Growing Up Navy - 14

The confrontation between Jared and Matty ended as many of these kind of
arguments did over the years, with Mrs. Wolters. The sound of yelling had
carried all the way from the basement family room to her bedroom. She
waited a few minutes, and when it didn't stop, she intervened.

"He started it!" Matty whined, hoping to get a little leniency from the
court.

"He ruined my CD!" Jared yelled, glaring at his younger brother.

Mrs. Wolters gave them the look. "Grounded, both of you, starting tomorrow
after school! No phones, TV, computers, or visits from friends, only books
and schoolwork."

Jared and Matty both looked at their mom and opened their mouths as if to
speak.

"Not another word, or it's two weeks!"

The boys backed down.

"And, I want the keys to the truck!"

Jared rolled his eyes, "No, not that, please?" he whined like a five year
old.

She gave him a withering look.

"Yes, ma'am," he whispered.

As she walked upstairs, Mrs. Wolters heard Jared tell Matty, "This isn't
over!"

For Jared, having to ride the bus to school again bordered on inhumane and
cruel treatment. The picture of a puppy being scooped up and shoved into a
dog catcher van ran through his mind. "There should be a law against making
kids ride the bus," he thought, settling into a seat near the back. A
couple of younger kids pointed at him and made crude comments about the big
kid that had to ride the bus again. Jared hunkered down and tried to
disappear.

As he was walking down the hall to his locker, Jared saw Carlos coming his
way. He couldn't help but smile knowing that they shared the same secret,
they were both dating boys.

"Hey," Jared nodded as Carlos drew closer.

"Sup?" Carlos answered.

"I just wanted to tell you I had a great time at Daren's. Would you tell
him that? I didn't get a chance to see him before we left."

Carlos smirked. "Don't worry, he knows you had a good time."

Jared didn't understand.

"We were in the bathroom, we saw it all! You guys were really getting it
on!"

Jared blushed and then took a quick look around to make sure no one had
overheard.

"It's cool," Carlos laughed softly. "Don't worry about it. Say hi to
Christopher for me."

Jared smiled. "I will, and thanks again."

"Word has it you got your ass grounded," Tyler laughed as Jared pulled a
couple of books out of his locker.

"Word gets around fast," Jared mumbled, slamming the door.

"What did you do?" Tyler laughed.

"Yelled at my brother."

"Shit, if parents grounded every kid that did that, no one would ever get
out of the house."

Jared sighed, "Well, it's a little more complicated than just that."

"Like what?"

Jared didn't want to tell Tyler about Christopher's CD, and besides, Matty
had later given back the original disc, explaining he and TJ hadn't damaged
it, just made a copy and `improved' it.

"I called Matty a douche bag just as mom came down the stairs."

Tyler laughed. "No wonder you got busted."

"Can we change the subject?"

After the argument, Jared had called Christopher to tell him about Matty
and TJ's prank, Christopher had laughed his ass off. He had soon stopped
laughing however when Jared had told him about being grounded.

Tyler smiled. "So, do you want a ride to school tomorrow? I saw you
climbing off the bus."

Jared grinned. "I was going to ask you at lunch! Thanks for saving me the
trouble."

"No problem, I'll pick you up at 0730."

* * * *

Tyler was true to his word and picked Jared up at the house on time. The
school day went much better not having to endure the bus ride. As the last
class ended Jared looked forward to a quiet supper.

Tyler pulled into the alley and dropped him off at the back door. Jared
came through the kitchen and tossed his backpack on the counter on the way
to his room. As he turned the corner near the stairs he glanced into the
living room and saw his mom standing by the window.

"Hi, Mom."

Mrs. Wolters turned, and the look in her eyes caused Jared to stop in his
tracks. His stomach turned. He saw her tears, her red eyes, and a deep,
deep, sadness. As their eyes met she tried but couldn't hold back a
sob. Jared hurried to her.

They hugged and she held him tighter than she ever had before. "What's
wrong?" Jared choked, not wanting to hear her answer.

She sobbed again.

Tears came to Jared's eyes. "Mom, please?" he begged, he had to know.

"A staff car pulled up and an officer and a Chaplain got out," she sniffed,
holding on to Jared as if for dear life.

Jared trembled, his fear overwhelming him. "God, no!" He'd only talked to
his dad a couple of days ago, he couldn't be...

"Lance Corporal Phillips just left for Afghanistan four weeks ago," his mom
whispered.

"Huh?"

"Those poor babies," she broke down in tears. "They lost their daddy."

Mrs. Wolters continued to talk, but Jared didn't really hear the words. All
he could think was, "It's not Dad!"

Some moments later, Jared came back to what his mother was saying. "Are you
sure?" he asked, wiping back his tears, "I mean, maybe it's not what you
think!"

"TJ's mom called. His Dad was on the same helicopter. They went down after
taking ground fire. Two members of the strike team were hit. TJ's Dad got
out all right, but Lance Corporal Phillips didn't make it."

This time it was Jared that held on tight and more tears came. "Stevie's
only six," he softly cried.

"Katie just turned four," Mrs. Wolters whispered.

Jared sobbed, "When I saw you, I thought it was Dad." Tears continued to
roll down his cheeks. He shook; the fear had been too much.

"I thought so too when I saw the car, but it continued on to the Philips'."

Mother and son held each other, thankful the car hadn't stopped at their
house, but sad that it stopped at all.

* * * *

Jared met Matty at the door. As Jared told him about the helicopter going
down, Matty's face had turned an ashen grey. When he heard that Lance
Corporal Phillips had been killed, he stood silent, tears filling his eyes.

"TJ's Dad?" He asked his voice halting and fearful.

"He's okay," Jared said quickly, wrapping his brother up in a hug. "He's
okay, he really is!" Jared whispered again and again.

Matty pulled away. "Take me to TJ's house," He said firmly, but with a
pleading look in his eyes. "Please?" he cried softly.

Jared nodded. "Mom's across the street, I'll call her." Jared knew she
would say `yes' for this.

* * * *

Matty calmed down after seeing TJ and confirming his Dad was all right.

Jared quickly agreed to watch the boys when TJ's mom said she felt she
needed to be with Mrs. Phillips.

The late afternoon turned into evening.

* * * *

Over the next few days, Mrs. Wolters watched friends come and go from the
house across the street, helping out in any way they could. But, she knew
despite the help the community provided, grief is something that each
person must handle themselves. It was still going to be hard for those left
behind.

A service was held in the Base Chapel but Mr. Phillip's body wasn't
present. A table at the front of the sanctuary held pictures, flowers, and
a display of his medals. The Marine would be buried a few days later with
full military honors in his hometown.

Matty clung to Jared all through the service and wasn't more than half a
step away when they were coming or going.

"How are you doing?" Jared had whispered at one point. Matty looked up and
his eyes watered.

"I know," Jared had said softly, pulling him close, "Me too."

* * * *

"It's so good to hear you!" Mrs. Wolters said, the joy evident in her
voice. She had been anxiously awaiting her husband's call and was relieved
to finally receive it.

The Chief told his wife about the last few weeks aboard ship, his routine,
the frustrations, and the joys. Mrs. Wolters just let him talk on, barely
saying a word.

"You seem pretty quiet," the Chief said, perhaps sensing there was
something he was missing, "Is everything all right with you and the boys?"

Mrs. Wolters sighed softly, "We're fine. But Bill Phillips was killed last
week."

"Oh," the Chief whispered.

"Afghanistan," Mrs. Wolters said by way of explanation.

"Marines are always out front," the Chief said softly.

"The boys are having a tough time dealing with it."

"I'm sorry I can't be there to help. They need to understand that's just
the way it is when you wear the uniform."

"I know, but TJ's Dad was in the same fight."

"I'm sorry."

Mrs. Wolters shook her head, "It's all just so hard."

"I love you, I love the boys. You tell them that for me, all right?"

"Come home soon!" Mrs. Wolters cried softly as the connection faded and the
line went dead.

* * * *

Jared wasn't surprised when Matty quietly slipped under the covers and
snuggled up close. He had been crawling into Jared's bed every night since
the news of Lance Corporal Phillips' death. It was now more than three
weeks.

Jared hugged him, no words were needed. It had been the same thing night
after night. After a few minutes, Jared decided it was time.

"You need to start sleeping in your own bed again," he whispered, running
his fingers tenderly through his brother's hair.

"I'm scared," Matty whispered.

"I know, we all are, but you're thirteen. You're not a little kid anymore."

Matty looked away.

Jared gently touched his chin and turned him so they could look into each
other's eyes. "You can do this, you're strong, brave, and you know it's
what Dad would want."

Matty was quiet for a moment. "Why does there have to be wars?"

"I don't know," Jared sighed softly. "I wish I knew. But we can't hide from
things that frighten us. Sometimes we just have to suck it up and face it."

The boys stared at one another for one long minute. Jared pulled Matty
closer. "Ready to sleep in your own bed?"

Matty looked up, his eyes seeming to say, `I'm trying to be brave!'

"One more night with you?" Matty asked softly.

Jared nodded. "Deal," he said tenderly.

* * * *

To Christopher, it seemed like it had been ages since the art show and that
wonderful night with Jared. He had heard what had happened and understood
Jared needed to take care of things at home. It still didn't make being
apart any easier.

"Is Matty in bed with you again?" Christopher laughed as he and Jared
chatted late one night.

"No, he's in his own bunk." Jared chuckled softly. "I can think of someone
that I'd wish was in my bed though."

"Hmm, I wonder who that would be?"

"The boy of my dreams," Jared whispered.

"I asked my mom if you could come over and spend the night," Christopher
said softly.

"You did?"

"Yeah, I can't believe I actually did it!" Christopher laughed.

"What did she say?"

Christopher giggled, "That it was about time that she and Brandon spent a
weekend with Granddad."

Jared laughed, "No way! She said it was okay?"

Christopher's voice got very soft, "She kissed me on the cheek and smiled,
`I was young once too you know' she said."

"Your mom's the greatest."

"Yeah, so, can you get away?"

"I think so," Jared said hopefully. "But, my mom told me she wants to meet
the mystery girl that I talk to every night," he laughed.

Christopher really giggled at hearing that but then grew quiet. "When are
you going to tell her about me?"

"Soon," Jared promised. "I just need to find the right way." "You'll
figure it out," Christopher said softly.

"Love you, Babe," Jared said gently as they got ready to end the call.

"Sweet dreams!" Christopher whispered.

* * * *

Jared wouldn't have believed it possible, but he and Christopher spent an
entire twenty four hours in Christopher's room, much of it in bed. The
first hour was a slam bam hurried race to the finish, with both boys
greedily using each other's bodies to get off. They had practically torn
the clothes off each other.

"Well, I think we can safely say you didn't forget how to fuck!"
Christopher laughed as the teens lay side by side recovering from the first
round.

"Yeah, some things you NEVER forget," Jared grinned.

A break for food, a run to the bathroom to pee, a DVD, video games, and
then back to loving. The hours went quickly by. After three wild encounters
the boys fell into an exhausted sleep.

* * * *

As the first light of day streamed through a gap in the curtains,
Christopher stirred. He snuggled closer to his boyfriend, enjoying the
sensuous feeling of his warm body next to his.

Jared had turned to his side, away from Christopher sometime in the
night. Christopher spooned in, lightly kissing him on the back of the
neck. He ran his finger softly over Jared's shoulder, down his arm, then
curved forward over his tummy. He caressed his boyfriend's firm abs and
played with his belly button.

"Are you feeling me up?" Jared yawned.

"Yup," Christopher giggled.

"Okay," Jared sighed contentedly, and pushed his rear end back into
Christopher's crotch.

They lay like that for several long minutes, Christopher exploring Jared
with his finger tips, giggling every now and then.

Christopher's hand slid over Jared's ass a few times and finally came to
rest there. The ever inquisitive finger explored the crack of his
boyfriend's butt and then found the wrinkled pucker in the middle. Jared
didn't resist as Christopher played back there.

"Can I put my finger inside?" Christopher asked softly as he continued his
games.

Jared was quiet for a moment. "Okay," he said very softly, a touch of
uncertainty in his voice.

Christopher crawled to the night stand and retrieved the lube. He put a
small glob on the end of his finger and crawled back. Leaning down, he put
his face close to Jared's ass and then tenderly pried the two cheeks
apart. He softly spread the clear gel over the wrinkled portal and then
ever so slowly inched his finger forward.

Christopher looked for any sign that he was hurting Jared, but didn't see
any. He inched deeper.

"God, you're hole is so tiny," Christopher laughed softly.

"Nothing's ever gone up there, that's why," Jared giggled.

Christopher slid deeper and deeper until he had his entire middle finger
firmly inside Jared's butt.

"Shit, that's tight!" he whispered, turning his finger, and then gently
pulled it back. Just before he pulled it out, he slid it forward
again. "You okay?" he asked tenderly.

"Yeah," Jared replied, his voice a little husky.

Christopher slowly worked his finger around in there, searching for new
places he could reach.

"Oh, that's starting to feel really good!" Jared whimpered. He pushed his
ass back a little, apparently wanting more.

Christopher twisted his finger and started to fuck in and out a little
faster. He buried it deeply in Jared's guts and then pulled it back, only
to do it all over again. Jared reached for his dick and moaned. Christopher
smiled as Jared stroked himself in harmony with the finger that was sliding
in and out of his rectum.

The boys coordinated their movements, with Christopher's finger acting like
a little cock, fucking in and out of Jared's hole. A few minutes later,
Jared grunted, pushed his ass back, and shot.

"Oh, fuck, that feels good," he grunted.

Christopher jammed his finger inside him again and again. Three squirts,
and Jared's cum was all over Christopher's bed. He pumped a moment more and
then settled down, his orgasm fading.

Christopher slowly pulled his finger out of his boyfriend's bottom and then
playfully wiped it on Jared's ass cheek.

"Have a good time?" Christopher laughed softly.

Jared rolled over, pulled his boyfriend on top of himself, and gave him a
deep kiss.

"You never told me having something in your ass felt THAT good!" Jared
grinned.

Christopher giggled, "You think that was fun? Just wait, next time it'll be
my dick!"
