chapter fourteen

After pouring the water in the glass, the boy handed it
to Damien. Then he left the room closing the door behind him.

"We looked for you for months, but we couldn't find
you. We really tried but we just couldn't find you." Father
Patricio began. "I'm really sorry that you saw us that night.
I didn't mean to..."

"Oh, shut up!" Damien screamed. "I don't want to hear
what you have to say. Leave me alone!"

Father Patricio was aghast by his nephew's reaction.
Tears were starting to form in his eyes as he compiled to his
nephew's wishes.

Several minutes had passed when someone knocked at the
door.

      "Leave me alone!" Damien shouted.

The person behind the door ignored his command and
entered the bedroom.

"I said to leave me..." Damien paused when saw the
person. "Jose?"

"It is I." Jose said meekly. He then approached
Damien's bed carry a tray filled with food.

"Just put them over the table." Damien said.

      Jose followed Damien's instruction.

"I'm so gladly that you're finally here. We all are."
He began saying with his back facing Damien. "It's just a
matter of time before your strength comes back and Pedro will
turn over Hacienda Montevero in your care."

      "Pedro?"

"Pedro Domingo, the guy whom you had a bit of incident
earlier."

"Isn't he the son of Don..." His voice trailed off.

      "Don Alfredo Domingo."

"I don't want to hear you or anybody mentioning his
name or my uncle's name in this house ever again! Do you
understand?" Damien replied.

      "I'm sorry."

      "Bring Pedro to me now!"

"Don't bother Jose, I'm here." Pedro said. "Please,
Jose leave us now."

"Yes, master." Jose said and left the room.

"I want you to leave the hacienda before the day ends,
do I make myself clear!" Damien said as he approached Pedro.

"And if I don't?" Pedro challenged Damien.

"I'll kick your ass out this land if I have to!" Damien
replied.

Pedro laughed which only ignited Damien's fury.

"Come on, let's eat and calmly discuss the matters
regarding the estate."

After saying that Pedro entered Damien's room without
being invited. He walked passed the furious lad and proceeded
to the table.

"Aren't you going to join me?" Pedro said as he seated.
He looked at Damien but his companion remained unmoved from
where he was standing. "Suit yourself." Pedro then began
pouring hot cocoa in his cup.

"Quit playing games with me, I want you out of here
now!" Damien said as he neared the table.

"Not until you calm down and dine with me." Pedro
answered.

Damien resigned and settled down on the chair opposite
to Pedro.

      "Cocoa?" Pedro offered.

"No. What I want is for you to leave the hacienda this
instant!"

      "I can but I won't." Pedro teased.

"You got some nerve! This is not Villa Domingo, this is
Hacienda Montevero, in case you've forgotten!"

"I know this Hacienda Montevero and that it belongs to
the Monteveros. Well, half of it that is."

"What do you mean half of it?"

"I guess, your uncle had told about your father's
condition."

      "He did."

"Well, after your father got sick. You uncle ran the
hacienda for awhile but things didn't went well as he had
hoped for. And after a year in his care the hacienda's loses
escalated. He went to my father and asked for financial aid.
My father bought half of the hacienda, your uncle's share."

"That's just great, your family con your way to our
hacienda!"

"Look! I don't know why you runaway two years ago,
where you've been or what the hell happened to you that
turned you into this angry person that you are now and I
don't care! But let me get one thing straight here, my family
is not the enemy here. We didn't prayed for all of these to
happen it just did. We are your allies. I'm here to help your
family and the hacienda not take it away!"

      "So, you said!"

"Well, if that's what you feel, tough then!" Pedro
stood up and walked towards the door. "You know what, I feel
sorry for you. You are being blinded by your own hatred that
you don't see who your true enemy is."

      "You're the enemy!"

"No, Damien, the enemy is yourself! Grow up man!" Pedro
said and left the room.

Almost four weeks had passed since Damien returned to
the hacienda. Though, there were no more traces that a storm
had ravaged the hacienda, still a wicked aura overshadows the
mansion.

Damien quickly recuperated from his famish state and
regained so much more than his youthful beauty. The once
splendid cherub has metamorphosed into an Adonis. Yet behind
his godly looks, Hades is slowly consuming his soul.

Father Patricio returned to St. Francis that same day
his nephew proscribed him from the hacienda. With a heavy
heart, he resumed his role as rector of the seminary. While
Pedro continued his role as the overseer of the hacienda, he
and Damien hadn't spoken to each since then.
