade, he wouldn't be alive today, he
loves this girl like a sister, and if he was straight
he'd definitely go out with her, but he's not, so
there. Anyways this girl basically saved his life and he
wants to make sure that she gets every thing that he
owes her for everything she did for him. He has 3
brothers, Bill, Danny, and Omar, all of which are
younger than Alex. They pick on him and Alex doesn't
mind, he doesn't like being in charge anyway, Bill is
in charge and that gets rid of a lot of responsibility.
Alex's ex-boyfriend is now a thing of the past and he
will hardly be mentioned. His name is Leon. Alex's
savior's name is Jessica. (The girl that we were
talking about earlier)

As Alex walked out of the shower, Duke, a little white
Chihuahua with a brown streak down it's back, the
dog's name is actually Duke 2, but we just called him
Duke, his first dog was run over 3 years earlier, he
shares a birthday with the new dog, that was given on
Christmas eve 3 years back. We still remember Duke 1;
he was a wonderful dog...that he was.

"Hey Duke, C'mon, we're gonna get me dressed to go to
the mall, Duke went towards Alex's mom, because the
dog did indeed belong to his mom.

"Fine, see if I take you to Disney World!", at that,
everyone in the room laughed.
