Chapter 19 -- Church and More

When we got downstairs, everyone else was ready. Mickey asked, "Is it okay
if we ride with Beau?"

"Yes." answered Linda.

The five of us piled into the Camry. We were greeted by Barry and Mandy.
Barry said, "Mother is saving seats down front for you all." The ushers
showed us to our seats.

Jeff sat beside me and he was flanked by Beau, Mickey and Chris, followed
by the homework gang. We had just gotten seated when Chip came and crawled
on Jeff's lap. He tapped my leg and said, "Doctor Dad, Mommy and Daddy did
something last night they haven't done for a long time."

"What's that, Chip?" Beau asked.

"They laughed. They think that Uncle Jeff, you and Mr. Lincoln are
saints." Chip turned to look at Jeff and asked, "Are you a saint, Uncle
Jeff?"

"Some people don't think so." Jeff said.

"Chip, I think he is." said Beau.

A baby started to cry. Spencer looked around and saw the Ellisons and went
and got Jimmy and brought him back, and was talking to him. Jimmy didn't
make another sound during the service. The guys were all perfectly
behaved.

Father Gilbert announced, "Ladies and gentlemen, you are in for a real
treat this morning. The Lord's Prayer will be sung by Miss Dina Lincoln,
Mr. Drew Washington and Mr. Jeff Wilson."

The three surprised teens stood and went to the altar area. Jeff said
something to Dina and Drew and then nodded to Anne and she started to play
and just followed them as the three of them sang. It was like there were
invisible signals being passed.

When everyone was exiting, Chip rushed past me and jumped into Jeff's arms
and said "You people sing so pretty." He did the same to Drew and then he
went to Dina and said, "You sure are pretty and sing really nice."

"Let me guess. You're Commander Chip, right?" Dina asked.

"I am Chip, but how did you know?" Chip asked.

"I'm Bobby's sister." Dina said, as she leaned down and kissed Chip.

Spencer walked up to the three and said, "I have to tell you people that
even Jimmy thinks you are good. He woke up when you started to sing. Then
when you finished he smiled and clapped his hands."

Mickey interrupted and said, "He was applauding because they were finally
finished."

Everyone who was standing around started to clap at what Mickey had said.
Jeff looked around and got a strange look on his face and said, "Dina and
Drew, I smell a rat. I think we have been duped by Agatha Tillison."

Jeff started to visit with everyone. Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln announced, "We
would like to take Bobby and his homework club to Omaha for lunch and a
movie while we do some shopping. Check with your parents guys."

Toby and Teddy quickly got permission. Spencer talked to Tyler and Gigi
and came back and said, "I can go, but I need to go home and get some money
first."

"We'll pick everyone up in 30 minutes." said Mr. Lincoln.

Chris said, "Hey Denny come here and meet Beau."

Denny Johnson, who I knew from the practice, came over and said, "Hi Beau"
They shook hands.

"Wait a minute. He's not coming to school is he? If he does, we'll never
be able to get a date." Denny said.

"What in the world are you talking about?" asked Chris.

"Look at Beau's eyes. He'll have all the girls crawling all over him."
Denny said.

The guys were talking when Drew came to me and asked, "Doctor Dad, could I
borrow my car to take us to Omaha to a movie?"

Jeff perked up and asked, "Who are us?"

"Kenny and I have asked Dina and Lori to go to with us." Drew answered.

"I assume everyone's parents have given their approval, right?" Jeff
pushed.

"The Hendrixs, the Johnsons and the Lincolns have said yes, so I just need
to check with Grandmother." Drew said.

He turned to Aunt Cora and asked, "Is it okay if we go to a movie and
return by five o'clock?"

"No." said Aunt Cora.

"Okay people so much for our plan. Doctor Dad, I guess I won't need my
car." Drew said.

"Wait a minute Mr. Washington. I didn't say you couldn't go to Omaha. You
can take the two ladies to the movies, but then you and Mr. Hendrix can
take them to dinner, and still be home by 7:30. Do you have a problem with
that?" Aunt Cora laughed.

"No Ms. Washington. Doctor Dad, I guess I will need the car, after all."
Drew said.

"I'll tell you what, Drew, I'll take it home and pick up the T bird and go
to the hospital, so Michael and I can check on Davey and you can pick up
the car." I answered.

"Mom and Dad, it is okay if I go with Doctor Dad, isn't it? I promised
Davey I would check in on him today, but I doubt if he remembers." Mickey
asked.

Eric said, "That's fine son. By the way, I am very proud of you."

"Wait Jack." said Ben. "We would like to take you, Jeff, General
Beauregard, Denny, Chris and Mickey to Omaha for lunch, and some power
shopping. Is that okay with those of you who can claim these culprits?"

The Johnsons, Bresslers, and Smiths shook their head yes and then shook
them in disbelief. Dr. Armstrong and all of Jeff's friends from school
were standing there laughing and Dr. Armstrong said, "I think there must be
something in the water in this church."

Everyone started to leave, but Beau picked Chip up and said, "Commander
Chip, you make sure your Mommy and Daddy get a lot of rest today, and I'll
see you bright and early in the morning."

"Bye General Beauregard." Chip said, as he kissed Beau on the cheek.

When we got home, I noticed Sammy just disappeared. I shed my coat and
tie. Mickey went to his room. He came back and opened my pajama drawer
and took out some money. Beau and Jeff were standing there. Teddy came in
and got some money from Jeff's pajama drawer. Beau really started to laugh,
"Someone sure was thinking. Doctor Dad and Jeff would never find your
money there. We're lucky they even wear briefs to breakfast."

"That's exactly what Teddy said when we were trying to find a safe place to
hide our money." said Mickey. "Let's go, Doctor Dad.'

"I'm going too." announced Teddy.

"You probably should go to the bathroom first, with your little bladder."
Beau said.

"Why? How far is Omaha?" Teddy asked.

"About an hour." Jeff answered.

Teddy went into the bathroom and did as suggested. When he came out, he
said, "Don't you guys take any of our money." as he ran out of the door.

Beau and Jeff went downstairs and Jeff pulled out his backpack and started
to read. Kenny and Drew just walked in. "We done brought this Menace with
us, so you wouldn't have to pick him up. Here are the keys to my truck."
said Kenny.

"The keys for Drew's car are on the table in the hall." Jeff motioned.

The guys started to leave, but Beau called out. "We want a full written
report on what happened. You two do have your chastity belts on don't
you?"

Mickey and I walked into Davey's room, Mickey said, "Sorry we are late but
Dr. Wilson's son has so many friends and they all wanted to visit." He
walked over to Davey and pulled out a handheld game and said, "I brought
this, to keep you from getting bored, and I even brought some extra
batteries in case the ones in the game wear out."

"Let me check Mr. Davey for a minute. I closed the curtain and checked
Davey vitals and looked at his incision. He seemed to be as good as he
said. I opened the curtain and said, "Mr. and Mrs. Montgomery, it looks
like this young pup is doing just fine. If he lays still and rests, he
should be able to go home tomorrow, but I don't want him to go to school
until Thursday. I'll order one more test for this evening, and if the
results are okay when I come in the morning, you will be able to take him
and tie him to his bed."

"Thanks Doctor Wilson." Davey said. "I'll be good. Now, make Mommy and
Daddy go home and get some rest, and get cleaned up. I'll be fine. Now
Mr. Hero, come here and give me another hug so I can take a nap."

Mickey hugged Davey and the two of them were laughing. Mickey hugged Davey
again and Davey was kissing Mickey when someone took a photo. "What was
that?" asked Davey.

"We're taking some photos for your scrap book." Colin answered.

As we were going into the hall, Colin asked, "Mickey, could we take another
picture of you and then could Michelle talk to you for a couple of minutes
so Davey's scrapbook is complete?"

Mickey left with Michelle and came back before long. "Okay Doctor Dad, we
have to be going."

Before we could leave, Colin handed Mickey some money, saying, "This is for
last night, and we don't want any argument."

Mickey started to complain, but I pulled him to me and said, "We need to
get going. Talk to you tomorrow." That didn't stop Mickey from
complaining to me the entire way home.

When we got to the house, everyone else was waiting for us. We piled into
the van, and the four guys talked the entire time with Beau mostly
listening, "Where would you gentlemen like to go for lunch?" asked Ben.

"Could we go to the Red Lobster and see if Kyle is working? Teddy hasn't
stopped talking about Kyle and Mr. Horner and the food. Okay guys?" asked
Mickey.

Everyone agreed and thus we ended up at the Red Lobster. We walked in and
the same young hostess was working. "Good afternoon Mr. Wilson, Kyle is
working. Let me tell him you are here. He is just seating another party."

Kyle came out and said, "Hi Jeff, I see you brought Doctor Dad, Dr. Josh
and Doctor Ben, but I don't think I've ever seen any of these handsome
young men, before. What did you all do to find the four best looking guys
in Fremont?" Kyle laughed.

"Come this way, gentleman. I think I might have a surprise for you." Kyle
said, as he led us to the back area. He took us over next to another
table, and asked, "Would you like a table for eight, or for fourteen?" He
grinned, as he pointed to the Lincoln's and the birthday boys who were
studying their menus.

Jeff started to laugh and Spencer looked up and said, "Oh no, they're
following us."

Everyone turned to look, and started to laugh. Beau said, "We're not
following you. All we had to do was home in on the devices we planted on
you guys when you were asleep yesterday." Teddy said, "Hardly, General, we
all showered and changed clothes and have an entire different set of
clothes today so we would have found them."

Mickey said, "I guess you young guys must have been messing around and
missed some of the opening on your body." He started to move his mouth and
not make any sounds.

Beau and Chris picked up on what he was doing and started to do the same.
All of a sudden Denny started to pretend he was laughing and then faked
talking to the three guys.

"What in the world are they saying? I can't hear a word." said Toby.

"I smell a rotten egg." said Spencer.

The four 13 year olds moved behind the birthday boys and pretended to pull
some out of their ears. "Now maybe they can hear." chided Denny.

"I want to see what you put in our ears." demanded Teddy.

"Nope." said Beau. "We're going to take the devices home and sterilize
them, and the next time you guys screw up, we will plant in another
opening."

Kyle decided to stop the fun and said, "Okay Mrs. Lincoln, what would you
like?" asked Kyle.

"Sir, I've been so busy listening to these young people, I plum forgot to
decide. Why don't you start with Jeff? I think he already knows what he
wants."

Kyle moved behind Jeff and said, "You heard the lady. What would you
like?"

"I'll have a cup of clam chowder, a house salad with dressing on the side,
and then I would like the 'design your own plate' with two items, with
fried scallops and fried shrimp, no potato and the zucchini please. I'll
have lemonade if it's fresh."

Kyle moved to me and I had the same thing as Jeff, except with coffee. Ben
and Josh did the same thing and the Lincolns changed the coffee for iced
tea. Then the interesting orders began.

Bobby said, "I'll have daiquiri for starters, and I'll have the lobster
bisque, house salad, the design your own platter with a crab cake and
shrimp scampi, French fries, and no vegetable. I'll have a large cola with
my dinner."

"Is that a banana or strawberry daiquiri, sir?" Kyle asked.

"Banana please." Bobby answered.

"Okay one V. banana daiquiri." Kyle said, as he moved to Toby.

Toby said, "I'll have a strawberry daiquiri, crab soup, Caesar salad,
special platter with broiled shrimp and shrimp scampi with French fries,
and I'll have a tall glass of 7up or whatever you have like that."

Teddy said, "I'll have a V. strawberry daiquiri with clam chowder, the
Caesar salad, two item plate with fried clams and fried oysters with French
fries and no vegetable and a glass of chocolate milk."

Spencer looked at him and said, "Sir, I'd like the minestrone soup, and a
house salad with the dressing on the side. I would like the two item
special with fried scallops and a crab cake, a baked potato with a little
butter, the zucchini and a large glass of milk."

"Now young man, I know you are either Mark or Matt's brother, but I don't
remember which one was who." Kyle said.

Chris said, "Yep, Mark Bressler and is my big brother. I'd like the
lobster bisque, house salad, the two item special with fried clams and
fresh broiled shrimp with French fries, no vegetable and a cola."

"Okay young man, I don't think I know your family. I haven't seen anyone
with that devilish look in their eyes. What can I get you?" Kyle asked,

"You're right. I don't think my family has been in here for several years,
and I only have a sister, who is sixteen. I am the new kid in the crowd,
and you can call me Dennis the Menace. I would like the clam chowder with
cole slaw, the two item platter with calamari and fried oysters, and an
order of onion rings, no vegetable and a large cola."

"Now Mr. Smith, you sure look like your brother Teddy. What can I bring
for you?" Kyle asked.

Mickey answered, "I'd like the minestrone soup, with house salad, two plate
item with, what kind of fresh fish do you have?"

"We have flounder today." Kyle answered.

"I'll have that broiled and a broiled shrimp with a baked potato with sour
cream, the zucchini if is sautéed and a large glass of milk." Mickey
finished.

Kyle moved to Beau and said, "What would the young man with the most
stunning eyes like?"

Beau looked at Kyle and whispered. "Sir, I have no idea what most of these
things are. It's like everyone is speaking a foreign language, and I don't
know if I like any of these things."

Jeff heard what he said and said, "Kyle, why don't you start him out with
the same things as me, and if he doesn't like them, we'll get him something
else. Why don't you also bring him a baked potato with butter?" He turned
to Beau and asked, "What would you like to drink?"

"I'll have milk, please." Beau answered.

""Oh, and Kyle, we'll have the usual. I'll pay for them." Jeff said.

"Okay, seven lobster tails, split in half." Kyle said. "Anything else?"

"What was that all about?" asked Denny.

Beau looked around, and the people who didn't know what was happening
looked confused. Beau said, "Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln, and guys, "I'm sorry to
be like this, but I am overwhelmed. I haven't eaten in a restaurant for
more than three years, and even then it was nothing like this. I don't
have any idea what most of the things we're eating are, and consequently
have no idea what they taste like."

Kyle was standing there listening as Beau finished, he said, "I'll be
assisted today by Jacob, who prefers to be called Jake." They put baskets
of rolls and crackers on the table. Kyle started to serve the drinks as
Jake came back with the rest of the drinks. They left and came back with
the soup and quickly placed it in front of us."

Everyone was busy eating their soup when they started serving the salads.
Bobby suddenly asked, "What did Kyle mean by V. banana daiquiri?"

Teddy looked at him said, "It simply means a banana daiquiri without any
alcohol. You may be ten going on 21, but you won't be getting alcohol
soon. V stands for virgin."

Everyone laughed and started eating the salads and then Jake and Kyle
started to bring the main courses. Everyone was watching Beau. He
tentatively tried everything. He finally started to eat, but he kept
watching how everyone else was eating whatever.

Editor's notes:

Beau is so adorable. I just want to go get him and bring him home. I like
Chip, in fact I love him, but Beau is so vulnerable, and innocent, and for
someone that has been through all the things he has been through and is
still very lovable, that is totally amazing. Also, it is amazing to
compare him to Sam, and see the self centered brat that has had pretty much
anything he has wanted, act like a total jerk, while Beau has been a
gentleman, makes me almost totally dislike Sam. I admit that I still hold
out some hope that Sam will see the light and try to become a better
person. At least Jeff is around, and maybe he can do something that will
help Sam change.
