CHAPTER 8 JUST WHEN YOU THINK THINGS CAN'T GO WRONG

Cameron and I were upstairs in our rooms playing video games and He was
kicking my butt as usual. I knew that it was going to be a beautiful day
so I said "Hey why don't we go down to the park today for awhile. We
could ride our bikes it's not that far." "Sure JR that sounds like a
great idea. Besides I don't want to spend all day in the house." So we
put the video controllers down and turned off the game and down the
stairs we went. My Mom was in the kitchen doing the breakfast dishes and
she stopped and said;" Hey, where are you guy's off to today in such a
hurry?" "Well Mom, we are going to the park for awhile. It's such a nice
day we decided not to stay in the house all day." " Okay JR you and
Cameron make sure that you are careful on those bikes. And wear your
helmets." "Yes, Mom we will. Love you see you in a little bit." "Love
you guys too. Be careful."
 And off we headed for the park. We were riding for about 10 minutes and
we were headed through downtown and I saw one of my classmates lying on
the ground outside one of the stores. So Cameron and I pedaled over as
fast as we could. We jumped off our bikes. I looked down to see which
kid it was and it was Ryan McDonald. " Hey Ryan, Ryan are you okay?
Answer Me. Cameron quick go inside the store and tell them to call the
police." I looked down at Ryan and he wasn't moving but I could see that
he was breathing on his own. His face was all smashed and bleeding. The
owner of the store came running out. He had no idea that Ryan was lying
there he was in the backroom of the store. He said;" Oh my God what
happened to him?" " I said Mr. I have no idea. He is breathing though."
With that the police showed up and asked us all to step back. A minute
went by which felt like an hour and the Ambulance came screeching to a
halt. Three people came out of the Ambulance carrying all kinds of
equipment and a stretcher. I was standing just out of the way of the
police and emergency people and I could hear one of the ambulance people
say;" Oh no not another kid. I don't know why but this is the third kid
this week that got beat up." They were giving Ryan some oxygen and he
began to stir. " Son, can you hear me," one of the paramedics was
asking. Ryan sort of mumbled something but of course it didn't make any
sense. So they told him to just lie still. They started an IV in his arm
with this clear stuff in it and they shot some medicine into the bag I
guess for infections or something I really don't know. They put him on
the stretcher and took him away to the hospital.

 I looked at Cameron and he was almost white. I said;" What's wrong are
you sick?" "No JR but I know Ryan and he is gay. He told me that he was
going to come out this weekend to his parents and friends. I get the
feeling that his friends weren't really his friends at all." "You really
think his friends did this?" "Well if not I can think of a few guys that
hate people like us that are probably beating up all these kids." "Hey
maybe Cameron you should go and talk to the police." " JR do you want to
find me the same way we found Ryan, I would never go and tell the police
anything like that. I can't prove it. It's all hear say." " Okay Cameron
let's get out of here." "JR I don't think I am in the mood to go to the
park do you mind if we just go back home." "Of course not Cameron I
understand completely." So we got on our bikes and headed for home.

When we got home my Mom was fixing some stuff for dinner. She said;" Hey
what are you guy's doing home already?" " Mom, one of our friends from
school got beat up." "Who JR?" " His name is Ryan McDonald." "Oh my God
is he all right?"
" I don't think so he wasn't moving when I saw him but he was breathing.
They took him away in the Ambulance." "Oh dear, I hope he will be okay."
"Mom I know that he is gay like me and he was going to tell his friends
and family this weekend. I hope it wasn't one of his friends Mom. And I
doubt it was one of his family. Why would they leave him in the street."
"Cameron thinks he knows who might have done this. The lady from the
ambulance said that this was the third kid this week that they found
almost beaten to death." " Well you too better be extra careful for a
bit until they find out who is doing this." "We will Mom. We will be
extra careful." " We will Maam said Cameron." " Mom Cameron and I are
just going to hang around the house today is that ok?" "Sure dear
whatever you fella's want to do is all right by me. And remember if
there is going to be any fooling around sex wise you make sure you use a
condom."

So we headed upstairs to OUR Room. Cameron didn't seem to interested in
doing anything. So I said; "Hey you want to pick up where we left off
with that video game?" " No, not really JR. could you just please come

the grace of God go you or I." "Yes I guess your right Cameron." With

because of Ryan getting hurt I am crying because if that ever happened
to you I don't know what I would do. I don't ever want to lose you." "
Well, I don't ever want to lose you either." Now I started to cry. We
were sitting on the edge of my bed and just kind of climbed up the bed
by the pillows. " Could you just lay here and hold me JR." " Of course
Cameron I love holding you." I stopped crying but Cameron was still
whimpering. I took my hand and started to rub his golden hair. Usually
that's a turn on for me but right now I was just concerned with him
feeling better. "Oh JR that feels so nice you always know exactly what
to do to calm me down. Have I told you yet today how much I really love
you?" " Yes, you have. And I know how much you love me. Now listen just
lay right there for awhile." 'Are you leaving JR?" " No I am just
getting up to go lock the door. I don't want anyone to disturb us."
"Okay." With that I climbed back onto the bed and assumed my position
next to my baby. He had at least stopped crying now. I just lay there
and kept ruffling his hair. Before you know it he was out like a light.
With that I turned over on my stomach and decided to snooze out myself.

It seemed as though I was asleep for a long time but it was only about
an hour. Of course I woke up first. Sleepy head my baby was still
snoozing. I got out of bed as quietly as I could and headed to the

minutes just embraced in one another's arms. " Hey JR you feel like
finishing up those games that we started earlier today?" "Sure Cameron
anything you want to do is fine with me." So we headed back to the
PlayStation and the Video Games. We were playing the games for about an
hour when Cameron leaned over and gave me a kiss on the check. "Hey,

controller and said;" Well if that's the case." I leaned over to
Cameron and gave him a lip lock. We were practically attached by the

someday, but certainly not in our lifetime. I know this guy that was
diagnosed with a rare form of AIDS. He died a terrible death and I
don't want that to happen to me." " Okay, Cameron I am going to go
downstairs and asked my Mom to call on Monday." "Please I would
appreciate that. But of course now all weekend I will be nervous until
I hear the results of the test." "That's to be expected now come over
here and give me hug." "Okay. I am sorry if I got loud with you I am
just scared." " It's all right I understand completely." So we ended up
back on top of the bed just hugging and holding one another.


*******Writers note: Okay folks that's the end of Chapter 8. I know
that you will all have opinions on which way I should take this story
and I would appreciate any suggestions. This is the first time that I
have added AIDS into one of my stories. I know it is a very serious
disease and I kind of put that in the story this time just to bring
some awareness to everyone that reads it. I truly have had a dear
friend that died from AIDS and it wasn't a very pleasurable experience.
We weren't involved in a sexual relationship we were just good friends.
