Although this is my first story I've wrote, I have published other stories on here and am currently working on one. Mr. Shuler. Despite the first day incident and the more than average detention threats for talking, we've been pretty good in there. "Sit down, everyone. I have an assignment to give you for the hour. You all will be filling out the periodic table. Listing each element's charge, derivation, and if it is a metal, nonmetal, or semimetal." Obviously Jen and I were sitting side by side. "Ms. Richards, I would like it if you would sit on the other side of the room." Obviously he would say that. Jen picked up her stuff and moved clear across the room. Before she sat down she yelled across the room to Mr. Shuler, "IS THIS FAR ENOUGH!" Let's just say Jen doesn't take orders too well. "Yes that is Ms. Richards. But if you yell once more I will make sure you stay with me all of next week." "OKAY!" Everyone laughed under their breathe when Jen shouted this time. Mr. Shuler's face turned at least three shades of red before he calmed himself down and went to his desk to write her up. While he wasn't looking I gave Jen a big thumbs up and she started laughing like an idiot. I swear she doesn't know how to laugh quietly. After about 10 minutes, Cole entered the room. "It's nice to see you decided to show up Mr...." he looked at his roster, "Nolan." "Yeah, yeah whatever. Give me my work so I can sit down." Mr. Shuler gave Cole his work. For some odd reason Mr. Shuler was actually very fond of Cole, despite the fact that Mr. Shuler is super strict and Cole is rebellious. Cole scanned the room to find a seat. I swear when he saw I was in here he was about to come beat the shit out of me or laugh at me. But he kept looking. What happened next shocked me. "Hey, babe! What are you doing in here?" Cole was looking directly at Jen. This couldn't be happening. "Umm...hey Cole." She said looking sadly over at me. "So I take it you never told him?" "Told me what?" I asked. The whole class was watching this as if it were a TV show. "Jen and I are dating. I asked her to be my girlfriend right after the first day of school." This is impossible. I explained everything to Jen right after school. She was so pissed at him. Maybe that's why he hasn't said anything to him. Maybe his girlfriend told him to back off. Who was I kidding with actually thinking things were getting better? Things are never good for me. Cole laughed. "He's speechless, babe!" He said arrogantly. "Maybe he's happy for us!" "Back off of him, Cole!" Jen said to him. "But babe..." "He's my friend and you're going to be nice to him!" "No!" I yelled out. I could tell the class was into this. Hell even Mr. Shuler was acting like one of them. "We're not friends, Jennifer! You know how much I hate him and you turn around and date him? What kind of friend does that! That would be like me dating Justin!" Justin is her most recent ex. He almost raped her. Luckily she was able to call the cops before he could get her pants off. "This is nothing like that, Shawn!" "Cole almost made me go to the hospital! He hates my fucking guts! You're going to have to pick between me and him!" The whole room was silent. I could see that Jen was thinking. "You know what? Fuck you, Jen! If you have to think about having this asshole over your best friend of 9 years then I don't need you!" I stormed out of the classroom. The last thing that I heard was Mr. Shuler telling me I was going to have a different detention teacher for the rest of the month. Why in hell would I care? As long as I was away from that bitch and her boyfriend I would be okay. I stopped dead in my tracks. I just realized that my best friend of 9 years was not even my friend anymore. Without her I wouldn't even have realized I was gay. I would have been that weird kid trying to date girls and never succeeding and realizing I was gay when the time was too late. Jen was my everything and now she's nothing. I felt a hand on my shoulder. "Hey I was on my way to practice when I heard you shouting. Are you okay?" It was Leo. "No." "Will you tell me what's wrong?" "Jen has been my best friend since kindergarten and I just found out that she is dating Cole even though he decked me on the first day this year and made my middle school years a living hell. I just lost the most important person in my life to the person who hates me the most." Leo hugged me. I hugged him back. "Don't worry Shawn. I don't think Avery hates you the most out of everyone on this school." It took me a while to get what he meant. I wanted to laugh but I was too sad to do anything. "Fuck you!", that was the only thing I could say. Leo held me closer and laughed. "I've never lost a friend to my arch nemesis so I'm not sure how it feels. But I want you to know I'll never leave you. Even if Avery says I'll have to, I'll end it with him because I refuse to lose my best buddy like that." I looked him in the eyes. "You promise you'll never leave me?" "I promise." The most gorgeous smile I had ever seen was right in front of me. I wanted to cry because Leo was just so sweet. But instead, I kissed him. At first he was shocked but after about a half a second he was kissing back. I can't believe my first kiss and my best kiss was with my friend who has a boyfriend. After our lips separated, I rested my head on his chest and we slowly swayed back and forth in the hallway. It felt like an hour had passed since we kissed but it had only been about 5 minutes. "I thought you didn't like me like that." He said. "I don't know what came over me. I do like you like that but I don't want to act upon those feelings because you have a boyfriend, Leo." "I understand. So are we still going to be friends?" "Of course. But we have to keep that kiss as out little secret." "Our dirty little secret." He smiled that smile again. I kissed him once again.
