Chapter 40

During the next week, Blake got the call he'd been dreading. Fortunately,
he'd had his cell turned off and so he hadn't had to talk to his irate
father immediately. In the message, Walter demanded that he explain why he
was leaving Bethel. A letter had come to his parents' house from the dean
complimenting him on his high grad point, expressing regret for his
decision to transfer, and wishing him well in continuing his education at
the University of Minnesota. The fact that it was addressed to Blake had
not deterred his parents from opening it and reading its contents.

"It takes a lot of effin' nerve to open my personal mail!" he exclaimed as
he paced the floor in the kitchen. "I'm an adult for God's sake. It's not
like I'm 10 years old!"

"Easy Babe, you're getting upset over something that you can't change.
Even Robbie's sensing it. I can feel him stiffening up like he does when
Gloria tries to hold him."

"Oh Robbie, Daddy Blake is sorry. He's not going to get you upset too. No
he isn't!"

Blake took Robbie in his arms and both of them seemed to relax almost
immediately. Robbie promptly filled a diaper as his way of bringing Blake
back to reality. Blake grinned and shook his head as he took the baby
upstairs. This WAS something he could change.

-----------

"I really don't know what to do," Blake said to Rob when he returned. "I'd
like to go see them and face this head-on, but I hate to go through the
drama. Whatever I do, I won't be able to change their minds or hearts.
Yet a part of me will feel like a coward if I write a letter or phone them.
They don't do anything as modern as email but that would really be
impersonal I suppose."

"Let me know how I can help you. I want to go with you if you decide to
drive up. We can take Robbie with us. He might help ease the situation.
Very few people can go on a tear when an innocent baby is present."

"I've got to think this over more. When Robbie goes down for his nap,
could we cuddle for a while? I really need to feel loved."

----------

With only a few more weeks of school left, many of the high school students
were getting antsy for summer vacation. Eric was staying pretty well
focused because Josh was a steadying influence. Despite his effervescent
Tigger-like spirit, he was a serious, grounded student. That, of course,
doesn't imply that he wasn't able to enjoy life like any teenager.

The last big push in science class for the term was another group project.
Rob was their other partner as he had been in fall term. Now that he had
his own laptop again, he was able to participate more easily. Living in
the same household made it uncomplicated for the guys to coordinate their
plans. It looked like their team was headed for another high grade in the
class.

Other projects that the guys had been doing on their own helped to fulfill
class obligations and lessen the stress of the last part of the term. Eric
was able to use the "nursery rhyme" and the short discussion about
armadillos for part of the final project in his writing class. Josh turned
in the illustrations as a component of his art class final. Rob used
sections of the diary he kept about Robbie for his parenting class.

----------

Garret and Luc were spending quite a bit of time together "studying for
finals" because they had track in common. Garret's parents were pleased
that he had another friend who was into sports. They thought it was good
for him to hang around with athletes because those kinds of guys tended to
be 100 percent masculine.

Luc's mother wasn't convinced that they were studying that diligently. She
suspected that their friendship might be something more than sports related
and platonic, but didn't say anything to let the boys know what she
thought. After nearly losing her firstborn son, she wasn't about to mess
up her relationship with her second son or any of her children for that
matter.

Dylan was trying to hang out with Garret again since breaking up with
Marissa. He felt somewhat guilty about having neglected his best friend
for the past several months. Now he was kind of an outsider because Garret
seemed to have developed other relationships in the mean time. Dylan
wasn't jealous or bitter, but he had learned a lesson about maintaining
friendships and not letting one person monopolize his time.

----------

Blake got another phone call from his parents when he was at work. This
time, he answered without checking who it was from because he was expecting
a call from Rob. His mother seemed sweet and calm as she spoke. She
invited him to come up on Saturday for lunch, suggesting that it would be
good to have him all to themselves.

Blake told her that he wouldn't be able to make it until around 1:30 or
2:00. (He actually could have arrived by noon, but he didn't think he'd
have an appetite given how things would probably play out.)

When he told Rob about it after he got home, Rob was adamant that he should
not go alone.

"I don't like it! Something seems fishy to me. Your mother was all
friendly and implied that they didn't want you to bring anyone with you.
After the ranting your father did, it doesn't seem wise to be alone with
them. I think we should ask Eric and Josh to go with us and maybe I should
leave Robbie at home with his grandfathers."

Josh and Eric quickly agreed that Blake should have several people in his
corner to help keep his parents at bay. They talked to Ben and Scott about
it over dinner.

"I almost feel like there should be another adult along," Ben said. "I'm
not suggesting that you guys can't handle it on your own, and having one of
us might be like a fifth wheel. But I do worry about what Blake's father
could do. Has he ever become violent? Is there any chance that he could
go postal?"

"He's never done anything vicious as far as I know," Blake answered. "He
isn't a member of any right-wing militia group or anything. He does tend
to rant and rave, but that's where it ends. I have to admit that I don't
mind having the other guys to support me. I'm not looking forward to this
other than to have it over!"

"If your father isn't prone to violence, I guess neither of us has to go
along," Ben agreed. "And we'll be delighted to entertain our favorite
grandson."

----------

The guys decided to make a road trip out of the 220 mile roundtrip. They
left fairly early so that they could check out a couple of lakes on the way
up. It was never too soon to scope out places for a possible summer
weekend outing.

Although they would like to have taken Eric's convertible, Rob's Beamer was
much more comfortable for four people. Besides, the day turned out to be
cool and cloudy – not perfect weather for having the top down anyway.

Both of the lakes they visited looked like prime places to canoe and camp
for a leisurely weekend. Josh assured Rob that Robbie would be welcome to
join them to see how he tolerated it. If he didn't like it, it wouldn't be
a particularly long drive back home.

They ate lunch shortly after 12:00. Everyone but Blake was hungry. He was
too much on edge to enjoy the small sandwich that he ordered.

----------

Blake frowned at the sight of an unfamiliar car in his parent's driveway.
He told the other guys to stay in the car while he investigated the
situation.

"The rest of you lie low unless I need you. I'm going to make this really
quick."

"No, I'm going in with you. We're in this together for better or worse!"
Rob insisted.

"Okay Babe. I love you."

Blake rang the bell and stepped back on the open porch waiting to see who
would answer. Two men came to the door with Walter. Ursula was nowhere in
sight. This was not a good omen!

"Who is this punk?" his father demanded, looking at Rob. "Your mother told
you to come alone."

"This is my boyfriend, Rob. Please address him with respect." Blake
answered softly. "I love him with all my heart. I came to tell you to
your face that I'm gay. I'm not going to hide who I am anymore."

"I knew it! Pastor Hillman and Elder McBride are here to cure you of that.
I suspected you were queer when you went to that church. Pastor Hillman
looked it up on the Internet. He knows what an evil place it is."

"Walt, you take care of this kid and we'll tend to your son," Pastor
Hillman instructed him. "I will call on the mighty power of God to make
them do as we ask. We will cast the devil out of Blake."

Rob snickered at the absurd gestures that accompanied the minister's
statements. This man looked like someone on "Saturday Night Live" doing a
parody of a religious nut. How could the man take himself seriously?

"You should tremble in my presence, boy! I am like the prophet Elisha.
You do not know what will befall you if I curse you in the name of the
Lord! In Second Kings we read how 42 small boys were mauled by two she
bears that God sent to hurt them because they mocked His anointed one
calling him `baldy'."

"The God I believe in is merciful," Rob insisted. "He would not harm
little boys even if they acted like smartasses. I don't take all of those
Old Testament stories seriously. Besides, you take yourself WAY too
seriously!"

"Infidel! Who will deliver you? You are in our power. God will smite
you!"

The minister and the elder grabbed Blake roughly by the shoulders trying to
force him into the house as he struggled to extricate himself from their
grasp. As Rob jumped out of the Mr. Ault's reach, he pushed the panic
button on his car key. Eric and Josh bolted out of the Beamer and ran
toward the house looking as menacing as two wholesome teenagers could.
Pastor Hillman suddenly didn't look as self-confident as he had. The wind
went out of him almost like he'd been kicked in the groin. (In fact, Blake
had landed a quick, sharp snap in that region with his knuckles during the
short altercation.) When Hillman recovered his breath, he tried to take
control of the situation.

"Shut off that alarm, boy. We don't want the whole neighborhood involved."

"That's exactly what we do want," Rob grinned triumphantly.

"We can settle this inside without other people staring at us," Hillman
suggested.

"Hey everyone, come over here." Rob called to the people who had come out
to investigate the noise. "These men want to take my friend against his
will! That's amounts to kidnapping. If they don't let him go, I want
someone to call the police."

"I'm Bill Ford and I'm a county deputy," one man spoke up. "What seems to
be the problem here?"

The next few minutes sounded rather chaotic as everyone tried to outshout
everyone else in order to tell their side of the story. The deputy finally
told them all to shut up. He allowed Blake's father to begin.

After several minutes of listening to Walter rant about the Devil and the
evils of homosexuality, Mr. Ford told him to be quiet and asked Blake to
tell his side. Blake was low-key, precise, and rational in his recounting
of the incident. He explained that he was an adult and did not live with
his parents anymore. He had come to tell them why he had changed colleges
and to come out to them about his sexual orientation. His father had
called him a sinner and was intent on "having the devil cast out of him".

"This young man has a valid complaint. You've admitted that you were going
to force him to do something that he doesn't want to do. If he wants to
press charges, I'll be required to arrest the three of you. You cannot
hold him against his will for whatever reason. His orientation is none of
your business and it's not something that needs curing," the deputy said.
"I'll bet you saw `The Exorcist' and mistook it for reality. It's a movie,
guys!"

"We will pursue this matter another day!" Pastor Hillman shouted. "You
haven't heard the last of me."

Deputy Ford frowned and turned to Rob.

"You're obviously of Italian descent. May I ask where your family
originated?"

"Sicily," Rob answered wondering why the shift in subjects.

"I'll bet you have a `godfather' who looks after you, right?"

"Yeah, Cousin Angelo is my godfather. He would never let any harm come to
me, if that's what you mean. I guess I should call him to keep an eye on
things." Rob said, catching onto what the officer was trying to do.

"It's nice for FAMILY to stay in touch when there's a problem," the deputy
nodded.

"He's threatening me with the mafia!" Pastor Hillman shouted. "Arrest
him!"

"We were just discussing the close ties that some old-world families
maintain," Deputy Ford smiled. "No one is threatening anyone. But I WOULD
leave these young men alone if I were you.

So, do you want to press charges young man?"

"No, but I would like your address and phone number so I can give them to
my lawyer in case I need a witness in the future. If my father or these
men attempt to kidnap me, we might need you to testify about their intent."

"No problem. Here's my card."

"Blake, I'm so sorry about this whole thing! They made me call you and
lure you here," his mother said as she emerged from the open front door.
"I've been thinking a lot about everything and I don't believe that you're
evil. Your father and I have argued about it on and off since Easter."

"Be quiet and get back in the house, woman!" Walter demanded. "Have you
forgotten that it's a wife's place to obey her husband? You made a vow 23
years ago!"

"I'm not going back in the house – ever – except to pack! You are a
harsh, unreasonable man. After all these years of putting up with your
demands, I'm through. Lord knows I've tried to be a good wife, but you've
turned into a nut! I'm going to my sister's in Brainard while I file for
divorce."

"And just how are you going to get there? You can't use either of the cars
because they're in my name and I'll have you arrested for grand theft if
you take one of them. You have nothing!"

"Mrs. Ault, we'll be happy to take you there," Rob offered. "It's not very
far out of our way and we have no luggage. The trunk's fairly roomy so
you're welcome to bring whatever you can get in there. We can help carry
what you want and no one will stop you with this kind deputy around."

"It's wrong for you to do this!" the minister cried in an attempt to stop
her.

"Mom, don't listen to him! You have a right to live your own life just
like I do. I'll help in whatever way I can." Blake said as he hugged his
tearful mother.

"Thanks Son and thank you too young man. I'm going to do it."

-----------

The trip home took longer than it would have, but the guys were pleased to
have helped Blake's mother. Her sister welcomed her with open arms saying
that it was high time she got away from her domineering husband.

The guys had called Ben and Scott with some of the details so that they
wouldn't worry. Even though Blake's aunt had insisted on feeding them an
afternoon snack, they would be home in time for dinner. Blake was thankful
for something to eat because he was starved now that his stress level had
been lowered.

Rob was relieved to know that Robbie was asleep so he wasn't missing that
much time with his little boy. He was looking forward to the end of school
when he would have more time to enjoy his role as father.

On the way home, Rob asked Blake to hand him a new CD that he'd purchased
the day before thinking that one of the songs was apropos to Blake's
situation. It was on an album by Shinedown called "The Sound of Madness".
The track that he chose was "Second Chance".

Blake listened to the lyrics with tears in his eyes. Partway into the
song, he could understand why Rob had chosen to buy it for him and he loved
him for it.

Tell my mother, tell my father I've done the best that I can

      To make them realize

This is my life I hope they understand

I'm not angry, I'm just saying...

Sometimes goodbye is a second chance.*

----------

Rob would have to go to school fairly early on Monday, but that wasn't
going to change his plans. He and Blake had both recently received the
news that they were free of any sexually transmitted diseases. Tonight, he
was going to make love with Blake more intimately than they ever had.

They showered, separately, before turning in for the night. Blake assumed
that Rob was avoiding getting horned up so that he would get a good night's
sleep. Therefore, he put on sleeping shorts after his shower. He was
surprised to find Rob's room lit by candles and perfumed by a hint of
burning incense when he returned.

"You need your sleep, Babe," Blake whispered, secretly hoping that Rob
wouldn't listen to him.

"I need you!" Rob responded. "I want to celebrate `us'! Come over here
and let me rip those shorts off of you."

"Yes Lover," Blake said as he walked to Rob's side of the bed.

Moments later, Blake was transported by the sensation of Rob's eager tongue
bathing his balls and perineum. If this kept up much longer, he was going
to spew.

"This is your night," Rob said. "What would you like to do best? I'm
ready for you to take my cherry if you want it."

"You know that I want it, but I don't think this is the time. What I want
most tonight is to feel you inside of me. I want to take your hot load."

"Your wish is my command, Babe."

Rob was becoming a more experienced lover. He concentrated on foreplay
until both were dripping copious amounts of precum. Blake felt like every
inch from his neck to his groin had been kissed, tongued, or sucked before
Rob's steely young cock entered him gently.

Blake received that perfect piece of flesh without any discomfort. His
only feelings were love, lust, and pure pleasure. Rob moved around in a
kind of stirring motion that stimulated all the right places. He didn't
let himself thrust like a jackhammer until Blake begged him to do so.

>From that point on, both guys headed quickly for bliss. Rob gave a
gasping cry of joy as he unloaded a large quantity of jizz. Before he was
even finished, he felt Blake's cum spurting between them.

Blake grabbed his discarded shorts to wipe up the bulk of the mess. Then
he cuddled against Rob's back and both fell into a deep, restful sleep.
