Chapter 6

Gary didn't bother to change there was no time, where had Ben gotten to;
perhaps he could pick up a fresh sent in the lobby. Turning Gary noticed a
note attached to the door it was from Ben; in his haste to read it Gary
nearly tore the note. The note read

Gone out be back soonish

It was signed; Gary tore it up in frustration reminding himself that Ben
had not known of the threat.

Ben looked over at his mate they were sat at a park bench, Jerry had wanted
to leave the apartment apparently it was making him feel a little
uncomfortable. The other two had joined them however they had wondered off
a bit to give the pair some space. Jerry seemed to be a bit on edge, which
worried Ben a bit, for what was perhaps the first time in his life he
regretted not learning more about his gift. Ben knew that his sister could
tell an individual's mood by touching them, a useful trick; she also told
him that she could read surface thoughts with the same touch if she chose
to.

Jerry looked at his mate, he couldn't help but smile, Ben was cute
especially when he smiled, which he wasn't doing at the moment. At the
moment his mate was frowning, "What's wrong"? The question had left his
mouth before he had finished thinking it. Ben smiled shyly, which gave
Jerry a warm feeling, "I was just thinking the same thing", Jerry looked
away, "I'm guessing it has something to do with your pack, as your clearly
still a part of your pack", Jerry nodded, "are you worried they won't
except us", Jerry laughed and shook his head, which made Ben smile more.

"No my pack will accept us much as yours I should imagine, it's only humans
that seem to have a real problem with our relationship that I've noticed",
Jerry grinned and pulled his smaller mate closer to him. "Then what you
seem concerned about something"? Jerry nodded his head, it was true, and
the problem was he didn't know how to tell his mate that he was the Alpha
Elect of his pack. In the end he just blurted it out, after he finished
Ben just sat there quietly processing all of what Jerry had said.

Ben had been expecting a lot of things, but to find out that Jerry was an
Alpha Elect was not one of them. It was a relief to know that Jerry's pack
wouldn't reject them, which was what Ben had been expecting. Ben lent
forward and kissed his mate, he could feel the mate bond growing, and it
gave him a sense of belonging and being loved like never before. Ben now
understood why bonded mates craved each other so much the feeling that the
bond created was intense.

Linda got off the phone with her mate, the news was not good and for Ben to
be missing, and once more she cursed herself for not forcing Ben to learn
more about his gifts. She also cursed their mother where ever she might
be, what she had done was not fair to Ben, their mother had excluded Ben
from the world of a sorcerer by not having him train as she had forced her
daughter to. Linda sighed the mistakes of the past would have to wait the
council meeting was about to begin and if she wanted her father to know
what had happened she had to act quickly.

Linda entered the council chamber, all of the old pack homes had one, there
were six Alphas not all of them had their Alpha elects with them however
all did have their Betas. Linda bowed her head slightly to her father
before speaking her father nodded acknowledging the gesture. Linda had
always been rather blunt when there was a problem and this instant was no
different. "Alpha there is an issue that has come to our attention that
needs to be dealt with quickly", her Alpha looked a little surprised Linda
usually called him father. "Can it wait the meeting is about to begin",
Linda shook her head, "No and we need to inform the Western Pack Alpha, it
involves his elect". Linda was relieved to see her father nod, he walked
over to the other Alpha who nodded his head, and in very short order the
meeting had been postponed.

Linda waited until only the two Alphas and their Betas were left, Linda
bowed her head to both again, "I do apologies for the necessity of
postponing the meeting however it has come to our attention that there is a
group targeting magical crosses, such as myself or a vampire mage". The
Western Pack Alpha began to protest, Linda moved on quickly before he
could, "I understand that the Western Pack has no Wolf Mages in it
officially". All four men were now looking at her expectantly, "Due to the
recent mate bond forming between one of our pack and your Alpha Elect
things have changed". Linda could tell her father had already put two and
two together, to his credit he didn't let it show on his face. "Linda
would the Western Packs Alpha Elect by bonded to your brother", Linda
nodded.

Linda was happy to see that the other Alpha and his Beta didn't look
surprised at their elects preference for men. "What else Linda"? Linda
looked at her father not surprised that he already knew there was more.
"Well it appears that Gary has lost them before he could tell them, on the
plus side Gary informs me that Rick and Steve are with them". The Western
Pack Alpha looked troubled; Linda thought his name was Damon. Damon turned
to his Beta, "Get hold of Rick and Steve", the Beta nodded and left. "Will
your man be able to find them if something happens", Linda looked at her
father before she spoke. "If they get taken Gary isn't the best person to
rescue them he is a mage himself", Damon nodded his understanding.

Rick answered his phone; he was surprised to hear the Betas voice at the
other end, "Rick you need to get Jerry and his mate to a safe place". Rick
was confused to start with however as he listened he understood the issue,
he was nodding his head in understanding even though the Beta couldn't see
him. Rick hung up and started to walk back to the pair explaining things
to Steve, "Sorry to intrude Alpha Elect however an issue has come up, we
need to return to the apartment". Jerry was surprised he turned to Ben and
shrugged, there was no real reason for them to remain in the park. Rick
once more explained the situation to his Alpha Elect, as Ben listened he
started to feel worried about being away from his pack for the first time
since he had come to Brisbane.

Gary paced the apartment he had just gotten off the phone from Linda who
had told him that Ben was returning to the apartment with the others. Gary
settled in front of the computer in the office and looked through his
emails; he was looking more for the sake of doing something to stop his
pacing. Gary opened an email from one of his contacts in one of the
American packs; the email told him of a sorceress who had been working in
the area of their pack matching the description of Linda and Ben's mother.
It did not however give any indication that the sorceress had been turned,
Gary didn't reply immediately he needed to let Linda know first before he
took action. Gary reread the email before closing it thinking on how much
it had upset both Linda and Ben when their mother had up and left not a
week after returning Linda to the pack. There was a knock at the apartment
door; Gary entered the living area approaching the door cautiously, he had
lived in this apartment in the past and never had there been a knock at the
door.

Rick and Steve entered the apartment first; the door had been ajar, which
had surprised Ben, who had hung back with Jerry. The blinds had been
pulled down so the apartment was dark, the first thing the pair noticed was
the smell, it was like burning flesh. Neither was ready for the attack,
suddenly from the darkened room a vortex of flame washed over the pair.
Jerry felt it as his pack mates were killed he changed before Ben could
stop him, Jerry charged into the apartment. In the back of his mind he
noted the blackened corpses of his pack mates however his focus was on the
five people who stood around Gary's still form.

Jerry hadn't made it far into the apartment when one of the men grabbed the
chain net that had been covering Gary. Jerry could see the burn marks that
had been caused by the net all over Gary's body; clearly the net was made
of silver. Jerry knew that silver wouldn't kill him but it hurt like hell,
Gary must have passed out due to the pain. The man threw the chain met
obviously intending to capture Jerry, Jerry managed to dodge it and went
for the man's jugular. Normally Jerry had more control of his animal
instincts, however after the death of his pack mates he was seeing red and
wanted vengeance. He managed to incapacitate two of the men before a third
hit him with a wall of air that threw him clear across the room.

Ben watched Jerry from the doorway he had not shifted, he saw Gary and the
other two, he was scared and as his entire pack knew he wasn't much of a
fighter preferring to run away at the first sign of conflict. Ben could
feel the pain that Jerry was suffering; it was this pin that marked a
change in Ben. Always in the past he had depended on others to protect him
and now his mate needed him, his mate needed him to stand and fight.

Ben drew on the raw power that he knew he had inside him, he glared at the
remaining three men and let loose with the power he had gathered inside
himself. The five mages that had intended to capture Gary and Ben were
stunned, but only for a moment as wave after wave of Ben's power washed
over them. The power cut into the men like daggers, shredding them until
they were nothing more than bloody mess upon the floor. Ben realized that
he had made a mistake; he couldn't turn the power he had unleashed off. In
his fear of hurting his mate he tried to draw it back into himself even
though he knew it would kill him. Ben looked at Jerry who silently shook
his head, tear streamed down both of their faces, Ben mouthed the words I
love you. The last he saw of Jerry was him struggling to get out of Gary's
arms trying to get to him; he silently thanked Gary for protecting his
mate.

Linda sat up suddenly, she had been sleeping on a lounge in the rooms she
was sharing with her father, her father looked over at her questioningly.
Linda felt pain and sorrow, and she felt it from Gary something was wrong,
something was very wrong. "They are in trouble", she didn't have to
explain further her father knew, as an Alpha he would be able to feel some
of what was going on also. "Go to them", Linda nodded once and vanished.

Jerry cursed the fact that Gary was bigger and stronger than him, he
struggled vainly to get to Ben, "Don't be stupid he wants you to live".
Even though he could here and understand what Gary said, Jerry still wanted
to go to Ben. The space in front of them shimmered and a woman appeared,
she wasn't what you would call a tall woman, and she was slender but curvy.
Her long hair was a match for Ben's, she looked over her shoulder at Gary,
this was clearly his mate Linda. Jerry could feel an almost instant
connection to her, it was the same as he felt toward Gary, which was
something he had been ignoring.

Linda was horrified by what she saw, a sorcerers magic as all magic was
connected to emotion, and it was clear that Ben had given his all into
saving his mate. Linda smiled to herself softly it wasn't too late she
could save her little brother. She took a step toward Ben and began to hum
a silly little tune that her mother had once hummed to them both. Linda
didn't know why it made them calm but it had always done so. As she got
closer she reached out to Ben and took him into her arms, due to her
training and knowledge she was able to gain control of Ben's power in ways
her brother could not. "I'm so sorry Benny I should have forced you to
learn, if I had we would not be here", Ben looked at his sister and smiled
at her. "I was always a difficult student and unwilling to learn".
