Tommy and Tanner 7

The boys made it to school with mere minutes to spare. They didn't have
time to go to their shared locker before the tardy bell rang, so they had
to carry their backpacks with them to first hour classes.

"You squirts owe me!" Tim chuckled as they all ran to their respective
rooms.

At noon, Tommy and Tanner took their lunches outside because the day was
beautiful and they wanted to sit in the sun. It wasn't unusual for them to
eat together, but they often ended up sharing a table with Ava and Sibyl
even though Tommy and Ava weren't dating anymore.

They kind of wanted to be alone to talk - away from others who might
overhear them.

"Are you okay with last night?" Tommy asked, hoping he wouldn't be
disappointed with the answer.

"More than okay," Tanner enthused. "I finally understand a lot of things.
I wonder if my father guessed about me a long time before I knew."

"What makes you think that?"

"Oh, because he never wanted me to sleep with another boy or hug another
boy, and stuff like that. He always expected me to be like a grownup man."

"Maybe he was trying to make you tough so you'd never get picked on. He
must have had it rough in the orphanage."

"Maybe, but we'll never know. I miss him sometimes, but I'm beginning to
feel like Tark is my dad."

"He is! I've noticed you call him `Dad' and you refer to your biological
dad as your `father' most of the time. I think that says a lot about
what's going on inside of your head."

"Wow, I actually do, don't I? I hadn't realized it. Do you think Dad will
be pissed when he finds out about us? Do you think Tim suspects?"

"I think Dad will be okay with it. I'm pretty sure Tim was surprised to
find us naked in the same bed, but he's really cool. If he had been
pissed, he wouldn't have joked with us and given us a ride. He's never
waited for us before when we're late, so maybe it was his way of saying
he's cool with it."

The boys were so into their conversation that they hadn't heard Ava
approach. When she spoke to them, they were startled – wondering how
long she had been listening.

"Tanner, you know Sibyl is my best friend, but I have to tell you something
privately and you're not gonna like it."

"Uh, Tommy can stay; we have no secrets."

"Okay, but don't say I didn't warn you. Sibyl likes you a lot and she says
she wants to marry you someday, but I know she's been doing things with
another guy. I think he's got her pregnant and she wants you to think it
was you. You're a really nice guy. You're both really nice guys. I could
never lie to you like that, Tommy, even though I'd like to keep you as my
boyfriend. It wouldn't be fair. I don't understand her. Please don't
ever tell her I told you because she'll accuse me of trying to take you
away from her. She thinks I'm jealous anyway."

"Who is the guy?"

"I'm not telling because I told her I'd keep it a secret."

"How do I know you're telling me the truth?" Tanner asked.

"Okay, I'll tell you this much; I'm sure they're meeting after school. You
might want to keep your eyes open. She thinks I had to go to the office,
so I've got to hurry back before she goes looking for me."

"What are you planning to do?" Tommy asked after Ava had left.

"We're gonna follow her and see where she goes and whom she meets. Then I
can confront her without getting Ava in trouble."

"I'm not sure it's a good move, but I'm with you because you're my bro."

"And something more...?" Tanner giggled, patting Tommy's butt as they arose
to go to class.

----------

Tanner and Tommy cut track practice in the afternoon in order to tail
Sibyl. After they made sure she had gotten on her bus, they ran as fast as
they could, taking shortcuts in an attempt to keep up. It was a losing
battle initially, but once the bus turned onto Third Avenue there were
enough traffic lights to prevent it from making good progress. The guys
rounded the corner onto Sibyl's street in time to see her go into her
house.

There were bushes conveniently located in the yard across the street where
the boys could be out of sight while watching the house. They had been
waiting for half an hour or longer and were about to give it up when a
sports car pulled into the drive. Jordan Cook slid from behind the wheel
and headed toward the kitchen door.

"Something else just fell into place!" Tanner exclaimed. "Remember how he
called me a pussy-boy and told me to stay away from Sibyl? Now, I know
why. She liked me better!"

"I don't think I'd get too excited over who she likes best. She must have
liked him pretty well if she's having his kid. They had to do more than
kiss!" Tommy reminded him. "So now that we know, what are you going to do
about it?"

"I guess I'll tell her tomorrow that I saw him here and make sure she knows
I'm not her boyfriend. She can't go around saying I did it to her if she
knows I know."

The boys were standing up to leave when there was a ruckus across the
street. They saw Jordan dragging Sibyl toward his car.

"I'm not going with you!" she screamed. "You can't make me do it. You can
take me there, but I'm not going to let them do it!"

Jordan slapped Sibyl so hard that she fell to the ground.

Tanner and Tommy didn't know what the argument was about, but they knew
what they had to do. Without hesitation, they ran as rapidly as they could
to intervene. Jordan was kicking the helpless girl when they both shouted,
hurling their bodies toward him.

"You keep out of this, pussy-boys! This has nothing to do with you; it's
none of your business." Jordan snarled as he side-stepped their attack.

"We're makin' it our business, asshole!" Tanner yelled back at the top of
his lungs."

Jordan hit the remote button on his keychain popping the trunk lid on his
car. He pulled out a baseball bat and swung it menacingly in Tanner's
direction.

Tommy picked up a few rocks from the flowerbed. He was going create a
major distraction. When the first one hit the shiny red finish of the
driver's door, it caused Jordan to spin around to chase Tommy. Tommy's
second throw went wild nearly hitting Tanner who was circling Jordan from
behind.

Throwing on the run wasn't working well, so Tommy stopped long enough to
take better aim. This rock found its target. Jordan's eyes bugged as it
hit him in the chest temporarily knocking the wind out of him.

Tanner jumped on Jordan's back in that split second and clung like a leech.
Jordan flailed around with the bat trying to dislodge him to no avail.

Tommy grabbed more rocks and threw them at Jordan's feet in an attempt to
bring him down. It was beginning to look like a bizarre sort of stalemate
when a police car rolled into the drive. The two officers ran to pull
Tanner off of Jordan. As soon as Jordan was free, he took another swing at
Tanner. Fortunately, one of the officers anticipated the move and brought
Jordan down with his newly issued taser.

Tanner quickly went to Sibyl's side to see if she was badly hurt. She was
crying and holding her stomach.

"I think I'm bleeding inside," she sobbed. I think he killed it."

The policemen handcuffed Jordan while he was subdued from the electrical
shock. They were wondering how they were going to sort it all out when a
lady came from across the street.

"I'm the one who called 911 when I saw that young man (pointing at Jordan)
punching and kicking Sibyl. If these two boys hadn't come along, there's
no telling what would have happened. I can't believe they kept him from
doing her anymore harm; they're about half his size."

(She failed to mention she had seen the pair sitting behind her front
hedge.)

As soon as the ambulance arrived to transport Sibyl to the hospital, the
officers took all three young men to the station.

----------

Both of the Torrance boys told similar stories although they were separated
while they were being questioned. They said they were coming over to see
Sibyl because Tanner had been dating her. Neither boy told that Sibyl had
accused Tanner of impregnating her, or that he was breaking up with her.
It wasn't anyone's business and it might cast suspicion on them.

Jordan changed his story three times trying to make it look as if the other
boys had initiated the attack.

The officer who had gathered the DNA evidence in the locker room came into
the station to catch up on paperwork before going home for the day. He
recognized Tommy and Tanner and caught a glimpse of Jordan.

"You're the kids who were hazed by that jerk, right?"

"Yeah, I'm surprised you recognize us with hair." Tanner grinned.

"And with clothes," the man teased back.

"What did mister `high and mighty' do this time?" he continued.

The boys retold their story, again leaving out the part about Sibyl's
suspected pregnancy.

----------

They hadn't been there much longer when Tark strode into the room. He
immediately put an arm around the shoulders of both of his sons.

"I'm sure there's a reasonable explanation for why I'm picking you up at
the police station."

"Yes, Dad," they said in chorus.

"That's cool."

Tark approached the desk.

"Officer Hadley, is there any reason I can't take my sons home?"

"No, sir, they're not being charged with anything. Some lady saw the whole
thing and vouched for them. She talked like they're heroes."

----------

The ride home wasn't long enough to tell Tark the whole story, but the boys
wanted to get the worst part out to their dad in hopes that he wouldn't
tell their mom.

A penitent Tanner admitted he'd had sex with Sibyl and that she had claimed
she was going to have his baby. Tark listened without comment. He made a
right turn just before they got to their street and he headed for the park.
He whipped out his cell phone and told Teri a small fib that they were
still at the station and would be a bit late because he was going to the
store for ice cream as soon as they left. Then he asked a few more
questions of the teens.

Satisfied that the boys had leveled with him completely, Tark drove toward
the supermarket to get the dessert which was their part of their alibi for
taking longer.

"When you tell this at home, I think you should stick to the same version
you told the police. You're right that it's no one's business. I
appreciate the fact you were brave enough to tell me everything. I'll keep
it to myself. By the way, should I buy more condoms while I'm getting the
ice cream?"

"No Dad, I'm never going to be doing that again."

"Don't say `never', Tanner. One bad experience isn't going to keep you
from making love."

"Trust me, sir; I'm really not going to do it again."

----------

Naturally, the afternoon's misadventure was part of the discussion at
dinner. Tark knew Tucker would hear about it at school the next week and
he didn't want the kid to be caught off guard when someone brought up the
subject. Both Tim and Teri suspected there was more to it, but followed
Tark's lead in not dwelling on it too long. They got Tuck to talk about
his day, so he had something else to think about.

After Tucker had gone to bed, Teri got a few more details out of Tark. It
seemed to be enough to satisfy her. Tim came to the boys' room to hear
what else they had to say.

"Tim, you have to promise not to gossip. You can't tell anyone, not even
Chas. Swear?"

"Swear."

"Okay, we followed Sibyl home to find out who else she was seeing. If we
had told that to the police, they might think we were stalking her or
something since she and I've been dating." Tanner said.

"Why did Jordan abuse her like that?" Tim questioned.

"Who knows for sure?" Tommy spoke up. "It sounded like he thought Sibyl
was pregnant with his baby and he wanted her to get an abortion. I heard
her say she wasn't going to go where he wanted to take her. I think it was
a clinic where they do that. He's a nasty piece of work!"

"Yeah, he is a piece of work alright," Tim readily agreed. "I'm really
glad you were together to take care of each other while you helped Sibyl.
You evidently have good survival instincts. You may need those..."

After Tim had left, the boys turned to look at each other.

"I think he knows," Tanner stated.

"Yeah, I have the same suspicion. I'm glad we have him in our corner.
He'd make one hell of an enemy," Tommy agreed.

----------

Tommy went downstairs to use the basement shower while Tanner used the one
in the main bath. They both needed to scrub off the smell of sweat and
adrenalin before they bedded down for the night.

They met back in their room wearing only the towels they had used for
drying off. Those fell to the floor almost immediately, just before they
embraced. They held each other for several minutes taking comfort in their
closeness.

"God, I love you, Tommy," Tanner finally broke the silence. "Jordan would
have killed me for sure if you hadn't been there."

"Nah, you would have kept dancing around like a mongoose with a cobra until
he got worn out and gave up. You're a lot quicker on your feet than he is
even if he can beat you in the water."

"Well, I disagree and I love you for being there for me. Uh, can I sleep
with you tonight?"

"Duh! You're gonna sleep with me every night from here on out. I've always
wanted you in my bed. I missed you so much when you moved out. I still
don't understand why you did."

"I missed being with you too, but I thought I'd better sleep in my own bed
because I was feeling things for you that I figured I wasn't supposed to."

"So what changed your mind, John Tanner Torrance?"

"Last night. Holding, kissing, and sharing my body with you; it was what
I've always heard love was supposed to feel like. I can't fight myself
anymore."

"Good," Tommy grinned as he pulled Tanner into a deep, passionate kiss.
"Don't fight me either," he requested when they had come up for air.

"I don't have the strength to," Tanner giggled.

"Are you too tired for a repeat performance of last night?"

By way of answer, Tanner ran his fingertips across Tommy's nipples before
moving them tantalizingly toward his crotch.
