The Lacrosse Player

Chap. IX

It's amazing how long a person can sit and think as long as they've got
another by their side. Trev and I sat on the deck for hours. I'm sure we
both knew there were activities for us to do, things for us to see... but
neither of us wanted to see them.. we were happy here, in each other's
company.

I heard the glass clink down on the deck. "Oh.." Trev stretched. "I can't
believe I drank that." My drink was still half full, ivory foam pasted to
the inside edges.

	"You want mine?" I asked.

"No... I'm driving tonight, remember, I'm the one with the car."

"Oh right.. but I've got a lisence too."

"So?" He licked his lips. "Maybe I'll let you drive it sometime tonight."

I smiled, and put my hands down his robe, rubbing his chest. The swinging
seat slowly rocked in the wind.

"Think we should get ready? He asked.

"Yeah.. I wonder what time it's getting to?"

Trev sat up and looked through the French doors. "I think the clock says 5
o'clock."

I leaned over the side on the seat and peered through the glass. The large
rope-trimmed clock was barely visible on the living room wall through the
ocean-reflecting doors. "I guess you're right." I slid my feet off the
seat, and his legs came with me, since they were intertwined with my own.
Once he had his footing, he stood up and pulled me with him.

	"Come on inside."

I walked in with him all the way up to the bedroom, my hands around his
waist. Upstairs, I put on my dry clothes, and handed my bathing suit to
Trev who, naked, went to the bathroom and hung them up on the shower bar. I
didn't hear him walking back, and as I was bending over to pick up my
shorts, he tackled me, and threw me onto the bed.

"We are covered in sand.. you know that?" He asked, rubbing my hair as he
lay on top of me.

"Yes...kinda hard to ignore that feeling."

	"Well...how about a shower?"

"No... sand in the drain hurts it... I've got a better idea." We both
trodded downstairs, stark naked. "Out on the front patio." I said. He
walked out on it, and looked into the woods in front of the house.

"Damn.. no shortage of nature here.....Whoa!!" Trev jumped as I sprayed
him with the garden hose.

I buckled over with laughter as he danced, his arms tightly folded across
his chest.

"You little.." He charged towards me, and I pointed the hose right at him,
spraying him in the face."

We both fell to the ground, and he wrestled the hose out of my hands.
"Shit, shit." I scurried up and backed against the sliding door as he
sprayed me. "Jesus! That is damn cold." I said as he sprayed my legs and
feet. He threw the hose to me. I aimed and sprayed it all off of his back
and legs, walking around him to get a good shot. To spray his front, I
reached from the back, pressing into him.

"What are you doing there, Evan?" He asked silently, grinning.

"Not a thing." I said, kissing his neck.

After we were rinsed, we both headed back upstairs and got dressed.

The long trek down the driveway seemed shorter than before, and our hike to
the nearest town was quick. we pulled into a restaurant just off from the
highway, near the outskirts of town. The parking lot was packed, which is
usually a signal for either good food, or a good basketball game.

The restaurant was crowded, and we squeezed our way through the thin
aisles, bending over the neck high aisle walls to avoid hitting trays full
of drinks and food. It was a typical college bar. The smell of grease
filled the air, and basketball games filled the screens of the small TVs
overhead. The bus boy leading us showed us to a tall, two person table that
was set next to the bar, which was in the center of the restaurant, and
overlooked the dining area.

"There you are, fellas." He said, setting a couple menus down on the table.

We nodded, and Trev began flipping through his.
"Eh..grease...grease..grease...."

I stopped him before he flipped to the next page. "Let yourself go for
once man." I chuckled.

"Oh..if you say so. Mmm...the monte cristo sounds just fine then."

I sat back. "Well we're not talking about suicide here." We both laughed,
and our waitress soon approached us.

"Well, gentlemen, what can I get for you this evening." Before I could say
anything, Trev spoke up.

"He and I will both have the monte cristo, and club soda."

The waitress giggled. "Well that was easy."

Trev rolled his eyes, and watched the basketball game on the television.
As half time neared and the game went to advertisements, the image of Peter
Jennings appeared on the screen.

"Now for the nightly news brief." He said, sifting through papers. "In a
landmark ruling, the Massachusetts high court ruled that gay marriages are
to legally begin on Monday. Many conservative groups have already scorned
the ruling, but many feel that once again, many American citizens now have
the rights they deserve."

Trev and I turned and looked at one another. "Holy shit." He said.

"Should they not be stopping the game completely to report on this?" I
asked rhetorically.

"This is amazing. Wow. Can you believe this?"

"I don't believe it, but I see it."

There was a small rise in the level of noise in the bar at this
announcment, and several scowls came our direction.

"I think that lady over there wants to say something." Trev said jokingly,
pointing at a mean faced woman.

	I smiled. "Should I?"

	Trev shrugged. "Go ahead."

"Ma'am, did you need something?" I asked, turning around and leaning back
in my chair.

Her mouth dropped a bit open, and stuttered as if to say something. "Mind
your own business." She said, going back to her food.

I turned around. Trev had a rather expectantly surprised look on his face.
"Yeah dude, what were you thinking... geeze." We both laughed.

I leaned back in my chair and watched Trev as he watched the Pistons gain a
20 point lead.

"You know what I was thinking earlier?" I said. He turned to me.

"What's that?" He leaned closer and ran his tongue across his lips.

"You look so much like an actor...what's his name... he's supposed to be on
GQ next month....Gyl.."

	"Gyllenhaal?"

"Yes! Jake Gyllenhaal... you do look sorta like him... but you know...
hotter."

"Whew...dude.... that's hard to do. But I've got to tell ya.. that's the
best compliment I've ever been given, I can tell you that."

	"You definitely deserve it."

The waitress soon approached us, carrying our food.

"Here you are fellas." She set our plates down in front of us. "Enjoy."

We both looked at them, and then looked at each other. The grease had
pooled around the sandwich. He shook his head and we both dove into them.

Minutes later, dinner was finished, and we sat wiping the grease from our
mouths. "Desert?" Trev asked.

"Heh.. what are you kidding... let's get out of here."

We attempted to get our waitress's attention, but she was attached to the
television, captivated by the last seconds of the Pistons game.

"You were from Michigan...do you like the Pistons?" Trev asked.

"It's hard not to root for a team from your own state... at least that's
the way I've always felt... I caught a lot of flak when I was a kid for
never taking sides on the Michigan-Michigan State rivalry."

"I see... well that's a good way to be.. fair and balanced for each."

	"Yeah." I chuckled. "Right."

As Detroit rolled off to victory, the waitress found her way to our table.
"So, anything else for you fellas tonight?"

	"We're set." Trev said.

She set our check down, then looked at Trev for a second, and leaned over
to me. "Uh.. does your friend.. you know... 'go' with anyone?"

A grin came across my face, and I leaned towards her ear. "Me, baby. Just
me."

She stood up quickly, quickly looked at both of us, and laughed. "Hah...
I'm sorry.. well you two have a nice night."

I put the cash in the dish, and we stood up.

"You sure you want to pay?" Trev asked, sliding his hand across my lower
back.

	"Of course...you're driving."

"Well... you did do that thing this afternoon."

I smiled. "Don't worry 'bout it."

We worked out way through the crowd and out through the front door, Trev's
arm still on my back.

"Shit. What for these mothers." Trev whispered, pointing out a group of
college guys, standing outside smoking.

"Slow down a bit.. I'm not scared of them." I whispered.

"Look at these fuckers." I heard one of them say.

"Gonna go get married, you fuckin' sissies?" Another yelled.

I looked over the group, they all scowled at us, except one in the back,
who was turned around, mashing as cigarette into the ground, as if he was
embarrased or even hurt by his friends' comments.

One of them took a step towards us, and we stopped and whipped towards them
suddenly, as if we were just waiting for one of them to make a move.

"Oh, trying to get tough, eh?" One of them nearest to us said.

Butterflies worked in my stomach, and my right foot dug into the grass,
giving me kick if they tried anything else.

"Hold on here, fellas!"	A voice of reason suddenly entered the scene. I
glanced to see who it was. A state trooper was quickly walking towards us.
"What's the problem?"

All of us looked at one another, and the trooper.

"Nothin'." One of the college kids said.

"Good...now the sign there says 'No Loitering'. Get the hell out."

They groaned and headed inside, and we continued out to the car. "God...
this is going to be quite the life."

"You don't say. Maybe we'll get this everyday... won't that be fun...
lucky us."

"Who knows... but it's not going to be something I'm going to go around and
wish for."

	"I hear that." Trev said.

We hopped in the car and drove off. As we sped down the road, Trev
suddenly turned off the highway onto a beach road. The Jeep dug into the
sand as it treaded across a dune.

	"What's up?" I asked him.

"There was a sign back there that said, 'beach trai'."

"So you figured, 'what the hell'?"

"Of course." He said, switching the Jeep into four-wheel drive.

"Sounds damn fine to me." I leaned out the window and rested my arm down
the side of the door. We reached the top of a ridge, and he parked and
turned the lights off. "Damn, look at the.." He grabbed my face, and kissed
me, shoving his tongue down my throat. I fell immediately into it, and
undid the button on his shirt, running my hands down his chest. "...stars."

"Hmm...they are beautiful." He replied, sending chills down my spine.

He motioned for me to come outside, and we both climbed up on the small
roof, letting our legs dangle over the back.

	"Beautiful night." I said.

"Like always... it seems to be."

"Storm clouds out to the west though." We watched as the western sky lit
up with a flash of lightning. Each flash painted a different picture in his
eyes, and I couldn't remove my own from his face. I felt so warm all of a
sudden... like the world had suddenly turned my way for good. "What do you
think about heading back to the house?" I asked, running my hand along the
brim of his shorts.

"Damn fine plan." He said. We hopped down. "Oh.. I almost forgot." I
cocked my head. "Did you want to drive?" A smile came across my face and I
ran around the front of the Jeep and grabbed the keys out of his hand.
Carefully, I backed our way out of the beach road. We headed back up the
highway towards the beach house, and realized that the sight of lightning in
the distance was just only one of many beautiful things I was blessed with
at the moment.
