Rian
chapter 9

It was a Wednesday when the problems started. Rian had been acting as
girly as he could which was complemented by his beautiful yet slightly
feminine features. He was having fun, Rian had never been so free and
open in his life and it was as if a great weight had been lifted off his
shoulders. Most lunch times he spent some time in the library checking
his email. Email was the only link to Tristian and Jake. Then he would
spend the rest of his time with his new friends in their spot under the
trees.

It was on the way back from one such expedition where he had got a really
sweet email from Jake, that trouble happened. Rian had had mixed
responses to his new persona, one he felt wasn't really him, more an
extreme him. He had gotten a few lewd suggestions, which he had
completely ignored, a few seemingly idle threats of violence, which he
had also ignored, some strange uncomprehending looks and even some
admiring glances.

It was the seemingly idle threats of violence that finally caught up with
him. Rian was walking down the corridor from the library heading outside
when two boys intercepted him. Heart thumping Rian paused. He wasn't one
for violence, especially after being on the receiving end of it so many
times.

"Hey fag, where you going?" One of the boys, a big hulking unfortunate
looking boy, asked.

"To have my lunch." Rian answered simply.

"They don't serve cum sandwiches at our school fag." The other kinda
weedy looking guy said. They laughed loudly.

Rian raised an eyebrow at the pathetic attempt at a joke. "Not to worry
boys I have my own supply thanks."

Rian brushed past them but was yanked back by the big one. "I said where
you going?"

"And I answered you if you don't remember." Rian snapped back. Some
feeling was building inside him. A burning energy, something he had never
felt before. When the boys dragged him around and slammed him against the
concrete wall, Rian realized what the feeling was.

Anger. All the shit he had been dealing with hadn't really been resolved
and now he had this feeling, this need, to lash out. So when the first
punch slammed into his guts Rian's pent up anger burst out.

He vaguely remembered shouts until a pair of strong arms him from behind
and propelled him away from the noise. Rian came to when he heard an
engine roar into life.

He started and looked around just as the car^Å car? .. moved out of the
school grounds. At the drivers seat sat a boy he had never seen before.
That wasn't saying much though as Rian hardly knew anyone at the school.
"Huh?" He stated dumbly.

The boy looked over at him. "I wondered when that was going to happen."

Rian stared at the boy in shock and confusion. "What happen? Who are
you?"

"My name's Julian. I stopped you from beating the shit out of those
guys back there. Quite a left hook you got there." He spoke idly with
absolute calmness.

"Oh god. Did I hurt them?" Rian asked anxiously.

"No tiger, just winded them though Wiggins will have a bit of a
shiner." Julian smiled at Rian. "And don't worry I got you out of
there before the teachers saw."

"Oh." Rian paused and they sat in silence for a while. "Um. Where are
we going?"

"Beach. So do you dress like that cause you like it or cause you're
angry?" Julian commented as he watched the road.

"What?" Rian was feeling a little shell-shocked.

"The girly stuff. You really like it or are you just angry?"

Rian was angry now. Who the hell did this guy think he was? "Take me
back to school."

"It's anger. I was wondering when the dam was going to burst." Julian
ignored Rian's comment.

"Who the fuck do you think you are?" Rian demanded angrily at the
frustrating boy.

"Just one fag helping out another." He grinned. Rian suddenly realized
how hot Julian was. He had blonde sun bleached hair, green eyes and
tanned skin. His smile was big and gave him deep dimples.

"Lets listen to some music." Julian said suddenly.

He pushed a CD in and music blared out. It was Regurgitator.

I sucked a lot of cock to get where I am
I only want to be the best that I can
my mouth is stained I can't complain
I keep on rinsing it again and again

^Å
take a look at me
tell me what do you see?
I've got all I want
I'm on top of the heap
now they suck up to me
I sucked more cock
you can get what you need
just get down on your knees

you've sucked a lot of cock to get where you are
your smile is stretching but you're gonna go far
your life is pain you can't complain
you keep on rinsing it again and again I know I know-whoa-oh-oh-oh
I sucked a lot of cock to get where I am
I know I know-whoa-oh-oh-oh
I only wanna be the best that I can

I know I know-whoa-oh-oh-oh
I sucked a lot of cock to get where I am
I know I know-whoa-oh-oh-oh
I only wanna be the best that I can
(Reguritator: Tu-Plang; I Sucked A Lot of Cock to Get Where I am, 1997)

Julian grinned again. "Appropriate hey? I made a mixed CD of their songs
that I like."

Rian found himself smiling. He had a soft spot for Regurgitator. He had
seen them play quite a few times and also when they had spent around two
weeks recording their new album in a see-through bubble in Federation
Square. He shook himself back.
Rian looked at the boy driving curiously, trying to place him but coming
up blank. Julian smiled at him unselfconsciously and they continued
driving in silence.

Reaching the beach Julian shut of the car just as Regurgitator started to
sing I Like Your Old Stuff Better Than Your New Stuff, and got out.
Cautiously Rian followed. Julian sat down on the sat and patted the spot
next to him. Rian sat down, leaving quite a bit of space between them.

"So you're gay?" Rian blurted out a moment later when the other boy
said nothing.

"Yep. But I've made my peace with that side of me. You haven't yet."
Julian said watching Rian expectantly.

"What the fuck? I have so. I would never feel comfortable wearing this
unless I had." Rian retorted.

"Nah. You're not comfortable. I mean, that's not who you are is it?
It's just a show, just a pretence. Turn the discomfort onto other people
so that you don't have to feel it, so that you can feel self righteous
if you see people react to it." Julian leaned back and watched a gob
smacked Rian.

"What? I^Å" Rian paused. That did make sense and Rian could think of no
response.

"I've been watching you since you got here. I could see the anger
building there under the surface. I knew it was going to explode
sometime." Julian was raking his fingers through the sand and Rian was
watching finding it amazingly calming.

"You were watching me?" He asked, not sure how he felt about this fact.

"Yeah. I like to watch people and you seemed particularly interesting.
Took me longer than usual to figure you out." Julian saw Rian's look
and grinned. "My grandma says I have a gift for reading people."

Rian just gave him a cynical look to which Julian laughed. "Ok then oh
masterful one, tell me what you `read' about me."

Julian's look turned serious. "You have to promise to think about it
before getting angry ok?"

Rian nodded, still with an eyebrow raised.

"Ok. Well like I said before, being gay is still an issue with you.
You're not comfortable in your own skin at the moment. The fact you
decided to be so loud about it suggests you either feel proud or you want
to shove it in people's faces. I think the latter. I think this is a
reaction to something someone did to hurt you because you are gay. That
and the fact you changed school so late in the year suggests something
serious." Julian paused to search Rian's shocked face.
"You're very angry and feel betrayed by the person who hurt you. Either
a close friend or family."

Rian felt strange. How did he know all this? "How?"

Julian shrugged. "I dunno. I just watched you sometimes. You're in some
of my classes."

"Well you certainly got some truths there." Rian paused. "I'm not
sure if I'm ready to admit how many truths yet."

Julian smiled at him. "That's a truthful outlook." He giggled when
Rian's arm snaked out and smacked him in the side.

Rian fell back in the sand, not caring if he got the itchy stuff
everywhere. "I feel like maybe we could be friends. Do you?"

Julian plopped down next to him. "Yep! Now tell me about your boyfriend
Jake. I think you should see him soon, you need to touch base."

Rian stared over at Julian in shock, his mouth hanging open. "How?"

Julian laughed hard. "I know Amy. I asked her about you." His laughing
changed when a body landed on top of him and fingers found his ticklish
sides.

"Bastard!"
