I missed Wyatt more than I ever had in my life. As the next couple of
month's drug by, I began to feel like I would never see him again. My mind
played tricks on me and I found every reason in the world to accuse him of
cheating on me and anything else. I think the whole point was to make
myself angry enough to go to sleep. I'd work myself until I was miserable
and mentally exhausted then I'd lie down on my rack waking late in the
evening. I'd even begun to picture getting killed over here and never
seeing Wyatt again, it made me crazy and sad because I loved him so much.
I didn't think I could take much more and then a ray of hope came my way.
I was given two weeks of leave. I had a seat on the next flight out, the
only thing is I had to wear my cammies on the flight, I could have cared
less. I purposely didn't tell Wyatt I was coming home, I wanted it to be a
surprise but I also needed to know that he was faithful.

I was on the transport at 5am, the flight would take just over 16 hours, I
was never more excited then I was on this flight. Sitting next to me was a
young Navy Pilot named Sean, he was talkative and managed to keep me
occupied the entire flight. We took each others name and numbers saying
we'd look each other up after our leave was over. I hurried off the plane,
grabbing my bags and getting a taxi. I told the driver the address, he
smiled and told me how proud he was of what I was doing overseas, I thanked
him. He pulled up in front of the house, I had to catch my breath the
place was beautiful, parked in the driveway was a Volvo station wagon, on
the back window was a Semper Fi sticker. I shook the drivers hand giving
him a good tip. I grabbed my bags and walked up to the door. The doorbell
rang three times. I heard someone inside. Almost two minutes had passed
and I was almost to the point of ringing it again when the door opened.
Wyatt looked out and fell backwards landing on his butt. I opened the door
quickly, it was then I noticed he had lost his leg. I crumbled to the floor
pulling Wyatt in my arms and crying like a baby. Wyatt kissed me several
times, I couldn't let him go I repeated over and over how sorry I was for
not being here for him. Wyatt held my head against his shoulder, his
fingers warm against my neck. He whispered to me that everything was all
right. When my tears subsided, I sat back and looked at him.

"I love you so much, you know that don't you?"

He smiled, "definitely, I always have."

I ran my fingers through his hair and shuddered, he smiled at me, "I'm glad
you're home."

I explained I was only home for two weeks, he kissed me, "it doesn't
matter, you're home."

I helped him stand and together we toured the house, Wyatt was proud of
everything he'd done.

I looked at him, he seemed so young, I hated that he had to do this all
alone.

Wyatt took my hand and led me back to the bedroom, on the dresser were
several pictures of the two of us together.

"Ryan do you still love me?"

Without a second thought I bent down and kissed him pushing him back on the
bed, I gently undressed him, my fingers moved over his leg until I had
touched every part of his body and then my fingers continued to move until
he began to cry out. As I stood to remove my pants Wyatt sat on the edge
of the bed and looked up at me. He laid his head against my stomach, my
fingers moved through his silky hair. I felt electric. Slowly I dropped
down on my knees in front of him looking into his eyes, "I love you so
much, you really cannot imagine what being with you makes me feel." Gently
I lowered my head taking him deep in my mouth, he gasped his fingers
feverishly moving in my hair.

He pulled me off his erection. "I want you."

When we were joined as one I looked at him, I knew I could never love
anyone the way I loved Wyatt. My hands ran over his hard stomach and chest
as I buried every inch inside of him. I bent forward and pulled his nipple
in my mouth, I could feel his lips kissing the top of my head as he
whispered words of love. I moved deeper, he screamed out and I filled him
with hot seed, his erection spewed between our bodies, I never wanted to
let him go, ever.

We lay beside each other talking for hours, drifting off to sleep then
waking and holding one another. It was dark when Wyatt and me showered. I
had him throw on a pair of shorts and soon we were on our way to eat. He
looked at me when I pulled into a restaurant. "Ryan I can't go in there
with my leg."

I held his hand, "Wyatt, you are as beautiful now as you were when I fell
in love with you."

He smiled at me. There were a few stares that ended when we sat down,
neither of us sure if it was his leg or because we were twins. As we ate
my eyes never left Wyatt's face. He looked at me and smiled before asking
what I was thinking. "How lucky I am to have you in my life."

Wyatt's eyes watered, I reached over the table and covered his hand with
mine. After dinner we returned home. Wyatt had some work to do and I
wanted to run an errand. It was late when I returned, Wyatt's eyes were
red and I asked him what was wrong.

"Ryan I missed you so much I need you next to me every second of the day."

The look on his face said everything to me. I dropped down on my knees in
front of him and pulled out my Marine Corps ring. "Wyatt, I love you, I
always will, you are and always have been my life. I swear to you my
undying love and my eternal need for you, I love you more than life
itself."

Wyatt sat beside me, his arms around me and he cried. I could tell his
heart was breaking. We talked about being apart for the next several
months. I held Wyatt until he fell asleep in my arms. Each time I woke I
ran my fingers through his hair to make sure he was real. After 1am we
walked to the bedroom, undressed I lay under the sheets, Wyatt crawled
under lying on his side. I turned on my side and kissed the top of his
head as my fingers moved up the back of his neck. I could hear him sobbing
once again and I pulled him closer to me. I whispered my love for him
until he slept, my arms tight around him, his head against my chest, this
was heaven.

Wyatt was off work for my entire visit. We went to the beach, out to eat
and spent a lot of time together at the Jetty sitting together talking and
laughing. Every night we held each other for dear life giving and taking
of each other until exhausted we slept only to wake up in the other's arms.
As the final two days arrived, we stayed home. Wyatt fixed lunch then we
sat down and watched a movie after the movie Wyatt turned the television
off and looked at me.

"Letting you go back overseas is the hardest thing I've ever had to do, I
feel like something bad is going to happen, I'm not sure what but I can
feel it and I'm scared."

I rested my hand on the back of his neck. "Wyatt, we've been in love since
the day we were born, and no matter how far away I am from you I feel your
love for me and I know you can feel my love for you. Whatever happens is
meant to happen, it wouldn't matter whether I was in Iraq or here next to
you. All I ask is that you swear to me never to hurt yourself should
something happen and to find happiness."

Wyatt pushed my hand from his neck and stood up unsteadily. "Ryan, there
is nothing without you, nothing at all. I could never touch another
person. The thought of being with anyone but you makes me sick. You're
all I've ever wanted in life and I will not let anything or anyone take you
away from me, swear to me you'll come home, swear it!"

Standing up I pulled him in my arms, "I swear."

I led Wyatt back to the bedroom, I made Wyatt make love to me in a special
way, I knew he didn't like it but I needed to have him inside me once
again. Wyatt's body shook and he collapsed on top of me, his body
shaking. "Please come home."

Gently, I kissed him holding him close against my body, the warmth of his
breath against my chest making me yearn for him. My fingers moved up his
neck the minute my fingers moved in his silky hair my erection hardened. I
felt his fingers move over the front of my pants, he quickly released me
and soon his breath was warm against my skin as he moved his head slowly up
and down until he had all of me inside. I lay back my fingers refusing to
move from the erotic feeling his hair provided, my hands moved up each side
of his facing touching his skin, wanting him to always want me as he did
now. I gently grabbed a handful of his hair gently urging his head
downward. He began to moan, I begged him not to stop, my back arched
filling him with more of me, I could feel his hands under my butt forcing
me deeper in his mouth, his movements steady and strong until at last he
moaned several times and forcing me over the edge, he looked up at me as
his mouth still held my erection in his mouth, the love I saw in his eyes
was unbelievable. We showered then returned to bed and slept.

Near 2am, we dressed and drove down to an all night diner, we had something
to eat then went down to the beach. Wyatt sat in front of me, his head
leaning against my chest, my lips kissed the top of his head over and over
as we watched the tide recede. By morning we had returned home, made love
a few times before showering. As I pulled on my uniform Wyatt broke down
crying. I pulled him in my arms and reminded him of the bond we would
always share. He looked in my eyes and kissed me all over my face
whispering his love. I refused to allow him to wait for me at the terminal
on base, as I got out of the car I put my head in the window, "Wyatt,
remember what we talked about, remember I love you eternally and once I
return home I will never leave you again, you have my word."

Wyatt tried to smile, "I need you so much, I'm lost without you. You are my
life."

I touched his hand gently, "I love you baby."

I told him to go home and rest up for work tomorrow, I'd call him once I
was back in country. He nodded his head, I could see the tears glistening
in his eyes, I wanted to hold him so badly instead I turned picking up my
bags and headed for the terminal.

It took two days before I arrived back in Iraq. I called Wyatt, we talked
for a while before he got upset. I told him he was loved before hanging
up. Within the hour I returned to the pumping station. It was late in the
day, I sat down in my quarters and wrote Wyatt a long note.

Wyatt,

You know you are my entire life, everything begins and ends with you.
Being with you the last two weeks has given me the strength I need to move
through the next several months until we are together once again. I hate
seeing you upset it rips my heart apart, all I ever wanted was to make you
happy and proud. I know you're proud of me and I also know how sad you are
that we are apart during this time. The worst thing in the world for me
would have been not to have come over here and then to have had to fight
them on our shores, protecting you is my life and I would gladly give it up
to know that you are safe and happy. When I return home I'd like to take
you on a camping trip the way we camped when we were kids. Holding you in
my arms makes me feel like the luckiest person in the world, you're that
important to me.

If I die over here, my expectation is that you will go on living and one
day you will meet someone to make you happy and keep you safe. I don't
want anything to happen to me, I want to come home to you but incase it
doesn't work out that way I need to know you'll be all right, it scares me
worrying about you. I know that I am the only man in the world that can
honestly say I've been happy every second of every day since we've been
together, you represent everything I want and need from life.

In the guest room under the pillow, I left you a gift and a card, I need
you to know how much you mean to me and how much you are loved.

I love you always,

Ryan.

The card took almost 10 days to arrive. Wyatt smiled as he pulled the card
from the mailbox carrying it up to the house. Before removing his Jacket
and Tie he sat down at the kitchen table and read the letter. As he
finished tears fell from his eyes. He wiped his eyes and walked into the
guest room, he pulled the card and package from underneath the pillows
carrying them back to the kitchen. He sat down once again and gently
opened the card. He read the card then hung his head and cried like a
baby, it was some time before he could bring himself to open the box. As
he lifted the lid on the box his eyes were riveted on Ryan's Marine Corp
Ring he wore on his finger, for a moment he smiled knowing that Ryan wore
his Corps ring too. Inside the box was an expensive Rolex Sub Mariner
watch that he had been wanting, he removed the watch he was wearing then
put the new watch on his wrist. He smiled for a moment before falling to
his knees and begging God to allow Ryan to come back home safely.

Ryan's work in Iraq wasn't any easier as the months passed. The attacks on
the station had died down significantly, giving him some relief from the
constant vigilance of having to be on your toes 24/7. It wasn't until the
final month of his tour that he began to feel like something was going to
happen. Ryan began carrying his weapon with him around the clock, he
couldn't pinpoint what he felt. With two weeks left in country on Friday
evening during chow all hell broke loose. Insurgents attacked the pumping
station from two sides within minutes tracers laced the night sky. There
were sufficient soldiers to hold the attackers off, regardless everyone
worried about the site going up in a fireball should the pipelines be
damaged. Wyatt positioned himself under a large pipeline, it gave him a
clear view of both areas. Slowly, almost methodically he fired at the
enemy reserving his ammo for a sure target each time. As the night wore on
the battle became intermittent and finally it seemed like it was over.
Ryan's eyes kept watch. He never saw the bullet with his name on it. The
bullet came in through his right cheek breaking his jaw and cheek bone
before deflecting, passing through his nasal passage and coming to rest in
his left occipital region. He coughed as he tried to breath, blood gushed
into his mouth, he turned over on his stomach and let the blood flow onto
the ground. He was in such pain that he could barely get to his feet. He
managed to stumble almost 30 yards before a Marine saw him and yelled for
the corpsman. The minute the corpsman saw him he thought the bullet had
gone into Ryan's brain. He had Ryan lay down while soldiers ran to get a
cot. The Corpsman went to clean off the right side of his face and that's
when he saw the jagged bullet entry, the jaw bone protruded through the
skin right below his right ear. Having started an IV, he flashed his light
into Ryan's eyes, the right eye was responsive, while areas of the left eye
were covered in dark blood. The corpsman began asking Ryan questions, Ryan
at first shook his head but then his body went into shock. The Corpsman
was quick to call for an ambulance.

At the field hospital the doctor's were unable to wake Ryan. A Marine
General serving in Iraq (I left his name out since he is still there) made
a phone call to Ryan's mother at Headquarters in Washington, all he could
tell her was that it didn't look good. She in turn called Wyatt and asked
him to fly up to Washington, Ryan was coming home. She knew better than to
tell him that Ryan may be critically injured. Ryan arrived three days
later via Germany. He was immediately transported to Walter Reed where he
was assessed and sent for immediate surgery. The surgeon that operated on
his expertly set the jaw back into place using a metal plate and several
screws. Restructuring the right eye socket took longer than expected and
once completed they team decided to wait for another two days before
attacking the bullet lodged in the left occipital region.

At the hospital entrance Wyatt looked at his mother but said nothing, he
was unsure why they were here unless Ryan was having a routine physical.
At the information desk with Wyatt out of earshot she asked where Ryan's
room was. The nurse gave her directions to the third floor intensive care
unit. As they walked out on the floor Wyatt was apprehensive but said
nothing. As they neared the room and Wyatt saw Ryan bandaged with a
breathing tube in his throat he collapsed. Three nurses and a doctor got
him into a empty bed. He was made to lie there for an hour, while his
mother went to Ryan's room and held his hand tears gently falling down her
cheeks. The doctor came in and began to explain that Ryan would be
operated on again in the morning, the prognosis was guarded. It had been
almost 15 days and Ryan had not woken up yet. The concern was that the
bullet had caused damage to the brain as it moved into the occipital region
lodging halfway into his brain.

Wyatt steadied himself as he walked into the room. He immediately began to
cry, his mother steadied him as he moved over to Ryan's bed. He called out
"Ryan wake up, please Ryan it's me Wyatt."

Wyatt thought he felt Ryan's hand tighten in his but he couldn't be sure.
Late at night Wyatt's mother left, Wyatt refusing to go anywhere until Ryan
could walk out with him. He held Ryan's hand talking to him. In the early
morning hours, he got close to Ryan and kissed the exposed side of his face
reminding him he was loved more than anyone ever. Again Wyatt felt that
Ryan had moved just a bit at those words. The following morning at 8:30am
Ryan was wheeled down to the surgical theater to fix his nasal cavity, the
left occipital region and to remove the bullet that had been imbedded half
way in his brain. At his mother's bidding, a Priest offered the last
rights to Ryan as Wyatt looked on with tears in his eyes.

Nine hours passed before the surgeon stepped from the operating room to
explain Ryan's prognosis. He sat with them and explained what they had
done and what their hopes where. The surgeon was quick to point out that
everything that could be done had been done only time would tell now.
After three weeks Wyatt had to return home he refused to leave Ryan in
Washington and arrangements were made to transport him to a hospital near
the house so Wyatt could be with him all the time.

Near the fourth month of Ryan's coma he began to wake up. At first he
could barely talk but over a period of days his language and memory
returned. Another week passed before Ryan sat up in bed and looked over at
Wyatt. "I love you." Wyatt smiled, "I missed you too." As Wyatt looked
at Ryan he noticed that Ryan's left eye moved around independently of his
right eye. It didn't matter he loved Ryan and they were on the road to
becoming a family once again.

It has been seventeen months since Ryan returned home. Today you couldn't
tell that he'd ever been shot. For his troubles he was retired with
disability pay and a purple heart. Ryan has returned to working, now it is
for the same Engineering Firm as Wyatt. He also spends every minute he has
holding Wyatt tight in his arms. The thought of losing each other made him
realize how blessed he truly was, they love each other and always will.
