Chapter 33

Sometimes, Zach wondered if he might be screwed-up in the head.

Loving Shaun, the way he did, was it right that he still lusted after
Shaun's dad, of all people? Of course, he'd had the hots for Mr. Carter
before he even knew who Shaun was. But, even so, would a normal guy be
like that? And, what about how seeing Liam in the nude had turned him on?
Liam WAS damn hot, though. Were all guys Zach's age like him, when they
saw hot bodies ... even when they already loved someone else? And while he
was on the subject of love, though Zach truly loved Shaun, he was afraid he
might have hurt him, when his hormones had taken over, and he'd entered him
so roughly. Fuck, it seemed that he cared for himself and HIS feelings,
more than he did for Shaun's. Was it right that he should feel that way?

Lying awake in bed, after jacking off on Sunday night, Zach pondered those
questions, and others like them. Normally, he didn't worry about stuff
like that, but he couldn't go to sleep, no matter how hard he tried. While
he couldn't find anything wrong with having a crush on Mr. C ... or Liam,
for that matter ... unless those things were causing a problem with Shaun
... and he didn't think they were ... he DID need to apologize to Shaun for
the way he'd nearly raped him. Sure, Shaun had SAID he was okay with
everything, but, upon reflection, Zach wondered if he was telling the
truth. He knew Shaun sometimes kept his true feelings bottled up inside.
And he had seen the shock, and maybe even some pain, on Shaun's face.

Zach sighed inwardly, while adding layer upon layer to his concerns over
Shaun ... the way people with lots of responsibilities sometime do, when
they lie awake at night worrying. In Zach's suddenly distorted view, Shaun
was on the verge of leaving him.

Fuck!

Falling for Shaun had been the best thing that had ever happened to him.
If, by his thoughtlessness, he drove Shaun away, Zach didn't think he would
be able to live with himself. Restlessly, he rolled from his back to his
stomach. He tossed and turned until sometime after one, when finally
overcome by his need for sleep, his mind shut down and he drifted off.

Beep, beep; beep, beep; beep, beep; beep, beep... The alarm prodded
gently, at first, but quickly became much more urgent in its demands!

Groggily, Liam groped for the snooze bar. "Fuckin' morning," he groaned.
Fumbling with the clock, he turned off the alarm. Normally, he would have
gone right back to sleep, but he remembered how hard it had been snowing
when they went to bed. Suddenly, he was as wide-awake as a 22 year old guy
can be at 5:30 in the morning!

Jeremy moaned, as Liam slipped from under the covers and hurried to the
window at the foot of the bed ... the one with a view of the street.

Though the sun wouldn't rise for almost two hours, the streetlight told the
tale: it HAD snowed ... and a LOT, from what Liam could tell. The branches
on the forty foot pine, outside the window, were weighed down by six or
eight inches of the stuff, and tiny flakes were still falling at a good
clip! The street appeared to have been plowed, but had turned white again.

Liam clicked on the room light, before leaning over his lover. He planted
a sweet kiss on Jeremy's lips. Then, in a low, but urgent, voice, he
implored, "Jem! Wake up!"

"Wha..." Jeremy tried to open his eyes, but they rebelled. Like Liam, he
needed more sleep!

Liam pulled back the covers to reveal Jeremy's amazing, naked body. His
seven inches were erect and oh so inviting! Without a second thought,
Liam's right hand encircled the shaft, and he began to pump it, very hard
and very fast, like there would be no tomorrow. In no time at all, Jeremy
was both awake and shooting.

Proud of his handiwork, Liam kissed his lover again. "Jem, you need to
check if you'll have school today, because we got quite a bit of snow."

Jeremy rubbed the sleep from his eyes.

"How much?"

"I don't know, for sure," Liam chuckled, licking the cum from his hand.
"But there's at least half a foot in that tree outside the window."

"Shit! Can you hand me my phone, Liam? I'll check the school website, and
see what it has to say." Jeremy smiled, while reaching for a Kleenex to
wipe the mess off of his belly. "Oh ... and thanks for waking me up the
way you did. If a guy has to wake up at this ungodly hour, I can't think
of a better way."

"I'm glad I could help out!" Liam chortled, while handing the smart phone
to Jeremy ... who sat up. "I'll start the coffee."

"Thanks!"

Before heading down the hall to put on the coffee, Liam clicked on the gas
furnace, for the first time that season. With a strong `whoosh!' the flame
ignited. By the time Liam started back towards the bedroom, hot air was
blowing from the ceiling vents, and Jeremy had called-up the school
district website. While a couple of outlying schools had delayed their
starting times by an hour, Cherry Hill would be running per the usual
schedule.

"Liam, it looks like you'll be taking Shaun and me to school this morning,"
Jeremy said. He was removing the boot from his foot, as Liam stepped into
the room. "I guess you'd better help me into the shower, if you don't
mind."

On Sunday morning, the men had tried showering together ... something they
had often done in the past. But, since Jeremy could only stand on one
foot, it made switching places to rinse off very awkward. Fooling around
with each other in the shower wasn't as much fun as it should have been,
either. Damn his broken foot!

"Sure, Jem. Do you think I ought to call Shaun? He's not up, yet."

"We can let him sleep for a few more minutes." Jeremy reached for his
crutches, which were leaning against the wall at the head of the bed.
"I'll call him after I get out of the shower, if he's not already up by
then."

Liam nodded, while his lover stood. Jeremy carefully crutched himself into
the small room that held the bathtub and toilet, taking care not to bang
his broken foot against anything. Awkwardly, Liam helped him step over the
side of the tub, before turning on the water. Leaving the door open ... so
he could keep an eye on Jeremy ... Liam stepped in front of the large
vanity, where he wet and lathered his face, and began to shave. While his
beard was neither as coarse nor thick as Jeremy's, he still had a very
prominent, dark shadow from the weekend's stubble.

After shaving, Liam asked Jeremy how he was doing, and Jeremy said it was
taking a long time, but, otherwise, everything was going well. Liam
decided to click on the TV, to hear how much snow had fallen throughout the
region, and how much more was expected. He ambled into the living room and
settled back onto the sofa, tucking his left foot under his naked ass. As
the screen came to life, the early morning news anchors and the weatherman
were discussing a record snowfall for the date: 11 inches at DIA.
Accumulations throughout the Front Range varied from as little as six
inches to over a foot. While there was nothing TOO out of the ordinary
about the amount, it was WET snow, something very unusual for Colorado.
Since it had fallen while the deciduous trees were still in leaf with their
fall color, many branches had fallen overnight, causing major problems. To
possibly make matters worse, up to an additional six inches of snow was
predicted through noon on Monday!

Liam shook his head. He was getting initiated to Colorado winter big time
... and it was only October!

"Liam, do you mind giving me another hand?"

Obviously, Jeremy had finished his shower.

Liam hopped off of the couch, and, as he stepped into the bathroom, Jeremy
continued, "There's got to be a better way, than me asking for your help
all the time!"

"We'll figure it out," Liam replied.

"Yeah, I know we will. But for your sake, Liam, I sure hope it's sooner
rather than later!" Hanging his wet towel on the towel bar, Jeremy added,
"I just wish I could put some weight on this foot. It doesn't hurt, or
anything."

As they were talking, somewhere outside, a snow blower began to buzz.

Jeremy draped his right arm around Liam's shoulder. And, putting all of
his weight on Liam, he stepped out of the tub with his left foot. Jeremy
sadly shook his head, while trading Liam's naked body for the cold
crutches. It wasn't the kind of trade he wanted to make very often, that
was for damn sure!

While Liam stepped into the shower, Jeremy carefully crutched to the
walk-in closet ... his injured foot seemed SO exposed, without the
protection of the boot. He grabbed the first pair of dress jeans and
coordinating shirt that came to hand. Leaning over, he grasped his left
hiking boot, before hobbling into the bedroom. Dropping the boot on the
floor and laying the clothes on the bed, Jeremy opened the top drawer of
the tall chest and took out a pair of boxers and the first pair of socks
that came to hand. He sat on the bed and carefully dressed his bottom
half, before wrapping the boot around his right foot. Finally, he tied the
hiking boot on his left foot.

When he stood, to call Shaun, Jeremy inadvertently put a tiny bit of weight
on the heel of his right foot. Amazingly, and thankfully, there was no
pain at all! He noted that the way the boot was designed, the wearer
couldn't put weight on the front two thirds of his foot, even if he wanted
to.

`Damn!' Jeremy thought, daring to put a bit more weight on the heel. He
tried more weight with the same pleasant result. However, even though
there had been no pain, he held his foot off the floor, as he thumped to
Shaun's bedroom. Standing in the doorway, he clicked on the ceiling light.

"Son!" he called, in a fairly loud voice. "Time to get up!"

Half-awake, Shaun moaned and rolled onto his side, turning his back to his
father.

"Up and at `em, Shaun!" Jeremy responded, hobbling to the side of the bed.
"A lot of snow fell last night. And you've got to get moving, because
we've got school today! Liam still has to drive himself to work, after he
drops us off."

Snow ... a LOT of snow ... suddenly, Shaun was wide-awake!

"How much?" Shaun asked, rolling onto his back, so he could look his father
in the face.

"Liam says six or eight inches," Jeremy answered. "So you need to get
ready, because we'll be leaving for school right away."

Since he and Zach had become an item, Shaun was usually less of a problem
to get moving on school mornings. But the fact of the first snowfall of
the season only served to make him move all the more quickly. In no time,
he was out of the bed and looking out the window. Similar in height and
girth to the large pine tree outside the master bedroom window, the
evergreen outside Shaun's window drooped mightily under the weight of the
heavy snow.

Shaun smiled broadly. The only way things could have been better, was if
school had been called off. Still, one word summed-up his feelings: "WOW!"

Liam, who had just finished lathering his body, and was about to rinse-off,
was anything BUT happy. When he made the move to Colorado, he knew ... in
the back of his mind, anyway ... the winters would be snowy. But he'd
never driven on the white stuff, and though he hated to admit it, the
thought of trying to scared him shitless! While he could probably take a
bus from Longmont to Boulder and back, he didn't like that idea. Since he
hailed from Southern California ... where cars are THE travel mode of
choice ... he'd never been much of a fan of public transportation. Anyway,
he still had to get Jeremy and Shaun to school.

`How would his car do on the snow?' he wondered, while rinsing the soap
from under his arms. `If he could even get out of the parking lot, without
having an accident!'

Liam's hands travelled down his hard body, helping the spray from the
low-flow showerhead remove the suds. When he reached his limp dick, he
lifted it, to rinse the soap from the underside, but didn't come close to
jacking off ... he just wasn't in the mood. He rinsed his balls, legs, and
ass, before stepping from the shower. Using the same towel as Jeremy, Liam
quickly dried off.

As he turned off the light, and stepped into the rest of the bathroom, Liam
noticed Jeremy, sitting fully dressed on the edge of the bed. He looked SO
handsome, in a white, long-sleeve, Oxford cloth shirt ... open at the neck
... and dressy jeans. A newspaper lay open at his side, and he held a
steaming mug of coffee.

"Did you have a hard time getting Shaun up?" Liam asked.

Jeremy chuckled. "Not after he heard how much snow we got." He lifted the
mug to his lips and took a sip. "He even brought me the paper and coffee!"

Liam tried to smile, as he joined Jeremy on the bed.

"Fuck, I sure wish I could feel the same way about the snow. Jem, I've
never driven on the stuff, and it scares me!"

"So THAT'S what's been bothering you, Liam." Jeremy curled his arm around
Liam's bare shoulders. "I'm an old pro at it, so I can give you a few
pointers."

"Thanks!" Liam breathed more than just a sigh of relief; it was as if a
weight had been lifted from his shoulders. "Well, I'd better get dressed,
too." Before standing, however, he gave Jeremy a powerful kiss.

Less than half an hour later, the three of them were bundled into winter
coats, and were preparing to leave the apartment. While the sun still
hadn't risen, lights in the breezeway and over the two flights of stairs,
let Jeremy know that the maintenance people hadn't yet cleared away the
snow that had blown in. An inch or two of the white stuff covered the
wooden floor and stone aggregate stairs.

"Nothing's ever easy on these things." Chuckling sadly, Jeremy lifted one
of the crutches and shook his head. "Shaun, would you please get the
broom, and sweep off the stairs for me?"

"Sure, Dad."

Moments later, with Shaun in the lead and Liam bringing up the rear, Jeremy
carefully shuffled from the apartment. What a first day outside the
apartment on crutches! Fortunately, Shaun did a pretty good job of
cleaning a path for his dad.

After locking the apartment, Liam asked, "How can I help you, Jem?"

"I'm not sure," Jeremy replied tersely, while glancing at the top flight of
15 stairs. "I mean ... I don't know what's going to be the best way to
tackle these." He grabbed hold of the railing with his right hand, while
handing the crutches to Liam. "I think I'm going to try putting just a
little weight on the foot."

"Are you sure about that?" Liam was more than a little concerned.

Jeremy smiled. "I tried it in the bedroom, and the foot felt okay. But,
Liam, if it hurts ... even a little bit ... I'll stop." With all of his
weight, he leaned on the sturdy metal railing, while taking the first
downward step with his left foot.

Liam held his breath, as Jeremy brought his right foot down, beside his
left.

"How was it?" he asked.

"So far, so good!" Jeremy beamed, though he was still concerned. He had
29 more stairs to go.

On the good-sized landing, at the base of the first flight, Liam handed
Jeremy the crutches. More confident (which wasn't saying much) than he'd
been since he began using them, Jeremy crutched across the mostly-cleared
wooden planks, before tackling the second flight of stairs in the same way
as the first. The bottom three stairs, and the concrete walk just in front
of them, were icy from melted snow that had dripped from the eave of the
building and refrozen.

"Um, Liam ... I think I WILL need your help over this stuff."

"Sure, Jem."

"Liam, should I clean off your car?" Shaun asked. He was wearing Zach's
hoodie under a puffy jacket, and tiny snowflakes repeatedly pelted the
hood.

Before Liam could answer, Jeremy replied, "I think we'll be taking the
Subaru today." Carefully, he stepped onto the first icy step. He turned
his face to Liam. "Your car is really cool, Liam; but the old Subaru is
great on the snow." He laughed. "And heck, if you wreck it, we won't be
out much!"

Shaun laughed, before trotting over the recently cleared sidewalk, toward
the family wagon. Right away, he began to sweep off the windows.

"That's not doing much to build up my confidence, Jem!" Liam smiled wanly.
Although he didn't know anything about driving on snow, after he'd
graduated from college, and knew he would be moving to Colorado, one of the
reasons he had bought the Volvo was because it had front wheel drive. An
older friend told him he'd heard front wheel drive was supposed to be good
on the snow. But, if Jeremy said the Subaru would be even better, he
wasn't going to disagree with him.

After making it over the icy stretch, Jeremy took the crutches from Liam
and VERY slowly made his way down the sidewalk. Though the snow had
probably been cleared from the walk less than half an hour earlier, tiny
snowflakes were falling hard, and the walk was covered with the white
powder. By the time they reached the car, Shaun had swept most of the snow
from the windows and hood, but around a foot of the stuff was piled on the
roof. Apparently, quite a bit of the snow had melted ... early on, when it
hit the ground ... but the metal car body had cooled to the freezing point
right away, because the yard seemed to have snow at about half the depth of
that on the car roof.

"Fuck ... we DID get some snow." Liam took out his phone and snapped a
quick pic of the car roof. "My family and friends back in California will
NEVER believe this! My first real snowstorm."

"Well, I can safely say it won't be your last," Jeremy replied, shuffling
to the passenger side of the car. Stopping beside the door, he took out
his car keys and unlocked his door, before handing them to Liam. "Maybe
you can help me with these crutches, Liam."

"Sure," Liam replied, taking the crutches from Jeremy and sliding them over
the back seat and into the cargo area.

A minute or two later, both men were seated in the car. While Shaun
scraped the built-up ice from the windshield, Liam started the car.

"So, you were gonna give me some tips for driving in this stuff..."

"Yep." Jeremy smiled. Always the teacher, he started with the basics.
"The first and most important thing ... and, Liam, this takes priority over
everything else ... is to DRIVE SLOWLY! Keep at least three or four times
as much space between you and the car ahead of you, as you normally would."

Liam was absorbing every word.

"Pretend there are rotten eggs under both the accelerator and brake pedals,
and the last thing in the world you want to do is break them! Accelerate
and brake SLOWLY. Take your foot off the gas pedal at least half a block
before you want to stop, and if the wheels start to slide when you gently
apply the brakes, don't panic. This old car doesn't have antilock brakes,
so calmly release them and pump the brake pedal until you stop. Remember
... keep lots of space between you and the car in front of you, and don't
drive too fast! Drivers are a lot more courteous when it snows, but even
people who have lived here all their lives, sometimes make mistakes
... especially on the first snowfall. So you need to be ready for the
unexpected."

Liam nodded.

"Hey, you might even find that you ENJOY driving on the snow," Jeremy
added. "I know I do!"

Liam tried to smile, but still wasn't convinced. "But what if I start to
skid?"

Jeremy leaned across the seat and kissed his lover. "Don't worry so much."
He smiled. "If you're careful ... the way I've told you to be ... that
shouldn't be a problem. But, if you do find yourself in a skid, gently
steer the car INTO it. Whatever you do, don't overcorrect; that's a sure
way to end up in the ditch. What was the first rule, again, Liam?"

"Take it slow and steady."

Though Jeremy knew that the unpredictable was much more likely to happen on
snowy roads, and Liam might end up in an accident, no matter how he tried
to avoid it, he replied, "You're going to do just fine!"

Kicking the snow off his Nikes, Shaun opened the passenger side back door,
interrupting his dad.

"Hey ... just look at it as a new adventure, Liam!"
