PREVIOUSLY ON ST JOHN'S EVE: After a steamy night with Rusałek, Michał
is faced with a fresh horror: a group of village children is kidnapped by a
malicious force, to which Rusałek refers as Baba Yaga. The two, with
help of Damian, Marcin Adam and Tomasz try to find out where the missing
children are. However a new demon isn't a piece of cake. The strange power
that awakens within Damian seems to be the only reason why they lived to
see another day...

Days of the Witch /part II/

NIGHT; DEEP IN THE WOODS

Wlodek woke up with a splitting headache. He was laying besides Adam on the
wooden floor of a darkened room, which he didn't recognize. He was
terrified for some reason and felt hungry. He sat up and started shaking
Adam's arm.

'Hey, wake up! Wake up!'

'What? What's the matter?' - mumbled Adam with his eyes closed.

'I don't know! We are in some stranger's house! Will you get up already?'

'Okay, okay. - replied Adam, a bit groggy. He rubbed his eyes and furrowed
his brows - Where the hell are we?'

As much as he would like to tell him (or know himself, for that matter),
there was no way to tell where they were, since there was not a single
window in the room.

'I have no idea. The single thing I know, is that I'm famished.' - said
Wlodek as grumbling in his stomach confirmed his words.

'Yeah, me too. Maybe we should try to force the door open?'

'We aren't strong enough. I don't think I can even stand up!'

'Don't worry, I'll deal with it.' - said Adam.

Wlodek could hear him standing up, walking to the wall and looking for the
door. He smiled with pride. Ever since he was six they were best friends,
or even something more. Even though Adam was eight months younger than him,
Wlodek always looked up to him and treated him like he would treat his
older brother.

'I found the door! - exclaimed Adam - move aside, and we'll soon be free!'

But as he said it, the room was finally lit up. Out of nowhere appeared a
table with all kinds of sweets they could imagine. They both freezed in
amazement.

'What the hell? Where all this food came from? And the light?' - wondered
Adam.

'It's just like in those fairy tales that we've read, where Baba Yaga
fattened up children to eat them!'

Despite the situation they were in, Adam chuckled.

'Are you serious dude? What are you, a little kid?'

'Don't call me a little kid! I'm nine! And if it's not magic, then how will
you explain what just happened?'

'I don't know, but magic just doesn't exist! And I'm so hungry.' - said
Adam, making a step towards the table.

'No, wait! What if it's poisoned?'

'Oh, you chicken. It's not! If they want to fatten us, they won't poison
it!'

'Oh, so all of a sudden, you do believe in magic?' - Wlodek raised his brow
and folded his arms.

'I believe that someone kidnapped us. If they kidnapped us, they want
money. If they want money, they have to keep us alive. So the food isn't
poisoned.'

Wlodek's stomach found this reasoning extremely credible. Both boys jumped
up to the table and started stuffing their mouth like there was no
tomorrow.

DAWN; MICHAL'S ROOM

Me and Rusalek are sitting, pressed tightly together, as my cum ejects deep
into his body. He groans lustfully into my lips as we kiss. Then I drag
him back down on the bed and we share small kisses as our orgasm fades
away. Then he rolls of me. I lay for few seconds, staring blankly at the
ceiling. Then I turn to my side and say to him:

'Please, remind me, why have I agreed to do this?'

'You know that it's the best way to handle things.'

Of course we aren't talking about what just happened, but rather about the
crazy plan that Rusaek came up with and I agreed to put in the motion.

To make long story short, we're planning to set up a trap for a monster,
using Marcin and Tomasz as a bait. Since we know that every person I had
sex with was harmed in a way, we decided that it would be much easier to
have a creature come to us, instead of looking for it.

At first, I was obviously bewildered by such a dangerous idea. But then
Rusalek started talking about how useful it was in finding Baba Yaga.

'You used Damian and the rest as a bait? You mean we didn't need them to
come?'

'It was your idea to let them come, Master. And it appears that Damian is
much stronger than we could expect.'

'O yeah - I remembered - What was it, that he did?'

'i'm not sure, Master. It was some sort of power. One I've never witnessed
before.'

'Power? Like magic?'

'Maybe... But there was something weird about it. It was like a tremor in
reality. You should be safe with him, as long as you're on his good side!'
- he said and we both laughed.

'Okay, so what's the plan?' - I ask.

'My plan is to collect some of Marcin's and Tomasz's hair, or...'

'No blood this time!' - I warn.

'You're no fun, Master. Do you remember what are you supposed to do?'

'Yeah, convince Damian to go back to the woods this evening, find witch and
destroy her. Piece of cake.'

In the morning I meet with Damian for our morning run. We agreed to resume
it, since there wasn't as much police searching the wood as there was
yesterday. I guess they turned to other leads, if there were any... Anyway,
this time we decide to take a longer route, since we got much better at
running since we've started. All the time while running, I'm afraid that we
will wander into the witch domain once again, and surprised that Damian
seems to remember yesterday's events only to the point when we've found a
strange hut in the forest. This should make convincing him to going there a
lot easier. Once we sit down to rest, I ask him:

'We had some nice adventure, yesterday, haven't we?'

'I don't know... It was weird. I thought I knew this forest in and out!'

'Yeah, I asked my grandparents about it. - I choose to lie - They haven't
heard of a hut in the forest either. But don't you think it's just great?'

'I watched enough horrors to think otherwise.' - chuckled Damian.

'This year there are only two Fridays 13s and both in the winter.'

'That's only one psycho out of the list.'

'The only psycho in that village is Lukasz. And he doesn't live in the
forest. To think of it, I haven't seen him in a while...'

'He takes part time jobs to add to his father's benefits. It all goes to
booze anyway.'

'Jesus, no wonder he's so pissed off all the time!'

'That's not it. He was just born an asshole.'

'You really don't like him.'

'He doesn't like me either. He bullies everyone back at school and nothing
justifies it.'

'Okay, so if he's busy, he won't be getting in our way for a while. Let's
go and look for the hut this evening.'

He thinks for a while and then says.

'Okay, but I'm not doing the convincing part. The rest of the guys didn't
look too happy about yesterday.'

'Rysiek wasn't thrilled either. Let them play together.'

Damian hesitates again.

`Can I be honest with you?'

`Sure! What, you don't like him?'

`He just seems so weird. Like he was an actor, or something.'

`Yeah, he's a bit pretentious, he is always like this with new people. But,
just between us, he pisses me off too.'

Damian smiles, while I realise, that I had to lie. In fact, during the last
two weeks, I've grown quite fond of this uninvited guest.

AFTERNOON; IN THE VILLAGE

Rusałek was having a great time. Watching humans, that didn't have the
slightest idea of his real nature, was relaxing. Especially after being
under constant suspicion from Michal. Their admiration reminded him of old
days when demons were feared, worshipped and offered sacrifices. What
followed, was a constant demotion and increasing misery. Mankind learned to
build fortresses of stone and no longer feared darkness and
wilderness. Then, their lack of faith turned into disrespect and then into
shameless exploitation. The demons were herded into their dimension and so
weak, that they couldn't transgress the boundary between worlds, unless
someone summoned them. And even there, they were subdued to their
masters. But now he wasn't with Michal. He could show those two humans,
what he was capable of.

`So, what do you guys do, to have fun?' - he asked them, after the two gave
him the tour around the village.

`Nothing much - replied Marcin after exchanging a glance of embarrassment
with his friend - Usually we play computer games, play football, or just
sort of hang out.'

`Do you like pranks?' - asked Rusałek, with sly grin.

`Yeah, but just between friends.' - said Tomasz.

`Yeah. I'd never do anything to Łukasz. He's too scary. He'd totally
take it out on us.'

It was just the answer he was expecting.

`What if you could prank him in a way, that he won't be able to tell who
did it? What if you could make it look like an accident?'

`What do you mean?' - said Marcin, furrowing his brows.

`First you have to promise me, that you won't tell anyone, and I mean
anyone, about what I'm about to do.'

`Okay.' - they spoke in unison.

`Let's shake on it.'

Rusałek, spat on his hand and held it out. After a moment of hesitation,
Marcin and Tomasz did the same and shook his hand. Rusałek immediately
put a hand in his pocket. What fell out of it, looked like a spoonful of
dust. Meanwhile, boys were busy wiping their hands on their trousers.

`So, where does this Łukasz live?'

`Come on, we'll show you.'

The three of them walked along side of the road that lead through the
village, then took turn left and took the bypath. It lead them to the hovel
surrounded with unkempt lawn, and a fence that was falling apart. The only
signs of life were coming from a rough kennel, where bony dog was fumbling
on a chain and barking at them monotonously.

`What a ruin!' - commented Rusałek. Compared to this, his Master's house
was almost like a palace.

`His father is drunk most of the time - informed him Tomasz - that's why
his wife left him and Łukasz.'

`Even his own mother didn't like this asshole enough to take him with her.'

`Really? I've heard that she met another guy and he didn't want a kid that
wasn't his.'

`Yeah, because he is an asshole.'

With that established, boys guided Rusałek to a small bush that hid the
three from the eyes of whomever would show up on the path.

`If you wanna pull off your prank, then now is the time. - said Marcin -
Łukasz should be coming back from his part-time job any minute.'

As predicted, they saw him closing on his bicycle, with his eyes focused on
the road. Rusałek wasted no time. He picked up a pebble from the ground
and thrown it at the wheel of the closing vehicle. With a pinch of magic he
adjusted trajectory and boosted the impact of a projectile. The chain stood
no chance as it was penetrated and broken. The bicycle zigzagged on the
path and then fell over.

The boys shoved their fists into their mouth to suppress the
laughter. Rusałek looked at them with a devilish grin and pressed a
finger to his mouth to let them know that the show was far from being
over. Then he ran out of the thicket towards Łukasz, who was still on
the ground, holding his knee.

`Hey buddy, are you okay?' - he shouted, running up to him and reaching out
his hand to help him stand up.

`Does it look like I'm okay, moron?' - barked Łukasz, but accepted his
help.

`Uh, this scratch on your knee looks bad. I'm Rysiek by the way.' -
Rusałek pulled him up a bit too strong, and their chests
bumped. Łukasz jumped back and looked over him.

`Get away from me, faggot. And I'll be just fine. Beat it.' - said
Łukasz and after he collected broken chain and a bicycle, he walked
home, limping. Meanwhile, Rusałek rejoined Marcin and Tomasz.

`What a rude guy he is.'

`We already told you. What did you expect? And why did you even help him?'
- asked Tomasz.

`Help him? I don't think so. - he grinned at them and showed them a roll of
money, that he had sneaked out of Łukasz's pocket - Now he is in
trouble. And he doesn't know me so he'll never figure out what happened.'

Marcin and Tomasz looked a bit confounded, almost as if it was a bit too
much for a prank in their consideration. But that didn't last long. Soon
the three was waiting, with evil smiles, keeping their eyes fixed on a
Łukasz's house. After about five minutes, they feasted their ears on a
row they heard between the boy and his father. Then they were treated to
even more satisfying view as they saw Łukasz with tears in his eyes,
frantically searching for the money he thought he lost while falling
down. To ensure a safety of their hideout, Rusałek confused him into
thinking that the bushes they were hiding in were a stone.

`So, what are you guys planning to spend your share on?' - asked
Rusałek, after they've seen Łukasz come back to his house
empty-handed.

`Aren't we going to return the money?' - asked Marcin, clearly bothered by
his conscious.

`How would you even do that? - asked Tomasz matter-of-factly - I think no
one punched you in the face for too long and you miss the feeling.'

`No, seriously, we shouldn't have taken that money. He earned it, and it
makes us thieves.'

`It makes us even with this fucker, for all the bullying. Come on, it's
only his weekly wage!'

`Even? More like lower ourselves to his level. Are you really okay with
that?' - asked Marcin, folding his arms.

Tomasz gave Rusałek a knowing glance, a call for help in this argument.

`How can you say that, Marcin? Do you really think it makes you better to
let him make you miserable? Everyone who makes others suffer deserves a
revenge.'

`Yeah, this fucko should taste his own medicine for once. - added Tomasz -
Do you remember that time when he and his buddies thrown you into a garbage
container and didn't let you out for fifteen minutes?'

Marcin frowned at him for revealing such an embarrassing story in front of
the outsider. Nevertheless he seemed to be reconsidering.

`Okay then. But let's not do this in future. And I want my share of money
right now.'

His companions assured him that it was just this one time and the money
were shared. As the sky darkened, they walked back with satisfaction
written all over their faces.

DUSK; DEEP IN THE WOODS

For the most part of our stroll towards the forest we are chatting about
nothing in particular, just to keep our minds of off something that seems
to us like an utter absurdity. On Damian's part, he must be thinking I'm
some sort of megalomaniac. After all even the police wasn't able to find
those kids. What could teenegers like us do, that they didn't, right? And
for me it feels stupid, because I'm setting up my friend, no, my love as a
bait for a cruel and unpredictable creature. Who am I to throw about
someone's life like that? Just as we enter the line of threes, I feel a
sudden urge to turn around and forget about saving those kids. Who are they
anyway? Why the fuck do I care so much? On the other hand I've been there
yesterday and I know exactly what I saw. There is no denying. Whether he is
aware of it, or isn't, Damian possesses some sort of power that can be
crucial to saving lives. We have to try, even if the risk is present.

As I'm about to take a turn left, just as we did yesterday, Damian stops me
and shakes his head and points ahead.

`We should go this way. `

`But we turned left at those crossroads before. You even complained about
it, remember?'

`Yeah - Damian says, seeming confused with himself - but it's like forest
has changed... Look, it's just kind of a hunch. I can't quite explain it.'

`Well, we might as well try it out.' - I shrug my shoulders and follow
him. When everyone around me seem to gain some superpowers, who am I to
question their hunches?

As we're walking, I'm checking Damian for anything that may be out of
order, and I actually notice something. Except for the times when we are
talking about something serious or something is bothering him, a faint
smile is always lingering on Damian's lips. And now it's gone. He is
completely silent with his eyes fixed on something across from us. To add
to the weirdness, he seems to know exactly where we should go, although
he's choosing completely different paths than Rusałek did, like he has a
map in his head. What is more terrifying and amazing at the same time, he
seems to be right, as the rickety threes with creepy dolls are appearing
more and more frequently. I tremble involuntarily at the menace that we are
approaching.

`Are we closing to the hut?' - I ask, just to break the unbearable silence,
but Damian doesn't answer. He just keeps moving forward, as if he was
pulled by an invisible leash. By this time I get goosebumps and feel even
more awkward than before speaking. Besides, my question isn't left
unanswered for a long time. After wandering for a bit more we end up on the
same glade, where we found Baba Yaga's hut before.

`Okay, so what now?' - I ask and glance over at Damian.

What I see, pushes out a scream out of my lungs. My friend is bent so far
back that he seems to be about to break in half. What's worse, there is a
trickle of blood running from corners of his eyes, ears and nostrils. His
pupils are rolled back. He is wheezing, breathing hardly and frothing. What
the fuck is going on?

`COME DEMON, SUCCUMB TO YOUR MASTER. COME AND KNEEL BEFORE ME, I COMMAND
YOU!' - Damian's mouth are moving but the voice isn't his. It's somber,
dark and deep, like oblivion itself and seems to be coming from
elsewhere. To my amazement I realize I'm sitting on the ground. I want to
stand up, but can't, pinned down to the ground by paralysing fear.

Then there it is again. Tall, cloaked silhouette with red burning eyes and
two monstrous clawed hands hanging down is levitating over the ground, as
Damian is straightening up. Suddenly the strength comes back to my limbs,
and I start frantically crawl away towards the threes.

The outburst of light draws my attention and makes me roll over to see
what's happening behind me. Baba Yaga holds both hands up, creating a ball
of fire out of thin air, and then throws it at Damian. I scream again, but
he only holds out his hand and roaring ball of flame is evaporated, just
like it never existed.

`HOW DARE YOU OPPOSE ME, YOU PIECE OF TRASH!' - shouts that otherworldly
voice again.

Then strangest thing happens. Damian jumps forward at the height, length
and speed impossible for a human being to achieve. He grabs the head of the
creature and releases some kind of energy that demonstrates itself as rays
of black light. Baba Yaga is screeching and backing off, as Damian lands
safely on his feet. Yet the fight isn't over. The witch is trying to
attack him with its claws, but Damian is dodging as if he was able to
predict demon's moves. And he is not only recreating. He is blasting
projectiles that hit Baba Yaga every time. I am scared shitless, but I have
to admit, he looks totally awesome.

But something appears to go wrong. Alk the hits seem to miss vital spots,
wherever they were. Despite his power, Damian, or rather whatever possessed
him, needed my help. I'm feeling around with my hands and find a long
stick. After mustering any courage I had left in me, I stood up and run up
to Baba Yaga. Damian seems to guess my intention and hits the creature with
another blast of energy that sends it just above the ground. Not wanting to
waste that chance, I jump up and smother it with the stick, so that it
can't move away.

`Hurry up and finish it. I don't know how long I can last!'

My friend walks up to us. There is something wicked and evil about his
smile. I hope never to see it again.

Once he stands before us, the dreadful voice sounds again.

`THAT IS YOUR END. GO BACK TO THE BOTTOM OF HELL, WHERE YOU BELONG.' - and
with that Damian places his hand over Baba Yaga's eyes. It's scream is so
loud, that my eardrums are about to break.

Suddenly, my vision blurrs out and despite all the noise I can hear clearly
howling dogs and somebody's voice sounding like it was coming from
somewhere far away in time.

`Do it, they're just some stupid strays. Nobody's gonna miss them.'

I'm thrown back into reality by the feeling of burning pain in my chest. I
feel a pain in my knees and realise that while having my vision, I have
fallen to all fours. I quickly look around. Everything seems to be back to
normal. Forest looks like it's supposed to, with green trees and birds
flying around. The sky is lit orange by the rays of the setting sun. Baba
Yaga's hut is gone. Instead, around a tree trunk I can see a group of
sleeping kids. Then I look the other way and see Damian laying on the
ground, sensless.

I quicly crawl up in his direction. His face is much more pale than
usually. The trails of saliva and blood are still visible on his face. The
view literally brings tears to my eyes. I'm desperatly trying to shake him
awake, as I refuse to even consider the possibility of him being dead.

To my relief, he blinks twice, inhales deeply and then looks at me.

`Why are you crying?'

`That's because I'm looking at you, and you look like shit.' - I burst into
sightly hysterical laughter.

`Then I hope you don't have mirrors back at your place.'

`You lost your consciousness for a moment. - I explain - Do you think you
can walk?'

`Let's see about that.' - he repiles and sits up. Instantly he covers his
eyes with his hand, a clear sign of experiencing a vertigo. Scared, I
support him, by grabbing his shoulders from behind.

`Are you sure you should try this? You don't seem to be in shape.'

`No, it's fine. It happens to me sometimes when I try to get up too
quickly. Sometimes I even get a nosebleeds. Go and see about these kids. It
seems that we've found what we were looking for.'

`Are you sure you gonna be ok?'

`Yes mom, I'm sure. Go, I'll join you in a minute.'

I walk up to the group of seven kids, judging by their looks they are aged
from seven to eleven years old. There is something strangely beautiful and
terrifying about them sleeping with delicate smiles on their faces. I
hunker down by the chubby boy with dark curly hair that seems strangely
familiar. I shake him awake. As he opens his eyes, he gasps and looks
around in panic.

`W-where am I? What have you done to us? What happened to Adam?'

`Hey, hey, buddy, calm down. I came here to help you. What's your name?'

`My name is Wlodek. What happened to Adam and the other kids?'

I deduce that this Adam must be the brown haired kid that is still sound
asleep next to him. Only now I'm realising that I actually saw the two at
the festival held on the night when I found the Flower of Fern.

`Wlodek, listen to me. This is very important that you stay calm. My name
is Michal. Me and my friend Damian have been looking for all of you for two
days. We don't know who took you away, but we think that you have been
given drugs that made you see things that aren't there.

`Like witches? And ghosts?'

`Yes, for example. Is that what you saw?'

`Yeah, and it seemed so real... I'm still kind of scared.' - he looked
ashamed of himself for admitting it.

`Wlodek, I'm going to need your help.'

`Really?'

`Really. I need to see if Damian is all right. Can you wake up the other
kids?'

`Sure, I can do it.' - replies kid and gives me a cute smile.

Back to Damian, he's already on his feet, but he looks terrible with blood
clots on his face. I advise him to use a grass to clean it off, as I don't
want him to scare the kids.

Once everyone is ready to go, we set out to leave the woods. Although this
adventure has come to an end, there are even more questions arising. And I
was in desperate need of answers.
