Epilogue

The remainder of the winter passed without further incident. Golden Angel
was successfully impregnated and was separated from the other mares waiting
for her time. Josh moved into my room after we convinced there was no need
for cleaning up the spare room when Matt's bed was available.

Matt's horse Runner was brought back when I told Gramps it was a shame not
having him on the farm. We put him up for stud rather then breeding him
with our own mares.

Gramps age was becoming a factor and Josh and I were taking over more of
the responsibilities of running the farm. I set up the files on each
breeding mare with her complete pedigree and the foals she had dropped with
the history of their sires. The website alone kept me pretty busy answering
the inquiries for breeding with other stallions, auctions, stud fees, etc.

When Josh had been with us for almost a year, one evening at dinner Gramps
was unusually quiet as we ate. I could tell he was mulling something over
in his mind and I glanced at Josh, he just shrugged his shoulders. When I
poured his second cup of coffee he looked up at me and then at Josh.

"How long you been with us now Josh, almost a year isn't it?"

"Yes sir, next month it will be a full year."

"Like working on a quarter horse farm do you?"

"Yes sir, I do."

"Luke's going to need help pretty soon, Lester and I aren't getting any
younger. He and I have been together a long lot of years, bred many a fine
horse. Couldn't ask for a better friend."

"Gramps, why are you talking this way? You're gonna be with us a long time
yet."

"I was just wondering if Josh was going to stick with horse breeding or got
other ideas."

"I'll be here as long as you and Luke want me Mr. Lawrence. I don't have
any reason for leaving. I told Uncle Lester I didn't want to leave." "Good
hearing that boy. I always wanted Matt and Luke to take over after me but
guess it'll be you and Luke now. Matt would have approved. I'm kind of
tired right now. Luke will you help me to my bed, don't feel well."

"You want me to call Dr. Mohr Gramps?"

"No need Luke, I just need some rest. He would just give me some pills and
fuss about taking it easy."

I helped Gramps and after getting him settled for the night went back in
the kitchen where Josh was waiting.

"You think he will be all right Luke? I've never heard him mention he was
that tired before or needed help."

"We will take him in for a checkup tomorrow Josh. I don't like the way he
was talking either."

Gramps died in his sleep that night and I was glad Josh was with me. In a
space of less then 5 years I had lost the four most precious people in the
world. We buried Gramps alongside of his wife on another cold day but at
least it was not raining. Services had been held in Gramps church and it
overflowed with people that knew him and of him. Services at the cemetery
were family and invited guests since it was so far back in the hills.

Lester stood much like I had when Matt was buried and Josh had his arm
around his shoulders hugging him as Gramps had hugged me. Josh and I didn't
know it but Lester would follow Gramps in less then 6 months and he was
buried in the Lawrence Cemetery close to his friend.

Josh and I took Lester to his cottage, making sure he was comfortable
before we left for the main house. I put on a pot of coffee while Josh hung
our coats up. In the year he had been with us he had really matured into a
strong masculine young man. His body had thickened and his muscles were
more cut from hard work and working out with the Bowflex exercising machine
we had installed. His sandy blond hair had become even more unruly then it
had been but his eyes were like dark cobalt blue pools that flashed when he
was angry or excited. When you looked into them it was like looking into
the depths of his soul. There was compassion, love and feelings he showed
but found little need to voice since he expressed them by his manner and
caring for others. Every time he looked at me his eyes would say "I love
you" and that was as good as what he would have said.

He and I talked about Matt a lot when we were in bed. Maybe I should say I
talked about Matt and Josh listened. I think he understood that he could
never replace Matt in my heart and he didn't try, he carved his own niche
right beside him and I loved him almost as much.

I was standing in the door looking out at the gray clouds scudding across
the sky; there was a hint of snow in the air. A bird or two flew by on the
way to where they had built a nest or maybe looking for some berries or
seeds. A brisk wind blew out of the Northeast and that usually indicated a
chance of snow if a moisture laden low-pressure system came up from the
south.

I wasn't really thinking of anything, my mind was almost blank as I stood
there. Josh came up behind me and put his arms around my waist pulling me
to him. My body molded with his and his lips caressed the nape of my
neck. Josh's body had improved and he had grown a little taller to where we
could kiss without one or the other of us needing to stretch or bend. I
reached down and pulled his arms up around my chest and turned my head, our
lips met briefly in a brushing kiss. Just a little taste and he pressed his
body closer to mine as he spoke very quietly.

"You okay Luke?"

"As long as I have you with me Josh, everything is okay. It's just the two
of us with Lester now."

Nuzzling my hair with his nose he whispered, "still want coffee or would
you rather lay down for awhile?"

I turned in his arms kissing him softly our bodies glued together. His
hardness matched my own and the feeling of needing him flowed through
me. Looking into his eyes I could see the love he felt and the desire. No
lust, just and intense compassionate need that I needed as well as he did.

"Take me Josh. I need to feel you taking me, loving me."

We walked up the stairs to our bedroom and stood in the center of the room
removing each other's clothing piece by piece. Our fingers running over
hard muscled flesh feeling the tingling excitement, nervous as if we were
seeing and feeling each other for the first time. I drank in the beauty of
his magnificently muscled frame, his chest rising and falling, his eyes
gleaming as he looked at me. He pulled me to him and his flesh was warm and
velvety. Our lips and cocks met in a mutually passionate embrace tongues
twisting and tasting as our hips ground together rolling our hot slick
members in beds of soft silky hair.

"Mmmmmmm." I moaned. "Josh I love you, that's all I could think about today
at the cemetery, how much I love and need you."

"I was thinking about the first time I saw you and how much I wanted you."

We kissed again and lay on the bed embracing each other. My heart was
racing and I could feel the beat of Josh's heart and the throbbing of his
cock against mine.

"Take me Josh, please. I need you."

"I need you as much Luke, tonight we take each other. Tonight I want your
life in me as you take mine. Tonight it is just you and me Luke and I want
all of you. You are mine and I am yours, we are one within each other."

Josh twisted around and we took each other gently, slowly. It was a
passionate consuming of the life we gave each other nursing at the fount of
mans love for man. We filled each other with the hot molten seed that
sealed the bond between us.

My mind floated as I drank from the vessel that was Josh, my love and I
heard "do you still love me Luke?"

"As long as I can breath Josh."

There seemed to be a faint odor of sandalwood & musk in the air as Josh
took me in his arms our lips meeting in a soft passionate kiss.

From deep in the recesses of my mind I heard a faint, "I love you Lukie,
always."

The farm profited and our love grew stronger over the years. Black Angus
cattle were brought on the farm and prospered. Josh oversaw the day-to-day
operation of the farm and we acquired a few surrounding farms increasing
our overall acreage by 3 times. After Lester passed, we took in a
sharecropper family with two lusty teenage boys and they assisted with
other migrant workers that passed through. The farm grew until we needed a
manager with a permanent crew. The quarter horse breeding became a separate
part of the farm and the cattle breeding another. With little exception
most of what we needed was grown or bred on the farm. Josh studied until he
was a recognized expert in quarter horse breeding and bloodlines.

Josh and I would visit the Lawrence Cemetery on the anniversary of Matt's
passing and we established a trust fund that would insure the care of the
cemetery in future years. In the late fall we visited the Bahamas and
eventually bought a small cottage overlooking the ocean. Watching the
sharecropper kids grow reminded me of Matt and I at that age, life goes on,
thank goodness.
