Chapter Two
Talk To Me

Apart from the weird incident with David, it was a pretty normal day for
the boys. They stayed in the TV room most of the morning flicking through
the music channels. Ben another good friend joined them and was asking
about the new kid. Nathan told them what had happened outside and Ben was
taking the piss out off how Nathan had been decked by someone smaller than
him.

Ben was a good friend to both Chris and Nathan but he wasn't as close as
the other two. He was one of those people who can be a bit over baring
after a while. And sometimes you just want to tell him to shut up. He was
about the same height as Nathan but no were near as good looking, he was Mr
average at best. He had really short shaved in hair that was the same
length all over. Some acne scars from the year previous which gave him a
more rugged look and he had a bit of stubble going on like a five O clock
shadow but that was more due to laziness rather than an attempt to grow
anything. He wasn't particularly athletic either bar the odd game of footie
here and there, but somehow with all his faults managed to bed loads of
girls, which he regularly threw in both Chris and Nathan's faces.

Out of the three of them Chris had to be the most inexperienced when it
came to girls. Nathan had an ex girlfriend who had just left the home and
got a place of her own. She was eighteen and now that she was moving on
into the big bright world she had decided that dating someone younger was
no longer good for her image and dumped him for some guy who had owned the
bar she was working at. Chris regularly got taunted for his lack of success
with women but he didn't bother. It was only Ben after all. What did he
care what Ben thought.

After Lunch they went into town, looking through shops, eyeing up girls
laughing, joking and generally having a good time larking about. It was
about 5:00pm when they started making there way back home for tea.

"Damn it!" Said Nathan "I should have got you a present for your birthday
when we where in town."

"Yeah Chris what do you want? I need to get you something too." Said Ben.

"I've told you I don't want anything honestly. Its just..."

Nathan cut him off

"Just another day. We know, you keep telling us. We're still going to get
you something though"

"How about we take you up Central Drive, to one of those whore houses?" Ben
asked. "God knows it's time you popped your cherry."

"Shut up Ben." Said Nathan."

"Seriously guys I don't know what the big deal is. What's so special about
it?"

"Your turning sixteen, that's a big deal." Replied Nathan.

"If you say so, but there is much more important things in life than bloody
parties and sex."

Ben and Nathan looked at each other and burst into fits of laughter.

"Oh shut up." Chris said as they carried on walking up to St Paul's.

It was just a normal tea time in the home. Lots of rabble and noise but
what do you expect with nearly twenty kids all living in the same house. It
was Chris that noticed that David hadn't turned up for Tea.

"Hey Trish." He called down the table. "Where's the new guy... that David?"

"Oh, he said he wasn't feeling well and went to bed about an hour ago."

"He's proper weird that one." Steven called out. "A right little freak
show"

"Hey that's enough." Snapped Trish.

Although she was a really nice person and most of the kids loved her, Trish
had a tough side and could come down hard on you if you weren't playing by
the rules.

"I wont have any of that talk. David is knew here and we should all try and
make him feel welcome. You all know what your first day was like and how
scared you all were. You should be making friends with him and welcoming
him to the family not gossiping about him all day behind his back"

"Well it would be a hell of a lot easier if he could talk." Replied Steven.

"He's just shy give him a few days. He will come out of his shell." Said
Trish.

Everyone sort of calmed down a bit after that. Trish had stamped her
authority on the matter and that was final. No one really questioned
her. She was fair and fun to have around. After tea Nathan, Ben and Chris
sat in the TV room with some others watching Britain's Got Talent. It was a
good show. They had some funny acts and everyone was laughing as this dopey
old women who was trying to make a pig dance. In the end the poor pig just
walked off the stage and left her to do her own thing. Needless to say she
did not get through to the next round.

The show finished at about 10:00pm and Trish usually liked to have everyone
up in there rooms for 11 and lights out for twelve so the boys made there
way up to there rooms.

"Hey Nathan can I come and sit in with you guys for a bit? I don't like the
thought of sitting in silence with David for the next hour knowing you two
are probably laughing your heads off next door."

"Course you can you Muppet, thought that's what you was going to do anyway"

Nathan and Ben shared the room next to Chris. It was pretty much the same
as his but slightly bigger. The lads sat up till 11:30 playing cards and
laughing about nothing when Chris noticed the time.

"Hey guys, I better go. Don't want Trish on my case."

"Ok mate." Said Nathan. "Good luck with Mr happy."

"Thanks." He said with a sarcastic grin. He left the room and closed the
door, making his way to his room a few feet down the hall.

He paused at the door listening inside...Nothing. He slowly turned the
handle not wanting to wake David up and quietly opened the door. The room
was in darkness. The only light was the moonlight shining through the
window. The curtains hadn't been closed. Chris could see the outline of
David's body underneath the covers of the bed next to his.

"He must be sleeping." Chris thought to himself. He crept over to his own
bed being careful not to stand on anything and started to undress.

He stopped when he got to his boxers. He couldn't sleep nude anymore. Not
when he had a room mate a couple of feet from him, that would be weird. He
got into bed as quietly as he could and pulled the covers over himself. He
stared out of the window at the stars and the half moon just visible
through the light cloud that was now passing by it. He was watching the
strange shapes they were making and very quickly he started to doze off.

About half an hour later he was almost completely gone when something
disturbed him. It was a strange whimpering sound. He listened harder. He
looked over to David's bed and could see the covers shaking slightly in
time with the sobs.

"David?" He whispered. "Are you ok?"

The crying stopped and there was silence. No one spoke after that and after
a while Chris fell into a sleep filled with strange dreams, with more
sobbing and crying, then the faint whisper of "I miss you mum."

It was 7:00am when Chris was awoken to the sound of rustling. He turned
over in his bed to see David there getting dressed. He was surprised to see
him and had almost forgot he had a room mate. He was staring at David
getting dressed almost admiring his body, (in a guy sort of way). He
noticed how defined he was. He was well toned for his age, no doubt about
that. He already had a nice little six pack forming, with a thin trail of
hair leading down into his jeans. He had strong arms with some light brown
hairs poking out from under them, nice pecks and...

"Why am I staring at him?" Chris thought. "God I wish I looked that good"

"Morning." Said Chris. "Have a good sleep?" He asked.

David just looked at him. It wasn`t quite an awkward silence but it was
definitely tense. You could almost hear the cogs and gears going round
inside the boy's heads as they stared.

"God he has nice eyes." Thought David. "I've never seen eyes like that
before. They're not quite blue but they're not grey they`re..."

"Wow." Thought Chris. "He is a good looking guy. How did he get so tanned?
It's not even been that hot. If only he would smile though."

There silence continued between the two boys as they just stared at each
other. There was something weird in the air, and it wasn't just the way
David was behaving, it was something else and they could both feel it. It
was Chris that once again broke the silence.

"Where you crying last night?" He asked.

Without a reply or even an acknowledgement of the question David pulled on
his t-shirt and left the room.

"Why can't people just leave me alone." David thought as he stormed down
the corridor.

He made his way down the two flights of stairs and could smell the cooking
wafting from the kitchen. He ignored it's call. He didn`t feel like
eating. The thought of it made him sick. He went out the back door and into
the garden. He took in the scene in front of him. The garden was huge and
filled with trees and flowers. There was lots of grass and some picnic
style tables and benches that you get in parks and outside pubs and
restaurants.

He sat down in one of the nearest benches and leant on the table with his
head in his hands. He started to cry. He was thinking about his mother. She
had died three years ago in a car crash. He missed her more than anything.

"God if you could see me now. Why did you leave me? Why the fuck did you
have to die and leave me with that bastard? I miss you Mum. I need you. I'm
all alone."

He heard the sound of the back door closing and turned around to see Chris
standing there. Chris could see he was upset.

"Why do you keep following me?" David demanded. "You did this to me
yesterday. Don't you get it? I want to be alone."

Chris walked over to meet him.

"I need to talk to you." He said

"I don't want to talk."

"Look David we are sharing a room we sort of have to communicate at some
point. This is just stupid."

"Stupid? You think I'm fucking stupid? Well I'm sorry ok Chris or whatever
your name is. I'm fucking sorry for coming in here and being all weird, but
guess what. I don't want to fucking be here and I don't want to talk to
anyone about it so please just back off before I have to make you."

"Fine suit yourself. Be alone."

David once again skipped his meal but apart from that it was just another,
regular breakfast at St Paul's. Chris just tried to block David out of his
mind and carried on as if nothing had happened.

"So how did it go last night?" Nathan asked whilst poring milk into his
cereal.

"What do you mean?"

"With that David guy. Did he say anything?"

"Oh that. No he didn't say anything, he was asleep when I went in"

"Looks like he's not turning up for breakfast." Nathan said with a mouthful
of cornflakes.

"Yeah looks like it."

"Are you ok?" Nathan asked.

"Yeah why?"

"You just seem a little out of touch or something."

"No I'm good said Chris with a laugh, I've just not woke up yet that's
all."

The boys said nothing more about the matter but Chris was not being
completely honest. He still had David on his mind. But he wasn't thinking
about the argument they had just had. He was thinking about the way he had
watched him getting dressed and how his eyes had wondered all over his
body. Also he was thinking about the way they looked at each other. What
did it all mean? He felt strange and a bit confused.

"Why won't he just speak to me?" He thought.

The day went on and Chris's head cleared enough for him to beat both Ben
and Nathan 3-0 on FIFA. They had spent most of the day on the play station
and were glad when they were called through for tea as they had only had a
quick lunch.

"I'm just too good." Chris laughed as the took they're places at the
dinning table.

"Yeah, yeah next time mate, your going down" Ben said

"I think that's just wishful thinking you bender." Laughed Nathan.

"Hey fuck you Nate, I'm not queer!"

"Oh calm down for fuck sake, it was a joke."

Chris caught Nathans eye. He was looking up and down the table and hadn't
started eating yet.

"What's up Chris?" He asked whilst taking a big forkful of spaghetti.

"Hmmm, oh nothing, it's just that David kid hasn't came for Tea again."

"So what do you care?" Asked Ben.

"He hasn't eaten in two days. That's not healthy"

"It's not your problem though is it."

"I suppose"

After tea Ben and Nathan went back to the play station but Chris went up to
his room to see if David was ok. He knocked on the door...There was no
answer. He opened it and David was lying on top of his bed fully clothed.

"You ok?" Asked Chris.

He didn't reply.

"I've brought you some pudding." Said Chris. "Thought you might be hungry."

He sat the dessert on the side chest of drawers next to David's bed and he
looked up. Their eyes met and it happened all over again. Thoughts where
racing through David's mind.

"Why is he trying so hard to be nice to me? Why can't he just leave me
alone? What the fuck did I do wrong to be put in a place like this?
Why...Why the hell is he so damn cute!"

They continued to stare at each other but no one spoke Chris turned around
and was about to leave.

"Goodnight." He said as he shut the door behind him.

It was a strange night for Chris. He went back downstairs to join his
friends but never really had much input in conversation and he didn't win
any of the games that they played.

"Ha, told you I'd beat you." Shouted Ben as the whistle blew at 4-0 to Ben.

"Yeah well done mate. I think I'm going to go to bed guys."

"But it's only 9:30." Said Nathan.

"Yeah I know, but I don't really feel well to be honest. I just want to go
to bed."

And with a final goodnight he left.

He got up to his room and once again knocked on the door...No answer. He
opened it to find David in the exact same place except now his cloths where
on the floor and he was under the covers. He hadn't touched the pudding. It
was getting dark outside and by the time Chris had got undressed and got
into bed the stars were visible in the sky.

"Night." He called out. There was no reply.

He woke up an hour later to sobs and looked over to Dave's bed. It was hard
to make out in the dark and he had just woke up and his eyes needed time to
focus.

"You ok?" He called out in the darkness...

No answer.

"David?"...

No answer

"Right fuck it."

And with that he got out of bed and stormed over to the light switch. He
turned it on and looked over to David. It took a moment for his eyes to
adjust. Tears where streaming down David's face and his pillow was wet from
all the crying he'd been doing.

"What the fuck is wrong with you?" He shouted...

No answer.

"For fuck sake TALK TO ME!"

" I'm all alone he cried out!" In response to Chris's shouting.

"Your not alone mate, I'm here, we`re here, you`ve got Trish. You just need
some time to settle in. It would help if you spoke to people instead of
being Mr Mysterious."

"I just want my Mum."

Chris sat on the edge of his bed and put his hand on his shoulder.

"Don't fucking touch me!!!"

He was freaking out and started punching into Chris.

Chris didn't know what to do and instinctively just held onto him till he
stopped throwing punches and eventually just fell into his arms crying.

"Shhhh, shhhh, come on David mate, it's ok, don't worry it's ok."

He continued to cry but he was calming down.

"Shhhh that's it mate just let it out."

"The bastard raped me."

"No, no one's gonna hurt you it's ok I'm here I've got you."

"No you don't understand." He sobbed. "My dad...My dad raped me. That's why
I`m in here. I`m not aloud to live there anymore."

"Oh David" Chris hugged him tight.

He had never felt so sorry for anyone so much in his life.

"God you've got it worse than me." He thought.

David pulled away and looked Chris straight in the eyes.

"Chris please you can't tell anyone. I don't want anyone to know."

"Of course not. I wouldn't do that to you. David you can trust me I
promise. I'm your friend, that is if you'll let me be?"

They looked at each other and for the first time David smiled. "Wow." Said
Chris.

"What?"

"You. When you smile...It's nice...You look cute. They had that moment
again. They stared into each others eyes but this time it was different
this time they both knew what it was. There was know escaping it, and there
was no denying it. This was lust.

They stayed like that for a minute or so. Both boys just as scared as the
other. It was as if they where thinking in sync because they both leaned in
at exactly the same moment and then it happened. They kissed. All the pain
and all the worry they both had felt in there lives seemed to dissolve
around them in that moment. It didn't seem to matter anymore. They had each
other. They where safe. It was wonderful. They explored each others mouths
as they're heartbeats where racing. It was magical, it was perfect, it was
bliss, it was...over.

The boys broke apart and stared at each other in silence. You could have
heard a pin drop as they just stared into each others eyes. It felt like
forever...

"I think you should eat that pudding now. You must be hungry." Said Chris
to break the silence.

"Thanks." He replied and took the dessert from the chest of drawers and
started to eat.
