Chapter 8

Luke had watched in silence as Ptolemy was caned; instinctively he knew
that Massa Charles expected this of him. And as he'd watched, he'd stood in
the position of respect with his feet apart and his hands clasped behind
his back and resting on his ass.

Ptolemy's punishment had affected him adversely and left him feeling
unsettled. The effectiveness with which Massa Charles had dispassionately
applied the cane had shocked Luke and he'd felt pity for his cousin as,
afterwards, he stood teary-eyed and ruefully rubbed his striped
buttocks. Obviously, the pain that Ptolemy feels is intense and Luke now
knows that chastisements at River's Bend are for real and not merely "play
acting".

And beyond any doubt, he also understands that he won't be spared should he
offend Massa Charles. Fleetingly, he has second thoughts about becoming a
voluntary slave and his immediate inclination is to tell Massa Charles that
he's decided to leave and return home to his parents taking his slave,
Nestor with him.

And yet something holds him back from making such a hasty decision. It's
true that watching as Ptolemy was caned had disturbed him but, at the same
time, it had also been very masochistically arousing. Luke is conscious
that his cock is turgid with a newfound rigidity he'd never experienced
before visiting River's Bend.

And he is aware that he isn't alone in his state of arousal. Both Massa
Charles's and Sir Yancy's trousers barely conceal their own magnificent
erections. Why, even Ptolemy himself sports an erection that would do
justice to Massa Charles's beloved stallion, Pegasus.

Luke decides that as Ptolemy appears to have taken his caning as nothing
out of the ordinary and, apart from his striped buttocks, he is none the
worse for wear, then he should remain silent.

Meanwhile, Charles and Yancy sit at the table drinking the freshly brewed
coffee that Ptolemy serves them.

"Yancy, I think it time to unwrap my new acquisition and see what the outer
coverings conceal.'

Then turning to Luke, Massa Charles instructs him. "Right boy, let's see
you naked. Shuck off those clothes!"

Luke stoops to remove his shoes and stockings and as he does so he listens
intently to the conversation between Massa Charles and Sir Yancy.

"Yancy my boy, a word of advice if I may? Do you remember what I said
earlier about white slaves being naturally lazy? You must never be hesitant
about punishing a white slave. Indeed it's the only way he'll learn total
dedication and obedience to his master's will. From my experience, a white
slave never stops learning. Their training is ongoing and you should remain
forever vigilant."

"You surprise me, Charles! After twenty-two years, I'd have thought Ptolemy
would be fully trained into your ways."

"You'd think so, wouldn't you Yancy? But he's not as this morning has
proved. I'd told him to return to the house but he wilfully saw fit to
disobey me and he stopped off in the fields. I don't know what it is about
white slaves. They aren't altogether unintelligent creatures but they do
seem to find it difficult to fully follow through on an instruction."

"Well thanks for the advice, Charles! I'll keep it in mind. Can I ask - do
you always use the cane when punishing Ptolemy?"

"Most times I do, Yancy. In the past, I did resort to the strap or the
paddle if Ptolemy's punishments warranted it. But that was early on in his
training. And I prefer not to use the whip as there's always the risk of
marking his hide and, as I keep him permanently naked, I wouldn't want to
spoil his appearance with a cut up back."

"And yet you use the whip on your field-slaves, Charles?"

"They are different, Yancy. My white house-slaves add to the ascetics of my
home. But my field-slaves are merely work animals and their only purpose is
to work to the utmost of their abilities and maximize my profits. Therefore
my field-slaves must be whipped to get the maximum effort from them and
that's why my overseers use cow skin whips. In my experience cow skin makes
the most effective whips and my slaves fear them. Which is as it should be
with all slaves. Fear is a great motivator for any slave - even a house
buck like Ptolemy. Another word of advice Yancy. If you have a body slave -
and while you're a guest under my roof, one will be assigned to you - avoid
the whip for ascetic reasons and use the paddle. It's every bit as
effective as the whip. Believe me, the paddle can make even the strongest
slave holler like a hog hung upside down for slaughtering."

"The paddle can be very effective, Charles!" Yancy replies bitterly. "I
know from personal experience."

"You've been beaten with a paddle, Yancy?"

"Yes Charles about two years ago. Robert Trevannion had my ass paddled as a
punishment."

"Then retribution is called for, Yancy." And he adds ominously. "We'll
attend to that at a later time."

Massa Charles words are a veiled threat directed at Luke which aren't lost
on him. He shudders at their implication for he well remembers the occasion
when Yancy - or Nestor as he was at the time - was ass paddled. He can't
remember what the young slave's offence had been but it must have been
serious for his father to order the teenager to be strung up naked by the
heels in the stables and beaten. Luke remembers that the coachman - a
strong brute of a slave - had used the paddle to good effect. Now, it would
seem that he is to be the sacrificial lamb offered up on the altar of
retribution. Suddenly, Luke is convulsed by fright.


Luke's thoughts are rudely interrupted by an angry bellow from Massa
Charles.

"Move your lazy, white ass, boy! I told you to shuck down. Do it and be
quick about it. Start at the top and work down. Remove your coat and
shirt...... NOW!"

Startled by Massa Charles's angry admonishment, Luke moves quickly to
obey. He looks to where Massa Charles and Sir Yancy are sitting and he sees
the smirk on his former slave's face. Obviously, Sir Yancy is enjoying his
erstwhile master's humiliation at being made to strip naked ready for an
inspection. Often, Luke had been present when his father had gathered the
family's slaves in the stables and ordered them to shuck down ready for the
periodic inspections to assess their health and wellbeing. His father had
made no distinction between the male and female slaves. All stood naked and
shamefaced before their master and his son and were subjected to the same
humiliating and degrading inspections of their bodies.

Suddenly, Luke is aware of that same shame and humiliation. Yet strangely,
he finds the prospect of standing naked before Massa Charles and Sir Yancy
as very enticing. Is this his own dark desires at play?

Once more, Massa Charles gives the order for Luke to undress.

"Undress, boy and strip naked. Yancy, it may be necessary to encourage
him." Massa Charles exclaims. "Will you do me the honor of supervising him
as he shucks down? You can use the cane I used on Ptolemy to hurry him
along."

"It would be my pleasure Charles." Yancy answers with alacrity.

Luke tremblingly watches as Sir Yancy retrieves the cane from its ornate
case and swishes it through the air as he approaches Luke.

Luke yelps as the cane cuts across the back of his thighs. The material of
his trouser does lessen the cane's impact but still his flesh stings from
the sudden, sharp pain. Once more Yancy applies the cane as he orders Luke
to.

"HURRY UP! BOY. WE DON'T HAVE ALL DAY TO WASTE ON YOU!"

Hastily, a much chastened Luke begins to unbutton his coat and vainly looks
around for somewhere to place it. Momentarily, he stands bewildered and
knowing no better, he drops it onto the floor.

With an exasperated sigh, Massa Charles stands and walks to where Luke is
standing. Luke is caught off guard as Massa Charles delivers a stinging
slap to the right side of his face. Luke cries out with the unexpectedness
and pain of the slap and he cringes under the verbal barrage of Massa
Charles's abuse.

"Not like that, slave. Fold it neatly and place on the chair nearest to
you.  As a slave you'll have no further use for clothing. I notice that you
and Sir Yancy are of the same size and I now give all your clothing and
personal items to Sir Yancy for his use. Consequently, you'll need to learn
to treat his property with greater respect. Now fold it neatly, place it on
the table and then remove your shirt."

The irony of Massa Charles's words isn't lost on Luke. As Massa Charles has
just pointed out the clothes that Luke is wearing and the ones contained in
his trunks and valises are no longer his - they now belong to Sir
Yancy. Luke wonders if he'll ever wear clothes again. In the short term -
for the duration of his stay at River's Bend - he knows that he won't. And
who knows; should he decide to stay on permanently at the plantation then
his nakedness will become 'de rigeur'. After all, Ptolemy has told him that
the natural state for Massa Charles's slaves is total nakedness.

Quickly, Luke neatly folds the jacket and places it on the chair nearest to
him. Yancy inspects it and when he is satisfied, he instructs Luke to
remove his shirt.

Luke unbuttons his shirt and slips it from his upper body. As he does so,
he hears an appreciative murmur from Massa Charles who is impressed by what
he is seeing of his newest acquisition. As Massa Charles visually appraises
Luke, he notes that the white boy has been blessed with both good looks and
a burgeoning though, as yet, not fully developed physique which is at odds
with his tender years and pampered lifestyle.

Massa Charles estimates Luke's height at around six feet tall and his
weight at somewhere in the region of one hundred and fifty to sixty
pounds. He has longish, slightly curling, golden blond hair, piercing blue
eyes, an aquiline nose which Massa Charles considers to be haughty and
annoyingly aristocratic - both traits will be beaten out of him- and very
full red lips.

Luke is broad-shouldered and his torso tapers down to a narrow waist. The
thickening slabs of his pectorals emphasize his developing chest and these,
in turn, are highlighted by two very prominent nipples. And nestled at the
mid-center of his flat stomach is a deeply indented navel. Luke's chest has
a light covering of hair which matches that on his head and straggling down
the center line of his belly is an intriguing treasure-trail of slightly
darker hair. As it disappears beneath the waistband of his trousers, it
tantalizingly hints at what is hidden there.

Luke neatly folds the shirt and places it on top of his coat. As he does
so, he is acutely aware of the play of the muscles of his upper body as
they ripple and flex with each of his movements. He's also aware that both
Massa Charles and Sir Yancy are intently watching him and that his naked
torso is the focus of their attention. Luke is overcome with shame and
embarrassment at stripping naked under the lustful gaze of the black man
who is laying claim to him as a slave.

Enforced nudity is something that Luke is familiar with; after all he'd
seen his father's slaves buck-assed naked on many occasions and he'd never
turned away in embarrassment. Quite the opposite is true; Luke had always
salivated at the sight of naked buck slave; although he'd been careful to
show bored indifference in front of his father lest he suspect Luke's dark
secret.

But nudity is frowned upon and not practiced by white folk. Rather it's
something they impose on their slaves and for that reason public displays
of nakedness by whites is considered improper.

Despite his almost cloistered life at home and the puritanical strictures
of his white, Baptist background, Luke isn't a prude and he has never been
ashamed of his own nudity, In fact, he'd reveled in it and often in the
privacy of his own room, with the door locked and the curtains drawn, he'd
stand in front of his mirror and peruse his nude body's reflection staring
back at him.

In the privacy of his bedchamber, Luke had never hesitated to bare his body
or to take pride in it. But always, when he did so, it was his
decision. This however is different. The choice is no longer his to
make. Now, he is being ordered to do it and to encourage him, Sir Yancy's
stands nearby with his cane at the ready.

Luke feels the helplessness of his situation and wishing to avoid any
further punishment, he bends at the waist and quickly removes his shoes and
socks. Now, only his trousers and undergarments separate him from total
nakedness.

However, Luke has hesitated too long. He cries out as Sir Yancy's cane lays
an angry red stripe across his exposed shoulders with the order to.

"Hurry up boy! Shuck off those trousers. And be quick about it."

As he watches, Massa Charles nods in approval at Sir Yancy's handling of
Luke.

Luke scrambles to comply with Sir Yancy's order and he quickly unbuttons
his trousers and undergarment allowing them to slide down his legs into a
crumpled heap around his ankles.  Stripped of all dignity, Luke steps out
of the trousers and bends to retrieve them.  Humiliatingly, he's aware that
his bare ass is now displayed for everyone in the room - both masters and
slaves - to gaze upon. And as he bends, he's acutely aware that his balls
are hanging haphazardly between his splayed legs and that the most private
part of his body - his anus - is open to their scrutiny. Acting to avoid
the cane - and Luke is surprised at how quickly he's learning the lessons
of obedience - he retrieves the garments and folds them neatly before
placing them with his other discarded clothing. He feels the hot flush of
his shame wash over his now nude body as he hears Massa Charles's
instruction to.

"Face me boy! Put your hands on your head and spread your legs.

As Luke moves into position, Yancy kicks his ankles apart further exposing
his body to Massa Charles's visual inspection. Yancy is no stranger to this
position and he's lost count of the number of times he'd been ordered to
adopt the display position for his master's prurient inspection of his
body. Even though he'd been born a slave, he'd never become inured to the
indignity of standing at naked display with his father and brothers as
they'd been assessed by Massa Robert and Massa Luke. Today, it is his young
master who stands at naked display and he revels in this sudden, unexpected
change of fortune that sees him assume the role of the master while Luke
becomes the slave. Revenge is sweet and to be much savored!

For his part, Luke feels Massa Charles's gaze upon him and instinctively,
he lowers his eyes to the floor. He knows this is expected of a slave;
after all he'd watched as his father had, at times, chastised an "uppity"
slave for failing to avert his eyes.

Luke stands motionless as Massa Charles scrutinizes his naked body. As his
chest rises and falls and his breathing quickens, he feels his belly's
nervous fluttering. And for the first time he feels the degradation and
powerlessness of the slave but rather than being apprehensive he is filled
with a growing sense of euphoria.

As he looks upon the naked form of his newest acquisition, Massa Charles is
pleased. The boy, Luke - and he really ought to give him the proper slave
name he's already chosen - will be a welcome addition to his household.

In many ways he is a younger version of Ptolemy and looking at him Massa
Charles harkens back to those first halcyon days when he'd asserted his
dominance over his former master, Beauregard St John. Charles decides
working with Ptolemy's young cousin will present him with an interesting
and pleasurable challenge; one that he's looking forward to. Of course, the
boy is still very raw and it will take much training by Charles to whip him
into shape.  Obviously, Charles is thinking figuratively and not
literally. He'll use the cane and the paddle on his new slave but not the
whip - unless it becomes absolutely necessary. The boy has already tasted
the cane enthusiastically applied to him by Yancy and he's responded to it
most positively. However, it will be interesting to test his responses to
the paddle?

Already, Charles has decided that Luke will be taken to the stables and
subjected to an ass- paddling similar to the one that Yancy had
suffered. Charles sees this as justifiable retribution; payback for the
pain inflicted on Yancy by Luke's father.

Charles has warmed to Yancy and sees great potential in him. He'd eagerly
looked forward to the two teenagers' visit and to date it is proving
providential. He hasn't only gained a new slave but also a possible soul
mate with whom he can interact on equal terms. Until now, his life has been
lonely with only his house-slaves as his constant, daily companions. And of
course, they can't be considered friends by any stretch of the
imagination. Therefore, it will be comforting to have Yancy's company of an
evening and to discuss with him the day to day running of the plantation
and the control and discipline of the slaves.

Already, Charles is considering his options. With the arrival of Yancy and
Luke, he is busily planning for the plantation's future. He has decided
that Yancy will become his prot‚g‚ and he'll be trained to eventually
take over the running of the plantation thus ensuring River's Bend remains
under Black Rule.

Of course for this to happen, Ptolemy has to adopt Luke as his heir and for
him to stay on permanently at the plantation. He knows Ptolemy has told
Luke he is free to return home to his family should he decide against
remaining at River's Bend. However, the question of whether or not Luke
chooses to stay permantly is a moot one. Charles has already made that
decision for him; he is remain at River's Bend as another of Charles's
lifelong slaves.

Three months from now, Charles will force Luke to writing a letter to his
father reassuring him all is well with him and saying he's decided to stay
on as Beauregard's heir. He will ask his father to transfer ownership of
Yancy/Nestor to him and as soon as this is done, Luke will give Yancy his
freedom. And on the day that Yancy is manumitted, Luke will be permanently
marked with the River's Bend brand.

Charles looks at the unsuspecting Luke and chuckles at his duplicity. He'd
deliberately deceived Ptolemy into believing that his young cousin is free
to leave at a time of his own choosing to allay Luke's
suspicions. Naturally, he feels neither guilt nor regret at his devious
plan; he doesn't have to justify his actions to his slaves. He owes neither
Ptolemy nor Luke any explanation.

After all, he is the Master of River's Bend and here his words are law and
his decisions are absolute and to be obeyed without question or hesitation.

As Charles visually assesses Luke's naked form, he sees that the new
slave's body has much potential even though it currently reflects his
free-man's pampered lifestyle. It lacks muscle tone but the foundations are
there and the burgeoning muscles can be further developed by hard
work. Charles considers working Luke with the twin brothers in the garden
initially to toughen him up. And perhaps, later, he'll send him into the
fields to toil in a work-gang.

However, he'll have a better idea of Luke's fitness after he and Immutef,
the slave vet - who he suddenly remembers is waiting at the foot of the
front steps - have physically examine the young slave to determine how best
to use him. Charles tries to put a monetary value on his newest
acquisition; after all he is his property and Charles - a stickler for
accurate bookkeeping - keeps a faithful record of all his assets and their
value. But, at this stage, he can only speculate about Luke's value. For
obvious reasons Charles can never attend a slave auction - not even the
local one - to keep abreast of the latest market trends.

As a free, black man he wouldn't be welcome at a slave auction. He would
necessarily have to pretend to be Ptolemy's slave - such a situation is
anathema to him - and therefore he never attends any auctions. And of
course, he'd find it distressing to see the black slaves paraded like farm
livestock and knocked down to the highest bidder. The mere thought of this
galls him and fuels his contempt and disdain of the white race.

Then he remembers that the white slaver, Saggory Clutterbuck will be
visiting River's Bend shortly. He'll have "Unsavory" run his hands over
Luke and give him a no obligation valuation.  But why stop with Luke; at
the same time he'll have Ptolemy appraised and valued. It has been some
time since Ptolemy was last assessed and it will be interesting to see the
two cousins standing side by side and comparing them in value.

But for now, Charles is anxious to move to the next part of Luke's
induction; the hands-on, physical inspection of his body. He is looking
forward to fingering his latest slave. But before he does so, he orders the
slave to.

"Turn around with your back to me!"

Slowly, Charles's eyes travel slowly down Luke's back before finally coming
to rest on the full, rounded curves of his ass. Luke is trembling like a
nervous colt and Charles notices the involuntary quivering of his flanks.

Then Charles orders him to.

"Bend and spread them, boy!"

Crimson-faced, Luke hastens to obey.

After he bends at the waist, Luke reaches back behind his body and taking a
firm buttock in each hand, he pulls them apart. As the cleft between his
buttocks widens, he feels the sudden tension on his ass-hole and he's aware
that the bright pink rosebud of his sphincter is opening and closing in
time with his rapid heartbeats.

How long does Luke remain in this most degrading of positions? He has no
way of telling.  Perhaps it's merely seconds or possibly minutes - he
doesn't know. Luke is learning that time isn't something a slave needs to
be concerned with. His time now belongs to Massa Charles and from now on,
everything he does is at the whim of his new master.

To his surprise, Luke finds as he remains doubled over that his sense of
shame lessens and the experience becomes erotically charged and most
pleasurable.

With Luke's inviting ass on show, Charles salivates at the thought of his
new slave's naivety and vulnerability. Of course, as the new slave's owner,
he will exercise his "droit de seigneur" rights over Luke and he eagerly
looks forward to fucking him. But that will have to wait until tonight
after his ass paddling. Over the years, Massa Charles has come to
appreciate a tenderized ass. From his long experience, Ptolemy is always a
better fuck after his ass has been beaten.

And after that, Luke will be allocated to Yancy for his use. However
tonight, as Yancy's host, Charles will make one or both of the twin
brothers available to him. The laws of hospitality dictate that he does so.

But first things first!

For now he has the most pleasurable duty of physically examining Luke from
head to toe.  Charles always considers the first laying on of a Master's
hands on a new slave's body to be of great significance for the slave. It
signals to the slave that his new master is laying claim to him - body and
soul - and it tells the slave that he is now an owned property. For Charles
there is an almost quasi-ceremonial element to this and he fondly remembers
the day twenty- two years ago when he'd similarly laid claim to Ptolemy.
Now history is repeating itself and another member of the hated St Jean
family is becoming his slave.
