Chapter 3

I didn't see Donny again for three weeks. He never did call me and
deep down inside I preyed that the reason he hadn't was because he was
okay, that he and Scott hadn't gotten into another fight that left him hurt
or possibly dead. My over-active imagination kept flashing images of Donny
sick in a hospital or some dark, deserted alley slumped over the drunken
bum trying to find warmth. To ease my troubled mind I checked his
attendance record, he'd been at school everyday since the party; that put
my mind at ease for a little bit.
Three days a week I am allowed to leave school early, there was
really no classes I needed to take and I refused a study hall, but I never
left. Being the nice and sweet kid I am I stayed and helped with the office
doing things like sort mail and make copies. Sucking up is the best way to
get on the administrations good side, and that's where I wanted to be. I
didn't get straight A's by being a genius you know.
"Jamie, dear?" Mrs. Johnstan, the school secretary, called. "Would
you please do me a big favor?"
"Anything for a pretty lady like you."
She laughed, "Oh Jamie, you are too much. Take this folder down to
room 207 in the sophomore wing? Seems poor old Miss Larimer forgot it when
she was down here earlier. She's getting too old to be a teacher, I don't
even think she can see the blackboard anymore."
I took the folder from her and smiled, "It'd be my pleasure,
Ma'am." I said using my best cowboy accent.
	"Get out of here!"

				    ***

My school has four floors. The first floor was for the freshmen and
the special arts classes. I had all my art credits, so the only time I was
on the floor is when I was helping around the office. The second floor was
sophomores and some of the English classes. My senior English class was
upstairs, so I was never on that floor either. The third floor was for
juniors and science classes. I had Advanced Chemistry and Advanced Biology
on that floor. And finally the fourth floor was seniors and computer and
mathematics classes. Most of my classes were here, computers and sciences
were my thing. I absolutely excelled at them.
Miss Larimer was my homeroom teacher when I was a sophomore; she
doesn't even remember me. I had no problem finding my way around even
though I hadn't been on the floor in almost a year. When I entered the
classroom all the kids turned and looked at me, they were in the middle of
taking a test. "Can I help you young man?" Miss Larimer said rising
slightly from her chair.
I walked up to her desk "You left this in the office this morning,
Mrs. Johnstan wanted me to return it." I handed her the folder.
"Yes," she said looking it over, "yes this is mine." She slumped
back in her seat. "I was wondering where this went to. This is the test I
was supposed to give my students today." A few of the kids snickered, they
were already taking the test, and I bothered not to say anything about it.
She thanked me for returning it and I quietly walked to the
door. As soon as I opened the door she yelled. "Young man, do not return to
my room again if you haven't any business with me or my students. I should
call the office on you." The kids started laughing aloud and I snuck out of
the room before she could say anything more.
Once in the hallway I noticed a familiar streak of blue hair
standing in front of a locker, I smiled and started to approach him. The
door to the stairwell that was closest to Donny opened and Scott came
rushing out of it. Donny had just shut the locker door when Scott slammed
him into it. "You fucking PRICK!"
	"Scott I'm sorry, I didn't mean to--"
"Just shut up! GOD! How could you be so stupid Donny? How could you
do this to me? I thought you loved me."
"I do love you Scott, it's just that--"
"I don't want to hear it Donny! I can't fucking believe you!"
"Scott please--" Donny was in tears now, I don't see how either of
them could have not seen me standing there.
"Donny, I'm willing to forget you did this to me. I'm willing to
forgive you for what you did. Would you like me to do that?" Donny
nodded. "On your knees!" He yelled in Donny's face. I snuck over to the
stairwell Scott came out of and watched from there. Scott pushed Donny to
the floor, so that his face was eye level to Scott's crotch.
"Scott, please not here. Class will be over soon and everyone will
see please--"
Scott unzipped his jeans and let his cock pop out. I remembered
seeing it at the party, it somehow didn't seem as attractive now as it did
then. "Scott--"
"Suck it faggot!" Scott shoved his hips in Donny's face. Donny
slowly opened his mouth and Scott rammed it in, choking Donny. "That's it,
you stupid little fag." Scott kicked him in the stomach forcing Donny to
release his cock and double over in pain. "Did I say you could do that?" He
asked picking Donny's head up and shoving his cock back in his mouth. Donny
was coughing and trying to pull away, he was having problems breathing. I
looked at my watch, ten minutes before the end of class. I left my hiding
place and somehow got behind Scott with out him knowing. I grabbed him from
behind and pulled him away. Donny fell to the ground gasping for air. "What
the hell?" Scott turned towards me, his was went pale. "Jamie, did you see
him? That little faggot was begging me to suck his dick! He offered me
money and everything."
"I saw everything, Scott. And do you not remember the New Year's
party where you informed me that Donny was your boyfriend?"
"Boyfriend?" Scott looked around. "I'm straight."
"Yeah and I'm Brittany Spears." I rolled my eyes. "Get outta here,
I promise I won't say anything as long as you leave now." Scott looked from
me to Donny then back to me, then turned and ran to the stairwell. I turned
to Donny; "You okay?"
"I think we've had this conversation before." I stood and helped
him up, "Except this time you didn't kiss me."
"We could change that." I said making kissy faces at him. We both
laughed.
"This is the second time you've saved me." He said
matter-of-factly. "Are you my savior?"
"Yes, I was sent to Earth to protect you." I put my arm around his
shoulders and walked him down the hall as the bell rang, "So what'd you do
to him this time?"
"It's stupid really." He said looking down, "I deserved that."
I sighed heavily. "Let me take you home, and you can tell me what
you did that you deserved to be treated like that."

				    ***

"All I did was tell my mother that I was in love with Scott." Donny
said shoving another french fry in his mouth. I took him to get some food
and then decided to go the park and eat it. "She wasn't happy about it. I
mean, it's okay with her that I'm gay and stuff, she just doesn't trust
Scott at all. And I know what you're thinking, but Scott is really sweet
sometimes, and I'm happy just being with him."

"But I thought he wanted you to love him. Didn't he say 'I thought
you loved me?'"
"He does. But the thing is my mom called his dad and told him that
Scott was in love with me. Scott's dad is totally homophobic, and his dad
beat him last night. He does that every now and then. But it never hurts
Scott he doesn't even bruise. I shouldn't have said anything."
"Donny, why do you put up with him?"
"He is the best thing that ever happened to me, everyone needs
someone to love them."
"There are better people than him in the world Donny. Look," I
pulled the visor down and flipped opened the mirror, "this is what he does
to you. Your face is a mass of purple and blue. Your neck and upper body
aren't any better." I lifted his shirt and lightly touched his ribs; he
shuddered and pulled back. "One of these days he's going to hurt you bad
Donny."
He no longer looked at me; he just sat there looking out the
window. "You don't understand." He whispered. "It's so hard for me to find
someone. I mean look at me," he turned towards me once again, "Who would
want this? Scott loves me for me, and that's all I really want out of life,
that's all that really matters. For you it's easy, when you go after a girl
there is a great chance she is straight and finds you attractive. When I go
after a guy not only to I have to make sure he's attracted to me, but I
have o make sure he's gay, there aren't very many gay people in this
community and I don't want to be alone."
"You're not alone Donny, there are people out there that can help
you, people who really care. I care."
"But you're just my friend, I need a lover. That's something you
could never be to me. Take me home please, I have a lot of homework to do."

				    ***

That night I pondered what Donny had said. I was gay and alone and
I was fine -- wasn't I? The more I thought about it the more lonely I
felt. I lay on my bed and stared at the walls; I was missing something in
my life, I needed someone to hold, to care for me. For once in my life I
regretted being gay. It had never bothered me before, I always thought that
I could get along this way, that everything was going to be okay with my
life, but now I was filled with uncertainties. And it was all because of a
16-year-old boy with long blonde hair and soft blue eyes. As I closed my
eyes I pictured Donny without all the bruises, a Donny that was free of
harm, free of Scott and he was the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen in my
entire mind. As I drifted to sleep a little voice inside me told me the
thing I had always known but never wanted to admit, I was falling in love
with Donny.

Hope you like this chapter, I was going to add a little more to it, but
I'll save that for the next chapter.

Chapter 4

After that Donny became the center of my attention, I would
actually go out of my way to see him. If I saw him after school I'd give
him a ride home. For about a month Scott seemed to lay off of Donny. His
bruises were healing and he was smiling a lot more often. When they were
alone at the lunch table (with the exception of George, the other kid that
was at the party with them) they would hold hands where they thought no one
can see. I walked in on their make-out sessions quite a few times. Donny
was happy, and for that I was eternally grateful.
Donny and I became great friends; his face would light up whenever
he saw me. He never asked me why I wasn't dating anyone, he never asked why
there were times when I just stared at him. He was everything I ever
wanted, smart, sexy, sweet, innocent, and absolutely the most beautiful
human being I had ever laid eyes on. But Scott made him happy, and who was
I to interfere with that? As long as Scott wasn't hurting him it was none
of my business.

				    ***

I had about a month left of school before graduation and I was
psyched. I was finally going to be out of this school, out of this
piece-of-shit town, and out of everyone's life. I was finally free.
For about a week I noticed that Donny wasn't at school. Scott and
George sat alone at their table and talked as if Donny never existed. I
could swear that I'd seen them holding hands once or twice, and they always
seemed to be together in the stairwells at the strangest of moments, but I
couldn't prove anything ... or could I?
I grabbed my video camera from home and stuck it in my truck, if I
saw them together I would film it. And since I couldn't capture them at
school, I would have to follow them around, Donny didn't deserve this
either. If Scott truly loved him he wouldn't be all over George in his
absence, which brought up the question: Where the hell was Donny?
I didn't have to wait long for my evidence, and I didn't even have
to do much detective work. One Friday I just stepped out to my van and
guess who was making out in the car behind me? I grabbed the camera and
went to work. I zoomed in on Scott's hand, which was down George's pants,
the tongue action was great, and this would prove that Scott was nothing
but scum, yet somehow I already knew that.
I got a few minutes of this when their lips broke. George unzipped
his shorts and pulled down his boxers, his hard cock point proudly
up. Scott went down on George; I made sure to get a close up of that. His
tongue lapping around the base of the cock and his low hanging balls. His
lips lightly kissing the glistening head as he engulfed the entire thing;
this was getting good. George tensed and pushed Scott's mouth further down,
he then yet out a yell even I could here as he came in Scott's mouth
... and I had it all on tape! George then looked up and saw me standing
there, a look of shock and horror crossed his face as I smiled and waved
like an idiot. Scott then looked up and noticed what was going on, he
started getting angry. I turned off my camera, hoped in my truck and drove
over to Donny's house, laughing all the way.

				    ***

A small lady with the same beautiful eyes as Donny opened the
door. "Can I help you?"
"Yes, my name is Jamie and I'm a friend of Donny's. I realized he
hadn't been at school in a few days and I was kind of worried about him, is
he okay?"
She smiled. "So you are Jamie, its great o finally meet you, Donny
talks about you all the time. Come in, please." I followed her into the
house. "My Donny thinks the world of you. He told me about how you saved
him at the New Year's party, you're his hero, he wants to be just like
you." She sighed and grabbed a cup of coffee off the table in the living
room. "His room is upstairs, third room to the right. But I'll warn you,
it's not a pretty sight, he got him good this time."
	"Who did?"
She looked up at me, "No one. I'm sure Donny will be overly happy
to see you, go on." She put her hand on my shoulder and walked out of the
room.
	I walked into what she said was his room. He was asleep on the bed;
his face turned away from my sight, but even without being able to see his
whole face I knew what it looked like. As I approached dark spots
"appeared" on his face, you could hardly see the white of his skin between
the mass of bruises. His neck had big circular bruises on it, finger marks,
someone had tried to strangle him. Tears filled my eyes before I even
reached the bed, how could someone do this to someone? How could you try
and destroy the life of a beautiful young man?
I pulled a chair to the side of his bed and sat looking at his
bruised skin. There were deep cuts on his arms, some bandaged, some not. A
huge bandage covered his side and there were long red gashes all over his
chest. I grabbed his hand that's about all I could do besides cry, and
that's what I did; I sat there beside this battered young man and cried my
eyes out. I wasn't there for him, the one time he really needed me there
and I wasn't anywhere around.
"I didn't think hero's cried." I looked up and saw Donny smiling at
me. "I was wondering when you were going to come and see me."
"I didn't know what happened to you. I was really worried, I guess
I had the right to be didn't I?"
"It's not as bad as it looks Jamie, really."
"What happened? Why did he do this to you again? Why did you let
him?"
Donny sighed and looked the other way; he had this thing about not
looking me in the eye when he had something important to tell me. I wanted
to grab his face and make him look at me, but I was afraid of hurting
him. "Scott had a good excuse this time." My grip on his hand
tightened. "We were over at his house in his room. It was the first time he
had ever wanted to really get intimate with me and I wanted it really
bad. I guess I got over excited and his dad heard us, he came in and
started yelling. He told us he needed a drink and left the house. When he
was gone I tried to start things back with Scott but he just pushed me
away. He told me that his dad was going to go out and get himself drunk
now, and when he got drunk he beat him. He told me that it was all my
fault, I shouldn't have gotten so loud. Then he slapped me and told me not
to fight back this time because I really deserved it.
"He started punching me hard in the face, I tried to defend myself,
I really did, but he was going to take one of his ties and ties my hands to
the bed post. I tried to get up and run while he was getting the tie but he
caught me and threw me on the floor. He then took off his belt and started
hitting me repeatedly on my chest and side. I had turned over so that my
chest was against the wall and he started hitting me here," he said lightly
touching the bandage on his side, "He beat me there even after he drew
blood. I had to get stitches there from where the buckle of the belt had
torn away a lot of the skin, or that's what the doctor said anyway. That's
when George got there, he held me down while Scott finished. When I thought
he was done I felt relieved, and I wondered what you were doing, because it
seemed like every time I was in trouble you were there to help. He then
ripped off my boxers, which was the only thing I was wearing and tried to
fuck me. But before I let him get too close I kicked him in his balls,
knocking him to the floor. George got mad at this for some reason and began
choking me and I couldn't get him to stop, he just kept telling me he was
going to kill me. I then blacked out totally. The next thing I remember is
waking up in the back of an ambulance screaming in pain. At the hospital
they told my mother that someone had called 911 and said that there was a
dead guy in an alley. The funny thing is that it wasn't anywhere near
Scott's house, they must have dragged me there and left me to die. The cops
came and kept asking questions I didn't want to answer. I even hired a
lawyer who told me I didn't have to tell them what happened if I didn't
want to. So after they stitched me up and gave me a bunch of pain pills,
they let me come home."
"You call that a good excuse? Donny, he should have just gotten out
of the house when he thought his dad was going to beat him. And let me tell
you, his dad didn't do anything too bad to him, he's been in good condition
all week."
"His dad never hurts him that bad."
"Have you ever actually seen him beat Scott?" Donny shook his head,
"Even hit him a little?" he shook his head again, "Once?" he looked down
and mouthed the word "no", "I really don't think Scott's dad beats him, I
think that he just uses that as an excuse to beat you. Has there ever been
a time that he hit you that didn't have anything to do with his dad?" He
thought about it for a minute; tears started streaming down his
face. Slowly at first, then he covered his eyes with his hands and started
bawling. I grabbed him and held him to my chest as he cried.
"He told me that he loved me. He told me that he was the only one
who would be willing to love me. Why do I love him so much?"
"Because you haven't had the chance to love anyone else, once you
find other people to love you'll realize that it wasn't love you felt for
him. You were vulnerable and needed someone, he just happened to take
advantage to you. But you're not the first one that's ever been taken
advantage of and you won't be the last." I let go of him enough to look him
in the eyes, "You need to get out of Scott's grasp before he kills you, and
he will try, I know he will, you have to trust me." I sat there, staring
into his beautiful blue-gray eyes and a feeling came over me; this is what
I wanted, this is what I needed in life. I leaned down and gently kissed
his lips. "This is wrong." I kept telling myself, "I shouldn't be doing
this." But I still kept kissing him. He grabbed the back of my head and
pulled me closer to him kissing me back with as much force as I'd ever been
kissed.
A few minutes into the kiss I heard footsteps coming up the
stairs. I pulled away quickly and Donny gave me a strange look. The door to
his room open and Scott walked in. He jumped when he saw me; Donny jumped
when he saw Scott. "I just came to talk to Donny." Scott said. "Can I?
Alone?"
I looked at Donny who nodded. I hugged him tightly and told him I'd
be back tomorrow and left them alone in the room.
Downstairs I stopped by the kitchen to say by to Donny's
mother. "It was that little monster who did that to my baby wasn't it?" I
didn't say anything. "I tried telling the cops it was him, and they even
went over to the little bastard's house. But they couldn't find anything
incriminating, not a drop of blood in site. I told them that I knew they
could get a blood sample from a carpet even after it's been washed a
thousand times, but they told me that it wasn't worth it; they interviewed
him and seemed to think he was a really nice kid. He's going to kill my
baby isn't he?"
I went to her and wrapped my arms around her. "Not if I can help
it."
