I just don't know how I could fall in love with someone after only one
encounter, but I did and it felt so right. I just kept waiting with deep
anticipation for the day that I can feel his warm embrace once again. To
feel his lips press against mine. Every letter that I read left me wanting
for more. Then one day, I recieved a phone call.

"Hey, how are you?", the voice said on the other end.

"Oh my god it's you!" I yelled.

"Yes it's me. I am sorry to say this but, I will be going to Vietnam in a
few days," John said in a remorseful tone. All these weeks, I've been
praying every chance I got for God to spare him from this fate, but I guess
god decided to give me "the fickled finger of fate".

"It will be okay", he said, "I'll be back to you in no time".

"I hope so, I truly hope so", I said. We talked a little more then he
closed with "My love will fly to you". After hanging up the reciever, I
couldn't hold back the emotion any longer, I broke down and started bawling
my eyes out.

My sister, who is one year my junior, walked in and asked, "What's wrong
Charlie?"

"My friend, is going of to war", I said.

"Is he your friend or your 'friend'?" she asked.

"What is that supposed to mean?" I asked.

"Is he your friend or boyfriend?" she asked bluntly.

"How did you know I'm a queer?" I asked curiously.

"What do you think I am? Headless. Number 1, you've never gone out with a
girl. Number 2, I've seen how you look at Gregg Brady on TV, and Number 3,
your favorite song is 'My Boyfriend's Back'", she retorted.

"I am that obvious?" I asked.

"Uh huh, but I love you anyways", she said. "Charlie, what your friend
needs from you now is for you to be strong. He needs you to have faith in
him and in yourself," she said as she was hugging me.
