|Searching for Truth|

4

Danny was on his bed staring up at the dark ceiling. Faint moonlight
entered through the thin fabric of the curtain of his window. It was hot
inside his room, even though there was a slight breeze blowing through his
window. Even with the breeze, Danny was sweating like crazy. He already
removed his shirt and was left in his boxer-briefs. He wasn't thinking of
the heat, he wasn't really thinking about anything. The day's events just
left him mindless. Sleep came without him ever knowing.

+

Danny was snoring lightly until the annoying alarm clock went off. At the
loud sound, Danny bolted upright, his hair defying Newton's gravity. It was
6:30 AM. He rolled his eyes and slapped the snooze button for another
precious ten minutes of sleep before school. Unfortunately for him, he hit
the clock too hard and turned off the alarm.

About another hour later, Danny opened his eyes to the blurry red numbers
of his alarm clock. 7:45 it shone. Danny's face contorted into alarm and
despair. He shot out of the bed and while he was rushing toward the
bathroom, he began peeling off his pajamas, angd by the time he reached the
bathroom, he was left in nothing but another pair of colorful boxer-briefs
and a trail of pajamas behind him. He turned the cold water on and splashed
his face with it, and to save time-even though he thought it was gross- he
just gargled some mouthwash instead of using up the precious two minutes it
would take to brush his precious teeth. He ran out the room, his face still
wet and mouthwash still burning in his mouth and began to dress. He quickly
grabbed his backpack and ran down the stairs, decided to skip breakfast,
and dashed out the door. He remembered he still had mouthwash in his
mouth. In a hurry, he spit the stuff out in some flowerbeds--his mom's
flowerbeds. He froze for a second at what he just did. He'd have to deal
with that later somehow. He had to run to school.

He did got to school. Forty five minutes late. First period was almost
done. He decided to go to first period anyway. It was better to be counted
tardy than absent. Danny walked into his first period english class and
interrupted Mr. Hamilton's intense lecture on Faulkner. The whole class
stared at him intently, thankful for a distraction, a few of the jocks
stirred with the interruption of the lecture--their music to fall asleep.

"Well... Mr. Sullivan decided to join us after all. Since you just barge in
here, interrupting my lecture on one of the greatest minds in Literature,
why don't you tell me what sets Faulkner's work apart from other authors,"
suggested Mr. Hamilton.

Danny stared at him blankly rummaging in his head for something to say.

"Well?"

"Uh... Faulkner..." Danny muttered, his eyes squinting trying to remember
something.

Crap, he thought.

"I think we know who you'll be talking about," Mr. Hamilton commented.

"His writing style... resembles that of a stream of consciousness?" Danny
asked, the phrase popping in my mind at the last minute.

Dear Almighty God, please let that be right!, Danny pleaded.

"Oh, why. Yes," Mr. Hamilton said shocked that one of his students actually
remembered Faulkner's writing style, "Well, what about this stream of
consciousness? Hm?"

Danny stared dumbly at the teacher and a few of the students snickered at a
fellow classmate's torment. It wasn't that Danny hated English Literature,
it's just that reading Faulkner is like trying to read some crazy man's
rants. He's just so hard to read.

But, the bell rang. Danny sighed with relief at his luck. The class got up
and hurried the room. Mr. Hamilton looked crestfallen at being unable to
humiliate a student. Danny turned around to go to the next class when he
felt somebody grab and squeeze his butt. Danny was shocked that
Mr. Hamilton would do something like that.

He's probably angry at me... Ohhhhhh crap, Danny thought, panic overtaking
him.

He swung around to face Mr. Hamilton, but instead saw the hazel eyes of
Aaron looking playfully at him. He was momentarily captured by the sight of
them before Mr. Hamilton cleared his throat, a sign that meant "Are you
going to get out of my room or what?"

Danny rushed out the room and headed quickly toward his next class in the
Science wing. He weaved in and out of the traffic, ignoring the greetings
from friends to try and get away from Aaron.

He practically ran inside the room and his eyes immediately began searching
for Scott, even though he knew exactly where his best friend since
elementary school would be. And there he was. Scott was looking out the
window, the sunlight falling gently upon his tender face. Danny couldn't
help but fall in love again and smile.

Scott was probably the best dressed and one of the best looking in the
whole school. His whole outfit stood out among the ordinary clothes of the
students. Scott simply said that he liked to look good. His hair had that
ruffled look and his dark blue eyes shimmered in the light like the surface
of lake. He also liked to smile a lot, revealing his pearly white teeth.
His Simply put, girls threw themselves at his mercy. The weird thing is
that he never actually had a real, genuine girlfriend. He was friendly and
nice to them, but that was it. No real relationship-- it was all platonic.

Danny quickly rushed over and plopped into the empty seat beside
Scott. Scott turned toward Danny and smiled.

"Hey, you seem out of breath. How come?" he asked curiously.

"Aw, man... I've got to tell 'ya what's happened to me the past day... Not
now though, come over later and I'll tell 'ya," Danny replied, careful not
to let anything slip.

"Okay, sure. Hey, you wanna see that new horror flick that just came
out... uh... 'The Sucker' or something? I don't know, I forgot the name,"
Scott asked.

"'The Sucker'? What the heck kind of movie is called 'The Sucker'?" Danny
asked incredulously.

"Oh, c'mon. It doesn't matter what it's called. I know how much you like
horror movies!" Scott pleaded.

"Uh, I don't like scary movies. I-"

"Doesn't matter. You're going anyway," Scott interrupted.

"WHAT?!" Danny exclaimed, "Why don't you g-"

"Hey, there. Looks like we've another class together," an all-to-familiar
voice said.

Danny quickly snapped his head to face the owner of the voice. Aaron was
standing in front of his desk. Danny mentally slapped himself about a
million times.

'WHY?!' he thought.

"Hey, I'm Scott, Danny's friend," greeted Scott.

"Hi, I'm Aaron, also Danny's friend," Aaron replied.

"Really? How come I haven't heard of him from you?" Scott asked looking at
Danny.

"That's 'cuz I'm new here. And I just met Danny yesterday under... unusual
circumstances," Aaron answered Scott.

"Class," Ms. Harrison began,"We have a new student here today at Myers
High. Luckily for him the school year just began a few weeks ago, so he
won't have to make up too much."

The class all turned their heads toward the new student and the girls began
to whisper about how handsome and good-looking the new student was and the
guys began to whisper about if he was any good at sports. The recruiting of
the new student began.

"Aaron, could you please introduce yourself to the class. Even though it is
Senior year, and you may feel like you're too old for this stuff, I still
like it. So, if you please?" Ms. Harrison requested.

Aaron smiled calmly and the girls sighed. He looked at the class and
said,"Why not? Well... I'm Aaron Rogers and I'm originally from
Houston. I'm 18 years old, a Gemini, and I like to play tennis and
football."

The whole class seemed to approve until...

"And,I absolutely love guys," Aaron stated in matter-of-fact tone while
still managing to smile.

The whole classroom fell into an eternal silence. The eyes of all the
students widened at the new kid's statement. The teacher frowned in
disapproval and Danny slapped himself again--mentally. Aaron just committed
suicide. Now, more than ever, Danny had to avoid Aaron. The whole town
would know by the end of the day.

"Please sit down over there in the corner of the room. Please,"
Ms. Harrison directed Aaron over to an isolated desk in the very back
corner of the room, usually reserved for students taking a make-up test.

Aaron happily obliged, seemingly impervious to the teacher's tone and to
the glares and stares of the class.

Scott looked over at Danny in disbelief with a look that said "you WILL
tell me everything later." Danny smiled weakly and the class began in
extreme awkwardness.

+

"Okay, dude. You need to tell me everything about this Aaron guy. 'Cuz all
I know right now is that he's gay and he's supposedly your friend. Do you
know what this could do to you? To us?!" Scott demanded.

Danny sat on his bed in silence, not looking at his interrogator. He simply
shook his head.

"Well tell how you met him!"

"I... can't," Danny answered.

"You can't? Or you don't want to?" Scott said, getting a little irritated.

Danny looked up at his best friend. He did owe it to him to at least tell
him the truth.

"We met in the rec center," Danny finally said," I left my stuff there and
he brought them over to my house. My mom had him over for dinner as
gratitude for bringing my bag over."

"And your mom doesn't know that he's... gay?" Scott asked in disbelief.

"I don't think so..." Danny replied.

Scott sat plopped down on the floor beside Danny's leg, thinking. scott's
arms were slightly rubbing against Danny's bare leg and Danny couldn't help
but pay attention to the skin-on-skin contact.

Scott slowly looked up at Danny and locked eyes with him.

Something was amiss.

Scott got on his knees running his hands up and down Danny's leg.

Something was definitely wrong here.

Scott was still looking into Danny's eyes, and Danny couldn't take his eyes
off Scott's. He was drowning in those deep blue pools. Scott moved in
between Danny leg's, inching closer and closer toward Danny's face. Scott
moved his hands across Danny's thighs and into his shorts. Scott bit his
lower lip as he moved Danny closer to him. Scott approached Danny's neck
and gently almost sensuously breathed across the sensitive skin as he
slowly moved to Danny's ear.

Danny was hypnotized. He sheer pleasure of being touched so gently,
so... passionately froze him. His best friend... How long has he waited for
this very moment. The hands on his thighs were now searching for the
entrance to his boxer briefs and the warm breath on his neck was replaced a
hot, wet tongue dancing across the nape of his neck.

Danny swallowed. Hard. He was slighty shaking. The hands finally found
their entrance and were now rubbing the outskirts of his most sensitive
area. Pressure began to build up within his pants. His breathing became
labored and he was letting it all happen.

Scott lifted his head from Danny's neck to face him. He looked deeply into
those glazed eyes looking back at him. He smiled slightly and moved his
attention down toward Danny's red and parted lips.

Danny waited. He waited for the kiss--the kiss that would make him happy.

"HEY! DANNY!!! What the heck is wrong with you?!" Danny heard a voice yell.

Danny's eyes snapped open in shock and dismay.

"Here I was talking at the foot of the bed and you doze off on me... Man. I
should slap you right now. Anyway, I need to go. We need to finish this
tomorrow--after that movie you promised me. And you better tell me
EVERYTHING or else.'Night," Scott finally said with a slap on Danny's back.

Danny silently watched his friend walk out the door. He took a deep, shaky
breath in...

"MOTHER FUCKING BITCHASS SHIT!!"
