Strength Because Of You
By Daven
Chapter One -- If you only knew
Damn! I was the new kid in school. My father had gotten transferred in his
job and I found myself being packed up to be shipped off to a new city and
home. My security that I prided myself in, knowing what was expected of me
and where I stood in the social monopoly of my life was ripped right from
under me. You don't know how hard it can be to be the "new kid".
When I first showed up at Ferris High I was just stared at. People whispered
to kids next to them without any pretense of hiding who they were talking
about--me! I heard some giggling from a girl that looked too primp to be
anything but a member of the "in" crowd. Soon I saw notes beings passed
around, followed by more giggling, or the occasional chuckle from a guy. It
seemed like everybody was in on it. All I could do was hang my head low and
find a seat.
Lucky for me the teacher thought good enough to not make any introductions,
with the whole he is from such-and-such. I was spared further humiliation.
Halfway through the class my tired brain registered there was no more
chuckling or giggling. Only a kid here and there looked at me still, and
this was with decreasing regularity. My mind was hoping they had warmed to
me already. But the thought of three more classes today and lunch banished
that wisp of hope, like dust in a breeze.
Global Studies was easy. They were covering a topic my old teacher had
already went over, which was fortunate for me when the teacher called on me.
"So new kid--" Open laughter. "--what are the two rivers that gave
Mesopotamia it's border on either side?" The class looked on me in
expectation--maybe for me to fail and have another thing to laugh at.
"The Tigris and Euphrates." I said it with a tinge of boredom in my voice in
which the picked up on.
"Is my class boring you?" The sneer in his voice told me that I should tread
lightly. I never thought even the teachers would come at me with such
hostility. I'm new for god sake.
"Not really. We just already covered this stuff in my old school." Bad move,
I knew from the complete change of face that I was in for it.
He proceeded to ask me all types of question in which came with more
difficulty. I couldn't believe it. He stopped class to barrage me and try to
get me to get something wrong. The fact that I got every question right only
enraged him more. What kind of monstrous teacher was this! The students were
amused. Not only did they not have to do work, but they also got to see the
teacher get angry. I even heard an occasional chuckle at the teacher's rage.
Maybe they were starting to like me. Then the bell rang and I was saved.
"Before you leave class, you have a five page essay due tomorrow about all
the places we learned so far. And you can think the new kid for "that"."
That messed everything up. The students looked at me with open hostility. No
trace of amusement from me earlier performance.
"Nice going kid," someone said, knocking into me with enough force to make
me going flying. I picked myself up and walked with trepidation to my next
class. School couldn't possibly get any worse than this.
It took me a minute to find my next class, the result was of me being late.
I walked in bracing myself for some more abuse from the kids, and the
teacher for being late. If my last class was total hell, then this one was
the complete opposite. The teacher regarded me with open curiosity and
amusement. She was a young lady, looked to be in her mid twenties. She had
raven black hair and blue eyes. She was built like a model.
"I hope you didn't have too much trouble finding the class, Julian." Wow!
She even knew my name, and used it.
"No, not too much." I said smiling.
"Welcome to Humanity and Lit. There's one seat unoccupied next to Terrin." I
looked around and saw the empty seat, but there was a boy on either side. I
wonder who Terrin was.
I went and took the seat. It was situation in the middle-ish of the room. I
took my stuff out and set up.
"Hey. I'm Terrin." I looked up surprised that someone was talking to me
already. "You look a little young to be in a Junior class. What... you look
like a Freshman."
Terrin turned out to be a boy with black hair and the bluest eyes I had ever
seen on someone. His hair was cut medium short and was in such a way that
they were in little locks laying about his head. The kind you get from
taking a comb through that length hair. His face was completely perfect, the
angle and everything was just right. And his body--that which could be seen
from the clothes he had on, was the body of an athlete--football player. Not
much else could be discerned from his sitting position. His voice was
completely male but not too deep.
"Yea--I am," I said almost too quietly. I knew the drill, nobody, specially
upperclassmen liked Freshmen. We were like the new litter to the school. An
interference that must be showed the rules early on, rather it be the easy
way, or the make an example way. I didn't look at Terrin.
"Wow." That was it. Being an adept at ready people's tone of voice--for my
own protection--I didn't miss the reserved interest in his. I suppose it had
to do with me being so young in a "Junior class" as Terrin had so aptly put.
He didn't say anything else the rest of class. Class went by with no
incidents, which I was grateful for after last block's disaster. The bell
rang and I gathered my stuff.
"Terrin--Julian, can I talk to you for a moment." I walked up to the desk,
Terrin close behind me.
"What's up?" Terrin asked.
"Terrin, Julian is new here--"
"Yea, I know," he cut her off.
"Let me finish. I want you to show Julian around and make sure he knows
where he has to go, and keep him out of trouble. Can you do that for me?"
"Do I "have" to. I mean, come on. He's a Freshman," he state
matter-of-factly. I felt my face warm up some with the undoubtedly red tinge
that came along with it. I knew what he meant about me being a Freshman, it
was taboo to even talk with them.
"Don't pull that popularity rule crap with me, Terrin. I'm asking you to do
this for me, if not for the "Freshman"." I heard the emphasis on Freshman.
"It's all right Mrs. Jones. I can find my own way around." She acted as if
she didn't even hear me.
"Terrin!" She demanded.
"All right, mom, I'll do it. It will make me late for "my" classes, but it's
all right I guess." Mom! Mrs. Jones was his mother. But she was clearly too
young to be his mother. He was sixteen. She was only twenty-something. Well
looked that anyway.
I walked out with him. It was lunch time for me now. People milled about the
hall still, chatting and laughing to what they heard. Terrin tried to say
something to me, but I chose at that moment ditch him, disappearing into the
crowd as easily and a rat into the shadows.
I heard him calling for me at first, but it got to where I couldn't hear him
anymore. I knew he wouldn't find me unless I wanted him too, even if I
didn't know this school well. I decided to skip out on eating. No reason in
having him spot me, or get more stares and laughter. I already seen some of
the kids from my Global Studies class.
I'm sure their anger was strong where it concerned me. Like it was my fault
the teacher was an ass.
After lunch was gym. I never liked gym before, until the beginning of this
year, high school gym was fun. I did all right in it though. I went right
into the locker room. I already knew I would have it today, having got my
schedule before my first day here. Of course all activities were already
picked. I reported to the gym office to see where I had to go.
The coaches were remarkably all in very good shape. Not all good-looking
though. Not to Terrin's looks anyway. They decided to only have me pick one
activity for now so I could just get started, I was told to come back after
we came in to change and leave so I could get the rest picked. I decided on
football, the other choices unappealing: Basic golf, swimming lessons, and
badminton. I went to the locker room to change. No one was really in there
when I first came through, now it was packed. I had my own lock for my
locker and only had to choose. Looking for a locker I noticed Terrin--and he
was in a very appealing state of almost undress. I couldn't help myself and
found myself staring as I walked by. Now I could see how well off he really
was in the body category. He was built. Not overly muscular, but he was cut
nicely. His chest was broad with nice pecs and his waist tapered
considerably. Another feature I saw myself looking at was his butt. It was
an athletic bubble butt, not trace of fat--from what I saw anyway--it was
too nice globes of muscle. His legs were strong and lightly dusted with
black hair. Which I noticed, the rest of his body was hairless.
I took all that in is seconds really and passed by without him noticing me.
I chose a locker close to his--but not too close. I changed quickly. Wanting
to get out of the locker room quickly.
Terrin wasn't at his locker anymore. Wasn't outside the office either. The
gym teacher and not surprisingly, football coach handed me a netted bag with
footballs and told me to bring them out to the field. I walked slowly out to
the field. The school grounds were very nice. First was baseball fields--two
of them, then basketball court, hand ball court, tennis court, then track
and field. There was a another building on school grounds, it had not
markings so I don't know what it was. The grounds were in perfect condition.
I got to the field and threw the bag on the ground. I was look at the field
when I heard someone behind me.
"You following me boy!" I spun around. Terrin was smiling at me, a little
amused. He had some shorts on now, and a football jersey you could see
through a little.
"You disappeared on me in the hall. I have to say your really good at it.
Couldn't find you for the life of me--even missed my lunch." He wasn't mad,
but I felt guilty for ditching him and making him go hungry. "It's all right
though. I just hope I don't fall unconscious from hunger while playing."
"I'm sorry. I thought I would be lightening your load by going off myself."
"It's all right--really. It's my fault anyway. I know you did that because
what I said to my mom."
"Now "she" looks young. Too young to have a son your age anyway."
He laughed. "I know, that's what everyone thinks. How old do you think she
is?" He was enjoying this.
"Um... twenty-five or six," I said timidly.
"Wow! She's gonna love you. I know women don't like giving out their age,
but she shouldn't mind since she looks so young. Dude, she's thirty-seven."
"Yea, right! Get outta here!" I state incredulously.
"No kidding man. That's why I said she's gonna love you." He had such a
beautiful smile. I hope I wasn't staring openly. "So, you play any sports,
tough guy?" Cool, he already gave me a nickname. I kinda hated how straight
people could play with your mind unintentionally, and I can't be mad since
it's completely unintentional on his part.
"I wrestled modified last year, did baseball too. I was on the track team at
my old school this year, but I didn't get a chance to join anything here.
Probably too late."
"No kidding--you wrestle?" His interest was piqued. "Your an amazing kid if
I do say so. In advance classes ahead of your grade, and your sport
interests are great." I blushed at his compliment. The coach came up and
saved me from having to say anything awkward.
"All right... we are just going to start. There enough of you where we can
have two teams against each other. You all know the rule." He looked at me
when he said that. When there was no response from me he continued. All
right. I want my captains out here by me. Lets pick teams.
To my surprise Terrin was one of the boys who walked out. When they started
picking teams I was a little hurt that he didn't pick me right off. I knew
why he hadn't. He didn't know how I played football and he wanted to get his
share of who he knew "was" good before picking someone he wasn't sure of.
Not to mention I was a short Freshman and it would make it awkward to pick
me first. When it seems all the good kids they were sure of was picked, they
started picking the unsure. It was the other guy's turn to pick.
"Uh... let's see. How about that new kid," he said suddenly. "Come on kid,
you're on our team." I was a little dismayed that I didn't get picked. Did I
see a flash of annoyance on Terrin's face when this guy picked me?
Soon all the teams were picked. The captain gathered us all together and
gave decided what we'd do.
"Ok, listen everyone. The first play I'm gonna hand the ball off to the new
kid--" It took me a second to realize he was waiting for me to give my name.
"Julian," I said.
"To our buddy Julian. They won't be expecting the first play for us to give
him the ball since--well since he's new. But I have faith that Julian can
take advantage of that and score one for us. Julian, you'll stand by me. On
the hike you run behind and around me, and I'll hand you the ball. John, you
come behind too and act like you got the ball.
They'll most likely go after you since you are a veteran football player.
Then Julian, you take advantage of that and run like hell to the touchdown.
All right?"
Everyone put their hands in the middle and we counted to three. One three we
all shouted, right. We lined up. He called out the start and said hike. John
and I immediately ran behind and around. Our quarter back faked a hand-off
to John and handed me the ball. Just like predicted everyone started going
after John. I went up the side. When it became apparent that I was really
the one with the ball they changed and came after me. I had a good head
start on them. Terrin came after me himself. Suddenly he was speeding
towards me--fast! I didn't believe the speed on him. I ran faster. Terrin
lunged to touch me, but I swerved and ran. I got the touchdown and my team
started cheering.
My team walked up to the touchdown. Terrin came up puffing.
"Gotta admit, Mike, that was a stroke of genius. Never expected that move.
Didn't think you'd do anything like that for the first play, especially
since we didn't know the tough guy's skills." He was shaking his head in
amazement. "And throwing John in the mixed played the hell outta us."
"I just got skills." Mike said beaming at his play.
"Yea, well before your head gets too big, remember who's the quarterback."
Terrin was smiling.
"Sir, yes sir, Mr. quarterback, sir." We all laughed at that.
The rest of the game went by nicely. They didn't underestimate me anymore
and I scored two more touch downs before then end. In the end Terrin's team
won by one point. No one was mad though since it had been such a good game.
"Hey tough guy," Terrin called as we all filed off the field. "You were
great today. I'm not going to make the mistake of not picking you next
time. Me and Mike will probably fight over you. 'You can take first ball, I
want first pick.' 'No you can take ball, I'm getting first pick.'" He played
the scene. I laughed, blushing at his compliment.
Damn! Why was I blushing so much? :Cuz you like Terrin: the voice in my head
told me.
This time changing Terrin talked to me the whole time. I was trying to
concentrate on what he was saying, but him sitting there in just his calvins
made that really difficult. I think I did fine. I changed slower too, a
result of talking/looking at him.
"What next?" He asked suddenly.
"Huh?" I asked a little stupidly.
"What class, tough guy."
"Oh," I smiled, for catching his meaning and because that great grin of his
was contagious. "Sequential Math, course 3," I said in a mock impersonation
of my counselor.
Terrin laughed. "Who's your teacher?"
"McLauphlin."
"You sure you didn't get your schedule made to fit mine?" He said.
"What? I didn't even know you." I said defensively.
"I'm just kidding ya, tough guy," he said patting me on the shoulder, "we
got the same class again though."
"Oh." I was feeling a little stupid. I walked quietly to class with him.
Some people Terrin knew stopped him and chatted quickly. One even reminded
him that there was no practice today, to which he had a witty response.
Math class went by without incident. The teacher was all right though she
liked to challenge her students to what "she" thought was the best of their
abilities. She took a mild liking to me because math was one of my favorite
subjects. I was reserved through class, not trying to be a know-it-all and
get placed in the nerd category, and not answering too little to be put in
the half-wit category. It was like a game that I played exceptionally well.
I found that Terrin was good in math and liked it a lot too. That made me
think differently of him. Not many jocks were intellectually inclined--well
I suppose it's cuz his mother was a teacher.
I felt a warm little glow deep inside about Terrin that made first block
seem like some nightmare ages ago--which reminds me, I gotta do an essay
tonight. There was a lot of homework from math but that was to be
expected--it was math.
Then the bell rang for last period to be over. I gathered my things, talked
to the teacher for a second, and left. Terrin walked with me.
"Did I mention to you how cool you are?" He said as we were walking. Another
blush came to my face.
"You said something like that earlier--I think." I said playing it off.
"Well, I'm not lying. I can tell you like math as much as I do. I also could
tell you was playing everyone. Not wanting to seem too knowledgable--which
if you didn't pay attention that you were in that class in the first
place, might work on people--and you made it known that you weren't math
illiterate either. It was like a play you were conducting, to your own
motives. It was a masterpiece."
"You don't miss much, do you?" I asked, again amazed at him. I mean come on
what wasn't there to be amazed about. Gorgeous, intellectual, athletic, and
caring. That was like the perfect man anyone could ask for.
"So... what are we gonna do at your house, since I don't have practice?" He
said it as if it was the most natural thing in the world. And as if he knew
that there wouldn't be a 'no, you can't come over.'
My jaw must have hit the ground, because he laughed. He just shook his head
no looking at me.
"I guess we'll know when we get there." On our way down the hall we passed
Terrin's mom's classroom. She called Terrin in, I told him I'll be at my
locker down the hall.
--Mrs. Jones' POV--
"What's up, mom?" Terrin said coming in. He had that happy grin of his on
his face."
"How has the day gone," I asked getting right to the point. "How's Julian
doing?"
"He's great for a little guy. I can't believe his personality." Terrin
started rattling off. "At first he ditches me because what I said when we
were talking earlier. I guess I deserved that. I missed my lunch looking for
him by the way. I met back up with him in gym. He happened to have the same
activity as me--football. Mike made the first play with him--because I was
too slow in picking him, and shit, he's great at it. He scored the first
touch down. And he is fast as hell. I almost caught him but he avoided me
like I was nothing. He ran all the way from the end of the field and scored
a touchdown. And what's more, he wasn't even winded, while I was puffing
like I had asthma. Oh, and he wrestles. You know where that puts people in
my book. If he's good enough he might make Varsity and skip right over JV.
He smart too though he doesn't like to make a show of it. I guess so he
isn't labeled. He loves math as much as I do. You should have seen him play
the class and teacher. He made it seem as if he wasn't too smart, and yet
not stupid either. He manipulated them so well." He paused for breath. "And
guess what. He thought you were only twenty-five. He was wondering how you
could have been my mother."
"Twenty-five, huh? I'm going to like this boy very much. Speaking of which,
this doesn't sound like that same "Freshmen" that we talked about earlier."
"Touche. Score one for the parental." He said. "Well I got to know him
better--oh yea, and I'm going to his house since there isn't any practice."
"Fine, but you had better get your homework finished, or you won't go to
football practice because you'll be in no position to play."
"Ow... yea, yea--I know. Don't I always get it done. Well gotta run, he's
waiting for me to catch up." Terrin ran out the door.
With all of his good friends Terrin had, he was never excited as with
Julian. I guess because Terrin finally found a kindred spirit. His other
friends were either athletic but sorely lacking in the intellect department,
or intellectual but just not into the same things to make them any more than
acquaintances. Julian however, was athletic, exceptionally intellectual
and--a gorgeous little boy.
"Hmm... now why did I add that in." I watch where Terrin left the room,
thinking quietly to myself.
--Julian's POV--
I waited at my locker for him. I wonder what was taking him so long. Must be
having an important conversation with his mom. Probably about his school
work or other duties. Mother are like that sometimes--being a teacher
doesn't change that.
Terrin came jogging towards me. His locker was between mine and his mother's
classroom. He stopped at it a sec and then came over to me. All right, let's
go.
I followed him outside to the bike rack. I grabbed my bike as he grabbed his
and unlocked it from the rack.
"Nice bike," It was a mountain-bike, not much different from my own green
one.
"Yea... mom wanted to get me a car, but I told her to just wait till I
had to go to college. That way I really would need it. I'd rather ride my
bike to school for now, besides I can just use her car if I really need to.
It's over there. He pointed out a nice black truck over in the parking-lot.
The cab on it wasn't covered. "Sometimes I catch a ride with her,
I just put my bike in the back."
"That's a hot truck." I said.
We started riding away from the school. It was quiet at first, neither of us
saying anything, just enjoying the scenery. Though what "scenery" was
definitely different. I didn't stare too much, didn't want to get caught. On
the way there we made and abrupt stop.
"Come on, lets get a shake." It was an ice-cream parlor. I got a vanilla, he
got chocolate. At first I tried declining. I didn't have any money on me. He
said he would buy it. I told him I'd pay him back, and he just looked at me
as said let him do something nice for me. That stopped my arguments. We sat
there to drink them, talking still. I don't know where I suddenly got so
talkative, but since being around him, I've had so much to say. And it
wasn't hard to talk to him.
After that we went to my house. My mom was home. She was delighted when we
came in and she saw I already had a friend. She feared that my day would be
so rough. Then I told her about first block's incident. I realized when I
saw Terrin's interest in the story that I never told him about it yet.
"I kinda feel bad for my trouble in second block earlier. If I'd known what
it was like for you i wouldn't have been so stupid." He said, plopping down
on my bean-bag chair.
"It's all right, you couldn't have known. Besides, you more than made up for
that." He smiled.
The first thing we did, by mutual agreement, was our homework. I typed the
essay up on my computer so it would get done quicker. Luckily I had learned
a lot already in my old school. I got stuck in math though, there was
something my last school didn't cover yet and I had missed from not being at
the new one. Terrin helped me out, telling me the information I needed to
know, and got me understanding a lot easier than any teacher ever had. After
that we played my PS2 and then watched a movie. My mom of course didn't
leave anything to chance. She had him staying for dinner. During dinner we
talked. Terrin told her about himself and how good I was in football today.
"Julian is in wrestling too and track. He was undefeated and won MVP of his
team." My mom said.
"Yea, right! Why didn't you tell me. I bet you can get into Varsity. I'm the
captain of the team." We talked for the rest of dinner. When we finished I
offered to wash them.
"Oh no you don't. Don't give me that polite 'let me clean the dishes, mom.'
You have company, go right on outta hear now." I laughed and followed Terrin
back to my room.
He closed the door and turned on the radio. After popping in a cd he turned
to me.
"All right. Let's see what you got." He said all serious now.
"What!" I said looking around the room.
"Look at all this room," he indication with a sweep of his hand. "I want to
see how good you are." Then it was settled. It wasn't too much different
than modified except some rule changes and the more advanced moves he knew.
I was doing pretty good for my being lighter than him and he being in
Varsity. After a while he got more serious. He caught me with a move I
didn't know and got me to the floor. Just as quickly he got me in the
grape-vine.
I was very aware of him being on top of me. As hard as I tried not to think
about it, I could feel his crotch pushing into my stomach. It was like a
soft bulge in the middle of all that hard muscle of his. I fought to keep
control of my own dick. Doing so made me pinned.
He pulled himself up. "Not bad there until I got you with that move. But I
don't understand, you hadn't plenty of opportunity to try and get out of the
grape-vine. You didn't even move. Why?"
Damn--what now? What do I say. "You surprised me with that move and got me
locked up tight before I recovered with that grape-vine."
He nodded, all serious like. "All right. But you have to learn to expect the
unexpected, and to recover quickly from surprises like that. Here, let me
show you some moves."
We spent the better part of an hour with the moves. My mind was half on what
he was showing me, half on his close proximity and his body on mine.
After a while we sat down and cooled down in front of the fan. Then he said
he had to go. I walked him to the door and watch as he rode away, saying
he'd see me tomorrow. Then I said good night and went upstairs. I took a
quick shower and went to my room. I stood naked in front of my full length
mirror and compared myself to Terrin.
My hair was dirty blond, in almost the same style as Terrin's--cut short. It
was went and hung limp on my head, giving it a darker hue. My eyes are what
I thought is the best asset on me. Emerald green that my grandmother said
had wisdom in them that belied my years, also great pain.
My body was smaller and more slender than Terrin's. My muscles were nowhere
near as defined as his. They just peeked through the skin. My flacid dick
was four-inches, hanging between my legs. It grew to be six and a half
inches. Then I wondered what Terrin looked like naked.
I pulled some boxers on and sat at my computer. I decided to write a poem.

|
IF YOU ONLY KNEW |
|
If you only knew, all the tears I cry |
the way I came home hurt, hoping I would die |
|
If you only knew, my pain from every day |
everyone pointing, fag is all they'd say |
|
If you only knew, how my "friends" abandoned me |
Even say things like, shit is all I'd be |
|
If you only knew, how things changed so fast |
my popularity with sport, all now in the past |
|
If you only knew, the hurt I had before |
starting as soon as, I left my front door |
|
If you only knew the fears and despair |
I'd never have a friend that would care |
|
If you only knew, of your friendship how much I'm glad |
you banished my pain and sorry, you took away the bad |
|
If you only knew, the fact that I am gay |
what would you do then? What would you now say? |
|
--------------------------------------------------------
I fell asleep thinking about my old life, hoping that everything would be
different. Nobody would know I'm gay here. I would never make that mistake
again. Never. I fell into a fitful sleep.
