The Doctor Gets a Visitor
Chapter 14 -- Dinner Conversation

"Doctor W., there is a Red Lobster right near Oak View. Will that be
okay?" Kenny asked.

"That sounds good." Jeff answered. "Let's roll Dad."

I drove directly to the Oak View area and pulled into the parking lot at
the Red Lobster restaurant. We were shown to a booth as soon as we walked
in. Our waiter, Kyle, brought our menus, "I will be right back to take
your orders."

Drew was overwhelmed, "I've never eaten in a restaurant like this. The
only places I have been to are fast food places. I have no idea what to
order. What are you having Kenny?"

"I am going to have the Captain's Platter if it okay with Doctor W." he
answered.

"Of course it's okay. I think that is what I am going to have too." I
answered.

Kyle returned and asked, "What can I get you to drink you gentlemen to
drink?"

We gave our drink orders and Jeff said, "We are also ready to order our
meals. I think we are all going to have the Captain's Platter."

Everyone nodded and Kyle asked, "What kind of salad would you like? We
have a garden salad with house dressing, Caesar salad or coleslaw."

The two young guys chose the house salad, I ordered a Caesar salad and Jeff
selected coleslaw.

"Now what kind of potatoes would you like? We have French fries, garlic
mashed potatoes, baked potato or sauteed new potatoes with parsley."

Drew and Kenny selected French fries; I ordered a baked potato with sour
cream and Jeff chose the new potatoes. Jeff added, "We each would like a
bowl of clam chowder and the steamed vegetables, please."

Kyle smiled, "You got it, sir."

Kyle came back with our drinks and quickly brought the soup, crackers and
rolls. Everyone enjoyed the chowder and Kenny and Drew started on the
rolls.

As soon as we all had finished with the chowder, Kyle cleared the bowls and
set our salads in front of us which we quickly consumed them. Kyle
immediately cleared the plates and announced, "I'll be back shortly with
your dinners. He was back almost before he left and served our platters,
"Is there anything else you need?" He set the catsup and sour cream on the
table.

We all shook our heads no and started to eat and Jeff said, "Drew, tell us
about your parents."

Drew was completely unprepared for that request, but said, "I don't
remember much about my father. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad
and I remember we lived in a nice house. I think I was four when he was
killed in a train accident."

"My mother was devastated, but she got everything pulled together. She
sold the house and went to school to be a registered LPN. We had a nice
apartment and she arranged her work schedule so she could be with me when I
got home from school. We were as happy as could be expected. I really
liked school and was always on the honor roll. As I grew older, she still
tried to be home as quickly as she could and she tried to attend any
activity or sports event I participated in."

"It was the last day of school. I got home a little earlier than usual.
There was a message on the machine saying that she was going to be working
late, so she could have enough money to take me to see a baseball game in
Kansas City for my 16th birthday present."

"She had just left her patient's house when she was shot by someone driving
by. She was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. The person who
shot her was picked up by the police and when he was asked why he had done
it, he shrugged his shoulders and simply said, `I don't know. It was
something to do.' The police arrested him and he was sentenced to life in
prison."

By now Drew had tears streaming down his face. Everyone had been sitting
there not even looking at their food. Kyle came over and asked, "Is
something wrong gentlemen?"

Jeff looked at Kyle and asked, "Could you please warm our dinners in a
microwave or something?"

"Yes sir, I'll take care of it." Kyle answered as he took our plates away.

While Kyle was gone, Drew continued. "We had a nice funeral for my mother
which I suspect Aunt Cora had paid for. Aunt Cora wanted to take me home
but my mother's brother said he was the closest of kin and should be my
guardian. I don't think he or his wife really wanted me. They wanted the
money they thought my mother had. When they found out that she didn't have
any money and they couldn't get any child support, they treated me like
dirt and made my life hell. They were only interested in drugs and
alcohol."

Kenny put his arm around Drew and said, "That chapter of your life is
closed. You have people in Fremont who will take care of you." I thought
Drew was really going to start crying hard.

Fortunately Kyle arrived with four platters only they looked like they were
new meals. "I brought fresh meals gentlemen. Now could you talk about
something fun while you eat?"

"Yes sir!" Jeff laughed and turned to Drew. I am sorry if I made you
uncomfortable. Now let's eat and enjoy this food."

Everyone cleared their platters and Kyle came back and said, "Now that's
better gentlemen. Can I get you any dessert?" Everyone shook their heads
no and Kyle said, "I'll be right back with your check.

He came back and handed the check to Jeff and said, "I'll take care of this
when you are ready, sir?" Before Kyle could leave, Jeff asked, "Dad, may I
have your bankcard so that I can pay this gentleman? I don't think we
should leave him a tip, since he thinks I am the oldest person here."

Kyle looked a little bewildered but recovered nicely, "I assumed that he
was your brother: since you seemed to be making all the decisions and being
asked your opinion. I assumed, incorrectly that you were in charge."

Drew and Kenny started to laugh. Jeff came right back and said, "Kyle, we
expect much better service the next time we come in." He handed Kyle the
folder with my bankcard, after I saw him slip $40.00 in for the tip.

Kyle looked at it and smiled and took the check and card to the cashier and
when he came back he said, "Thanks for coming in gentlemen and for being so
generous. Make sure you ask for my table the next time you come back."

"We will." Jeff answered as he got up and hugged Kyle.

We stopped in the bathroom to relieve ourselves before we went to the car.
When every one was settled, I asked, "Are we going to the mall?"

Jeff answered, "Little brother, we need to get Drew some casual slacks,
shoes and some more casual shirts."

"Okay old man. Kenny, where do you think we should go?" I asked.

"Let's go to Dilliards."

I pulled into a parking space right outside of the lower level entrance and
Kenny led us directly to the casual slacks, where we met up with Lynn
Weaver who would be helping us. We found Drew's size and Jeff handed him a
pair, "Go try these on."

Lynn took Drew to the dressing room area and when they came out, Lynn said,
"This is his size but he will need to wear a belt."

Jeff said, "We purchased two belts at the previous stop, so he should be
fine there. Now Drew, find six pair of slacks that you want." When Drew
had selected the slacks, Jeff asked, "Lynn can you help us in the shoe
department?"

"Those people have there own thing going. It's like they are a separate
company and only the salespeople on duty there can help you."

"Lynn, you keep these things here while we get shoes, because we are going
to need some other things. We'll take care of the shoes and come back."

We went to the shoe department and the people there were nice but not
overly friendly. They did get the shoes that Drew wanted to try on and did
make sure they fit. I paid for them with Mrs. Tillison's card. Jeff
reminded me that I need a new pair of deck shoes and loafers since he had
given mine to Drew. So I got them and paid for them with my bankcard. By
the time we left the sales people in the shoe department couldn't have been
more helpful.

We walked back to where Lynn was holding Drew's pants and Jeff said,
"Gentlemen, you have 20 minutes to find anything that you think you want.
They have some great sales going, but make sure you really like what you
get and make sure that they will be easy to maintain. Lynn, we will back
in twenty minutes so you can ring up our purchases. You might go with Drew
in case he has any questions."

Everyone scattered and I heard Lynn asked Drew, "What would you like to
look at, sir?"

We all went different directions but we all manage to arrive back at about
the same time. Drew came back with four shirts, a sweater and two more
team logo shirts. Jeff had two dress shirts and a winter jacket to replace
the one he had given Drew. I had only had a sweater and Kenny had a
sweater and a shirt.

"Okay Lynn." Jeff said, "This pile goes to Drew." I handed him
Mrs. Tillison's Dillard's card and he processed it. Next came Jeff's and
he used his bankcard. I paid for mine with my bankcard, and finally Lynn
rang up Kenny's items. They came to $2.73 more than he had left, but Jeff
handed him a $5.00 bill and said, "You owe me five more hours of slave
labor."

Lynn looked at Jeff funny but rang up the sale. When he had bagged all of
the purchases, he said, "I think this is one sale that won't soon forget.
I think you guys must have a very interesting story to tell."

"You better be prepared for the next time we come back." Jeff laughed.

We took the purchases and put them in their proper space in the trunk and I
asked, "Where to now?"

"I think we are ready to go home, Dad." Jeff answered.

I turned to the two guys in back and asked, "How about you two guys?"

They concurred that it was time to go home.

When we got out of town Jeff turned to Drew, "Drew, I think you were raped
and I assume it was by your uncle. Would you tell us about?"

Drew looked like he was going to cry again, but Jeff quickly reacted and
said, "Drew, whatever happened wasn't your fault. I think you need to get
it out of your system and be the person your mother would want you to be."

Drew started, "As I told you earlier, my uncle and aunt thought I was extra
baggage after they found out I was not going to enable them to get any
money. They moved me out of the extra bedroom and I had to sleep on the
old living room sofa. One night my uncle had been out drinking and when he
came in, he came to the sofa where I was sleeping and woke me and said, `I
am going to get what I want from you now.' With that he turned me over so
my face was in the sofa and my butt was in the air. He ripped my boxers
off and climbed on top of me and told me how smooth I was."

"The next thing I knew, the son of a bitch penetrated me and pushed his
penis the entire way in with out stopping. He started to go like a jack
hammer and it hurt so much that I wanted to scream, but he had my face
pushed into the sofa and I could hardly breathe."

"He finally released his semen and then just fell on back and there was no
way I could move because he was so much heavier than me. When he
recovered, he started hammering again and I think I passed out because it
hurt so badly. When I came to, I was by myself and there was blood all
over the sheet."

"I made up my mind that I would never allow that to happen to me again, so
I got a baseball bat and put on the sofa with me at night. The next time
he tried anything I grabbed the bat and said, "You touch me, and you are
going to regret it."

"Needless to say, he never did anything to me again, because I always took
the bat to bed with me."

Kenny looked at Drew with tears in his eyes and said, "You poor guy. Jeff
is right. It wasn't your fault. I guess I don't appreciate how
uncomplicated my life has been."

We pulled up in front of Mrs. Tillison's house. We exited the car and took
Drew things into the house. Aunt Cora and Mrs. Mrs. Tillison were having a
cup of tea. I handed Mrs. Tillison's cards to her with all the receipts
and said, "We did some major damage, but I think Jeff and Drew made some
wise decisions."

The guys went upstairs and I quickly told the two ladies what happened,
including an abbreviated description of the rape. As I finished, Jeff came
down the stairs followed by the other two guys and announced, "We really
need to get going."

Jeff turned to Drew, "I'll pick you at 6:00 in the morning. Good night
everyone." Jeff said as he went to the door.

Kenny and I said our farewells and followed Jeff to the door. When we got
the Hendrix house, we got Kenny's purchases put of the trunk and Jeff
helped him to the door. I heard him say, "I'll pick you at 6:05."

Jeff got into the car, "Poor Drew, I can't imagine what it would be like to
have the life that he has had. I guess I am really lucky even though I
didn't know my father. Dad, was I being cruel to ask him about what
happened?"

"No, I think Drew might feel relieved now that he has told someone what
happened. It will also make it a lot easier to explain why he is getting
such thorough physical tomorrow."

We pulled into the garage, got our thing out of the trunk and went directly
to the bedroom where we completed our nightly rituals, climbed into bed and
fell asleep.

I want to thank Darryl, AKA Radio Rancher, for taking the time to edit this
