Subject: Chapter 17 of Obsession

`The hunter becomes the hunted,' Bill thought to himself.
`They've made it a lot easier on me. It's like they want to
help me get Brian alone. Whatever. If they want to help, who
am I to turn down any help I can get? All I need to do is
one simple thing. And I know damn well I can do it.'

Bill had found an observation point well out of sight of the
house where he could observe anyone coming and going. He was
parked next to a house that was for sell a block away and no
one paid any attention to him when they came out of their
houses Bill was very observant. There was no way he was
going to make a mistake now when he was so close to his
goal.

The garage door opened at his target house and he saw a
truck backing out. So Brian's older brother had purchased a
new vehicle or at least had rented one. He used binoculars
to see that it didn't have a tag yet, so he knew it was a
new purchase and not a rental. That was better. Maybe he
could give it the same treatment that he gave the Cobra. But
not in the same parking lot. That would be way too risky.

When the truck backed out, he could see three people in the
truck. That had to be Brian, his slut boyfriend, and his
older brother. That left the Detective inside.

Bill decided not to tail the truck. That wasn't part of the
plan anymore. He had more important business. So he stayed
where he was and kept watch on the house. It was boring, but
he had a big smile on his face. He knew that the final scene
was close, and he couldn't wait.

                        ***************

"This is Luke."

"Hi Luke," Justyn said.

"Don't hi me, you son of a bitch. I can't believe you got me
involved in this," Luke exclaimed.

"You're the best computer guy I know. Maybe the best in
Atlanta. Maybe the best in the United States. Maybe.."

"Save it. You owe me big time for this. I found what you
were looking for. The kid saved everything. He even scanned
letters he got from your suspect. It really was easy to find
the hidden folder. I have pictures of the kid he was
pretending to be, which are pretty gross, if you ask me. E-
mails, chats, the works. I even have the address on Long
Island in New York where they sent each other mail," Luke
said.

"NO SHIT!!! That's wonderful. You did an awesome job,"
Justyn said.

"I don't want thanks. I want dinner on you. I'm going out
with my girl friend tonight to McKinnen's and we're going
to get the two biggest lobsters they have. And I'm sending
you the bill," Luke answered.

"No problem. I'll just expense it. Thanks buddy. I'll also
toss in a few whoppers with cheese," Justyn said, laughing.

"Just leave me out of your cases from now on, Ok?" Luke
asked.

"A man like me has to use his best resources the best way he
can. You know that. And you are the BEST!!! You know what
I'm going to ask you next, don't you?" Justyn giggled.

"Yeah, I know. Where the fuck is Yaphank? Jesus, New York
sure has some strange names. I've already got my computer
program searching for the face I got off the pictures," Luke
answered.

"Man, thanks. You're the best. Tell me the truth. You'll do
anything to help nail this bastard just as much as I will,
right?" Justyn asked.

Luke didn't say anything for a moment. "Yeah, you're right.
You take advantage of me and I do resent that. But I do like
helping when I can. And this guy... wait, I got a hit. A
Jimmy Delgreco. Killed in a drive by shooting. Lived in
Yaphank. It has to be the same kid."

"I'll be right there," Justyn said as he hung up.

                        **************

Bill saw the other garage door open and Justyn's Mustang
back out and then race off in the opposite direction. He
also saw that Justyn had closed the garage door from inside
his car, without getting out.

`So the bastard Detective is also fucking Brian. I'm sure
his brother is doing the same thing. I'm going to make his
death really slow and painful. And all I have to do is wait
a few short days,' Bill thought.

He waited until Justyn was long gone before he put up his
listening device and cranked up his car to follow him. He
knew where Justyn was going. He knew everything. He was
totally in charge.

                        ***************

Justyn parked as quickly as he could and ran into Police
headquarters. He didn't bother to park where his car could
easily be watched by the constant traffic of people coming
and going into the station. He was in a hurry. So he took
the first space available. It was as far away from any kind
of security as possible. It was also perfect for what Bill
had in mind.

                        ****************

Bill drove leisurely to the Police station. He had nothing
to worry about. If anyone was watching him, there was
nothing they could do. He was the master at this kind of
thing. They had nothing on him. He was THE MAN!!! Everyone
else was his intellectual inferior. No one could match him
in surveillance. No one could match him in strategy. He had
learned the hard way. In the jungles. In the battlefields.
None of these city cops could match that.

He drove through the parking lot until he found Justyn's
Mustang, then found the closest place nearly. He got out of
his Trans Am and locked it. He was wearing a light weight
jacket, which was kind of warm for the current temperature,
but not enough to cause suspicion if anyone saw him.

But it was essential to his plan. Inside the right coat
pocket was the transmitter to the sending device he planned
to attach under Justyn's car.

Bill hadn't known if he would ever use it when he bought it.
But it was always better to be prepared, just in case. And
now, it was going to pay for itself many times over. Maybe
once he took care of Brian and his boyfriend, he would see
if he could get the Detective somewhere by himself and have
a little fun with him too. It would be nice to see how tough
he acted as he was slowly being cut to pieces. Bill smiled
as he felt along his leg for the ever present knife he
always carried with him. Yeah, that would be a fun couple of
hours.

Bill walked past the Mustang and surveyed the surrounding
area. There was no one within sight. He walked quickly back
to the Mustang, squatted down next to front door, and
attached the transmitter to the frame. He quickly got up,
walked to his car, and tested the receiver. It came on
instantly and showed how close he was to the Mustang.

`Mission accomplished," Bill thought to himself as he got in
his Trans Am and cranked it. He backed out of the parking
place and drove slowly out of the parking lot. No use
drawing attention to himself. Bill was singing along to an
old rock song as he left the area. He was in a great mood.

                      ***************

Just as Justyn was about to walk out of his office to see
what Luke had found, his phone rang. "Detective Jones."

"Hello, Detective. This is Paul Anderson."

"Hello Mr. Anderson. What can I do for you?" Justyn asked.

"I just wanted to know if you have found out anything more
about my boy's murderer," he answered.

"Just a second," Justyn said, as he walked over and shut the
door to his office. "You do know how much trouble I would be
in if anyone found out I'm talking to you about an active
case, don't you, Mr. Anderson?"

"I already gave you my word that I wouldn't tell a soul.
What more can I do to convince you?" Mr. Anderson answered.

Justyn paused. He knew he had given Mr. Anderson his word.
"Ok, we have a suspect. He recently moved here from
Charlotte. We know where he lives and I have even spoken to
him myself. We just don't have enough evidence yet to be
able to arrest him for anything. It's just a matter of time,
Mr. Anderson. And that's the truth. I'm certain he killed Billy."

"I want his name and address then," Mr. Anderson answered.

"You know I can't give you that. Let me handle this, Mr.
Anderson," Justyn said sternly.

"Well, you can't blame me for trying, can you?" Mr. Anderson
laughed. "You'll keep me up to date, though?"

"Yes sir. I promised. And I will call you as soon as he is
arrested, I promise," Justyn answered.

"Ok son. Thanks for your time," Mr. Anderson said as he hung
up.

Justyn hung up the phone, relieved that Mr. Anderson didn't
drill him for any more details than he had. Then he hurried
towards Luke's office.

                         *************

"That's got to be him. Thanks for running the check, Luke,"
Justyn said, looking at the printout Luke had handed him.

"No problem. Just remember the dinner tonight," Luke
answered.

"Have fun, buddy. Just don't tell your girlfriend that
you've been looking at kiddy porn. I don't think that would
go over very well as dinner conversation," Justyn kidded.

"Very funny. Now can you get out of here so I can catch up
on my work instead of doing yours?" Luke kidded back.

"Sure, buddy. And thanks again," Justyn said as he walked
towards the door. "Oh, one more thing."

"What now?" Luke asked.

"Let me know what kind of city Yaphank is, OK? I might want
to visit there sometime," Justyn said, as he closed the door
to Luke's office.

"OH NO!!! I HAVE MY OWN WORK TO DO!" Luke yelled through the
closed door. Justyn ran as fast as he could for the steps
with a huge grin on his face. Luke quickly opened his door
and was shouting after him. "Leave me out of this. I can't
go traveling all over the country for you." But Justyn had
already disappeared up the steps.

                      **************

"This is Justyn Jones of the Atlanta Police Department. I'm
investigating the death of a sixteen year old boy that lived
in Yaphank named Jimmy Delgreco. Could I talk to a Detective
please?" Justyn asked.

"Certainly. I'll get you Detective Corwin. I think he
handled that case. One moment," the receptionist answered.

Justyn waited, puzzled. He was amazed that the receptionist
remembered the case and knew immediately who covered it.

"Detective Corwin."

"Detective, this is Justyn Jones of the Atlanta Police
Department. I'm investigating the death of a sixteen year
old boy that lived in Yaphank named Jimmy Delgreco. Did you
investigate the case?" Justyn asked.

"Just a minute. Let me shut my door, Ok?" he said. Justyn
waited patiently but he was back in seconds. "Look
Detective, I investigated the case all right. Can I ask why
you are interested in this case?"

"Sure. I have a suspect that is harassing a sixteen year old
boy here in Atlanta. I've traced him back through what I
believe is two different murders in Charlotte and Detroit to
Jimmy Delgreco. I believe his murder could also be
involved," Justyn explained.

Justyn heard a gasp on the other end. "I knew it. I knew it
couldn't be gang related. Not Jimmy," he answered.

"I'm sorry. I don't understand," Justyn said.

"You don't have any idea who Jimmy Delgreco was, do you?"
Detective Corwin asked.

"To be honest with you, I just got his name less than five
minutes ago. This is the first place I called," Justyn
answered.

"Mark Delgreco is his father. He is Chief of Police here.
Mary Delgreco is his mother. Her maiden name is Guillianni.
Does that name ring a bell?" Detective Corwin asked.

"The ex-major?" Justyn asked.

"His youngest sister. Jimmy grew up around this police
station. He was always running errands for all of us. He was
a great kid. Chief Delgraco runs this station like a family
and all of us enjoyed having Jimmy around. It was like he
was everyone's little brother, you know?" Detective Corwin
asked.

"Yeah. I can understand," Justyn answered quietly, content
to let Detective Corwin talk.

"And then he was shot in cold blood not two blocks from the
station. He was bringing back sandwiches from a deli close
by. The newspapers picked up on it and said it was gang
related. No one here believed that, but being related to
Guillanni caused the story to get quickly out of control,"
Detective Corwin said.

"Shit. That's bad," Justyn answered.

"Why do you think this has anything to do with your case?"
Detective Corwin asked.

"We found pictures of Jimmy on the computer of the second
murder victim we've traced so far," Justyn answered.

"What kind of pictures?" Detective Corwin asked.

"I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but we found
pornography type pictures of Jimmy that he had sent to who
he thought was his boyfriend," Justyn answered. "Our suspect
allegedly used them to lure in his next victim, using them
as himself. It was the same way in the other two cases as
well. That's how we have been able to track him so far,"
Justyn answered.

"Were they taken in a wood paneled room?" Detective Corwin
asked.

"Yeah. How did you know?" Justyn asked.

"That's Chief Delgreco's basement. I helped him finish it
myself. We did mine the next year. Like I said, we're like a
family here. And we found the same pictures on Jimmy's
computer," Detective Corwin answered. "Jimmy had purchased a
digital camera that had a timer attached from the tips he
earned running errands for us."

"Jesus. What else did you find?" Justyn said nervously.

"The Chief had our experts go over Jimmy's room, looking for
anything that might explain his death. We found a loose
floor board in his closet under the carpet. It had naked
pictures of another boy, but we've confirmed that they came
off the internet," Detective Corwin answered.

"Did you check them for fingerprints?" Justyn asked
breathlessly.

"Yeah. We only got one good print, but it came from an adult
that lived in New York City. We tried to find him, but he
had moved.."

"To Detroit?" Justyn interrupted.

"Yeah. How did you know?" Detective Corwin asked.

"Ex-military?" Justyn almost screamed.

"Yeah. You don't think?"

"I know it is. Can you give me some of your time tomorrow,
Detective? I'd like to see everything you have on this
case," Justyn answered.

"I have to be in court all day tomorrow. I can give you all
the time you want on Thursday," Detective Corwin said.

"That'll be fine. I'll fly up tomorrow night. Thanks for
your time, Detective Corwin. You've really helped me,"
Justyn said.

"No problem. If anything, we want this bastard more than you
do," Detective Corwin answered.

"No way in Hell," Justyn said, as he hung up the phone.
