|Searching for Truth|

3 "Danny. Danny!" Aaron yelled, alarmed.

Danny lied on the bed, lightheaded, woozy, feeling all warm inside like a
hot, steaming cup of hot cocoa--mixed with drugs. He couldn't believe what
just happened. He had just had his first kiss, and it was like a rocket
blasting off into space. He tried to look up at Aaron, who was still on top
of him. He simply stared into the worried eyes that were staring intently
back at him. Danny smiled.

The worried look on Aaron's face disappeared.

"Oh, jeez. You blacked out on me for a few seconds there... I thought I
killed you. I know that I'm a good kisser, but that--that was uncalled
for," Aaron confessed proudly.

"Whblablayuehadfa..." was all that came from Danny's mouth.

Aaron looked at Danny with an amused look on his face. Danny was still
smiling. Aaron leaned lower and brushed his nose against Danny's and Danny
closed his eyes at the contact. He was momentarily happy.

The door opened suddenly.

"Son, dinner's rea- What--in--the--hell is going on in here?!"

Danny shot up, shoving Aaron to the floor. His mind went sharp, his eyes
shot wide open, and his happiness was sapped away at the sound of his dad's
voice.

"NOTHING!" Danny quickly replied, fear evident in his voice.

"NOTHING?! You're telling me that I saw you two DO NOTHING??!?!" David,
Danny's dad, asked on the verge of breaking the sound barrier.

Danny simply nodded his head with a gulp.

"You two were wrestling were't you?! ALLELUJIA! My son's finally taking to
a sport! It ain't no football, but wrestling is as fine of a sport for a
young man. None of that swimming or running nonsense," David said
excitedly, basically bouncing with happiness.

Danny almost fainted at those words. What the hell? He wasn't sure if his
dad was serious or if he was just bluffing and was about to seriously beat
his ass with a two by four.

"Young man," David sang to Aaron, "thank you! Now, what's the name of the
man who's influencing my boy to participate in more contact sports?"

"Aaron, sir!" Aaron responded, a hint of laughter in his light voice.

"Well, Aaron, why don't you boys come on down to dinner. The wife has her
famous meat loaf all ready for us."

"Yes, sir. We'll be on our way," Aaron assured.

Mr. Sullivan left two boys in the room. Danny had his mouth hanging open
and Aaron began laughing out loud.

"I think. Your parents are totally clueless," Aaron laughed
hysterically. He couldn't believe the naivete of Danny's parents.

"Let's go," Danny muttered, getting up and leaving the room.

"Hey, wait up. What's the matter with you?" Aaron asked as he got up
quickly to catch up with Danny.

"Nothing. Just leave me alone."

"What's up with you? Hey!"

Danny left the room without answering and headed downstairs. A whirlwind of
thoughts flew across the surface of his mind. He thought about what he was
doing. How he could do such crazy and naughty things. Guilt flowed through
him like a torrent. This always happened whenever he did something
bad. After his "solo" periods, he always felt guilty a few seconds after
the rush of pleasure and excitement. Now, his guilt is even worse after
kissing another guy... He had to stop his stupidity, his vileness, his
abnormality. If somebody found out in a small town like this, where
everybody knew who had what car, who had what job, who had what house on
the street, he'd be burned at the stake. He prayed to God to kill his
"other" side. All these transient moments of happiness were not worth the
consequence of being dirty. He heard footsteps behind him and he felt a
gentle, comforting hand on his shoulder. He turned quickly around.

"Go. Get out," Danny sternly said at Aaron.

"Huh? Why? Oh, c'mon," Aaron said with a warm smile on his painfully cute
face.

"I want you to leave me alone. Now, or I'll just tell everyone what you
really are if you don't leave me alone," Danny threatened harshly.

"What, what? Did I hear things right. You need to relax," Aaron pointed out
with a frown on his face.

"NO. I'm not going to "relax". You're going to ruin my life, so while I
still have a good life: leave me alone," Danny almost yelled.

"What life? All of this life I see so far is living a lie--in fear and
guilt. And I don't give a shit if you tell the whole town I'm gay. I'm
already out. My parents know and my friends in Houston know," Aaron
asserted heatedly. What did he get himself into? He was willing to go on
with this because Danny's a cute guy and he hadn't had anything cute in a
while.

Danny didn't respond to what Aaron just said. He stood there, defeated. It
was all true. He was hiding, unhappy, afraid... He lived a secret life that
nobody in the town could know. But, he could change. He just knew it. All
he had to do was force himself to not like other guys. He begin now to
protect himself from being discovered by the townspeople. But, he was
jealous too. Aaron had nothing to hide. His family and friends know he's
gay and it seems that they've already accepted who he is. He couldn't let
anyone else know though, not even his best friend. Never. He looked back at
Aaron ready to fire an argument, but was interrupted by Aaron's dark green
eyes that were filled with a deep sadness... or pity for him.

"Danny! Aaron! Dinner's ready! Oh! You boys are already here! Well, come
on. The table's all set. Danny!" Mrs. Sullivan boomed with her powerful
voice from the kitchen doorway.

Danny snapped out of his hypnosis and replied with a hasty nod. He hurried
to the dinnertable ready for the night to be over. Things were not going as
he wanted it to. It's all Aaron's fault. Aaron followed Mrs. Sullivan to
the dinnertable.

"Aaron, you can sit beside Danny. I apologize for the small table,"
Mrs. Sullivan remarked as she sat down opposite of Danny.

"Thant's alright Mrs. Sullivan. It's not a problem. Thank you for having me
for dinner," said Aaron as he sat down beside Danny.

Danny didn't look at the young man next to him. He looked straight ahead
with a fake smile at his mother. He felt awkward being this close to Aaron,
but Aaron seemed to like the close proximity of the two. Aaron's bare arm
was brushing against Danny's. Danny liked the feeling and let it happen
until he realized what was really happening and he took his arm quickly
away.

"Well, isn't this nice, honey?" Mrs Sullivan inquired of her husband who
was already putting food on his plate.

"Mmhmm... Yes, sweetie," answered Danny's dad just as he put some mashed
potatoes on his half-full plate.

Mrs. Sullivan's eyes widened at seeing what her husband was doing. Her face
turned sour and her nose flared. Danny knew this was not a good sign. To
avoid the full blast, he turned from his parents to face Aaron. He took a
quick look at the handsome face that had a confused look on it. He smiled
involuntarily at seeing Aaron's face. He lost all train of thought. After
having seen Aaron and after having kissed him, Danny could not help but
stare at the young man that would be his downfall.

"WHAT IN GOD'S NAME ARE YOU DOING, DAVID?!?! HOW DARE YOU TOUCH THE FOOD
WITHOUT SAYING GRACE! PUT THAT SPOON DOWN NOW OR I WILL TAKE IT FROM YOU
AND BEAT YOU WITH IT!!!!!" Mrs. Sullivan bellowed at her husband, who
dropped the spoon at the first sound of his wife's voice.

David looked fearfully up at Mrs. Sullivan's face. His eyes were wide with
fear and regret at what he just did. Danny closed his eyes his mom's first
word and Aaron almost got knocked out of his chair.

"I-I'm sorry, honey... I forgot..." Mr. Sullivan attempted to plead.

"You... FORGOT THE LORD JESUS?! Jesus, Mary, and Joseph... That's
it. Everybody, we're saying grace NOW," Martha commanded with authority.

Everyone made the sign of the cross except Aaron, who didn't know
how. Mrs. Sullivan didn't notice.

With her eyes closed, Mrs. Sullivan began to say grace.

"Dear Lord in Heaven, please bless this food we are about to receive
through your kindness and grace. Please forgive David for his
trangressions. We pray for the forgiveness of our sins, the destruction of
all the vices and evils that plague the world, especially the homosexual
men and women that we see more frequently on the news. May you destroy
their influences on our world. Amen. Next week we'll pray for the gluttons
and I want YOU to say it David," Mrs. Sullivan ended.

Danny stared at his empty plate, his apepite lost after having said, mostly
because his mom's prayer was a bit... well, yeah. Aaron had a forced smile
on his face, pitying Mrs. Sullivan's ignorance. He looked at Danny next to
him and noticed the despondent look on Danny's face. He understood what was
going through his head at this moment. He'd been through it before. Aaron
discreetly put his hand on top of Danny's from under the table to comfort
him. Danny looked up at Aaron at the contact of their hands. Aaron saw fear
and pain in those gray eyes. Danny looked away quickly and pushed Aaron's
hand off his. Danny began to put a little food on his plate.

"Put more on your plate, son. You'll need more food if you're going to go
into wrestling. You know, I heard Myers Central High School has a really
good wresting team. It's because of the training the coach puts the kids
through. Really physically exhausting," Mr. Sullivan mentioned absent
mindedly.

Danny nodded and commenced slopping food on his plate. Aaron bit his lower
lip and decided to go ahead and eat. His seduction plan didn't go so well
tonight. Danny was one severely confused teen.
