After dinner that night as Steve and the boys sat and watched TV, I made my
weekly phone call to my two kids.  Kelly and Kate where both doing well as
expected.  Kelly had graduated college a couple of years ago, got married
to a girl he met in college and was now living in New Mexico.  Kate had
also graduated and was working in Colorado.  I don't get to see them much
but I call them every Sunday evening to check in with them. As expected
they were both doing well and we talked about them coming out for
Thanksgiving in just a couple of months.

Both my kids know that Steve and the boys were living with me.  I told them
as soon as Steve and the boys moved in back in the beginning of the year.
I didn't tell them that Steve had moved into my bedroom.  In fact they have
no idea about my preference for guys.  At least I don't think they do.  I
have to start thinking about how I am going to tell them when they come to
visit at Thanksgiving.  I would never ask Steve or the boys to put on a
charade to hide my feelings for Steve and the boys.  I just hope and pray
that they will accept my life as it is now and accept Steve and the boys as
family.

Over the next several weeks we began to fall into a routine with the boys
being back in school.  Most days I would make it home before Connor was
home from school.  I would help him with his homework if he had any while I
made dinner.  Steve would stop by the high school to pick up Sean and Colby
after they finished with swim practice.  Steve would drop Colby off at his
house on the way home.

Once Steve and Sean got home we would all sit down at the dinner table to
eat together as a family.  I loved having family dinners again.  I missed
having kids at the dinner table when Kelly and Kate moved out.  After
dinner Sean would normally help Steve and I with the cleanup since Connor
would help me get dinner ready.  Once everything was done the boys were
free to go outside and play ball or do whatever they wanted until it was
time for them to be in the house.  Steve and I wanted the boys to have some
relaxation time before heading to bed so we asked them to be in the house
by dark each school night.

We all went to bed fairly early since both Steve and I got up very early
for work.  Most nights Steve and I were headed to bed by about nine thirty
or so.  We had the boys go to their rooms at nine and wanted lights out by
ten each night.  Steve and I would enjoy our alone time for a while.

Over the last few weeks that Colby had moved back with his parents, Sean
would wander in our bed room around ten thirty each night to climb in bed

It must have been about the third week of swim practice when Sean told us
that Aaron had offered to drive Colby and Sean home after practice each
night.  Steve and I talked about it and decided that it would be a big help

night.  I said, "It would sure help us out if Aaron could bring you guys
home.  We can only speak for you.  Colby will have to get permission from
his parents."

Steve added, "We would like to meet this Aaron and would like offer to pay
for his gas.  Since tomorrow is Friday, why don't you ask him if he would
like to stay for dinner when he drops you off.  Ask Colby if he would like
to come for dinner also."

Sean just said, "That would be awesome dad.  I will call him after dinner."
Sean finished his dinner as fast as he could and then ran off to make his
phone calls.  First he called Colby to make sure that he could stay for
dinner and then called Aaron.

Aaron was lying on his bed in just his boxers when his phone rang.  He
answered, "Hello."

On the other end of the line, Sean could hardly believe that he was calling
a senior to ask him if he could stay for dinner.  Sean said, "Hey Aaron,
it's Sean from the swim team."

"I told my dads about your offer to drive me and Colby home after practice
and they said that would be great but they would like to meet you first.
They asked if you wanted to stay for dinner tomorrow night after practice."

"Awesome.  Well I guess I will see you at school tomorrow.  Later man."

"Cool. Later."  As Aaron lied there he thought to himself, "Did Sean say
dads.  As in two dads?"

At practice the following day, Aaron, Sean and Colby were the last to leave
the pool and then the last to get into the shower.  Coach walked through
the shower telling everyone to hurry and leave.  Aaron and the boys were
still in the shower.  The coach yelled out, "Aaron, I locked the door to
the pool make sure the outside door is locked after making sure everyone is
out of here."

Aaron yelled back, "Sure, no problem coach."

The three took their time enjoying the hot shower after a hard practice.
After removing their practice trunks and rinsing them out all three walked
out of the shower headed to their lockers to dry off and get dressed.
Several minutes later they were walking to Aarons black Jeep Grand
Cherokee.  Aaron was given the Jeep by his parents when he got his license
a couple of years ago but has since added some very cool looking chrome
wheels and had the window tinted along with adding a new stereo.

Aaron unlocked the Jeep and jumped in behind the wheel.  Sean took shot gun
and Colby slid in the back seat behind Sean.  It only took a few minutes to
drive from the school to our house.  Sean led the way in the house with
Colby and Aaron behind him.  Connor and I were in the kitchen making dinner
when they walked in the door.  Sean led Aaron into the kitchen to introduce
him to me and Connor.

When I saw them walk around the breakfast bar, I looked up just as Sean
said, "Mike this is Aaron.  Aaron this is one of my dads, Mike and that
over there is my little brother Connor."

Connor yelled back, "Hey, what do you mean by that over there?"

Aaron held out his hand as he came around the breakfast bar to shake my
hand.  Aaron shook hands like a man, nice and firm.  Then he turned to
Connor bumping fist with him.  He smiled and said, "Nice to meet you guys."

Just then Steve walked in the house and came into the kitchen.  "This must
the Aaron you two have been talking so much about."  It was hard to tell if
Aaron was blushing or not because of his dark complexion.  We later found
out he was part American Indian which explained the dark and smooth
complexion.

Steve went up to Aaron and shook his hand.  Sean spoke up saying, "Aaron
this is my dad Steve."

Aaron smiled as they shook hands, "Nice to meet you sir."

Steve smiled back, "What's this sir crap.  Sean and Colby's friends call me
Steve.  I assume you already know everyone else."

Aaron answered, "Yes sir.  I mean, yes I have Steve.  Thanks for inviting
me over for dinner."

"Our pleasure Aaron, we just wanted to meet you since you will be hauling
these two knuckle heads around for us."

Sean just replied with a big smile on his face, "Come on Aaron and Colby.
We don't have to stand here for this abuse.  Let's go to my room until
dinner is ready."

The three of them went to Sean's room and Steve went into our room to
change.  When Steve came back out to the kitchen he asked, "Can I help with
anything?"

I said, "Nope, almost done.  Just waiting for the lasagna to finish and
then we will be ready.  Connor's got the table set so once this is done we
will be ready to eat."

Steve looked to make sure our guest was out of site before giving me a big
hug and a quick peck on the lips.  "So what do you think of Aaron so far?
I think Sean and Colby really like him."

"He seems to be a very responsible young man, very polite and friendly.  I
would like to know a little more about him before we say yes, but so far so
good."

A few minutes later we were all sitting around the table eating and
chatting with all the boys.  Steve found an opportunity to ask Aaron about
his family.  Aaron was happy to answer.

"Well not much to tell.  I live about four miles from here.  I live with my
dad and younger brother in an old farm house my dad bought.  It's like a
hundred years old.  My mom lives in the next town.  She is a doctor and
works crazy hours.  She and my dad are still married but separated for
about the last six years or so.  I plan to attend the local community
college after I graduate this year and then move on to a university after
that."

Steve smiled and said, "Good to hear.  You sound like you have a good head

with his folks."

Colby made a quick call to get permission.  Again his dad was a little
