Thanks for the positive comments after chapter five. I really enjoyed
writing the chapter, but was hesitant about posting it. And then when my
Internet access didn't work last Friday, I wondered if it was some kind of
sign ... lol

Anyway, it was great hearing from a new guy, and several long time readers.

Several of you have been sending me invitations to join various social
networks. I really want to thank you for asking, but I won't be able to
join any of them. I barely have enough time to keep up with what I'm doing
right now. If you want to contact me, you can always send me an email
(fotogme11@yahoo.com). That's the best way. However, if I happen to be on
Yahoo! Messenger, you can sometimes get ahold of me that way, too.

I hope all of you enjoy chapter six!

Chapter Six:

(Ben narrates this chapter.)

I know I'm an official member of the family, since Chris asked me to write
a chapter of the story. (big smile)

On Saturday night, it was well after midnight when Tina and I went to bed.
And after we made love ... and Tina fell asleep ... I lay in bed reflecting
on our life together.

Looking over at Tina, I realized anew how much I loved her ... and how
lucky I was that she agreed to marry me, almost twenty years earlier. I
was afraid Tina would be bored on the ranch, but she's often the busiest of
us all.

Josh laughingly said she'd never get them to grow, but Tina's rose gardens
are fabulous. She spends a couple of hours each morning tending them, and
in the early afternoons, Tina works on the computer ... doing something
... but I've never been able to get her to talk about it. She loves baking
for 'her boys', as Tina calls the teens who live on the J bar A ... and I
guess Josh, Tim and I fit in there someplace, too. Her many varieties of
yeast breads and rolls have become legendary around the ranch.

A smile crossed my face.

And after school, our kitchen becomes Grand Central Station, as all the
ranch kids drop in for a snack. I think most of the boys have adopted Tina
as their surrogate mom ... and she loves playing that role!

Slowly, my mind turned from thoughts of my wife to the upcoming week; a lot
was supposed to happen. Among other things, Tim and I would have our first
client for J bar A Photography.

After meeting Tim and his boys, everything had happened so fast. I'm
usually the kind of person who takes a lot of time weighing the positives
and possible pitfalls of a given situation. But there hadn't seemed to be
any REAL negatives, when it came to going into business with Tim and Josh.

Well ... maybe one. Apart from a short trip with Tyler and Chris, I hadn't
been able to devote any time to my nature photography ... and that was why
I sold the motel, in the first place. But as I thought about it, maybe
THAT was really for the best, too. I knew it generally took several years,
and lots of money, to build a successful outdoor only photography business
... if it was ever successful. Many talented, aspiring nature
photographers never make it.

Back then, Tim and I still needed to work out exactly what each of our
responsibilities would be. But after we got our feet solidly on the
ground, I envisioned Tim spending most of his time in the studio or with
clients, while I devoted myself to shooting all the natural beauty that
Colorado afforded. (It hasn't worked out that way, but I'm the happiest
I've ever been with my work.)

Just as I was about to drift off to sleep, I heard a key rattling in the
front door followed by the muffled voices of Chris and Tyler.

Like all parents, I glanced at the clock and saw it was just after two.

Back in Kansas, Tyler had a one o'clock curfew on the weekends. The old
Ben would have probably been angry with Tyler for staying out so late. I
used to worry that Tyler might take up with the wrong crowd ... every
parent's concern, I guess. But things were different here in Colorado, on
the J bar A. Heck ... WE were different ... and I was just pleased that
Tyler and Chris had decided to spend the night in our house. Not that they
were ever far away, but it was good to have them under Tina's and my roof
every once-in-a-while. As everything worked itself out over the weeks and
months, the boys pretty much settled into a routine of spending weeknights
next door and Friday and Saturday nights with Tina and me.

But nothing was set in stone ... and I think we all liked it that way.

I suppose the boys must have been tired; I know I was. As soon as they got
home, I heard their shower begin. But I must have fallen asleep shortly
thereafter, because I can't remember it ending.

Anyway, the sound of our boys going at it, hot and heavy in the next room,
woke me on Sunday morning. And like most guys, I guess, at the sound of
hot sex, my dick suddenly came alive. Tina was still asleep as I began to
gently, but oh so urgently, hump my stiff member against her side.

After she woke up ... with a smile, I might add ... I tried to match Tyler
stroke for stroke. And I think I was pretty successful at it ... for a
forty year old, at least!

As Tina and I lay in bed, arm in arm, basking in the afterglow from our
mutual orgasms, we heard both Tyler and Chris have their second of the
morning. While mine had been good ... and Tina had really enjoyed hers
... I think the boys next door bested us. But given time for some
foreplay, I think we'd have given them a run for their money! Heck, we
might have even been able to teach the BOYS a trick or two about making
love.

Anyway, Tina and I got up to fix breakfast.

And as the combined aromas of freshly brewed coffee, and frying bacon
filled the house, our sons joined us in the kitchen. Both Tyler and Chris
were ecstatic about their date last night.

"G'morning, Mom and Dad!" Chris exclaimed, with a kiss for Tina and a manly
hug for me.

"Morning, Chris," Tina answered, smiling broadly.

Tyler slipped his long legs around a kitchen chair and rested his chin on
the back, as he peered lovingly at Chris.

"What ... no kiss for your mom this morning?" Tina asked him, pretending to
be hurt.

Tearing his gaze away from his lover, Tyler grinned.

"Come here, Ma," he said, spreading his arms wide.

And as he hugged her, our son planted a big, wet kiss on Tina's cheek.

"Love ya," Tyler added. "And you, too, Dad."

"It looks like you two must have enjoyed your date, last night," Tina
observed, as she, Chris and I took our seats and began to pass around the
food.

"How'd you guess?" Chris asked, glancing toward Tyler.

"Motherly intuition," Tina answered, before laughing. "That ... and the
fact that both of you boys have grins that won't quit."

"Whatever," Chris replied, shaking his head and smiling more broadly. "But
you're right, Mom; we had an awesome time!"

Tina beamed with pride, when Chris called her Mom for the second time that
morning.

"Cole was sure right about that place," Tyler said, after swallowing a
mouthful of food.

"Where'd you guys go, anyway?" I wondered aloud.

"It's called 'The Campus Club'," Chris replied. "It's a place where both
gay and straight college guys and gals hang out together. And there were
sure lots of guys there with other guys. But there were quite a few
straight couples there, too." He took a drink of milk. "A bunch of
singles, and even some girls with girls."

"And they let you guys in without a problem?" I asked ... and then I added,
"I mean, you two SURE aren't twenty-one ... and you aren't college
students, either."

Tyler laughed, before answering. "Cole said we wouldn't have a problem
with that, as long as we didn't try to order a couple of beers. And he was
right ... they never asked to see our I.D.'s."

"But they had good food, and dancing," Chris advised. "Dancing with Tyler
was LOADS of fun ... even if we did step on each other's feet a few times
..."

He took a couple quick bites of scrambled eggs and bacon.

"I think I could have danced with Tyler all night!"

"And when they closed, we drove up into the foothills and parked
overlooking all the lights of the city," Tyler added, shaking his head.
"We've gotta have dates like that more often!"

It seemed like the boys couldn't stop talking about last night. Even
though they had done TONS of stuff together over the past couple of months,
I was sure their first real date would always hold a special place in each
of their hearts.

Welling with fatherly pride in Tyler ... and yes, Chris too ... I stood to
my feet, stepping behind them.

"I love both of you guys," I commented softly, placing a hand on Tyler's
left and Chris' right shoulder.

Chris looked back at me and smiled.

I wrapped my arm around him and pulled Chris tightly against me.
Regretfully, I'd never been a father who showed a whole lot of emotion
towards Tyler when he was younger. But I suppose Tim's personality was
rubbing off on me ... and I squeezed Tyler to my other side in a loving
three-way hug. None of us spoke as we enjoyed each other for a long
moment.

"I think you found a good one, Tyler," I finally said with a smile.

"Yeah, Dad," Tyler replied, "I sure did."

That morning at the kitchen table was an extra special moment for me: one
that I'LL never forget, as Tina looked on and smiled warmly at the three of
us.

But like such times must, it ended all too quickly. The boys had planned
to spend most of the day hiking with some of their friends, and it was
almost dark when they got home.

By the beginning of the second week of school, I think the boys had settled
into their daily routines, but I still hadn't discovered what mine would be
... at least not concerning the photo business. In fact, I still don't
have one, after six years of shooting with Tim.

Noonday meals at the ranch sure weren't the same with the boys in school.
The din of lively conversation, that I'd grown accustomed to over the past
few weeks, was reduced to less than half of what it had been. Of course,
eight teenaged boys can do a WHOLE LOT of talking!

Over lunch, Josh, Tim and I discussed how the studio construction was
progressing. It seemed that after the initial flurry of activity to open
up the interior of the building, we'd be in a lull for a week, or maybe
more, before the electrical rough-in would begin. But then things would
begin to happen fast.

"I've been trying to make a mental list of all the equipment we'll need for
the studio," Tim stated. "Maybe after we clear this up," ... he gestured
to indicate the lunch mess ... "the three of us can sit down and talk about
it, and then write everything down. After we know exactly what we need, we
can let out for bids on the equipment."

We agreed that sounded like a good plan, and spent the bulk of the
afternoon in Josh's office doing just that.

Looking over the list we'd compiled, I shook my head.

"I had NO idea we'd be talking about so much equipment," I commented
softly, glancing over at Josh. "It's going to cost a small fortune!"

Josh eyed the list and then looked from Tim to me.

"We're going to have the best photo studio in the state of Colorado; and I
wouldn't have it any other way!" he stated firmly. "With the talent and
people skills you guys have, I have no doubt we'll have it operating in the
black in no time."

Right then and there, I resolved in my heart ... again ... that I would do
everything in my power to make our business venture a success. It hasn't
been easy; but six years later, I look back on what J bar A Photography has
become and shake my head in wonder. In that first summer, I'd never have
imagined it in my wildest dreams!

But every big undertaking begins with a few small steps, and Tim and I
would be taking a couple during the coming week.

After a light breakfast on Tuesday morning, Tina, Tim and I sat around our
kitchen table talking about the photography club meeting at the high
school, that evening. It would be our first as sponsors.

"So what are you guys going to talk to those kids about, tonight?" Tina
asked with a smile.

"I'm not quite sure," I replied, nodding towards Tim. "But I'm sure we'll
come up with something."

"At least we'll know a couple of the guys, going in," Tim commented,
obviously referring to the fact that it was Chris and Tyler who'd asked us
to take on this responsibility in the first place. "For better or worse
..."

Smiling, I asked, "I wonder if there'll be many kids in the photo club this
year?"

"Hard to say," Tim replied. "When we talked to the administration about
sponsoring the club, the vice-principal said it was pretty small last year.
And he didn't say how many of THEM had been seniors."

"It sounded like they're responsible for taking Yearbook candids around the
campus," I said, taking a sip of coffee, "and not a whole lot more."

"Well ... I want to make it more fun for the kids, this year," Tim
commented. "Who knows ... the next Ansel Adams might be sitting in that
room with us tonight!"

(Author's note: Ansel Adams was probably the greatest black and white
nature photographer in the United States, during the twentieth century
... and arguably, one of the best landscape photographers of all times. He
developed the "zone system" which allowed black and white photographers to
achieve a tonal range from the blackest blacks to the whitest whites in
every photograph. His work is spectacular, and you might want to check out
his website sometime. www.anseladams.com )

I nodded my head in agreement. I guess I'd never thought about it that
way; but when I did, I looked at sponsoring the photography club in a whole
different light.

We talked among ourselves for quite a while, discussing what we planned for
the first meeting, and decided to open it with a short slide presentation,
to show the kids where we were coming from ... photographically speaking.
And a few hours later, Tim and I were standing in the Art Room, before
several kids who thought they might be interested in photography.

For a small group, they were a varied lot! Counting Chris and Tyler, there
were five students ... four guys and one girl. A couple of them had
cameras dangling from straps around their necks. Tyler was the only
upperclassman; Chris and the light-skinned, African-American young lady
were sophomores, while the other two guys were freshmen. One of the guys,
who appeared to be Asian, was about the same size as Ryan. The way kids
dress, they were a motley-looking group. But like Tim had said, there
might be a budding young photographer among them.

At a couple minutes after seven, Tim leaned against one of the art tables
and cleared his throat.

"Hey, guys ... my name is Tim Matthews," he began with a smile. "And this
is my friend and business partner, Ben Wilson."

I raised my hand half way and nodded towards the kids.

"We've just moved to the Boulder area," Tim added. "And we're in the
process of setting up a photo studio on the J bar A ranch, north of town."

"Cool!" the Asian boy commented.

"My boy, Chris ..."

Chris raised his head, acknowledging his dad.

"And Ben's son, Tyler, asked us if we'd be willing to sponsor the club this
year," Tim stated. "And we'll do our best to make it a fun learning
experience for all of you."

Tim asked each of the kids for his or her name, while I recorded them on a
piece of paper for the school office. And as I was preparing to begin the
slide presentation, the door to the Art Room opened.

"Is this where the photography club meets?" an average height guy, with
long, dark hair and dressed in low-slung, baggy jeans and a slouchy,
oversized t-shirt asked.

A skateboard dangled comfortably from his left hand.

"It sure is," I replied with a smile for the youth. "Come right in and
take a seat. We're just about to begin. My name's Ben Wilson, and my
partner, over there, is Tim Matthews."

"My name's Brad," the kid replied, returning the smile. "Brad Jonas."

Brad straddled one of the art chairs, before reflexively adjusting his
package and taking a seat. He nodded 'hello' to his fellow students, after
placing his skateboard on the floor, between his feet.

Smiling, I added Brad's name to the list.

"We were just getting ready to show you guys a few slides of Ben's and my
work," Tim advised, taking a seat at one of the tables.

Tim, Chris, Tyler and I had arrived fifteen minutes early and the boys had
connected the digital video projector to Tim's laptop. It was all ready
for me, and after turning off the lights, I clicked through a few of my
nature pics and a handful of Tim's studio shots.

"So that's what we do," Tim commented as the lights came up.

The kids had a few questions for us ... about how we got into photography,
whether we had to go to college to learn about it, how long we had been
shooting, etc. And we did our best to answer all of them.

All the kids said they owned a camera, but not everybody had brought them
to the meeting.

"I'm not sure what each one of you wants to get out of the Photography
Club," Tim commented. "And I'm not really sure what they've done in other
years. But both Ben and I want to make the club a fun, hands-on experience
for all of you, THIS year."

"We'll teach you as much as you want to learn," I added. "But it's not
going to be like a classroom. We'll probably spend most of the meetings
out taking photos, or looking at the ones you've taken. The more pictures
you take, the better you will become."

"So be sure to bring your cameras with you to every meeting," Tim said.

All the kids seemed to like that.

"And if you know of any other students who enjoy photography," I added,
"invite them to our meeting next Tuesday."

I wasn't sure whether Tim should have mentioned what he said next, since we
still had a few hurdles to clear with the school administration. But as
the meeting was drawing to a close, Tim scanned the small group.

"And keep September 20-23 open," Tim stated with a smile. "We're trying to
plan something I think all of you will enjoy ... a lot!"

Well, that's it for chapter six. One of the disadvantages to posting a
chapter a week, like I do, is that once in a while you readers get a
chapter like this one. As a stand-alone chapter, it probably doesn't do
very well. But I did give you quite a bit of information to further the
story line.

I wonder if Tim and Ben are planning what I THINK they're planning for
those dates in September? I've told you before, I think of these guys
almost like real people. And strange as it may seem, they've surprised me
in the past!

I'd sure like to hear from you (fotogme11@yahoo.com) with your comments on
this chapter or what the future holds for the guys. Suggestions are always
welcome! If you would like to join the Yahoo! Group for my stories, you
can do that here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ill_suck_you/join

Have a great week, everybody! Greg
