               Angel in Black, Chapter 5
                   Surprise Addition

"DAD! You can't," Alex started to protest.

Bill cut him off. "If you're going to be living here, you are probably
going to need a few things from your house right?" he asked.

"Umm, yeah I guess so," Marcos said surprised.

"Dad? What are you saying?" Alex asked confused.

"Well Alex, Marcos here has not only saved my life, but yours and
Tommy's, and he has been here watching us all for a long time now. Marcos
has been a part of this family for a while; I think its time he finally
joined it. Besides you did just ask if he could live with us ... or did you
forget?" Bill explained.

  "I... um ... I," Alex stammered.

"And now that the two of you know exactly how you feel about each other,
I don't think I would be able to keep you apart even if I wanted too," Bill
added.

Alex was blushing a deep red when he finally said, "Thank you, dad. I
don't know what I would do if Matthew had to leave again." He then hugged
Bill again.

"I have to go home and get a few things; I will be back soon." Marcos
then went to get his coat and hat to leave.

"Matthew, wait up!" Alex called out. 'Please, can I come with you?' Alex
thought.

'Not right now Alex. My house is probably being watched and I don't want
anyone to see you with me,' Marcos replied.

'Won't they be able to see you?' Alex asked puzzled.

'Nope!' Marcos winked at Alex then kissed him gently on the lips. 'I will
return soon,' he thought then he left.

***

"Matthew, wait up!" Marie heard as Alex had gone to catch
Marcos. "William, are you sure about this?" she quietly asked.

"Marie, how can you ask that? Marcos has done nothing but good for this
family. I think he has earned our respect and our love, and after tonight I
would rather he was closer to us all," Bill said to his wife.

"Will," Marie started but was cut off.

"AND I don't know about you but these last few years I think Marcos has
really become part of this family too," Bill said just as Alex came back
into the room looking a little disappointed.

  "Will," Marie started again.

"Marie," Bill said, trying to cut her off again.

"WILLIAM DAVIES! I love you but can you SHUT UP for a minute? I agree
with you about everything," she snapped at Bill.

"You do? Then what is it?" Bill asked confused and surprised at Marie's
tone.

"Aren't you forgetting something?" she questioned.

"I don't think so," Bill said, thinking.

"Marcos is a VAMPIRE!" Marie said a little sarcastically.

"I love him," Alex added his voice barely above a whisper.

"Well I don't see how that's a problem here Marie; he has never done
anything to hurt us. I could never imagine him harming Alex. Look at Alex!
What do you want me to say... no?" Bill said.

Marie looked at Alex; he looked like he would cry again at any
moment. Then she looked back to Bill. "No!" she said walking to Alex. She
hugged him then said, "No, I can't do that to Alex. Marcos never has harmed
us, and I don't think he would either," she added.

"Mum?" Alex asked with a questioning look at Marie.

"You really do love him don't you sweetie?" she asked Alex. He only
nodded in reply, "Okay, then! Marcos can stay," she decided, as Alex hugged
her tightly back.

  "Where's Tommy?" Bill asked.

***

Marcos had left the Davies' house and was a few houses away when he heard
Tommy calling out to him with his mind, 'Marky wait for me?' Marcos was
using a cloaking spell, so he knew Tommy couldn't see him.

'What's wrong Tommy?' he projected, still not letting himself be seen.

'Where are you? I need to talk to you,' Tommy thought.

"Turn around," Marcos said that right behind him, causing Tommy to almost
jump out of his skin.

"Shit, Marky! I hate it when you do that!" Tommy exclaimed, trying to
catch his breath.

"What's on your mind, Tommy?" Marcos asked with a grin.

"Don't you know already?" Tommy inquired.

"No. I stopped freely reading yours and everyone else's minds a while
ago. I thought talking the traditional way would be better. Now I just keep
my mind open for any thoughts directed towards me," Marcos explained to
Tommy.

"Oh okay..." Tommy looked at his shoes and thought a moment. "Marcos,
thank you for helping Alex," Tommy said, then paused.

'Marcos? Tommy hasn't called me Marcos in years,' he thought to himself.

"I just felt so helpless ... like when I was with dad," Tommy sobbed. "I
couldn't do anything to help Alex. I mean sure I can help him in a fight; I
even taught him how to defend himself. But this, I couldn't do
anything. None of us could!"

"Tommy ... you weren't there! You didn't know what Alex went through. I
wish to god that I had been there a few moments earlier, maybe then I could
have stopped it, but again I was too late!" Marcos said.

"What happened to Alex?" Tommy asked.

"Tommy, I'll tell you, but you have to tell Alex. He's not as well
trained as I am in reading minds.... He could read that you know in a
glance and it might upset him again. Promise me you will tell him and that
you will be there for him too," Marcos asked him.

"I promise, Marcos! I'm always going to be there for him... and for you,"
Tommy vowed.

Marcos was caught off by that; no one in fifty years had said that to him
not even the consul all those years ago. "Tommy.... I ... I don't ... thank
you," he stammered, and then he hugged Tommy. It might have looked pretty
weird to anyone looking out into the darkness; a young man standing in the
street having a conversation with himself. "Tommy you have no idea how much
that means to me," Marcos spoke softly into Tommy's ear.

"Marcos it's the truth! Like it or not, you're like a brother to me,"
Tommy said.

Marcos released Tommy from their hug and continued to speak. "The night I
first met Alex Davies I was very hungry. That's why I was out there - I
was hunting for a meal. It had been a while since I last fed, and I was
drawn there by the malicious feelings coming from someone."

  "Jordan!" Tommy realised.

"Yes Jordan was what brought me to Alex. When I got to the cold dark
alley behind the mall complex, it was already too late.... I was too late
to save him. I found Alex crying on the ground and Jordan going through
Alex's small backpack," Marcos explained.

  "No," Tommy sighed.

"I read both Alex's and his attacker's minds. Alex was too young to
understand what happened ... but, Jordan, he knew exactly what he had
done. I was ready to kill him for what he had done, not only to Alex but at
least a dozen other boys around that age, including his own brother."

"What did he do to them?" Tommy whispered, unsure if he really wanted to
know the answer.

"Jordan raped them. He wasn't gentle about it either. Some of the boys he
had attacked died from their injuries. Alex was lucky, but he was injured
and in great pain when I found him. I helped him to heal much like I did
with Bill tonight," Marcos whispered.

"What did you do to Jordan?" Tommy asked.

"I wanted to kill him! But I didn't, for Alex. I thought he might want to
get some closure someday, and it turns out I was right. Once I had seen
what Jordan had done and I decided I wasn't going to kill him, I used some
magic on him," Marcos quickly moved behind Tommy then gently touched the
back of his neck, then stepped back in front of Tommy.

Tommy tried to speak, and then projected, 'MARKY! Help ... don't ... I'm
scared,' starting to panic.

Marcos quickly moved and undid his spell. "I'm sorry Tommy. I wanted you
to know what I did to Jordan. That's exactly what I did. Jordan's body was
paralysed; he couldn't do anything. Then I scared him like I scared you
when you bullied Alex, though I didn't hold back at all. I just hope you
never have to see how truly demonic a vampire can look. Jordan thought he
was about to die," Marcos smirked.

"Please don't do that again, Marky. I can understand how being paralysed
and face to face with a vampire could scare him. I just saw your face
sharpen a little and your fangs, and it scared me half to death," Tommy
said.

"Well, it gave me time to help Alex," Marcos began again. "So I healed
Alex. He was in shock. He couldn't speak, and his mind kept calling out
for his parents. So I used a little magic and made him sleep. I couldn't
stand it! I was singing a lullaby to Alex in his mind while he slept. That
seemed to calm him down, and the nightmare he was living in his mind
faded. Then I convinced Jordan to confess what he had done to ALL his
victims to the police, and I went and called the police."

"What about Alex? You didn't leave him with Jordan?" Tommy asked.

"NO!" Marcos exclaimed. "Not that it would have mattered if I had. Jordan
was still paralysed. No, I carried Alex in my arms the whole time. When the
police arrived, I took them to Jordan and released the spell on him. The
first thing he did was beg them to save him from the scary vampire. I just
laughed and said I didn't know what he was talking about. Then I explained
to the officers what Jordan had done and that I had caught him just
after. I used a combination of the memories from Alex's mind to tell the
officer what Jordan had done to Alex. I explained that I had some
experience working with children who had been attacked in the same manner
and that allowed me to get Alex to tell me what happened. They seemed to
believe it and took my statement. Then I went and found Bill and Marie and
gladly gave them their son back."

"Then Jordan was taken away by the police?" Tommy asked.

"After Bill and Marie talked to the officers, yes he was. It was that
night I swore to always protect Alex and never let anything like that
happen to him ever again. I didn't know then that we would find you, or
that I would fall in love with Alex," Marcos finished.

"I don't know how anyone could call you a monster. Okay, you scared me
the first time I saw you, but since then you have been nothing but a good
person to me and Alex and our family. We all love you Marcos," Tommy said
as he again hugged Marcos. "I think it's great that you are going to come
live with us! We all miss you after you visit. Especially Alex after you
leave. He jumps around like a little kid saying how great it was to have
you over," Tommy added.

"You better get back home, Tommy. They are starting to wonder where you
are. I'll see you when I get back," Marcos said, shooing him off.

"Shit! Yeah I didn't even tell them I was going anywhere. See you later
Marky," said Tommy as he turned to run back to the house.

Marcos continued on to his house. The walk wasn't long. He could have run
and got there a lot quicker, but he didn't want to. Marcos was thinking
about the night's events, recalling in detail what had just occurred.

***

The pain Alex went through as he relived the memories his mind had
suppressed was enough to have Alex crying out with his mind. Marcos was
cradling Alex the whole time as he shook with the fear of what
happened. 'He can never hurt you again Alex, I won't let him. You need to
move past this, or it will always dominate your life,' Marcos thought to
Alex.

'Why did he do it Matthew? Why did he choose me to do that too?' Alex
asked, crying.

'You were just there Alex, lost and alone! You were an easy target for
him!' Marcos explained in his most soothing voice.

'Matthew, I need to see him.... Jordan. I want to know for myself why he
did that to me,' Alex whispered.

'I thought back then that you might want to get answers from Jordan
someday, Alex. That's the only reason he is still alive!' Marcos answered.

'Alive? What do you mean alive?' Alex asked.

'I was going to kill him, Alex. After I saw what he had done to you and
all the others, even his own brother, I almost tore his throat out.' Marcos
looked away from Alex feeling ashamed.

Alex squeezed Marcos tighter to him, 'You did all you could to help me! I
couldn't help myself and there wasn't anyone else there to help me! I don't
know what Jordan was going to do to me. You saved me from him, Matthew!'

'Don't you see? I was too LATE! I was too late before, and I was too late
to save you!' Marcos almost screamed with his mind.

'But you were there, you might have been a moment too late to stop Jordan
but you helped me. You took me back to my parents and helped put away an
evil man so he couldn't hurt anyone else. You're my hero Marcos... my
angel,' Alex thought, missing the extra meaning in Marcos' statement.

***

Tommy got back to the house to find Bill, Marie and Alex sitting on the
couch talking. 'Tommy where did you go? We were worried!' Tommy heard
Alex's voice in his head.

'I went to talk to Marky and to thank him.' Tommy thought. 'Alex I know
what happened to you, how Marcos helped you. I want you to know I'm here if
you ever need me,' he added.

  'Thank you Thomas,' Alex replied.

Tommy walked in and sat on the couch next to Bill and joined the family
hug. Bill then asked, "Is Marcos okay?"

"Yeah dad, he is. I think there is something more behind why he helped
Alex all those years ago. But he won't say yet. Thank you for letting him
stay here," Tommy said.

***

Marcos arrived at the small house he had rented and immediately went on
alert. The front door had been forced open. Marcos was still invisible so
he wasn't worried about anyone seeing him, but he could still be heard if
he wasn't quiet. His fangs were out and the razor sharp nails on his
fingers resembled claws, so he was ready for what ever was there.

Marcos walked quietly around the house and looked through the windows but
couldn't see anyone inside. That didn't mean there wasn't anyone there
though. He let his mind wander trying to sense anyone in his house. He
found someone in the bedroom and another person in the bathroom just off
the bedroom; it seemed they were going to try to ambush him.

He went back to the front of the house and went inside. He sensed that
the man in the bedroom was a human, but the man waiting in the bathroom
wasn't. He wasn't a vampire either.

Marcos went through the human's mind searching for any information that
could be useful. He found nothing, as the man was just a lackey, which
annoyed Marcos. He tried to read the mind of the other man but couldn't, at
least not without giving himself away.

Marcos realised that the human was obviously bait for him. The other man
would come after Marcos as soon as he heard the human scream. That
wouldn't happen. Marcos tricked the human into thinking that the bedroom
door was still closed. He quietly opened the door and walked into the
room, where the man was watching the door anxiously. As far as he was
concerned the door was still closed. Marcos walked behind the man and
touched his neck, he was paralysed. He then went and stood beside the
bathroom door; Marcos controlled the human's mind and made him scream.

The other man came running out of the bathroom and saw his companion
standing with a blank look on his face. "What the," the intruder started
to say.

Marcos was angry. He hadn't seen another like the creature that was
standing before him in half a century. Marcos dropped his cloaking spell
and went into action. "Thylacine!" Marcos growled in disgust. Before the
man could react Marcos leapt toward him and slammed him into the bedroom
wall, holding him there by the throat. "What are YOU doing here?" Marcos
yelled.

"You'll never get anything outta me, VAMPIRE! So just kill me!" The
werethylacine growled.

Marcos tightened his grip on the man's throat. "I intend to THYLACINE!
But first," Marcos said sinisterly, placing his free hand on the man's
forehead then pushed with all deliberate force into his mind....

***

The were tried to scream but couldn't make a sound. It felt like the
vampire had started a fire in his mind. He saw the fangs dripping with
saliva and the pitch black eyes, unfocused and glowing gold. The thylacine
thought for a moment that he could reach the stake in his pocket but
quickly realised he couldn't move. Now panic really set in.

***

  'MURDERERS!' Marcos thought to himself.  Marcos found what he needed;
these men were sent by the leader of the were-thylacines, the reason he has
been running for almost half a century. They were suppose to find out if
Marcos was actually here and dispose of him if they found him. "How long
have you been watching me?" Marcos asked calmly.

"Long enough to know about the family you have been seeing," the creature
growled.

Marcos was now enraged. They had been spying on him and his family. "You
remember how I said I intend to kill you?" the creature still unable to
move just blinked, "Well," Marcos said, in a blink of an eye releasing his
control on the man's mind and tearing the man's head from his body, "I keep
my promises."

Letting the now dead man fall to the ground, he muttered a spell and the
body burst into flames. Marcos then realised that the other man was still
there in the room paralysed. He hadn't fed in a while....

Marcos left the house with a small bag containing the few things he
owned. He was once again under a cloaking spell as he ran away from the
burning house. Marcos was still angry; he would make a call to Calvin the
next day. Right now he needed to get back to his family... to Alex.

Marcos ran back to the Davies house. He heard the sirens heading towards
his house as he ran. All the police would find were the charred remains of
a human male. Maybe the thylacines would think he was dead....

***

Alex and Tommy were watching a movie on TV, while Bill and Marie were off
doing things around the house trying to get ready for Marcos coming to stay
with them. Alex and Tommy were comfortably cuddled up on the couch watching
their movie when Alex suddenly tensed up. "Alex what's wrong?"

"Matthew is coming back, but something's happened!" Alex anxiously said.

Suddenly there was a knock at the door and Tommy was up in a second to
answer. 'Marky is that you?' Tommy thought. He mentally heard, 'Yes it's
me!'

Alex heard it too, he knew it wasn't Marcos. "Tommy, it's not Marcos!
STOP!" he yelled as he ran to the door, but he was too late to stop Tommy
from opening it.

"Tommy NOOO!" he screamed as he pushed Tommy out of the way.

Tommy looked up from the floor where he had landed after Alex pushed him
out of the way. What he saw horrified him. Alex stood with a short sword,
something like a Japanese Tanto, run through his chest. "ALEX!" he
screamed.

"THAT WAS A MISTAKE!" Marcos growled. He then muttered a spell under his
breath and the vampire in front of him started to scream. The screaming
stopped and the vampire seemed to collapse in on himself then turn to
ash. Within seconds the vampire was gone.

  'Matthew,' Alex thought.

  "Marcos, HELP!" Tommy cried.

Marcos looked at Tommy cradling Alex, the sword still embedded in his
chest. "Alex, hold on!" he said. Marcos then quickly knelt down beside Alex
and told Tommy to go tell Bill and Marie what happened. Marcos then
searched Alex's body and found that the sword had pierced his heart. Alex
would bleed to death long before an ambulance got there.

'Alex can you hear me?' Marcos asked.

'Matthew, it hurts so much,' the boy's mind screamed in agony.

'I know baby. Your heart has been damaged. You are going to bleed to
death,' Marcos thought crying.

'I don't want to die. I finally have you in my life, I can't go now,'
Alex thought.

'Alex there is something I can offer you,' Marcos said.

'Please Matthew help me,' Alex begged.

'I'm going to pull this out, your going to bleed out pretty quick. Just
try to drink when I tell you to,' Marcos said. 'I love you, Alex,' he
added.

'Matthew,' Alex started but was cut off by Marcos removing the sword from
his chest. "ARGHHH!" Alex screamed then he started to fade into
unconsciousness.

Marcos cried as everyone else came into the room. "Alex is dying," he
said.

  "Call an ambulance!" Marie cried.

"It wouldn't matter! He'd be dead before they got here!" Marcos cried.

"But you saved me! Surely you can save him?" Bill said.

"I can't fix a pierced heart, Bill!" Marcos spat.

"Marky, it's okay! We are all here for you and Alex. What are you going
to do?" Tommy said.

Marcos looked at Alex's closed eyes and wept, "I'm going to turn him," he
said sadly as Alex's blood started to make a large puddle beneath them.

  "WHAT?" they all asked, shocked.

"I'm going to turn him into a vampire. Before any of you tell me I can't,
remember that he WILL die if I do nothing!" Marcos exclaimed.
