MARTIN ROBERTS INVESTIGATES THE GREYMOUNT COLLEGE
MURDERS

Chapter 2

In the almost three years since he had come to
national prominence during his investigation of the
Disco murders, life had changed quite dramatically for
Superintendent Martin Roberts. The first change had
been personal in that both he and his partner, Tom
Baxter, had adopted two children, both boys, now aged
just over two. The arrival of these two youngsters had
brought changes to both their lives, more so however
from Tom than Martin. Tom had agreed to give up his
lucrative career as a civil rights barrister to stay
at home to look after the children. To his own
surprise Tom had found the change from court work to
acting as a consultant was quite satisfying and the
variety of cases gave him plenty of mental exercise.
Now that the children had turned two, both Tom and
Martin were considering sending them to a part time
nursery several afternoons a week with the objective
of allowing them to go full time when they were three.
This would enable Tom to return to go back to his
Chambers for parts of the week. Martin had remained in
the Metropolitan Police and was still the
Superintendent in charge of the specialist unit that
investigated crimes against gays. In addition to this
work, the Superintendent had been given greater
responsibility in regards to the Metropolitan Police's
public relations activities. Martin often spoke to
various gatherings about the changing role of the
modern police force as well as appearing on radio and
television crime discussion programmes.

It was a quiet weekend for the two men and their
children and they had enjoyed their time together as a
family. Martin enjoyed the limited times he got to see
the children and usually took the lion's share of
their care at weekends. They had all been invited to
spend the afternoon with their old friends Chief
Inspector Mark Jamieson, his wife, Ruth, and their
son, David. After the conclusion of the investigation
into the Disco murders, Mark had left Martin's team to
take up a new post following his promotion. The Chief
Inspector still lived not far from Martin and Tom but
now was leading the detective division of a police
force just outside the London area. Martin had spent
some time getting the two boys ready and they were
both excitedly waiting for Tom to appear. Martin
smiled at Harry and said,

"Run and ask Tom to hurry up, will you?"

The small boy ran off, closely followed by his
sibling, Simon, both boys calling for Tom and returned
moments later dragging their other parent behind them.
The afternoon went extremely well and all three boys
seemed to play well together while the grown-ups
chatted about a wide range of topics. All too soon it
was time for Tom and Martin to get their children
ready for the return journey. They had just begun to
do this when the telephone rang and Mark hurried to
answer it. It was obvious from the look on the Chief
Inspector's face that the call had been a serious one.
Mark looked at the other adults before solemnly
saying,

"There been a body found in the grounds of a local
private school, I'm afraid I'm going to have to leave
as soon as possible and get over to have a look. It
may be that it's the result of an accident but until
we've confirmed that I'm going to have to treat it as
a suspicious death."

"Absolutely right, Mark. You can't tell me the name of
the school can you?" came the reply from Martin, "It's
just that I am scheduled to speak at a school near
here tomorrow morning ^Ö Greymount College I believe it
is. Mike Rickwood is driving me there in the morning."

"What an incredible coincidence, Martin, that's where
this body has been found!"

"Well I won't interfere, Mark, but if Mike and I can
be of any help and if you think we should still go
tomorrow let me know."

"And, if Ruth would like us to stay behind and help
clear up after the kids, we'd be happy to oblige,
wouldn't we Marty?" chimed in Tom.

Ruth smiled appreciatively but said,

"That won't be necessary, thank you both for offering.
I'm quite used to losing my husband at critical
moments like these."

The visitors and their hosts made their way to the
door and after they had made their farewells, made
their way to their cars. As they were leaving, Martin
rolled down the window and called across to Mark,

"Let me know if you want any help or if you don't want
us there tomorrow."

Mark waved and replied,

"Will do!"

As they drove back to their apartment, Tom looked
across at his lover and said,

"I hope that you are not going to get too deeply
involved, I know that you enjoy working with Mark but
we have responsibilities now and I need your support
at home."

"I know, Tom. I can't get involved directly as it's
not my area and Mark will be in charge. Also we don't
know if the death is suspicious, an accident or
suicide. I was only being helpful as a friend. Unless
Mark asks directly for Scotland Yard to intervene I
could only be there in an advisory capacity and my
superiors would have to agree to that anyway."
Tom was less than satisfied with the response but let
the matter drop, as it was the first time since they
had the children that the possibility of a conflict of
interests had arisen. Throughout this discussion, the
young children, who were in the back of the vehicle
and secure in their car seats, slept peacefully.
Neither of them hardly stirred when they were carried
inside and put straight to bed.

It was still early but Tom suggested that he and
Martin took advantage of the fact that the children
were tired out and they themselves had a early night.
Tom hand caressing his lover's cock through the
material of Martin's trousers accompanied the
proposal. The older man began to harden immediately
and this was taken by his partner to signify the older
lover's full agreement with the plan. The pair of
lovers quickly retired to their room where they lost
no time in undressing each other and then tumbling
onto the top of the bed. Tom could not wait to get his
lips around the velvety soft exposed head of Martin's
cut prick and wasted no time in achieving his
objective. Martin swung his body into a position from
which he could reciprocate and take his lover's uncut
cock into his mouth as well. With the children in the
house the two men had become less uninhibited in their
lovemaking and, although they still enjoyed a good
long slow fuck, they had found that their mutual
pleasure in oral sex often satisfied their most
pressing needs. Tonight was no exception and each of
the two used their lips, tongue and occasionally their
teeth, to tease and excite the other. Martin had
become an expert on how to give the maximum amount to
his lover by using his lips and tongue on the most
sensitive parts of the uncut cock and Tom was equally
skilful at pleasuring his partner. The slow build up
began until each man had the other's rampant dick deep
in his throat and their fingers played with their
balls and arse holes. After a short while they began
to slide in and out of each other's mouths and to
increase the speed of their thrusts. It was soon
obvious that the inevitable result was not going to be
delayed for much longer and it was Tom who unleashed
his powerful blasts of cum first. Martin felt the warm
sticky spunk fire into his throat and onto his tongue
as he fought to swallow the tasty tribute. The effect
was to set the older lover's orgasm into motion and
soon Tom was receiving his reward and gulping down the
torrent of jizz that Martin's balls had produced.
After their sexual needs had been satisfied the two
lovers lay side by side on the bed arms enfolding each
other before they finally pulled the covers over each
other and drifted off into a contented sleep.

As usual Harry and Simon awoke early the next morning
and the sounds coming from their bedroom brought both
Tom and Martin back to consciousness. Martin went into
the boys' bedroom and supervised the process of
getting them up, washed and dressed and Tom prepared
the breakfast for the four of them. Just as they had
all sat down to eat the telephone rang. It was Mark
calling to tell Martin the latest developments on the
dead body found at Greymount College.

"It appears that he was a teacher at the College but
it's not clear why he was in the place where he was
found, apparently it is out of bounds to all students.
The first indication is that it was either an accident
or suicide. Obviously everyone at the College is in a
state of shock but I get the impression that they
would like you to come to give your talk and then they
can try to keep some form of normality going. Some of
the students, especially those in the dormitory where
he was Assistant House Master, are very upset but
their House Master and the Principal think that your
visit would be of great value."

"OK, then Mark I'll be there as arranged. See you just
before 11."

As Martin replaced the receiver, Tom looked at his
lover and said,

"So you're going to the College this morning?"

Martin smiled reassuringly at his partner before he
replied,

"Yes, Tom. But don't worry, they seem to think the
death was accidental and there is only a question of
why he was in the building that he was found. So
there's no need for me to get involved."

"I'm glad to hear that, Marty. I hope he's right."

Harry and Simon looked at the two men and started to
giggle and make a mess so Tom and Martin returned
their attention to the two children, who immediately
began to behave themselves. Martin looked at the two
boys sternly and said,

"OK you guys. I don't want any more trouble from you
two today. Tom will be taking you to the Nursery this
afternoon and I shall see you tonight. I don't want to
hear that you have misbehaved or I shall be on the
warpath."

Two little faces turned towards the older man and
replied, almost in unison.

"OK, Martin. We'll be good today."

Tom smiled to himself as he heard the two responses
and then waited while his lover got his things
together ready for work. Martin returned to the
kitchen and kissed both boys and then Tom before
leaving the apartment and heading towards the nearby
Underground Station.

At Scotland Yard, Martin met with his new assistant,
Sergeant Mike Rickwood, and told him that they would
be going to Greymount College as planned later that
morning. The young sergeant was pleased that the visit
to the College was still going ahead as it gave him a
respite from the routine office work and driving the
Superintendent to his talk would be a great change. In
addition Mike knew that Greymount College was an all
boys school and he would get the chance to admire the
attractive bodies of the older students while his boss
was talking to them. Mike smiled broadly when he was
reassured that the lecture had not been cancelled and
said to Martin,

"I'm glad it's on, sir, it'll make a bit of a change.
Chief Inspector Jamieson rang in a few minutes ago to
say that they are still expecting us and that he is
waiting for the post mortem report on the dead man and
he hopes to have that by the time we arrive."

Good. Thank you, Mike. I suggest we leave in about 30
minutes, just give me a short time to check through
what I want to say and then we'll be off."

"Yes, sir. I come back in half an hour."

Meanwhile at Greymount College, Mark Jamieson was
starting to piece together the sequence of events that
preceded the discovery of Lawrence Miller's body in
the basement of a disused and out of bounds tower in
the College grounds. From discussions with various
parties he had ascertained some basic information
about the victim's movements prior to his death.
Raymond Collinson, the House Master of Marston House,
had informed Mark that he had recently returned to
duty following the birth of his second child. The
House Master had offered Lawrence the Saturday off as
a token of his thanks for his assistant doing so well
in looking after the dormitory during his absence.
However, Mr Collinson was unable to say how Lawrence
had spent his day off, as he had not seen him that
Saturday but had assumed that the teacher had gone
back to his flat in London. The first that the House
Master knew of his assistant's absence was when the
House Captain, Paul Ferris, had reported to him that
there was no-one present to supervise the Sunday
morning breakfast. Raymond Collinson then continued
his narrative,

"I was rather annoyed as I had not expected to return
to work until Monday and had given up Saturday as a
gesture of good will. Sunday was also the day of the
annual cricket match between the College team and the
Parents, a nice gentle warm up game. I was expected to
be around to talk to parents along with the Principal
and other House Masters and hoped that poor Mr Miller
would be available to run the House for the day. I was
not initially concerned and thought that maybe
Lawrence had had a late night at that I would get a
phone call from him to say that he would be back in
College very soon. I did not immediately inform Mr
Scott-Brown, the Principal of the problem because I
did not want to cause trouble for a teacher with such
a promising future. However, by the time of the start
of the cricket match I was torn between the needs of
the dormitory and those of the parents and had to
explain what was going on to Mr Scott-Brown. I could
not ask the House Captain to play a greater role in
the dormitory because, as you may know, he is the star
player and the captain of the cricket team. I spent my
time from Sunday lunchtime between trying to make
contact with Mr miller and entertaining parents. It
was only after the cricket match was over and there
was still no sign of, or work about, Lawrence that I
became more concerned and agreed with the Principal
that we should organise a discrete search. I got most
of the senior students, other members of staff from
the College and their senior boys and we agreed to
thoroughly scour the whole of the grounds. We did the
main buildings first and then spread out across the
rest of the College grounds. I can't remember who
suggested that we look in the tower, but when we did,
we discovered the poor man's body. I immediately
informed Mr Scott-Brown and together we informed the
Police."

Mark nodded and said,

"Thank you, Mr Collinson, a very full account and a
very distressing set of circumstances. Please accept
my sympathies. Please try to remember who suggested
the tower as a possible place to search, it might be
important, although at the moment it looks like a
terrible accident. I assume the man had no reason to
take his own life?"

Raymond Collinson shook his head violently and
exclaimed,

"Absolutely none that I can think of, no."

Mark accepted this confirmation of his own impression
but then added,

"However, I do have two other questions. First, why
would Mr Miller have been near the tower and why would
he have gone into a building that was known to be
dangerous and out of bounds to staff and students?"

"In answer to the first question, it is a pleasant
walk through the woods and down to the fields and
river beyond and as I don't know when he died it may
be that he decided to use that route to the pub
sometime on Saturday. As to the second question, your
guess is as good as mine. Chief Inspector. If I was to
hazard a guess I'd say that it is possible that he saw
something or thought he saw something and went to
investigate. The tower is used, I am led to believe,
by the odd illicit student smoker and possible
Lawrence saw one and went to intercept him. In the
darkness he stumbled into a room in the tower and trod
on one of the many very weak boards on the floor and
crashed through to his death. "

Mark nodded as the House Master gave his speculative
account but the Chief Inspector felt that the
explanation was an unlikely one. If a student had been
present and seen the teacher fall he would surely have
gone for assistance despite the trouble he himself
would have been in. Nevertheless, the detective
decided not to pursue the matter,

"OK, thank you for now, Mr Collinson. You've been very
helpful."
The Chief Inspector next turned his attention to Mr
Scott-Brown. Despite his outward appearance of
friendliness and the ready smile, Mark regarded the
Principal of Greymount College with considerable
dislike. It was not just his natural prejudice against
private education in general and boys only boarding
schools in particular but also the belief that beneath
the rather false smile Mr Scott-Brown was a cruel and
not particularly likeable man. In addition, the
principal had a pompous way of speaking that annoyed
the Chief Inspector.

"Oh Chief Inspector, what a tragedy this is. Poor Mr
Miller, such a promising teaching such a future ahead
of him, taken from us so suddenly. Yes, indeed, a
great loss to this College and to the teaching
profession. The students loved him. We shall all miss
him terribly. I have spoken to his poor family, they
are as devastated as we are."

"Indeed so, Mr Scott-Brown", Mark finally got a word
in, "May I ask you about the events leading up to the
finding of the body?"

"Yes, although I must say my knowledge is pretty scant
and I doubt if I can offer any further information to
that which you have received from Mr Collinson. He's
devastated as well, you know, as are the students in
Marston House. Yes, well, I became aware of Mr
Miller's absence just at the start of the lunch before
the College versus the Parents cricket match was about
to start. Mr Collinson told me about Lawrence's
absence and I agreed that he should try to locate him,
discreetly, of course but at the same time act
normally with the parents. When the match was over and
they still had not found any clue to Mr Miller's
whereabouts I agreed to a search of the College. The
rest you know Chef Inspector and as soon as I could I
informed the local Police and you arrived to
investigate. It seems like a tragic accident to me."

"First indications seem to confirm that, Mr
Scott-Brown but we will have to have it confirmed by
the autopsy. Tell me, did Mr Miller have any reason to
kill himself and, if not, why would he have been
anywhere near the tower?"

"I can think of no reason why Mr Miller would take his
own life, everything he was doing was going so well
and as far as I knew he had no personal problems or
worries. I think he went into the tower because he saw
something suspicious and went to investigate. We do
have trespassers and a small number of incidents of
vandalism on College grounds, so it's possible that he
saw someone he did not think should be there and went
after them with the tragic results we all know about."

Mark again thought that the explanation lacked some
degree of plausibility but accepted the comment for
the time being and indicated that he had no further
questions.

"Well Chief Inspector, if you'll excuse me I had
better go and prepare myself for the visit of an old
friend of yours I believe, Superintendent Martin
Roberts. I hope you will join us, if your
inquisitorial duties permit you to do so."

"Yes I'm very much hoping to hear him, Mr Scott-Brown,
although I may be called away and, in any case, I see
him and his partner and their children quite often.
They are family friends as well as Martin being my
former boss."

"Good, good, I'll look forward to seeing you later
then."

Mark turned away and started to walk back towards the
tower thinking that he had not really got the fullest
picture yet of the last hours of Lawrence Miller's
life. The Chief Inspector wanted to see whether any of
the students at the College had any information but
the general feeling among the staff that they should
hold off from talking to the young students until they
had come to terms with what had happened. Mark looked
at his watch and realised that Martin would be set to
arrive very shortly so he hurried on to the tower to
have a final look around before he made his way back
up to main College building to hear the superintendent
give his talk. Mark hoped that he might ask Martin to
appeal for information at the end of the lecture.

One member of the audience for Martin's lecture was
Paul Ferris who had run through a wide range of
emotions since the previous Saturday morning when he
had first discovered that Lawrie Miller was to have
the day off duty. The young student had expected to
have a message from his teacher arranging a place and
time for them to meet for sex. Paul had been greatly
disappointed when he did not receive any communication
and discovered that the House Master believed that his
assistant had probably gone to London for the day. Mr
Collinson had also told Paul that Lawrie was expected
to be back on duty the following day. Paul had decided
to go to the cricket nets that morning to have a short
practice before lessons began and also he intended to
meet Peter Fowler at the old score box. Peter had been
appointed the College team scorer for the year and
Paul wanted to explain to him how the scoreboard
operated. The young cricketer had recruited a couple
of friends to bowl to him and had gone off to the
nets, telling Peter to meet him there after about
thirty minutes. The net had gone well and some of
Paul's frustration at missing Lawrie was expended in
some lusty hitting. As expected, Peter had arrived and
Paul had taken him off to the score box to show him
the ropes. Once inside, the older student made his
intentions perfectly clear and began to feel the
younger boy's genitals through his thin trousers.
Peter leaned back against the score box wall as his
older friend gently caressed life into his small but
growing cock. The younger boy had just begun to
respond by feeling Paul's obviously hard dick through
his cricket whites when the older boy stopped him for
a moment and said quietly,

"Hold on a minute, Peter, I know a better place where
we can really get down to a good session. Stay here
out of sight and I'll go and check it out."
The younger boy nodded enthusiastically and Paul
opened the door of the score box carefully and then
closed it again behind him. The older student went off
in the direction of the disused tower, but quickly
returned to the score box when he saw someone he did
not recognise walking on another path towards the
tower. On re-entering the score box, Paul whispered
softly to his waiting friend,

"Sorry, it's not safe out there at the moment but it's
OK in here, provided we're quick and quiet. Is that
OK?"

Peter who had been nursing his cock all the time he
had been waiting for Paul to return nodded his
agreement and the older student quickly unzipped the
younger boy's trousers and released his cock which was
very hard. Paul began to wank the younger boy with
long strokes exposing and covering the head with each
movement. On a whim Paul leaned forward and took the
exposed and sensitive head of Peter's cock between his
lips and began to suck the boy's cock into his mouth.
Peter gasped and wanted to cry out in his excitement
but remembered the warning the older student had given
and so bit his lip. The effect of Paul's oral assault
on the younger teen's cock was almost immediate and
Peter began to fire his cum onto the older student's
tongue and down his throat. Paul lapped up the hot
young sweet tasting spunk and did not allow a drop to
be lost as the younger boy's natural impulses took
over and he worked his cock in and out between the
older boy's lips. When the jizz had finally stopped
flowing Paul released Peter's cock and looked up
smiling at his new young friend, who grinned back at
him and said, quietly but excitedly,

"Wow!! That was awesome!! I never had that done to me
before. It was fantastic!! I'm glad I'm team scorer
this year if this is what I get as a reward!!"

"Well, maybe most times, especially if we win, peter.
Now I think you need to attend to me!!"

Peter quickly released Paul's straining dick from the
confines of the older student's cricket trousers and
proceeded to demonstrate that his wanking skills had
greatly improved since their first meeting. Peter was
also tempted to take Paul's cock into his mouth but a
she had never sucked a dick he was a bit wary. Instead
he leaned forward so that his face was very close to
the rampant dick and wanked it hard. Within a few
moments, Paul was ready to fire his ball cream and
Peter aimed the throbbing dick at his own face and
received a volley of creamy cum sprayed over his face,
nose and lips. Tentatively, Peter licked the spunk
from his lips and found that the taste was OK. He
tried to get more into his mouth and Paul, seeing what
the younger boy was doing, scoped some onto his
fingers and fed it into the randy young teen's mouth.
When they had fully recovered, Peter whispered,

"Next time, I won't be so scared and I'll have you cum
in my mouth. I made me hard again!! Hand on let me
wank off a second time!!"

Paul watched as the younger boy used his hand to bring
himself relief and saw the creamy ball cream shoot a
short distance before falling onto the floor of the
score box. Paul smiled and said,

"Next time, we'll go to somewhere quieter and safer
and where we can get totally undressed and then I'll
have both your loads and you can suck all mine!!"

After they had made themselves respectable again the
two boys had carefully opened the door and left the
score box then they had returned separately to the
main College buildings for the start of morning
lessons. The rest of the morning went quite well for
Paul and in the afternoon he met with the College
cricket coach, David Graham, to finalise the team for
the game against the parents. Later in the afternoon,
Paul and the team had gone to the cricket field for
some more practice. Paul was still disappointed that
he had had no word from Lawrie but was equally excited
about the start of a new cricket season.

Annoyance at Lawrie's absence continued on the Sunday
morning when it was clear that the assistant House
Master was still absent from the College, a fact that
seemed to annoy Mr Collinson as well. Any concern as
to why Lawrie Miller was not around was subsumed in
the excitement of the preparations for the cricket
match against the parents, which was due to start a
lunchtime. The game was normally a nice easy season
opener and Paul played well in his innings and got a
good score and, as expected, the College team got a
large total. Paul was dismissed towards the end of the
innings and went back to the pavilion where he chatted
to another member of the team, Bobby Marsh. Bobby was
the last man to bat for the College team but was a
powerfully built and fast opening bowler and Paul
indicated that he wanted to talk to him inside the
changing room while the bowler got ready to go out to
bat.

Paul and Bobby were old friends even though Bobby
lived in College House, a rival dormitory to Marston
House. They two teenagers had both been involved in
the gay group that had met in the tower several years
earlier. As Bobby got himself ready to bat he showed
no signs of inhibition as Paul watched him, indeed the
young fast bowler was more than happy for Paul to have
a good look at his fat cavalier dick and balls. Both
boys knew that their dicks had grown bigger since they
last had sex together. Paul smiled an appreciative
acknowledgement at Bobby's little show as the teenager
gave the limp cock a friendly squeeze. However,
neither boy took the matter any further as there were
too many people around and, in any case, the sounds
from the field indicated that another wicket had
fallen. Bobby hurried to get ready to bar as Paul
continued to chat to him,

"By the way, I think we ought to try to revive the old
`tower group' again before we leave the College, don't
you? Our young scorer, Peter, is an enthusiast for sex
and he'd be a very useful additional member of ant
group we could get together and I'm sure you must know
a few lads in your House who'd be willing to join in."

Bobby grinned broadly and replied,

"I was thinking much the same thing myself, Paul,
let's talk tonight after the game. It'll be quite
difficult given that attitudes have changed recently
but I'm sure we can manage something and it'd be good
to have a session with you again, I've missed your
expertise as a sex partner!"

Before he could properly reply to Bobby's remark, Paul
noted another sound from outside and indicated that it
was now Bobby's turn to bat so the two friends left
the changing room. As they walked into the bright
sunlight, Paul said,

"Whatever happens we must try not to let that College
tradition disappear."

The young cricket captain was slightly startled to
hear a nearby voice calling out,

"And exactly what tradition is that, Paul"

It was the College Principal but Paul recovered
quickly from the surprise and replied,

"Oh the College's cricket tradition, sir. We've had a
good side for the last three years. Bobby and I want
to ensure that the new players in the team this year
carry on our successful tradition."

"Sound thinking, Paul. Let's hope you succeed. Your
team seems to be setting a stiff target for the
parents to try to get. I think you'll win again this
year."

"So do I, sir." Paul replied, with a laugh as Bobby's
short innings came to an end.

Both the Principal's and the cricket captain's
expectations were fulfilled and the College team
easily defeated the parents. However, the shine was
taken off the victory for Paul by the news that Lawrie
Miller was still not back at the College. By now there
was an air of anxiety as well as annoyance among the
staff members and concern among those students who had
been told about the teacher's disappearance. Paul had
joined in the search for the missing teacher but had
not been near the tower when the body was found. When
he heard the news the young student was devastated but
managed to keep a brave face in front of other people.
He had spent much of the Sunday night in bed unable to
sleep and alternating his mind between happy memories
of sex with the teacher and devastation at his loss.

Although most people already knew, the Principal had
officially informed the College of the death of
Lawrence Miller at an Assembly on Monday morning. Mr
Scott-Brown had informed the assembled College members
that the Police believed that the teacher had met an
accidental death, but that if any student or staff
member had any further information, they should
contact either a House Master, the Principal or the
Police. The Principal told his audience that, in the
meantime, the College would function as normally as
possible. With this in mind he announced that the talk
on policing in the modern world to be given that
morning by Superintendent Martin Roberts would go
ahead as planned. Thus it was that Paul, like a large
number of other shocked and distressed students, was
sitting in the main hall listening to a quite
attractive but rather elderly policeman talking about
his chosen subject.

Martin was sensitive to the situation and began his
remarks with a few words of sympathy to College
members on the death of a well-like teacher. He
further pointed out that such activities as this was
just one of the many roles that the police had to
perform in modern society but then continued to give a
highly entertaining account of life in the modern
police force. At the end of the talk, Martin sought
questions but there were few forthcoming, which was
understandable under the circumstances. The Principal
rescued the situation by bring the meeting to a close
and suggesting to the Superintendent that he might
like to join himself and a selected few other guests
for lunch at the Principal's house. Martin gratefully
accepted and asked about Mike Rickwood but the
Principal told him that he had already organised for
the Sergeant to have lunch with one of the other House
Masters. Although slightly upset at his favourite
officer's treatment, Martin accepted the proposed
arrangement and was pleased to note that his friend,
Mark Jamieson, was included in the lunch party. The
group walked over to the Principal's house and were
just enjoying a drink before the meal when the Chief

investigation.
