Life After Mike      Chapter  7


Jerry was sound asleep when he woke up to a noise that he was not familiar
with as he laid in bed and listened, he heard a noise coming from the
kitchen, He got up and went into the hall and stood there and listened as
well, I was just an odd sound, he walked into the kitchen and saw that mom
was up and was using the blender to crush ice, Jerry said good morning and
mom jumped .

Mom turned around and said, Jerry you startled me, I forgot that you were
here, I am just crushing ice, I was going to take Paul a smoothie when I
went up later. She was looking at him rather oddly , when she said
shouldn't you be in school?

Jerry looked at the clock and saw that it was already 9:45 and he decided
that he would just stay home, he would go to the hospital with mom when she
went up to see Paul. He asked what time she was leaving and he wanted to
make sure that he was ready when she left. He said I will go take a shower
so I can be ready when you are ready to go. He went back into the bed room
and was going into the bathroom, he look at the shower and hanging on the
shower bar was an outfit that had a note pinned to it that said, Make sure
this gets ironed for the prom, Jerry opened it and was shocked to see a
beautiful light blue tux, he sat on the toilet and almost lost it, he sure
would have liked to see Paul in that, but with him being in the hospital,
just getting over surgery, with the prom only 3 weeks away, It would be
unlikely that Paul would be able to attend, Jerry had no intention of going
with out Paul.

Mom had already taken a shower and was now waiting for Jerry, she went and
knocked of the bedroom door and asked I Jerry was ready.

Jerry responded saying that he would be ready with in 5 minutes.

Mom said that she would be waiting in the living room for him.

Several minutes Jerry came down the hall and said that he was ready.

They both walked out to the van and got in, mom handed the large glass to
Jerry and asked if he would mind holding it till they got to the hospital.

Jerry said that it was fine and took it and set it in the cup holder on the
console.

When they got to the hospital Jerry asked mom if she wanted to give this to
Paul that he said he would carry it and then give it to her before they got
to the room, mom took the cup as they both entered the room, Mom walked
over and kissed Paul on the forehead, then said she was going out to talk
to the nurse, Jerry walked over and bent down and kissed Paul on the lips
and said I have really missed being with you.

Paul Said that he had talked to the doctor and that if everything looked
good in the morning that he would be able to come home, as long as i take
it easy and don't lift anything heavy, so I agreed and he will check me in
the morning and let me know.

Jerry was very happy and said that he was glad.

Paul looked at Jerry and said whats the matter I see the smile on your
face, I can also see the sorrow in your eyes, please tell me whats wrong,
Maybe I can help you get through whatever it is,

Jerry started to tell Paul about the conversation that he had had with his
parents yesterday, then he told him about what his mother said and how she
was bad mouthing both Mike and his mother, when she found out that I was
gay she left the room and told me that if I went over and stayed at your
house that I could not come back there again, my dad stood behind me and
was having a conversation with my mom and she said that if that was the way
that he felt that he could leave as well, He said that he would pack and be
out by the end of the week. He told Paul that he was worried about his dad,
he did not know where he would go and wanted to make sure he is ok.

Paul said call him from here and see how he is doing.

Jerry said I don't know where he is and he doesn't have a cell phone. Paul
what am I going to do?

Paul said well when I get home tomorrow we will go look for him, we will
check where he works, if he is not there then they should have a number
that they have to get in touch with him. Jerry please don't worry he will
be fine, we will find him tomorrow, I promise. Now for another problem,
what about the prom, I want to go , I don't want you to miss it, I was
planning on making love to you afterword's, but I think that is out of the
question, I will make you a promise though, I swear I will make it up to
you.

Jerry looked at Paul and said there is no need for you to do anything,
sometimes you just have no control over what happens, there will be other
times that we can do things together. the most important thing is that you
get better, and not worry about anything . Let me worry about the prom.

Mom came in and walked over to the side of the bed, she said that the nurse
was given instructions that if everything went well for the remainder of
the day and also through the night that the doctor will release you
tomorrow, he will be in in the morning and check and see hoe you are
healing and then let you know about coming home so take it easy tonight and
get plenty of rest. Then she said that she had to do some shopping and
wanted to know if Jerry wanted to go with her.

Jerry said hat he wanted to stay and keep Paul company.

Paul did not say a word, he just looked at Jerry and with his eyes and a
face motion, let Jerry know that he should go with mom and help her with
the shopping, then he said well you two go get the shopping done and I will
see you in the morning when you come to pick me up.

Mom bent over the side of the bed and kissed Paul on the forehead and said
that she would see him in the morning.

Paul hugged her and said good bye and I will see you later, I love you mom.

Jerry leaned over and kissed Paul on the lips, Paul opened him mouth so
that they could exchange a little tongue action, then he pulled Jerry in
close and hugged him, he whispered in his ear, that tomorrow he would make
sure that Jerry was taken care of, as Jerry straightened up , Paul smiled
and winked at him.

Mom and Jerry said good bye and headed out the door, they went out to the
van and got in, mom said that she need to do some grocery shopping as she
had not done any in almost a week, when they got to the store they both
went in and by the time they came out they had spent nearly $225.00.

Jerry said Mom you could have left something for the other shoppers, they
both started to laugh as they loaded everything into the van. When they got
home they unloaded the van and put all the groceries away. Jerry said he
was going to go into the bedroom and cleanup the room a bit. He looked at
mom and said, that he was planning to take a trip out to the cemetery
tomorrow and want to know if she wanted to go.

Mom said that she was hoping that he or Paul would be going soon, she
wanted to go but was not looking forward to going by herself and that she
would be more than happy to go with him.

Jerry said that he was going to ask Paul if wanted to go as well.

Mom said why don't we all go tomorrow, after we pick up Paul, we can stop
and have lunch, my treat, then we can stop and get some flowers and then go
to the cemetery, I think that would be a good thing and we all miss Mike so
much that it will be good for us all. She told Jerry that dinner would be
ready about 5:30 or so.

Jerry said he had some things that he needed to do and would be gone for a
could hours, if he was not back for dinner just leave it out he would when
he got back and that he was clean up the kitchen then. he kissed mom on the
cheek and said that he would see her later. He left the house and was
headed to his dad's work to talk to him, he drove up and went inside and
asked one of the workers if they knew were Mr. Murray was? he was told that
he would have to go to the office and get the information that he
requested. Jerry went to the office and as he went in he saw that the man
in the office was one of his baseball teams players father, He said I and
asked if his dad was here today. He was told that his dad had taken the day
off to try and find an apartment. He did say that since he would not have a
phone that he was going to pick up a cell phone and that he would call as
soon as it was activated and give him the number.

Just then the phone rang and the office manager answered the phone and
wrote something down and then said to hold on and handed to phone to Jerry,
Jerry's dad was surprised to hear his son's voice and then after a brief
conversation they had agreed to meet in about 30 minutes for lunch. Jerry
handed to phone back to him and said thanks and he turned and left.

Mr. Murray was not at all happy with the fact that Jerry had not gone to
school. He was going to let him know in no way was he happy about it and
that this had not better become a habit.

On the way to meet his father, Jerry stopped at the school and told the
guidance counselor that he had over slept and was here to pick up his work
for the day, and then was going to meet his father afterward. they gave him
his assignments for the day and he said he was going to the hospital
tomorrow but would be back the following day and he would have a note to
hand in. He left the school and was on his way to meet his dad.

Mom was busy around the house and taking it easy not to over do anything,
dinner was coming along nicely and she was about to put it in the oven and
then go rest for a little.

Jerry pulled up and parked at the A&W drive in, and got out of his car and
walked over and sat down by his dad.

Mr. Murray began with a many whys and you can't miss school.

After about 15 minutes Jerry said OK dad I understand, then he let him know
that he would not be in school tomorrow and explained why. his dad was not
happy, but approved. Jerry looked at him and said dad I need to ask you a
question, and to me it is very important, He continued by saying that he
loved Paul and wanted to spend the rest of his life with him. as it looked
like they would not be able to attend the prom, Jerry wanted to get him
something to show how much he cared.

Mr. Murray smiled and said you really do love this boy don't you?

Jerry said yes dad with all my heart.

Mr. Murray said well I think that a nice ring, not gaudy but just a little
something , like a gold band, with his name engraved inside and you get a
matching one for yourself, I think that that should show the young man just
how much you care.

Jerry said thanks dad, I knew that you would know what to do, then he asked
his dad for the cell number and entered it into his contacts, he stood up
along with his dad, he hugged him and told him thanks again and followed by
I love you dad. as he left the drive in he was feeling much better, he
headed over to the jeweler's and when he got there he went inside and told
the young woman what he was looking for and quietly told her who it was
for.

She said please come over this way, she showed him several sets of rings
and he saw the one that he really like and said that he wanted it engraved
as well, the young woman said hat it would not be a problem and asked when
he wanted to pick them up.  Jerry said that he would pay for them now and
pick them up two weeks from today.

After taking care of the ring thing, Jerry was ready to head back home. He
looked at his watch and saw that it was nearly 6:00. He hurried home and as
he came into the house, mom said well that was perfect timing, I was just
taking the food out of the oven, Jerry said I will set the table. is there
anything else I can do to help. Mom said no just sit and I hope you have a
good appetite

They both sat down to eat and after dinner Jerry told mom to go and relax
and that he would clean up the kitchen and do the dishes. when he was done
he went into the living room and sat and watched TV with mom.

The evening passed quickly and before long it was time to get ready for
bed. Jerry got up and walked over and kissed mom on the cheek and said good
night and then he headed down the hall to his room.He got undressed and got
into bed and fell asleep eight away.
