It was at one o'clock in the morning when Jason finally
insisted that they go to bed. Ben does not realize how
exhausted he is from staying up so late until he trudges up
the stairs to brush his teeth. He does so tiredly, without
paying attention. He then goes to his bedroom, undresses and
pulls on light blue pyjamas. He is about to climb into bed
when he hears a knock at the door.

"Come in," he says. Jason enters the room and pulls down
the comforters for Ben. He feels strange doing this for his
younger brother. Now that Jason is sixteen, it is the first
time his parents have had him babysit his younger brother Ben
overnight. This time, in fact, for an entire weekend.

Ben climbs into bed, and allows his older brother to do
what his mom usually does. The thought makes him giggle a
little, and Jason smiles back at him while he pulls the covers
tightly around him. Jason leans forward, says good night, and
plants a kiss on Ben's lips. Ben giggles again, and says good
night. He is glad his brother tucked him in; he needs this
familiarity more tonight than ever before.

He does not know why, today, he has this feeling of need.
The shadows in his bedroom, created by the hallway light and
the night light, move as Jason closes the door. The door
closes softly, but Ben's stomach jumps at what he hears as a
loud bang. He begins to settle down, realizing that the click
of the door simply startled him, when there is suddenly
nothing but blackness. The night light has gone out, and a
light, summer breeze comes in through the window. Even though
the short lived draft is warm, summer wind, it chills his
face—the only part of his skin that is currently unprotected
by the softness of his cotton pyjamas or the warmth of his
comforter.

He wants to get out of bed and tell his brother, but he
is ten years old and wants to be brave. And besides, it is
just one night, and he is already in bed. He can go one night
without the comfort of the light. Ben determinedly closes his
eyes. He finds, after being startled twice, that he is no
longer tired.

He thinks about earlier that evening, when he was eating
dinner alone with Jason. Jason promised him that tomorrow, he
would take him to the amusement park, and on Sunday to a
movie. And for the rest of the time, they could play video
games, or watch television until late like tonight. Ben
smiles. It is going to be a fun weekend. He begins to relax,
but his body suddenly tenses up again when he hears creaking.
It must just be Jason getting ready for bed, he thinks.

He begins to drift off into a wakeful slumber, half
awake, half dreaming. The creaking of the floor continues in
his head. He hears it coming from the direction of his
brother's bedroom, but also from the stairs, and from
downstairs, and outside. A car alarm in the distance. An
opening door.

His door. He dares not open his eyes to see what has
entered the room. He now hears silence. He is warm and
comfortable in his bed, but goose bumps appear on his skin,
because he can feel this thing, whatever it is that has
entered his room, walking around, examining his things. Ben
begins to wonder why it has not come for him yet, and when it
does, what it will do to him. But maybe, if Ben does not see
it, or make a sound, nothing will happen.

A tree branch outside cracks suddenly. Ben's eyes open
involuntarily, and lightning casts the shadow of the monster
on the wall. Suddenly Ben hears screaming, and feels
something wet. The screaming seems to be coming from
somewhere far, but it is himself. He looks around frantically
in the dark for the monster that he can feel but not see, and
he screams, trying to bury himself deeper and more tightly in
the blankets.

He flails his arms as well against the barrier created by
his brother's masterful tuck-in, against this monster that for
sure will finish him off. He is covered in sweat, and there
is something even more wet in between his legs. And then
suddenly he feels something grip him, tightly, and shake him a
little bit.

Ben's eyes open to see Jason with one hand on his
shoulder, the other ripping away the comforters. Ben hears
Jason's comforting voice, asking if he is ok. Ben finds
himself crying, but the screaming has stopped, and there is
the safety of his brother's touch. Ben knows there is no more
danger, but he is still shocked and shaking from the
experience.

He finds himself being lifted out of bed, and held
against Jason's body. Jason carries him into the bathroom,
where he leaves the door ajar. He does not turn on the light,
but allows the light from the hallway to creep in. He sits
Ben on the edge of the tub, and sits beside him and holds him.

"Hey, you ok buddy?" Ben takes a deep breath. There are
still tears, but he is calm, and he realizes now why he is wet
between his legs. He is embarrassed and looks down, putting
his hands over it. Jason says nothing, but instead reaches
over and opens the faucet, running a bath. "What happened?"
he asks, over the running water.

"N-nothing," Ben says. "Just a nightmare I guess."

"I see. Hey, don't worry about that," Jason says,
carefully lifting Ben's hands away from the wetness on his
pyjamas. Ben is still shaking, and he is now cold from no
longer being in bed. There is thunder outside but he does
flinch. He feels Jason's hands moving down his upper body,
un-buttoning the pyjama top and slipping it off. Ben stands
at Jason's request, and allows his elder brother to remove his
pants and underwear, and lower him into the hot, comforting
water.

The heat relaxes his muscles, and he immediately feels
cleaner, even before Jason begins taking soap in his hands and
rubbing it gently over his neck. They say nothing to each
other. Jason devotedly bathes this boy, who enjoys the
comfort of the touch, and the feeling of no longer being
scared. The bath is almost over, and Jason hesitates, but
then takes Ben's penis into his hands, pulls back the foreskin
and begins to clean it. He looks into Ben's face as he does
this, to see whether or not this is alright. The boy looks
back serenely, saying nothing, even though he feels himself
getting an erection.

Jason, despite himself, finds this exciting. So he
stops. Confused at this reaction. But he does not leave. He
takes a large towel and uses it to dry Ben. From his
brother's room he extracts a clean pair of shorts and pyjamas,
and watches Ben, whose erection has now faded, dress. They
have silently decided that Ben, tonight, will sleep with
Jason, and so they go together into Jason's bed.

It is once again pitch black, but Ben is not scared.
They lie in bed, facing each other, neither of them closing
their eyes, even though they have both said good night.
Jason, unable to resist this new temptation, reaches over and
puts his hand inside Ben's pants, feeling once again the soft
penis, hidden under the fold of skin that is such a pleasure
to pull back. Once again, it becomes hard in his hand. He
releases it only so that he can pull the pants away.

"Let's do this for each other," Jason says. "Do it for
me as well." Jason pulls down his own pants, releasing his
own erection, and a ripple of pleasure flows right through his
body as Ben touches him. The boy, even at ten, has naturally
masturbated before this, and knows what to do. And so they
lay together in darkness, providing this pleasure to each
other. Ben is grateful at his brother's saving him from the
monster; Jason is fascinated by this new source of sexual
satisfaction. He feels Ben have an orgasm. There is no come
from the boy, but the spasms, and loss of erection, show off
Ben's pleasure. Jason puts his hand around his brother's,
guiding it to work faster and harder, so that he too comes
from his brother's touch.

When this is over, they continue to face each other, but
this time with their eyes closed, and they fall asleep with
their hands holding. There will be no more monsters as long
as the bond between these brothers is never broken.

The End
