There will be many flashback sequences in this story so as not to confuse
anyone, when a flashback takes place, there will be an asterisk (*) before
the start of that flashback.

"I shouldn't have said what I said." His voice seemed sincere enough but
the wound was still fresh, too fresh for me to dismiss it as anything but
backtalk.

"Well you did."

"You know I wouldn't purposely say anything to hurt you Richie. We've been
friends far too long for something like this to come along and fuck it up."

I still decided to play this blame game just to see how much I could get
out of it and him.

"Why are you here Bobby?"

He ran his hands over clean shaven face and looked directly at me, "Because
I want you to come back to work for me. I need you there with me. We both
earned this and we both deserve to be in the spotlight."

And I had to admit that I had never seen him so humble, so sorry, so
relentless.

"I don't know if I can go back to that Bobby. Your friends don't want me
there and I don't want to have defend my race or my sexuality to anyone
including them." The edge to my voice must have sobered him up for he sat
up, looking alert and ready for action.

"It's no body's' business how you get off ok. If it doesn't bother me, it
sure as hell shouldn't bother them and about you being white, it doesn't
matter. The guys are just trying to push your buttons, see how far they
can push you."

"I don't like being pushed Bobby, you of all people should know that." And
with that he seemed lost in thought as if remembering that time.

* "Hey kid! You! Bible freak!" I knew they were talking to me but I
ignored them and continued to walk.

"Hey fuck face. I'm talking to you." The big guy stepped in front of me
blocking off my path.

"Me?" I managed to stutter bringing with it a barrage of laughter.

"Yeah you shit head." Another fit of laughter broke out.

"Leave me alone."

"What? Did you guys just hear what fuck face said to me?" His two
comrades just nodded and repeated my statement.

"Leave you alone! Why should I leave you alone? You're on my territory
bible freak."

"Yeah, his territory. I say you should knock his ass into the ground." His
friend chided in.

"No!" I cried hysterically dropping all my books and running away. But
despite my efforts they both caught up to me.

"You made me break my bottle you fucking egghead!" The bigger one screamed
knocking me to the ground. I felt something trickle down my nose into my
mouth - blood.

"I didn't do anything." I cried trying to ward off the blows. All of a
sudden I heard someone call out my name and looked up to see Bobby running
to my aid. The bigger one tried to head him off but instead found himself
beside me holding his nose.

"You broke my nose you..."

He didn't get the chance to say anything else because Bobby had kicked him
in the stomach.

"You ok Richie?" He asked helping me up.

"Yeah." I cried trying to get away from him.

"Richie wait!" He called after me but all I did was run until his voice
was nothing but a distant memory.

"I'll come back on one condition." He seemed to break out of thought at
the sound of my voice.

"Anything."

"I want back my old job."

"What about Ernie?"

"Has he been doing a good job?"

"Richie."

"Has he? You know if it were me you wouldn't even be in this mess with
that girl. I was a good publicist Bobby and you know it."

"Ok you can get your job back but it's you and Ernie. Up until now he's
been doing a decent job."

I decided to give him a little leeway so I agreed and that was how it went
for months on end. Surprisingly Ernie and the gang started being nice to
me even offering to take me out clubbing with them without Bobby around. I
didn't feel comfortable in the beginning but the constant asking and
Bobby's urging for me to get to know them made me decide to go with them to
a club one night.

"You'll like it Richie, it's got some beautiful women and I'm sure one or
two good looking men." I looked over at Ernie surprised that he would even
make such a statement knowing his views on my lifestyle.

"What? You think I'm a homophobic asshole don't you."

"Sorry, it's just that..."

"It's ok, I understand. I figure we might as well all try and get along
since we'll be working with Bobby and all. Nothing worst than a publicist
that can't keep his shit together." I had laughed and had allowed him to
lead me into the club. And to say that I had a good time was an
understatement. I had a great time. We all danced to hip-hop and one or
two slow jams. And towards the end of the night Ernie gave me the shock of
my life.

"You need a drink Richie?" He seemed to be screaming or it could have been
my slowed reflexes due from all the alcohol.

I had shook my head but still accepted the beer bottle he placed before me.

"Thanks."

"You're welcomed. By the way, I brought someone over here for you to
meet."

I looked up to see a good-looking Spanish guy towering over me, gracing me
with a toothy grin.

"Have fun!" And by the time I looked up Ernie was nowhere to be found. In
the meantime my Adonis was seated across from me and started a
conversation.

"You're looking good tonight."

Did I hear right, I couldn't help but think. "Thanks, so do you..."

"Quentin. And you are..."

"Richard."

"Well Richard I'm not going to waste any of your time. I came over here
because you are so fucking sexy and I want to take you out back and fuck
your brains out - if you would so kindly oblige."

Now I knew I was hearing things. Did he really just say what I think he
just said?

"Excuse me?" I managed to get out in my drunken stupor.

He leaned into me and tongued my ear while whispering, "I want to fuck
you." And it was then that I realized that none of this was imagined. It
was all real and this hunk of a man wanted to sex me up, something I hadn't
have happened in such a long time, not since Michael a year ago. And in my
state I was more than happy to oblige.

"Come on." He said taking me by the arm and leading me out to the back
alley.

Coming to a far end of the wall he started to unbuckle his pants while I
tried to regain my composure realizing what was going to happen.

"I don't have a con...."

"Shh." He whispered into my ear, "I got you covered." And it was then
that he took a Trojan or a Durex, it could have even been Reynolds wrap for
all I knew, out of his jeans pocket and tore into the packet with his
teeth.

He turned me around facing the wall and quickly dislodged my pants from my
body.

"This is from a mutual friend." He whispered just before penetration.

"Uhh." I managed to get out as I tried to adjust to the girth. It was
obvious that I would not get any foreplay so I tried to go with the flow as
quickly as possible and before I knew it, I had popped my top and came in
my hand while he filled the condom with cum. With that over and done with,
he pulled out and rearranged his clothes, disposed of the condom and went
inside not acknowledging me.

Where did you guys go last night?" Asked Bobby as he jotted down words
into a notebook.

"Some club."

"Had a good time?"

"I guess."

"You guess." He replied looking up from his work at me.

Last night had been something that I would have rather forgotten. The
whole incident with Quentin just didn't set well with me and something
about it seemed staged. I felt like I had been set up but for what I
didn't know. I left the club in a club as soon as it was over and had
avoided Ernie and comrades since then.

"Yeah, it was ok."

"Well I'm glad you had a good time."

"Me too. I'm glad you had a good time Richie." I turned to see Ernie
walking towards us.

"You did have fun didn't you man?"

"Yeah." I answered feeling vaguely uncomfortable with the situation.
Something was definitely amiss.

"I'm going to and get lunch Bobby. You want anything?"

"No thanks."

"Ok." And as I walked out the door, I could vaguely hear Ernie in the
background laughing to himself.

It seemed that since the first minute I stepped out of my apartment, all
eyes were on me. Now don't take this to be paranoia because it wasn't, all
eyes were on me. I made a stop at a gas station and as I was pumping gas,
the young attendant came up to me and uttered the word 'faggot'. I looked
at him quizzically and jumped into my car as fast as I could and drove
away. At the office it was more of the same, snide remarks and crude
comments made for no apparent reason. And as I was about to open the door
to my new office, Bobby, Ernie, Greg and the rest of the gang stepped out.

It seemed that all were looking at me, some with disgust others with hate
and the person whose opinion really mattered to me wouldn't even look my
way.

"What's going on?" I asked. No one answered but instead threw a
newspaper, which turned out to be the New York Exhibit on the ground. And
to my utter shock and horror, plastered on the cover was a picture of me...

And Quentin, fucking behind the club in the alleyway. Of course all the
necessities were blurred out but it was obvious what was happening. Above
that picture was a big bold caption that read: EX PUBLICIST TURNED
ASSISTANT OF FAMED R&B SINGER ROBERT KNIGHT CAUGHT IN HOMOSEXUAL ESCAPADE
WITH CONVICTED CHILD MOLESTOR.

"Bobby I..."

"You see this shit Bobby! You let a faggot run your show he's gonna run it
right into the goddamn ground. Who's gonna buy your album when they know
you got a homosexual child molester working on your staff. You want to be
another casualty of bad publicity like R Kelley?"

"Bobby I didn't..."

"Think about your career man. You're on top right now, don't let this
pervert drag you down. Don't let his kind drag you down."

Greg looked at me, constantly shaking his head, "I have to agree with Ernie
Bobby, this is not good, not good at all. You have to let the man do his
job or your career is going to go down the tubes. Do you really want to
lose all this hard work for this." He announced taking up the paper and
shaking it and even though he looked at the paper when he said it, I knew
he was really referring to me.

"Bobby please let me explain." And for a second his eyes seemed to soften
but then everything changed and he pushed his way past all of us and walked
into an empty office slamming the door behind him.

"You fucking set me up?" I declared gearing up to throw down.

"I don't know what the fuck you're talking about?" Ernie said smirking out
of the side of his mouth.

"You know damn well what I'm talking about. That guy at the club, Quentin.
He said to me 'This is from a mutual friend'. He was talking about you."

"You're a fucking lunatic on top of being a faggot. Get the fuck outta
hear before I bust your ass." And before I could stop myself I lunged for
him only to be pulled back by his entourage.

"Let me go."

"Let the faggot go. He wants to fight, let him fucking fight. I'll bust
his ass from here to..."

"Shut the fuck up, all of you." I turned to see Bobby standing off to the
side, his face blank, something that confused and hurt me. Not to know
what he was thinking, how he was feeling, it made me want to kick myself
for my own stupidity.

"Greg, this is your call. I'm not gonna fuck this up." And turning to
look at me, he continued with, "for no fucking body."

I was hurt beyond belief as I felt his eyes cut through me, it was if he
wanted to kill me.

"I'm sorry Richie but I got say that you gotta go. If Bobby was ever your
friend, you'll leave without any trouble. What he does from this point on
can make or break his career. You saw how they did Kelley in the press.
Where's his career at now?"

"Fine I'll leave but know this, those pictures didn't just magically appear
there. Maybe you need to take a good look at who your friends are." And
with as much dignity as I could muster up, I walked away.

I LEFT A CLIFFHANGER SO I HOPE IT IS WORTH ALL THE EFFORT I PUT INTO IT. I
