The street was dark and narrow. It had to be the middle of the night and
yet it was really hot and humid.

'What am I doing here?' Tommy wondered. He looked around as saw Roy at his
side walking with him at a brisk pace. He wanted to ask him where they were
and what they were doing but didn't seem able to get the thought from his
mind to his mouth.

'This can't be Lombard.' Tommy considered. 'This isn't even the USA.'

Tommy was walking on cobblestone streets. He'd never even seen cobblestone
streets except in a movie or on TV.

"Are we being followed?" Tommy asked Roy.

"Quiet," Roy whispered as he held his hand up. Both Tommy and Roy stopped
walking and listened. Tommy could clearly hear the sound of multiple boots
hitting the cobblestone street. Suddenly, a squad of armed troops rounded
the corner, Trapping Roy and Tommy like deer caught in the headlights of an
oncoming car.

It didn't take long for Tommy to react as the solders raised their weapons
to fire. He decided that the handful of solders, dressed in brown
camouflaged uniforms were no threat. He snapped his fingers and a whirlwind
of fire appeared between them and the solders. They fired their weapons but
no bullets emerged through the fire.

"Quit showing off and let's get out of here," Roy said grabbing Tommy's arm
and moving them back down the street. Roy and Tommy hurried around a corner
and came face to face with another solder, one who looked like an officer
as his uniform was green instead of brown. Behind him stood a squad of more
than 30 men, their weapons shouldered and ready to fire.

The officer raided his side arm, which appeared to be a 45 automatic, and
pulled the trigger.

Tommy opened up his eyes and looked around his room. Danny was asleep on
his side of the bed looking peaceful as Tommy's heart thundered in his
chest. It felt like his whole body was pulsing twitching in time with the
beating of his heart.

'That was a weird dream,' Tommy thought.

It wasn't the first time he'd been woken by a dream involving Roy.

Tommy looked at the alarm clock and noticed that it was time to go over to
Roy's house to do his morning workout. Tommy looked at Danny sleeping
soundly and decided not to wake him. He looked peaceful, almost angelic as
he slumbered. Tommy got out of bed and dressed in some sweats. As he
grabbed his jacket from the closet he realized that it could be a bit
chilly since it was the second week of September. By the time Tommy made it
out the door he'd calmed down. He was more than wide awake and was brimming
with questions.

Tommy had been curious about Roy since the first day they'd met. Though it
had just been a dream, it had seemed so real. He needed answers. He'd
reasoned that something was going on with Roy but he couldn't understand
what it was. He always seemed to be in the right place at the right
time. Tommy also felt that Roy could somehow read his mind, even though
he'd dismissed the idea as preposterous.

There was a chill in the air and Tommy was glad he'd brought his jacket. It
wasn't that cold, perhaps round 50 degrees but it was windy and that made
it feel much colder. The stars twinkled in the moonless sky. A car passed
by, probably starting early to beat traffic on the long commute to downtown
Chicago. Tommy quickened his pace anxious to get out of the cold,
maintaining a brisk walk until he was in Roy's driveway. As Tommy
approached the front door it opened with Roy in his sweats ready to run.

"I had a disturbing dream that woke me up this morning," Tommy announced as
though expecting some kind of explanation. He wasn't sure what kind of
reaction he would get out of Roy but he certainly didn't expect the one he
got. For the first time Tommy could remember, Roy looked surprised.

"Come sit down for a minute Tommy," Roy stated gesturing back into the
house. "We need to talk." Roy led Tommy into the dining room. He pulled out
a chair and gestured for Tommy to sit. He then went into the kitchen and
pored two glasses and sat down across from Tommy looking him in the eye.

"Yes we do, Roy, Tommy agreed. "You were in my dream and it woke me up."

"We were being chased, down cobblestone streets," Roy said with a distant
look on his face."

"How do you know that?" Tommy demanded shouting loudly.

"It's a long story Tommy and it's high time I told you. When I was your age
I had a friend who was forty years old. He took me to the YMCA and sparked
me interest in physical fitness. I was an only child and my mom was very
poor. One day he betrayed my trust in him and he made sexual advances. I
freaked. I ran out of his apartment and into a thunderstorm. I ran until I
was in the middle of an open field. I cursed my Father, my Mother, my
friend, and then I cursed God. A bolt of lightning struck less than a foot
away from me. I was standing on the highest point in the park I'm surprised
that it didn't hit me directly. If it had I'd probably be dead. It did
however send enough electricity through my body to stop my heart. I then
had what's called a near death experience.

"I saw a bright light and his entire life flashed before his eyes. I seemed
to be floating, felling warm and comfortable and everything was out of
focus. I heard a commanding voice saying, 'to him much is given - much is
expected!'"

"What's it mean?" Tommy asked.

"I was a bit confused about that too," he confessed looking confused for a
moment. "The next thing I knew I was looking up at a police officer. He was
talking to me and I really didn't hear much of what he was saying. Then I
did hear him, but his lips weren't moving. He was thinking. I could hear
him thinking what a dumb kid I was. Over the next few days every time I was
around someone I would hear their thoughts. I almost thought that I had
died and entered the twilight zone.

"I knew a kid at school that was what we called in those days a holy
roller. He belonged to a Pentecostal church and he had said that he'd seen
some strange things happen at his church. I told him what happened to me
and he said that I sounded like I had one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit
called discernment. He invited me to this rally down at the Civic Center in
Oakland with this evanlisgous called Kathryn Kuhlman. He said that she had
lots of gifts of the spirit including healing and that lots of people would
be there to be healed.

"I had a real personal battle for the next few days. I almost didn't go. My
mind kept telling me that it was silly to seek help; that I could handle
this gift of mine on my own. But I went anyway. The Civic Center seated
around six thousand people and I was sure to come in about twenty minutes
late and sneak up to the very top of the back row of seat as far away from
the platform as I could get. I was at least three hundred yards away as I
sat in the back row.

"I no more than sat down when this lady leading a song said, 'Stop the
music. Someone just came in and sat down. This person is a young man,
perhaps fourteen years old. You are here seeking answers. You don't know
Jesus. The devil has been trying to keep you from coming here and finding
Jesus tonight. You have a gift that you don't understand.'

"I knew she was talking about me." Roy continued. "The place was packed!
Six thousand people and she was talking about me. I wanted to get up and
run out the nearest exit.

"'You're way back in the top,' she continued pointing right at me. 'I know
you're scared, but I need you to come down here. I have something for
you. It's a gift, a gift of life. For you were dead, and now you live. You
were raised from the dead just as our Lord Jesus was raised from the dead.'

"By now I was totally freaked out," Roy explained, "but I got out of my
seat and walked down the aisle with several thousand people looking at
me. I guess that they were intrigued with someone who came back from the
dead because they were all staring. It was the first time in my life I was
the center of attention. I hated it. I didn't even like to get up in front
of the class and give an oral report. I walked up to the dais to where she
started talking.

"'In the time it took you to walk down here. God showed me your entire
life, past present and future,' the lady started saying. 'God has already
given you the gift of discerning people's thoughts. This will increase. You
will see visions of the future as I just saw your future. You will be given
great power. For many years no one will even know about your powers. You
will be like the profits of old. Whatever you speak in faith will
happen. You will be there at the end and you will lock the door, for you
are the key! However, you will not reach your full measure of power until
you find your partner. Together the world will love both of you and fear
you both!'

"Then she touched me right on the forehead. I went down on the floor, but I
was no longer in my body. I was back in front of the white light. Visions
of people and places started flashing through my head. The best way to
describe the experience is like in the movie 'The Matrix' when they would
download information directly from the computer to the brain. Within just a
few seconds my mind was processing thousands of pieces of data at
once. After what seemed like days but was actually only a few minutes I
woke up still on the floor. At that point I know more about God then anyone
alive and I was just a kid.

Tommy mind had quickly and efficiently processed everything Roy and saying
along with his own observations since meeting Roy. He started freaking
out. 'It all makes sense; if Roy is a prophet, like they taught me in
Sunday school, he should be able to separate the offenders fast. If I'm his
partner then that lady must have been referring to me. Everyone says we are
in the last days. My Dad will have a stroke when he finds out!' He voiced
his thoughts, not even realizing that his lips were moving "I'm your
partner" Tommy whispered.

"Yes you are," Roy nodded.

"But I'm just a kid," Tommy protested.

"Not any more Tommy, you've been emancipated! It hit him like a bail of
hay. "Are we the two wittiness for the book of Revelations?" Tommy bleared
out looking disturbed.

"You're a real bright boy Tommy," Roy replied, "Perhaps!"

"My Dad will never believe it," Tommy stated. "He hates all his sons and
yet he claims to love God."

"Your Dad will have a rude awaking someday Tommy," Roy replied smiling.

"So tell me Roy," Tommy said sarcastically, "what's up with the gloves?"

"After that meeting when I had that experience the same thing happened to
everyone I touched," he explained. "It didn't take long for people to
notice. Important people. The CIA was doing research in those days on the
supernatural as a weapon of the cold war. They found me to be their best
asset."

"I'm really freaked out right now," Tommy said. "Lets just run, I need some
time to process all of this.

On the way out the door Roy said to Tommy, "this is an important date for
you Tommy. You'll want to remember it and mark it on your calendar. It's
September 11, 2001. Hopefully today will be a calm day and we'll be able to
talk some things out after school."
