			   Ocean Blue Chapter 3

Aiden stood at his front door trying to get his hands to stop
shaking as he tried for yet a third time to unlock it. Every time he got
even close to the target his hand would shake and he'd miss having to start
over again. He was surprised he hadn't dropped them by now.

"Sorry, sometimes my key doesn't always work." He lied, hoping Tristan
didn't notice that truthfully he just couldn't seem to calm down. Aiden
still couldn't figure out what possessed him to volunteer his house for a
place to study, but he was really starting to regret it. They weren't even
inside yet and he was already embarrassing himself.

"Here, let me try." Tristan said stepping closer to Aiden, taking the keys
from his hands. Aiden just blushed and handed them over.

Tristan got the door unlocked and opened within a matter of seconds
only adding to Aiden's embarrassment.

"Viola!" Tristan said with a smile.

"T-thanks." was all Aiden could manage. He silently led Tristan into the
living room. "You c-c-can s-sit." Aiden said gesturing towards the
couch. "I'll g-g-o g-et us s-something to eat." Aiden said heading into the
kitchen.

"Ok." Tristan replied trying to get comfortable and not to think about the
fact that he was with Aiden, the hottest guy he had ever seen in his entire
life, in his house, alone. He got out paper and a pencil and tried to focus
on his portion of the debate, not about Aiden's incredible emerald eyes and
the way they sparkled and lit up when he laughed. He tried to think of a
con to watching television and not about how the corners of Aiden's eyes
crinkled when he smiled. He also tried very hard not to think about how
when Aiden stuttered he looked like the poster boy for `cute and innocent'.

"Here ya go." Aiden said sitting next to Tristan on the couch, setting a
bowl of chips and two sodas down, startling Tristan out of his thoughts.

"Thanks." Tristan mumbled, trying to mentally compose himself.

Aiden grabbed he remote and turned the TV on, volume low, as to provide
some background noise.

"Y-you don't m-mind r-right?" he said using the remote to gesture to the
TV.

"No, I don't," Tristan said "I can't get any work done in complete silence
anyway."

"O-ok," Aiden said quietly.

The two boys worked in a rather comfortable silence and after a few
minutes Aiden asked a question about their project and that sparked a whole
conversation. Neither of them got much work done, but then again neither of
them really minded.

Before long an hour or so passed and Aiden realized that Tristan
hadn't bothered to call home or anything. He also noticed Tristan carefully
avoided any discussions about his family or his past. Every time Aiden
brought it up Tristan would either change the subject or answer a question
with a question, so eventually Aiden just gave up.

Tristan was well aware that Aiden wanted to know about his past,
but he just wasn't ready to tell. He had no idea how Aiden would react. He
knew Aiden was a good guy who seemed like he had an open mind, but even the
most open-minded people would turn their backs on you in a second when you
starting airing your dirty laundry. He definitely didn't want to lose
Aiden, even if that meant hiding a few things from him.

"S-so d-d-o you h-have a g-girlfriend?" Aiden asked out of nowhere. He
hadn't planned on asking that, it just kind of slipped out, but now that he
had asked he couldn't say he wasn't curious.

To say Tristan was caught of guard would be an understatement. He
nearly choked on the soda in his mouth,

"No, um I um I don't." Tristan said swallowing, trying to recover from the
shock of Aiden's question. "Do you?" he countered. He had already heard the
rumors that Aiden was gay, but he of all people knew that not all rumors
were necessarily true.

"N-no I d-don't." Aiden replied shaking his head.

"Oh," Tristan said quietly, the wheels already turning in his head. "Why
not?" he said so quietly he was surprised Aiden had heard him. He hadn't
noticed until now how close they were sitting. They were both leaning back
against the couch, shoulders touching, and their feet propped up on the
coffee table.

"W-what d-do y-ou m-m-mean?" Aiden asked beginning to feel
uncomfortable. He was surprised with how tense he was getting that he
hadn't blocked by now. So far everything Tristan had done said he was a
nice guy, but it also said he was a straight guy and Aiden really wasn't in
the mood to be judged.

"You're nice and a uh good looking guy, why don't you have a girlfriend?"
Tristan asked, his curiosity getting the better of him, not realizing what
he'd said.

Aiden turned to face Tristan, they were so close their noses were
almost touching. Tristan thought he was good looking? What did that mean?
Was it a sign or something?

"Y-you t-think I'm good l-l-l-ooking?" Aiden said, his voice revealing his
surprise.

Tristan blushed. He hadn't meant to that at all, but it wasn't as if he
could talk it back now. He certainly didn't want to hurt Aiden's feelings
and it wasn't like it was untrue.

"Yeah." Tristan whispered unconsciously leaning in a little closer to
Aiden. Their noses were even closer touching by now and he could feel
Aiden's breath on his cheek. Soft and warm.

Aiden couldn't stop himself from getting lost in Tristan's eyes. He
couldn't get over the way the mimicked the ocean perfectly. When he was
happy and smiling, they were clear and inviting, almost turquoise in
color. When he was troubled, like every time Aiden mention his past, they
were dark and cheerless, like during a storm. Now they were a mix between
the two, like right before nightfall.

He leaned forward a bit more so that their noses were touching. He
had no idea where this all this courage was suddenly coming from, but Aiden
couldn't stop himself. He could feel Tristan's breath speeding up as he
leaned in a bit more...

"Aiden!" came a voice from the kitchen. Aiden jumped up from the couch,
recognizing the voice immediately.

Tristan looked around confused, startled, and annoyed that their
moment had been broken. "Who's that?" he asked

"It's my mom." Aiden replied clearly confused. His mom very rarely made it
home before ten o'clock at night. He walked into the kitchen to find his
mother, with her back turned to him, making coffee. " Mom w-w-hat are you
d-d-d-oing h-home?."

Aiden's mother turned around and Aiden was shocked and how tired
she looked. Her normally clear green eyes were glassy and unfocused, with
dark circles under them. Her hair, which was normally worn down, was thrown
up into a messy bun.

"Oh, hi honey." Aiden's mom said "I had to come home early, not feeling to
well as you can see." She said trying to laugh, which only sent her into a
fit of coughing. She did not look good.

"Oh, w-well a-are you a-a-lright?" Aiden asked beginning to get worried. He
hadn't seen his mom like this since...well in a long time.

"Oh, yes dear I'm fine," She said waving her hand, dismissing the comment,
"Is someone here I thought I heard voices."

Aiden turned scarlet. He knew if he said anything his mother would
see right through him and go in the and start embarrassing him, but it
wasn't like he could just let the question go unanswered.

"T-t-that's T-tristan he's a f-f-f" Aiden blocked and looked down at the
floor.

"Ah...a friend...I see," Aiden's mother said, nodding her head, clearly not
believing Aiden, "Must be a pretty special friend huh?" She said smiling

Aiden just nodded, he couldn't manage much else.

"Well, are you going to introduce us or not?" His mother asked, quickly
becoming amused with the whole situation. It was obvious to her that Aiden
was infatuated and she wanted to meet the boy who caused it.

"S-sure." Aiden said heading towards the living room.

When Aiden came in Tristan immediately stood up. When he saw the
woman behind him who was clearly Aiden's mother, since she had the same
emerald eyes, although hers were a bit cloudy, he immediately began to
fidget. It was a nervous habit that he just couldn't seem to shake.

"T-tristan, t-this is m-m-my mom, M-m-om this is T-Tristan." Aiden said,
worried his mom was going to say or do something embarrassing.

Tristan quickly over came his fidgeting and started to pour on the charm.

"Hi, Mrs. Jones it's nice to meet you." He said with a smile.

Aiden's mom just laughed, "Last time I checked Mrs. Jones was my mother. My
name, on the other hand is Beth."

"Well, um Beth, you have a lovely home." Tristan said.

"Thank you very much, Tristan. You seem like a nice boy, and it's nice to
finally see Aiden making friends." She said with a smile

"M-m-mom!" Aiden hissed under his breath. Tristan just smiled, noticing how
cute Aiden was when he was all flustered.

"Well, I suppose that's my cue," Beth said with a smile "I'm not feeling
very well as it is or else I would stay and chat. It was nice meeting you
Tristan."

"You to Mrs.- um Beth." Tristan replied.

After she was safely out of earshot Aiden turned to Tristan,

"S-sorry a-about t-t-that." He said sheepishly.

Tristan laughed, "It's not a problem."

They both stood there in a kind of awkward silence until Tristan noticed
the time. He knew his parents didn't really care where he was, but he
didn't want to push it.

"I better go." Tristan said sadly.

It was clear by the look on Aiden's face that he was disappointed. "Oh,
o-ok," he said.

Tristan bent down and began picking up his stuff and stuffing it in his
backpack. When he was done, he was disappointed Aiden hadn't mention
anything about him coming over again or vice versa and he was beginning to
worry he'd made him uncomfortable. Tristan didn't say anything though, just
slung his bag over his shoulder and made his way to the door.

Aiden followed behind him, apparently closer than he thought
because when Tristan turned around to say goodbye they were face to
face. Without meaning to Aiden took a step back not seeing the hurt look in
Tristan's eyes. He wanted to invite Tristan over again, but he really
didn't want to push it. That would be all he needed, to come onto Tristan
and be rejected.

"So, I'll uh see you tomorrow I guess." Tristan said turning back around
and reaching for the doorknob. He knew he really didn't have a reason to
be, but he was hurt over Aiden taking that step back.

"Y-yeah b-bye." Aiden said, not looking Tristan in the eyes.

`What in the world have I gotten myself into??' Aiden thought to himself
after closing the door behind Tristan.
