Life Is Not Always Kind

Prologue

Lance Woodson is 17 years of age, he has hazel eyes and light brown
straight hair that is cut very short. He stands about 5 feet 8 inches high
and weighs about 145 pounds sopping wet. He is in his third year of high
school and has a very good grade point average of 3.7. He has the
reputation of being the type of person that is always willing to help
anyone that is in need. Because of his kind and willing nature he is always
being called names from the other students that do not understand him. At
the beginning of the school year he had the opportunity of running into a
few new students, one of these students caught his eye and made his heart
skip a beat. As you have discovered Lance is in the closet and no one know
hissecret. But this young man will go on to become a very important part of
Lance's life.

Tanner Young is 18 years of age, he has sky blue eyes and jet black hair
the is cut in what people call a young mans cut. He stands about 6 foot3
inches tall and weighs in at about 165 pounds.  He has just moved into the
neighborhood from a small town is Indiana called Michigan City.  He looks
to be great shape along with the idea that he is a sports fanatic. He also
seems to be a very quite and shy person and try's to keep to himself.
Tanner is starting his senior year. He is also not a very good student but
is carrying 2.9 grade point average. Tanner is the kind ofstudent that is
capable of good grades but has trouble trying to concentrate. Tanner is not
aware of it now but Lance will become a very importantpart of Tanner's
life.



Chapter 1

Tanner is on his way to the principal's office to pick up his schedule for
the year. When he arrives he is asked to have a seat and the principal will
be right with him.

Lance who is in the principal's office at the present time is going over a
list of students that have requested a possible student aide that would be
willing to assist them in their studies. The principal has the school
records of students that he believes will need some help. He is trying
toget Lance to accept Tanner as his student project. Lance finally agrees
and he is told to wait outside for several minutes.

Tanner is sitting outside the Principal's office when the door opens and
Lance comes out and sits next to him. The principal opens the door and says
" Good morning Mr. Young won't you please come in.

Lance is almost dumb founded, the boy that sent his heart soaring is the
boy the principal wants him to help with his studies. Lance has justfallen
in love for the second time today. He makes a promise to himself that is
going to do everything he can to assure Tanner will graduateat the top of
his class.

Meanwhile, back in the principal's office Tanner is not thrilled with this
student aide program that the principal is telling him about, but it
lookslike he is going to have very little say in the matter. The principal
informs him that the young man that has been assigned to help him is a
verygood student and a wonderful person. Tanner agrees, but would like to
see a sort of trial period just in case it does not work out he will be
ableto get out of the program. The principal says that that makes sense and
agrees, they shake and the principal asks Tanner to sit down and thathe
will return shortly. Several minutes pass and the door opens and the
principal walks in followed by a good looking student that he saysTanner I
would like you to meet Lance he will be your student adviser. Tanner stands
and he and Lance shake hands and they head off toclass.

Lance looks at his watch and sees that there is only about 13 minutes left
of first period. He says lets head to the lunchroom and sit and get to know
each other a little. they head off the lunchroom and go in and start to
talk about things.  .

Lance looks at his watch and says we better head to second period, we don't
want to be late on the first day.

Tanner says are you in the same class that I am.

Lance says that his schedule was changed so that he would be able to work
along side his and would be familiar with homework and any other
assignments that he may have.

The remainder of the day goes well. they both seem to be getting along
together and the teachers are very helpful as far as they can be.

As the final bell rings the boys head to the lockers. Lance says to Tanner
would you like to stay here and we can work together in the library.Tanner
says well I was hoping to get back home and help my dad unpack. Lance
smiles and says well I have nothing going on this eveninghow about I go
with you and we can both give your dad a hand unpacking. Tanner looks at
Lance with a puzzled look on his face and asks why would you do that. Lance
smile and says because that is what friends do for their friends. Tanner
looks at lance and for the first time todayLance sees what Tanner looks
like when he is happy.

They arrive at Tanner's house and see that Tanner's father is busy
unpacking, Tanner says " hi dad " I want you to meet my friend Lance, he
isgoing to help my with my studies. Lance extends his hand and says " good
evening sir it is good to meet you. "  The boys put their books downand
start to help unpack. The time passes quickly and before you know it is
getting to be near 9:30. Lance says that he has to go before his momstarts
to worry about him. He picks up his books shakes hands with both Tanner and
his dad, says good night and heads off for home. On the way home Lance is
as happy as can be. he has made a new friend and also met someone that
makes him feel alive inside. as he nears his homehe is just as happy that
he is singing. He opens the door and goes inside to see his mother asleep
on the sofa. He turns off the TV and gently wakes his mom and says " mom
why don't you go to bed. I will lock up and clean what ever needs to be
cleaned. He says " good night momI love you.
