             Jacob Avers was an only child in the Pennsylvania Amish
community of 1960.   This was not only unusual in the community but looked upon as a
curse on Jacob's  Parents.  Samuel and Bertha,  His Parents were but 17 when
they had  Jacob and rumor was they had to marry because Bertha was " With child"
as it was  said.  Thus the reason for the curse.In the minds of the community
of  Amish.  As time past this was never fully forgotten or over looked by the
 community at large.  Jacob's Mom Bertha made and sold pies that were sold
in season at the Amish markets in Philadelphia.  Hers sold best of all and
many non-Amish in Philly would ask for " Bertha's pies and not buy if none were
available.  Yet within the close Amish community at barn building and  Sunday
meetings Bertha's pies were untouched.  While not officially shunned  by their
Amish community the way they and Jacob were treated was close  enough.
     Samuel Jacob's Dad tried to put up  with it all in the hopes that by
good example and hard work and prayer in time  the family would over come this
feeling and be fully accepted by the  community.  This was never the case with
Jacob.  He hated the way his  Parents were treated all these 19 years of his
life and couldn't help in some  ways blaming himself?  He knew that was really
wrong but the fact remained  he felt some guilt just for being born.  Born of
love but not up to the  standards of The Strict Amish.
     His love of his Parents was  unconditional and there was nothing he
wouldn't have done to make life easier  for them.  The year Jacob would have been
allowed by Amish rules to leave  the farm and explore the outside world he
gave up because he was needed on the  farm being the only child.  Together Jacob
and his Parents did the work of  five on the farm and smiled the whole time.
This made Jacob strong in  sprit as well as in body. At 6'4 he towered above
all the boys his age.   His muscular body made the local Virgins blush just
seeing him shirtless and the  men as well admired his body.
      Jacob was not the  only one in the Amish community to know the side of
being an outcast.  His  own Cousin Samuel also 19 had gone away to Philly for
his year to explore the  outside world and sew his wild oats.  Samuel had
decided not to return to  the harsh life of his Amish roots after that year and
remained in Philly.   Thus Samuel became a non person to the community and was
to be officially  shunned by all or face excommunication if they dared talk to
him.  Jacob  secretly kept in touch with Samuel through a non Amish Friend in
town who would  get letters from Samuel and pass them on in secret to Jacob.
Through these  letters over a year now Jacob learned much about the outside
world and what  Samuel was doing in it.  Samuel had started out working for
messenger  service on bike through the streets of Philly.  Getting his own four
room  apartment and even his own car after learning to drive.  He'd taken up
drinking and smoking but as he said never in excess.  He made many friends  in
the outside world and soon he admitted to Jacob that he had to be honest  about
his sexuality.  He Samuel was living as an openly homosexual Man in  Philly
at 19 years of age.
     This admission of his  Cousin threw Jacob for a major loop.  It was
against all he had ever been  taught.
It was not God's design.  Jacob couldn't  bring himself to answer that letter
for the longest time,  He had no idea  how to answer it?  On the one hand he
wanted to not cut off his beloved  Cousin, On the other hand he was bought up
to hate the very thought of what his  Cousin was doing!  Time, Time and prayer
he thought would lead him to  solving the problem of keeping his only real
friend and his  beliefs?
     Days and then weeks went  by and the prayers were being sent to God on
the matter,  Also the soul  searching by Jacob.  In the still of the night in
his room alone with his  thoughts,  He would masturbate and his desires and
thoughts were  always on Samuel and Samuel's hard tight male body.  Thoughts of
the  pleasures another male stranger was knowing of Samuel's naked male body
that Jacob wanted to know to touch and to feel. Jacob had decided to  write to
Samuel and tell him that he too had those desires and that he wasn't as  sure
as before that these thoughts and desires were all that against God's  design?
     Jacob woke that morning  With the determination to write that letter to
Samuel and have his friend mail  it to him by days end.  He was alone on the
farm as his parents and his  Uncle and aunt with all six of their children were
in Philly selling their wares  in the Amish market.  Having milked his last
cow Jacob was walking to the  house to fix breakfast when he saw a strange
sight.  A state police car  coming into the yard?  two State troopers were getting
out of the car and  along with them was the Amish Bishop getting out of the
rear seat of the police  car.  This couldn't be good Jacob thought as he walked
to the three  men.
The Bishop was saying as Jacob got  closer.

" Son, I've bad news.  The good Lord has  called your family home to him.
Your Parents and Your Uncle and Aunt along  with all the children have been
killed in an accident in Philly this  morning.  Please let us kneel and pray for
them  Jacob."
                              Two weeks later

Samuel was called and came for the funeral of his  own and Jacobs Family.
Even at this trying time the community refused to  lift the shunning of Samuel.
And Jacob was advised to do the same but  refused!

Together the two 19 year olds meet with the lawyer  in town.  Deeds and will
having been read and executed so that each boy,  Jacob and Samuel now owned
the two a joining farms. During this time  Samuel stayed with Jacob on his farm
and they each hired local Men to run the  two farms for them.
      Jacob was told by  the Bishop on one visit after the funeral that he
too was to be shunned now that  he was talking to and having a shunned person
living in his home.  Jacob  laughed in the Bishops face and in front of Samuel
said He was himself pulling  out of the Amish life once and for all.  As the
Bishop left in a huff and  condemning the two to hell Jacob and Samuel hugged
each other.  They were  both alone completely now.  Yet not alone.  They had
each other and  they had that one secret between them.  That both were gay.  As
they  separated from their first hug Jacob was saying as he smiled at his
handsome  blonde cousin.

" you have much to educate me on Samuel. And  I promise to be a good pupil
for you"

With that Jacob surprised even himself by reaching  down and touching
Samuel's penis.
