When Nothing Goes Right
Chapter 2
Shit! Shit! Shit! I'm not gay, I'm not!!! He had no right to do
that, that BASTARD!!! He knew exactly what he was doing.
If you're not gay then why didn't you push him away? That
little voice in my head asked
I was shocked that's all, I just froze. I told myself.
You know you liked it, just like you had those butterflies in
your stomach when you looked into those deep blue eyes of his.
NO! That was just the usual nervous feeling I always got
from having someone's attention all on me.
Come on just admit it; this was a different kind of feeling.
Shut up!! I told my mind.
I was so confused. Even though I hated Zander's guts, I think
I was developing some weird kind of feelings towards him that I
couldn't quite define. I decided though to just forget about that and
worried about what I was going to have to face at school. I was a
little wary about going to school the next day. I'm sure what
happened yesterday would be all around school.
As I stepped through the doors, walking in the hallways, there
was whispering, well way more whispering than normal.
"Hey Ortiz, you wanna suck my dick?" some guy yelled.
"I'm sure he's going out shopping with all the girls to pick out
cute little outfits." Another guy joked in a fake girly voice.
I ignored them as I climbed the stairs to the second floor and
walked to my locker. When I got my books, I noticed Zander
walking up with his best friend, some girl named Angela Bower.
They called her Angie for short. She had been one of those girls
who had asked me out back in the 10th grade but of course I had
refused. It wasn't that she was ugly or anything. If fact she was
very beautiful, long black hair, nice green eyes, and a body that all
the guys seemed to lust after. She was very popular and smart, but
for the reason told before I just turned her down. She was cool
about it though and left me alone. She definitely wasn't one of
those girls who talked about me because I turned them down. She
was nice.
She and Zander passed by and Zander gave me this mean
smirk like he knew he was the cause of why my day was already
starting off bad. I was so mad at that point that I wanted to punch
him, but instead I bit my lip, lowered my eyes to the ground, and
walked away.
**********************************************************************************
"What was that all about?" Angie asked Zander, while
walking with him to his locker.
"What are you talking about?" Zander asked her with an
innocent look on his face.
"That look you gave Skyler, and don't think I didn't see it,
cause I did." She told him giving him a look that said you better not
lie to me.
"It's nothing the guy's just a freak." He said dismissing the
look she gave him.
"Zander! The guy already has it bad enough. I feel sorry for
him. I think if he just had some friends then he wouldn't be such a
loner all the time." She said sympathetically.
"Oh please, the guy doesn't have any friends because he's a
psycho..." Zander started.
"ZANDER!!! You of all people shouldn't judge anyone, you
don't even know him." Angie said getting mad.
"Oh and I suppose you do, I mean I know you used to have
some humongous crush on him 2 years ago but that doesn't mean
he's not a freak. Plus the whole school thinks he's gay anyway so
don't get your hopes too high again." Zander snapped.
"That's just some dumb rumor, and I'm over him by the way. I
just feel sorry for him; he needs friends and just because people
say he is doesn't mean it's true. Did he actually say that he was
gay?" Angie snapped back.
"Well not exactly, I guess you can say I'm sort of the reason
why those rumors started." Zander said with a wicked smile.
"WHAT?! Zander how could you do a thing like that? She
asked suddenly stopping in the middle of the hall, staring at him in
disbelief.
"What, he caught me at a bad time. Me and Rick had just
broken up." Zander said, his smile turning sad.
Angie just looked at him pissed.
"Just because you're going through a bad time doesn't mean
you have the right to make others miserable with you. I'm so not
talking to you right now." She said and stormed off to class leaving
a bewildered Zander staring off at her feeling guilty.
"Fine, I guess I'll apologize." He said to himself as he
continued to his locker.
**********************************************************************************
The rest of the week was just as bad as the first day and as
the days went on I think I hated Zander more and more. Each time
someone taunted me with their gay jokes the only face I saw was
his. Zander with that mean smirk on his face. He was everyone
who talked about me to my face, whispered behind my back, and
gave me those looks. This was all his fault.
I felt like I was about to burst from keeping in all my emotions.
This wasn't fair. This school was supposed to be all opened
minded, except of course when it came to me, I was the school
freak all because I liked to be alone. What was that all about?
I was glad the day was almost over. The weekend would be
starting soon and I'd have a much needed break from all of this. It's
about time too because I swear if one more person says one more
thing to me I think I'll snap.
I never fought before but I was about ready to let loose on the
next guy with the smart mouth. Just one more period to go.
PLEASE!!! Make this day go by faster.
**********************************************************************************
"I hope you know the only reason why I'm taking it easy on
you is because I know you going through a bad breakup and you
need my support." Angie said to Zander.
They were both sitting in the back during their last period
which was study period.
"But I still expect you to apologize to Skyler, he didn't deserve
your wrath and he's been through hell all this week."
"Great now he knows what I'm going through." Zander stated.
"Having your heart broken is different than having the whole
school talking about you, it isn't the same thing." Angie whispered
angrily.
"I know its worse." He said bitterly.
Angie just gave him a mean glare. And he glared right back at
her a few seconds before his face softened.
"I know, I know, and I'm sorry I've been so bitter lately, it's just
hard. I thought that he was the one for me, then he leaves me, and
for some air-headed cheerleader. I mean can you believe that."
Zander said sadly.
Angie's angry face softened too. "I know sweetie, but you're
better off without him anyway. I never like the fact that he wanted to
hide you like his dirty little secret. You can do soo much better than
him, trust me. And don't worry you will find someone so much
better. All you need to do is wait and be patient. Love will find you."
Angie said trying to be comforting.
"Oh I am so done with relationships, no more for me. I can't
believe I fooled myself into believing that love exists. Well I don't
believe in it anymore." Zander whispered sadly, wiping a tear rolling
down his cheek, getting lost in his thoughts.
"What? You can't just give up, you just need give it time"
Angie said a little worried.
"I'm not gonna let my heart be broken again, never. It's a
promise that I'm making to myself. Besides I know that even if I did
find someone I know that I'd just end up like my parents stuck in a
relationship because they're scared of being alone. I don't wanna
end up like that." Zander told her determinedly.
Angie looked at him sympathetically when he mentioned his
parents. He had mentioned to her that they weren't doing to well in
their marriage.
"Don't worry about me Angie. I'll be fine, okay. And yes I'll go
apologize to the loser if it will make you happy."
"ZANDER!!!" Angie frowned.
"Okay, okay, I won't call him names anymore." Zander said
giving her that smile of his that made him so likable, and Angie
smiled back at him.
"Good." She told him.
"God, you really know how to make a person feel guilty."
Zander said.
"Well someone's got to keep you in line or everyone would
just think you were a bitch. It's a tough job, but someone's got to do
it" she said as they both started laughing.
"Well I'm glad I got you to protect my reputation, but seriously,
thanks Angie for sticking with me and putting up with my
bitchyness." He told her.
"You know I'm always her for you." She said
The bell rang, ending the period and school. Zander and
Angie packed up their homework that they had been ignoring and
walked out to go to their lockers.
"Look, there he is, better now then later." Angie said
"Ok I'll be right back, meet downstairs ok?"
"Ok, I'll be downstairs." Angie said giving him a quick kiss,
and then heading for the stairway.
**********************************************************************************
I had been walking with my eyes to the floor, glad that this
day... this week was finally over. I didn't want to look up at
anybody for the fear that I'd beat the crap out of the next person to
give me a dirty look. Yes looking at the floor, humming to myself
seemed safe. All I need to do is make it down the stairs and out
the door. Unfortunately fate was working against me, as usual.
"Hey Ortiz you gonna let some girl kiss your bitch like that." A
guy yelled
"Maybe he's the bitch." His friend shouted
I closed my eyes still looking down, breathing hard trying to
keep my cool.
"Grow up losers." A girl's voice said as she walked past me
down the stairs.
I still had my eyes close trying to close in my rising anger, but
then I heard whistling.
"Ortiz, your booty call is here." The same guy yelled out.
"Fuck you!" said a voice and hearing it made my blood boil.
I quickly opened my eyes to see a frustrated Zander standing
in front of me. At that time I wasn't even thinking. I took one look at
him and all the emotion that I bottled up from the whole week
seemed to spill out of me and I didn't even take notice that his 'fuck
you' was directed towards the two guys who were taunting me. I
didn't even realize what I was doing until my fist, powered by a
weeks worth of anger and hatred for this guy, connected to his
face and he was falling down the steps. He fell into a nasty heap
on the first floor.
Everyone was shocked. They had never seen me raise a
finger to anybody. There was silence and then down below I heard
a girl screaming.
"Oh My God, Zander!!!"
Oh crap!!! What did I do!
So what did you guys think, is it getting good, or is it getting
bad, feedback is much appreciated. adsherrill@msn.com
