Country Love
Chapter Seven

"I saw him in the club, Andy" said Steve feeling he was now able to tell
Andy what had upset him.

"Who is he" asked Andy totally puzzled.

"It was Craig Johnson, my ex, he has haunted me ever since I left him after
catching him in bed with another man, when I came home early from work one
day" said Steve.

"I thought leaving Manchester, I would escape his stalking and threats, But
he is here, oh Andy what am I going to do" sobbed Steve as his emotions won
through once more.

"First of all, what do you mean what are we going to do! Steve we are a
team." Stated Andy.

"Yes I know Andy forgive me, but it is unfair that I bring you into my
mess" Steve continued sobbing. Andy felt a little bewildered, until now
Steve had been the stronger one and more self-confident.

"Steve, I'm here because I want to be here, because I love you," said Andy
who was now becoming emotional himself.

"Yes but Andy he has threatened to hurt anyone that I am involved with,
which puts you in danger." Replied Steve.

"So, I will have to be careful, has he attacked anyone or just threatened
to attack?" asked Andy.

"Just threatened, but I haven't really seen anyone since him until I met
you" replied Steve.

"Ok, well he doesn't know where you live or work, so that's a start isn't
it," stated Andy trying to calm the situation.

"I suppose so," replied Andy as his tears dried up once more.

"But he defiantly saw me as he walked into the club, oh shit he might have
followed us Andy he might be outside waiting" Steve spat out almost
hysterically.

"I doubt that Steve, he wouldn't be so obvious. I think we have a lot of
things on our side, and in the morning we will go to the police and report
his threats" said Andy more as a matter of fact then asking.

"We won't let him spoil our life and future together Steve" added Andy.

They both cuddled up and drifted peacefully into sleep. Neither of them
awoke until the morning sun shone brightly through the thin curtains to
illuminate the room.

Andy was the first to wake up, and gently he got out of bed being careful
to not wake Steve in the process. "The extra sleep would be good for
Steve" Andy said to himself, also noting that he could do with a few
minutes to think about what they would do about Steve's ex. Andy was now
having second thoughts about going to the police, thinking doing so might
out him.

"Andy you love the man, you must do all that you can to protect him and
yourself," Steve was saying in his mind, whilst sorting breakfast out.

"Morning Hun" Steve said as he stumbled into the kitchen, the suddenness of
Steve's appearance made Andy jump back to what he was doing after drifting
into deep thought.

"Oh morning love, I was going to bring breakfast to you" said Andy as he
placed the tray on to the kitchen table and sat down opposite Steve to
enjoy a full English breakfast. After breakfast Steve jumped into the
shower, then they both headed for the nearest police station.

Their trip was less then helpful, the officer that took Steve's statement,
did not take the threat seriously and both Andy and Steve thought he had a
negative attitude towards them because they were gay.

"I can't believe how bigoted that copper was," commented Steve.

"I know it's 2005 and we are still frowned upon, no wonder so many young
gay men try to commit suicide, when we are constantly being made to feel
ashamed of who we are" added Andy, who himself was afraid to be open about
his sexuality for that very reason.

After calming down they decided to wait and see if Craig Johnson did come
and harass them as looking at things a little more logical in the light of
day, he did not know where either of them lived or worked, and they could
quite easily avoid the gay scene as neither of them were really into the
scene anyway.

Monday morning both men returned to work with the weekend events behind
them, the week continued un eventful until Wednesday evening when they had
arranged to meet an estate agent for a viewing of a two bedroom
semi-detached house near to Andy's office, which was in the west Darlington
area, the more exclusive side of the town.

"Hi Steve, is she here yet" asked Andy expecting the Estate agent to
already be there as he himself was best part of 20 minutes late due to
heavy traffic. Just as Steve was about to say no, a red escort pulled into
the drive behind Andy's car that Steve had been using for the day after
dropping Andy off at his office. They had made that arrangement a few
weeks ago as Steve had free parking, but sometimes needed a car to go to
certain clients houses, where as Andy's work place didn't have any parking
spaces and he didn't really need the car other then to get to and from
work.

"Hello Guys" said the young woman that got out of the car.

"I'm so sorry I am so late" she added as she straightened up her clothes.

"That's Ok, Andy has just arrived himself and he only works round the
corner," replied Steve with a smile.

"My name is Clair, well as you can see the property is modern only around 6
years old, the neighbourhood is respectable. There aren't massive gardens
to take care of, though you have the advantage of a garage and a long drive
for parking," said Clair as she opened the front door and waved the two men
in.

"This is the living room, which is a nice size without being to big through
there is the dining room and to the left of the dining room is a nice
fitted kitchen with all the modern appliances fitted." Continued Clair

"Wow French windows leading onto a patio" Andy stated with enthusiasm, as
he always wanted the view that he saw through the French windows, a
beautiful lawn looking onto the country side as the estate was on the very
outer boundary of the town. Andy had always envisioned himself
entertaining a small circle of friends in such a setting.

"Great isn't it" piped in Clair.

"Yeah I've always wanted a house just like this," said Andy almost
bewildered.

"I can understand that, it is what attracted me to buy a house at the other
end of the street" explained Clair.

"And as most of the houses are two bed roomed they have attracted young
professional couples like yourselves" added Clair without realising she had
made it know that she realised that they were a couple.

"Are we that obvious" asked Steve as they made the way out of the house
after viewing the rest of the rooms.

"Lets just say I know the signs" she smiled and winked at the two men.

"What do you mean?" asked Andy naively

"Well put it this way it takes one to know one" she smiled and winked
again.

"Shit no, I'd never have had guessed" replied Andy as they all started
laughing.

"Well guys I will phone in the office and tell them that you will be in
first thing in the morning with the deposit and first months rent, and as
soon as the credit checks come back you can have the keys. It should be no
later then the weekend" explained Clair.

"Thanks Clair" said Steve

"Yeah thanks Clair, oh and will you come to our house warming party," asked
Andy

"That is very kind of you, I'm sure I can persuade my better half to come
along, she likes raves" giggled Clair teasing Andy.

"I'd never have guessed that Clair was gay, would you" asked Andy as they
drove home.

"No me neither, but she is a character isn't she" replied Steve.

"Yeah she is, oh I'm so excited about the house Steve, I can't wait to get
moved in" stated Andy.

"Me either, but we do have an obstacle to overcome Andy"

"What's that?" asked Andy puzzled.

"What are you going to tell your folks"?

"That's easy I'm moving in with my hubby and we're gonna make mad
passionate love all day everyday" Joked Andy.

"No I will just say your wanting a house mate and it would save me having
to drive to work everyday" added Andy.

"Yeah I suppose that should do the trick, though I'd have loved to see your
parents faces if you did say the first bit," laughed Steve.

"Oh Steve where have you been, you have opened up my little world so much,
I'm so lucky to have you in my life. It feels like a dream, and if it is I
never want to wake up from it," said Andy in a daze like fashion.

"Where did all that come from?" asked Steve as they entered the village.

"It is just how you make me feel Steve, its wonderful" replied Andy.

"Well I guess this prince charming wont get to kiss sleeping beauty,"
laughed Steve

"Hey maybes a peck on the cheek" winked Andy.

"As I believe it has to be on the lips to wake sleeping beauty" Added Andy
laughing.

It was obvious to Andy's parents that he was exceptionally happy, and they
wondered what the reason was, no one approached the subject at dinner, but
just as they all settled down in the living room Andy looked at his
parents.

"Mam, dad I know this is a bit sudden but, I am moving out." Said Andy

"Moving out? Why where" asked his mother all in one breath as she had a
habit of doing, especially when she was concerned about something.

"Hay calm down Mam, over this weekend probably, Steve decided he wanted to
live in Darlington, and we went to look at a place tonight, it was a little
pricier then he wanted so we agreed to share the rent, and the best thing
of all is it's just round the corner from my office" Andy explained. The
conversation continued for another twenty minutes or so until Andy's Mam
was satisfied that Andy was going to be ok, and that he would still visit
at least once a week. His dad didn't say much about the whole issue, but
thought it was a bit rushed. But both were also happy in a strange way
that their son was moving on in his life, besides they were looking forward
to having their house for themselves again.

The paperwork on the house was sorted two days later. Then Andy and Steve
decided that they would move in the following week to allow them to go
shopping for furniture and other essentials such as pots and pans. They
agreed to hit the shops that weekend. As planned they took a visit to Ikea
where they shopped till they dropped, they both liked the modern Ikea look
and bought most of their furniture there, including a lovely dark brown
soft leather sofa, they decided to buy two double beds to avoid awkward
questions from people that didn't know that they were in fact a couple.
They didn't need wardrobes as both bedrooms were furnished with fitted
wardrobes.

They took time out halfway through the shopping, and decided to have a meal
at Ikea's café, it was Andy's favourite café, and he loved the Swedish
style meatballs in caramel sauce. As they ate their meals they spotted
several obvious gay couples.

"I thought that was just silly jokes about gay couples being everywhere in
Ikea shops" laughed Andy.

"Man, Andy you have a lot to learn in the gay stakes, we gays are so much
more creative, I wouldn't be surprised if Ikea is secretly owned by a gay
man" replied Steve laughing.

After finishing their meals they took their trays to a trolley and
continued their adventure round the Ikea store, selecting different items
from pictures for the living room to what type of dinner set they wanted,
which became a sore point as they both liked the same set but both wanted
different colours. After spending a good ten minutes trying to decide,
Steve noticed another set that had both colours, the cups lime green with
yellow diamonds and the saucers were yellow with lime green diamonds and so
on.

"Oh Andy lets get this one, its perfect" said Steve

"Yeah it has both colours too" replied Andy excitedly as he went and put a
box on their trolley. By the time they had finished in Ikea they were so
tired that they decided to head home, dropping their purchases off at their
house before they went back to the village.
