CHAPTER ELEVEN: THE DANCE

TREY'S POV



"I so hate my mother. She's like totally pissing me off" Liberty said.

It was Sunday and it had been a few days since Bear had dragged me out of
my funk. I was feeling much better about things now. I still sorta had that
feeling of dread but I was handling things better now. I was at home and
Liberty had called me an hour ago and woke me up at 7:30 and told me she
was coming over in a few minutes. I had been having a really hot dream

her seeing that.

"Lib, your mother is within her rights to be pissed, you know" I told
her. We were sitting in my family room and I was listening to her and it

"Shut up Trey. You are my closest friend. You're supposed to be on my

"Liberty, I just saw the light" I said. I didn't elaborate because how

"Who the hell do you talk to that much anyway. You certainly don't talk to
me that much over the phone" I said as I was really not seeing it.

"I have you know I have other friends besides you" she said with a scowl.

"I know, but you can't be talking to them that much either as I know for
Bear at least that he's always with me" I said, then thought about what I
had said and decided that it sounded too telling. "Well I mean when he's
not on a date or something" I added even though it left a bad taste in my
mouth as a little thought entered my head that maybe he was still dating
girls behind my back. He couldn't just lose his taste for vagina,

"I better go. I have to go get some things cause my grams is coming in for
a week" she said standing up. We headed for the door where Liberty was

"Liberty, where you going?" Cara asked.

"You mean where are you going" Carly corrected and I shook my head as she
was definitely gonna be the smarter twin.

"Whatever" Cara responded while rolling her eyes. "Where are you going?"
she asked Liberty mocking Carly.

"I'm heading out to do some errands for my mom" she said to her with an
ironic smile. They probably reminded her of herself and Justice.

"When are you coming back?" Carly asked.

"I'm not sure. I'll see you guys soon though. I still remember that I
promised that Justice and I would hang out with you two. I told her about
it. She's home this week so I'll get her to come by to see you" she
said. They loved Liberty I guess because of the whole twin connection.

"Okay" they both said as the hugged her and she hugged them back. They then
took off toward the kitchen.

"They love you" I said to Liberty with a smile.

"Not as much as they love their big brother Trey" she replied. She then
kissed my cheek, said goodbye and left.

I headed back upstairs and decided to take a shower. I took a shower and
brushed my teeth and headed for my room to find something to wear. I heard
the doorbell but didn't think anything of it. After a few minutes I heard a
voice while I was naked and bent over looking in my closet.

"Damn, that's a hot ass you got baby. How come I haven't noticed it before
now?" Bear asked. I smiled and decided to shake it a bit. I was surprised

"I'm getting a few" I heard in a voice that was not Bear's. I spun around
to see Jessica standing there next to Bear who was trying his best not to

and a light sweater.

"Sorry" he managed to say as I left the closet (ha) to find him laying
across my bed still laughing. I looked at Jessica and her eyes were still
wide, no doubt trying to mentally remove my sweater and jeans to get
another look at the goods.

"I'm so glad you are enjoying yourself you braying jackass" I snapped as I
stalked to my door and closed it which is what I should have done in the
first place.

"Baby I'm sorry. I just didn't expect you to have your ass sticking in the
air like that. I was mesmerized and I sorta forgot Jessica was here" he
said through his laughter.

"Trey I'm sorry. I didn't mean to see... things" Jessica managed to say

"Yeah, whatever" I muttered. "What are you two doing over here this early
anyway?" I asked.

"Oh so your girlfriend Liberty can come over this early but your man
can't?" Bear asked and he almost sounded believable.

"How did you know Liberty was over here" I asked.

"Uh huh. You just remember that I'm watching you" he replied.

"Wow, stalker much?" I asked.

"I'm not a stalker" he said with a scowl.

"That did sound kind of stalker-ish" Jessica added. "Anyway, we came over
to make plans for the dance. You're going with me" she said frankly.

"I'm what now?" I asked. What the hell was she talking about.

"Well you didn't think you would go with Bear did you?" she asked and I
have to admit that it did cross my mind.

"No" I lied and Bear snickered.

"I would love to go with you baby if that's what you want" he said with a
smile as he took my hand and looked into my eyes. I then suddenly thought
of why that couldn't happen. I snatched my hand from his even though I
wasn't really meaning to and I saw a brief unreadable look in his eyes.

"I-I... yeah what you said Jessica" I said feeling that dread tug at me,
but I pushed it down.

"Yeah..." Jessica said no doubt noticing the tension in the air. "Sean,
Veronica and I made a plan last night that I would go with you and Veronica
would go with Bear. Then we could work things so you two can get all close
for a dance" Jessica said and I liked her plan and I didn't like it. I knew
that Bear at one time had wanted Veronica so I didn't want them together.

"Baby, nothing is gonna happen between me and Veronica. Even if I was
stupid enough to try anything with her she wouldn't be having it" Bear said
and I remember that he had supposedly asked her out even before we got
together, before she knew for sure about us and she turned him down then so
I had to trust he was right.

"I thought she was going with Billy?" I asked then looked at Jessica but
she snickered.

"She was then he got grounded over something so now this is happening" she
said nonchalantly

"Are you sure you don't wanna go with Sean" I asked then.

"Why would I do that" she asked in return.

"Well you're avoiding Billy, you're talking to Sean a lot and now you're
planning things with him. You sure nothing's going on between you two" I
said with a smirk.

"You can't be serious?" she asked and I just shrugged. "I'm not into Sean
like at all" she answered.

"Okay, fine" I said. I was hungry so I decided to head for the kitchen and
they followed. When I got to the bottom of the stairs I saw none other than
Alvis Dellum, my brother's best friend standing there talking to my dad. I
liked Alvis and he like me just fine. "Alvis!" I said with a smile. He
turned to me and a big smile appeared on his face.

"Trey, how're doing? Right good I hope" he said in that brit accent I
loved.

"You bet" I said. Alvis was a very attractive man with short spiked black
hair and dark blue eyes. He walked over and pulled me into a bro hug. I saw
Bear looking suspicious so I hammed it up by pulling him closer slyly
winked at him to which he scowled. What surprised me was he didn't pull
back or anything but instead hugged me tighter as well.

"Well that certainly was an enthusiastic hug" he said with a smile.

"I haven't seen you in months and I missed you that's all" I said.

"Well I missed you too" he said.

I was confused by that but I didn't pay too much attention to it. He spoke
to Bear but Bear was kind of standoffish I guess still ticked over the
whole hug thing. Jessica was giggling as he took her hand and kissed it
like a proper gentleman would. I saw something in Jessica's eyes that I
hadn't ever seen before and some things about Jessica started making sense.

She had said that she wasn't into highschool boys. She had always acted
like this around Alvis. She liked him and that's why she wasn't into
highschool boys because she was into a college man. This was some
interesting information to have.

"What are you grinning about" Zane asked as he came up and put an arm
around me.

"Nothing" I said. I didn't wanna broadcast Jessica's business.

"I think you've just figured something out that I've known for a while
about your friend Jessica" he said quietly into my ear. I didn't reply and
he didn't elaborate.

We kind of hung around talking about nothing in particular. Jessica was
extra giggly and Alvis was surprisingly attentive towards her. He was also
confusing me because whenever he caught me looking at him he would give me
a sly smile and a wink. After a while the doorbell rang again and my dad
joked about how many visitors we were getting today. He went to the door
and came back with Justice in tow.

"Justice, hey how are you" I said with that stupid grin that I always got
around her. I have no idea what the deal was because I know I wasn't
attracted to her sexually or anything. I stood and walked to her.

"Hey Trey I'm fine. How's things" she said with that smile that made me
smile. I was seriously wondering if she was learning witchcraft at her
school.

"It's fine. You're home all week I hear" I said trying my best to remove
that dammed smile.

"Yeah well while you ordinary people are at school this coming week us
privileged kids are off for a week" she joked and Jessica scoffed.

"I'll have you know I'm not ordinary" she said.

"Yes dear whatever you say" Justice said in a very Liberty tone.

"Are you sure you're not Liberty?" Jessica asked. I guess I wasn't the only
one who noticed.

"I can assure you that I'm definitely not Liberty" Justice said and I let a
snicker slip out. I was glad she wasn't there.

"Well what brings you by Justice?" my dad asked.

"I wanted to talk to your son about something" she said politely.

"Sure, lets go over here" I said as I steered us toward the kitchen but not
going into the kitchen.

"I just wanted to know if you wouldn't mind helping me with a project I
have to turn in at school? It's on human anatomy" she said and my eyes went
wide. She couldn't possibly be asking me about my anatomy was she?

"I... er... um..." I tried to say and she laughed and put her hand on my
shoulder.

"Trey it's not what you're thinking. It's behavioral anatomy, not physical
anatomy. It's basically a study on human behavior" she said and it was kind
of confusing but it had me interested. This is the kind of stuff I wanted
to be doing.

"Oh well I guess. What do I have to do?" I asked.

"Well first you have to fill out this questionnaire then you have to keep a
journal about your activities for a week and be as honest as possible" she
said, I was having second thoughts big time. My activities involved kissing
a man and sometimes doing sexy things with said man.

"How honest exactly?" I asked nervously.

"Well not sex stuff honest but other things. You really do have sex on the
brain don't ya" she said as she giggled and grabbed my arm.

I happened to glance back into the living room and Zane was laughing with
Alvis while Jessica was looking at Justice with narrowed eyes. Bear looked
fit to kill though. I guess Dad had gone into another room or
something. Jessica looked like she whispered something to Bear then she
headed our way.

"What are you two talking about over here" Jessica said coming to stand
between Justice and I. She was smiling but I could tell it was fake.

"Well I was asking Trey something" Justice said nicely.

"Yeah like what" Jessica said, but I could hear that slight edge to her
voice. What the hell was her problem? Justice's eyes narrowed then she
slyly smirked, and I knew this wasn't gonna end well.

"Well I was about to ask him to take me to your school dance next weekend"
she said louder than needed but not shouting and I was thoroughly
confused. "You don't have a problem with that do you?" she asked still at
the same voice level and Jessica set her shoulders.

"Well yes I do seeing as he's going with me" Jessica replied and I rolled
my eyes. What the hell were they doing.

"Oh snap" Zane said enjoying what ever this was.

"Well I'm sure he could reconsider. Now that he has a better option"
Justice said rounding Jessica so they were now in opposite positions than
when they started. I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

"I know you didn't just say that" Jessica said looking all kinds of pissed
off.

"Yeah I did. Now that I'm here he can now be with me and ditch who he's
with" she said with a grin and again I saw how this was a mirror image of
Liberty. That they were indeed twins. I happened to glance at Bear just
then and I had never seen him look so furious. He was red and his right eye
was twitching.

"I do not believe you actually have the nerve to say that to my face"
Jessica spat.

"Jessica it's fine. I'm sure a... pretty girl like yourself can find
another date" she said and the passive-aggressive was dripping from her. I
had to end this now.

"Justice as nice as it is that you want to go with me, I kinda already said
yes to Jessica" I said and Jessica scoffed.

"So that's the only reason that you're not going with her" she said looking
genuinely pissed.

"Since you already agreed to go with her I guess I'll concede... for now"
she said with a wink.

"Yeah, whatever" Jessica muttered.

Justice said she had to take care of something and said she'd see me
later. Then she winked at Jessica again which pissed her off. She left and
it was then time for being clowned by Zane and Calvin who I hadn't realized
had seen most of what had happened. Bear was obviously pissed because he
left soon after Justice did. He didn't even try to get me alone to kiss me
or anything. He called me later that night and apologized for leaving like
he did and told me he loved me and hated Justice. I laughed and told him he
was crazy and that I loved him too.

Over the school week I of course heard about the cat fight between Jessica
and Justice from different people. Dammed Calvin and Alex. They gossiped
more than church ladies. I just knew Sean was the cause of the news
spread. Liberty of course glared at me for two whole days after she heard
it. I just couldn't figure out what her problem was when it came to
Justice.

Drake was of course shocked that two girls were seemingly fighting over me
and Sean took that opportunity to ask who he was going with. Drake looked
confused but said he was of course going with Liberty. I couldn't figure
out what his game was until he asked if he was sure that there wasn't
someone else he wanted to go with and he quickly glanced at Bear with
raised eyebrows. I almost laughed because it seemed that Sean had seen what
I had too. Drake was clueless though to what Sean was implying.

Saturday night came and it was finally time for the dance and I was in my
room putting on the finishing touches on everything. I actually didn't rent
a tux but had a really nice suit that still fit from a cousin's wedding
earlier this year. I would save the tux renting for prom. I have to admit
that I looked pretty good.

"Looking pretty good there bro" I heard Zane say as he walked into my room.

"Thanks" I said.

"Jessica's gonna enjoy it" he said and I could hear the grin in his voice,
which I confirmed when I looked at him. I groaned as I rolled my eyes.

"We're just friends man" I said annoyed that he kept bringing this up.

"Yeah, sure you are" he said skeptically. "Didn't sound like you were
friends when Jessica and Justice were squaring off over you" he added with
a snicker.

"I thought you said you knew that she wanted Alvis?" I asked him.

"It wasn't Alvis she was bearing her claws over was it?" he countered with
that annoying smile on his face.

"Whatever man" I replied. I heard the doorbell ring as I was grabbing my
wallet, phone, and keys. I then heard Bear yell for me to "move my ass
cause we were going to be late". I went and sat down on my bed.

"What are you doing" Zane said with a smile.

"Just waiting" I said with a smirk.

"You two are so weird" Zane said shaking his head as he left the room.

"Trey, move it. I'm not waiting all night" Bear yelled. I decided to go on
ahead. I headed down the stairs and had to stop because he was breathtaking
in his dark suit and blue bow-tie that matched his eyes. What really
shocked me though was that his normally brown hair was now a dark blonde. I
couldn't believe he had dyed or bleached his hair as yesterday it was
brown. It was working for him though.

"What's up with the hair?" I asked trying to hide how affected I was by
this incredibly handsome man.

"That's what we were wondering" dad said.

"It's just something I wanted to try" he said sort of bruskly.

"Oh sweetie you look great" Mom said as she came up to me and did the mom
thing with smoothing out my suit coat and checking me for fuzzballs and
things like that.

"Yeah son, looking pretty good" Dad added.

"Thanks you two" I replied.

"You ready Trey?" Bear asked. He seemed rushed and like he was in a bad
mood but trying to hide it but not doing it very well.

"Yeah I guess" I said. He then told me to come on and turned and left after
saying goodbye to my family. I just looked at them and shrugged and
followed him.

We got into his truck and he pulled away from the curb and started toward
Jessica's place. We were to pick her up then head for the dance while
Veronica was going to ride with Sean. As we headed to pick up Jessica I
looked at him and his jaw was set and he had a serious look on his face. I
was seriously wondering what was wrong. What had happened between the time
I had talked to him on the phone a few hours ago and now since he was fine
then.

He pulled over into a deserted parking lot and headed for the secluded area
then turned the truck off and sat there for a minute. I was wondering what
was going on and was about to ask when he turned to me and looked into my
eyes and finally he smiled and grabbed my head and kissed me. It was so hot

rolled my eyes at him and I heard him chuckle again.

We finally arrived at Jessica's place. I didn't see Drake's car at
Liberty's place so either he hadn't arrived yet or they were already
gone. Jessica was stepping out of the house just as I stepped out of Bear's
truck.

"Wow, you look beautiful" I said as she came up to me. I kissed her cheek
just in case her parents were looking out the window or something. She was
wearing a long black dress with white floral patterns at the tail. It
matched my tie.

"Why thank you. You look very handsome" she said smiling. She then gave me
a once over and shook her head.

"What is it?" I asked looking myself over too.

"Um, I think you need to fix yourself" she said as she looked me over with
a smirk. She then took to doing it herself. When she looked at Bear her
eyes went wide.

"Hey Jess, you like my hair" he asked with a smile.

"Yeah, but I hope you guys weren't planning on going into the dance looking
like something went down between you two" she said then giggled.

Bear got out and she went around the truck and fixed him and I was hoping
her parents weren't watching this. We all then got in and headed for the
dance. We talked and joked on the way and Jessica said she had a surprise
for us. I asked what and she said we'd see once we got to the dance which
made me mad curious.

We pulled up to the school and the dance was in the school auditorium and I
could hear and feel the music from where we parked. We got out and headed
in. We saw Sean and Veronica waiting at the entrance.

"Hey bud, how's it hanging" Sean said as he walked up all smiles and pulled
me into a sideways hug.

"It's good" I said

"Well I guess we're not standing here at all" Bear said looking affronted.

"Oh don't mind him Bear. You know he has a man crush on Trey" Veronica said
as she walked up to him.

"I do not" Sean said but then pulled me closer and jokingly sniffed my hair
and smiled.

"You better back up dude" Bear said with narrowed eyes.

"Okay man, chill" Sean said stepping back from me and I just rolled my
eyes.

"So Sean, where's your date" I asked as I hadn't heard anything about who
he was taking.

"Well there she is over there" he said pointing to Natasha Blade. I hadn't
really seen her since Bear went out with her the second week of school.

"Oh her" I said unenthusiastically to which he smiled.

"Jealous" he asked.

"Of you? Please dude you need to come again with that" I said as I walked
in with Jessica.

"Ouch" Bear responded.

"Yeah, he's gonna have to go to the hospital to get rid of all that burn"
Veronica added as they followed us.

"Very funny Trey" came Sean's late retort.

We walked in and the place was done up really well in autumn colors. It
looked great. I spied Liberty standing next to Drake looking bored out of
her skull while he was talking to some of his teammates. She looked up and
saw us and smiled then headed our way pulling Drake along.

"Hey guys you all look great" Liberty said as we all met up.

"You do too" I said to her which made her smile.

"Bear dude, you're blonde" Drake exclaimed. That's when Sean, Veronica, and
Liberty looked as well. I was surprised it took the cousins so long to
notice.

"Yup" Bear said simply.

"It looks good" Veronica said touching it. She then glanced at me and
winked. I was about to respond when I looked toward the door and saw
someone head toward us who I didn't expect to see. Bear followed my gaze
and we saw Justice heading toward us.

"Hey you all" Justice said looking gorgeous in a gold strapless dress. The
girl looked good.

"Justice, what the hell are you doing here" Liberty asked and I wondered
how she didn't know about this seeing as how they lived in the same house.

"Mom thought I should get out of the house" she replied. "Hey Trey, you
look so handsome" she said coming toward me and laying a hand on my arm.

"Uh, thanks" I said dumbly with that goofy smile on my face. I wished I
knew why I acted like that around her.

"Justice why are you always around Trey" Liberty spat.

"Always, around him? I've seen him like 3 times since summer ended" she
replied sounding slightly pissed off.

"Yeah right. I know you were over at his house last week" Liberty
countered.

"So what. What do you care if she's around him. You want to be around him
all the time or something?" Drake snapped.

"Drake shut up" Liberty said.

"No sister your... boyfriend asked you a question. Why do you have a
problem with me being near Trey" Justice said.

"Screw you" Liberty said as she left us and I was just stunned at that
exchange.

"Well that was fun" Sean said.

"How was that fun?" Drake asked.

"Well it just was" Sean replied with a smile.

"Well I think I'm gonna go get me some punch. Wanna go Jessica" Veronica
asked.

"Sure, I wanna see of they have any cookies" she said as they started to
leave.

"I'll go with" Sean said. "You want anything buddy?" Sean asked as he
draped an arm around me.

"Why are you always touching him, and where is your date?" Drake asked with
a scowl.

"What's it to you?" Sean asked him. "Also, while you're worried about who
I'm here with, you should concern yourself with who you're here with" Sean
