Rachael stood in front of the five boys. All had declared their desire to
protect the Key Greg. Rachael knew that the boys had not known what the
consequences of their actions would be. "Gentlemen I cannot allow you to
leave the island". She held her hands up for silence before the five could
protest. "I understand you all want to go and make sure that Greg is
fine. However if any of you had stopped to think you would realise how bad
that would be". Pete wanted to protest, if he was honest with himself it
was for more than one reason. The other four all wanted to make Pete
happy. And to their way of thinking the fastest way to make Pete happy
would be to have Greg there with them.

Si listened to what Rachael had said. He looked at the others sadly, "I'm
sorry Pete she right. If an ancient dragon could come and talk to you
another would have told Richard the same thing. So Richard would be
waiting for us to turn up somewhere to retrieve the Key". Rachael looked
to the heavens and thanked any gods that may have existed for the
intelligence of Si. Pete glared at Si and then pouted. It was clear that
he understood what Si had said. "So what do we do about Greg", Jim asked
calmly. "You do nothing Fifth Nichole and her circle will watch him for
the time being", Rachael responded. "So what do we do now", Bren asked
clearly impatient with the talk and wanting to get started.

"You will all go into some intensive training. It is clear now that you
are all too powerful to be left unguided. Thus far you have already
resurrected someone from the brink of death. Do I need to explain how
difficult that normally is?" The boys mutely shook their heads. Jim
frowned, Rachael waited for him to ask what he had thought. "What exactly
is a Key? I understand that you said they are the only ones who can open
the way into the temples. But what are they, I mean they aren't Fifths and
they aren't Elementals. So what are they"? Rachael smiled it was clear
that all the boys were smart and willing to learn at least. She had
worried that they would be difficult to teach after the incident with the
first year exams.

"A good question Jim and one few now days would ever think to ask. The
reason being that shortly after the Guild was formed it became frowned upon
for a Key to be created. Prior to the Guild a Key or Keys were often
created. Can any of you think of a reason as to why." The five boys sat
silently thinking. Pete answered first, "Five isn't an even number it
lacks balance in a circle. If there were six the balance would be better".
Rachael nodded indicating Pete was correct. "Balance is important however
there is an even more simple answer". Jim giggled and he smirked looking
at Pete. "It's so that the Fifth can have a partner without causing
disharmony in the circle". Pete blushed, he was well aware of the sexual
tension that had been forming around him since he stopped spending time
with Greg. "Still that doesn't explain what a Key is", Bren grumbled.

Rachael looked at the five all of who were watching her attentively. "A
Key is the beginning of a new line of Elementals". The boys were stunned,
and sat quietly waiting for Rachael to go on. "As you all know every
Elemental and Fifth family can trace their origins back to the founding of
the guild". The boys nodded. "The reason it was decided by the Guild to
stop the creation of Keyes is simple. The normals had started to notice us
and were beginning to actively hunt and kill elementals". The boys were
not surprised to hear this. It was common knowledge to them that many of
the religious groups had actively tried to eradicate Elementals and Fifths.
They had done since the fall of many of what are now called the pagan gods.

"So what you are saying is that the Guild was formed for two reasons. To
protect circles and to help organise us into a group that can protect
normals from Elemental spirits and creatures". Rachael smiled at Si and
what he had just said. "More or less that is the main function of the
Guild", Rachael responded. "What of these artefacts, would it not be best
if we just leave Greg as he is and not seek out these artefacts". Rachael
was surprised as were the others at Pete's suggestion. Rachael knew that
would not be possible. "I'm afraid not, it's only a matter of time before
Greg starts to show the powers of a Key and then Richard will try to take
him". Pete sighed. He had still had a small amount of hope the mess could
all be avoided. "How long do you think we have"? Rachael looked at the
defeated expression on Pete's face. "Six months at least no longer than a
year". The boys nodded they knew what had to happen.

.........................................................................

Five months later.

Si sat calmly in an air stream. He recalled how hard he had found this the
year before. The year before he had only been able to sit in the air
stream. Then all his focus had been on maintaining altitude and balance in
the air stream. Now he sat calmly playing the flute. Very few people knew
that Si played an instrument and none knew just how well he played. That
is none except Pete, "You know I think Jim would like to hear you play".
Si looked down at his little Fifth who had a naughty smile.

Before Si could react Pete had disrupted the air stream. Causing Si to
drop suddenly. Si caught himself just before he hit the ground. "Peter
you little shit", Si shouted as he chased after his very fast Fifth. Pete
knew it was only a matter of time before Si caught up with him. One of the
skills of an Air Elemental was speed. Pete was also very fast however he
was still shorter than Si, knowing this Pete knew Si's longer legs would
catch him.

Pete spotted Jim and headed toward him. Running up to Jim and hiding
behind him Pete managed to gasp out. "Protect me Si is out for blood".
Jim could see his boyfriend catching up fast. Jim shook his head, "I don't
think so, not until you explain what you did". Pete got an overly innocent
look about him. "Nothing, I can't believe you my most talented and caring
Elemental would imply". Jim laughed and held onto Pete. "Save it little
one", Jim held Pete tighter and grinned at his boyfriend.

Pete looked around and then grinned. "Hold him he's up to something", Si
puffed he was a bit out of breath. Pete looked down and focused on the
hard packed dirt they were stood on. He quickly loosened it to something
like sand. Smiling he added a lot of moisture. He then shoved Jim who slid
in the mud. As Jim put his arms out to catch himself he realized exactly
what Pete had done. He had created a kind of quick sand. "Si Don't", Jim
didn't get his warning out before Si slide and started to sink. Pete
laughed, Si and Jim felt a quick flash of heat go through the quick sand
mud substance they were in. Pete had dried it out so it was rock hard
again.

Pete smiled at his two Elementals he was stood calmly in a small air
stream. He laughed and blew the pair kisses. He also took off again at
top speed knowing his little trap wouldn't hold them long. "I'm thinking
he's been given an assignment", Si grunted as he hammered at the hard dirt
he was encased in with a focused air stream. Jim nodded his agreement as
he stood up having softened the ground around him with moisture. "Do you
think he would have gone to Bren or Derik next", Jim asked. "Bren, he was
headed toward the beach", Si responded. The pair took off in pursuit of
their Fifth.

Pete knew that Si and Jim would have realised that he had been set an
assignment. He knew he had a little more time with this part of his task.
He approached Bren quietly and sat down next to his Fire Elemental. "What
you doing"? He asked more as a distraction than anything else. "I was
sketching. However I'm wanting to know why Jim and Si are agitated at
you". Pete grimaced he had not factored in the others sharing emotions.
"Maybe they are agitated because I won't put out", Pete said slyly. Bren
laughed, "They get enough from each other. What are you up to"?

Pete tried to look innocent, "Don't trust him", Jim called out. Pete
frowned in irritation. He had not expected the others to get out of his
last trap so soon. "Bother", he muttered as he sped up the process of
drawing the heat out of the sand around them. "Pin him down", Si yelled as
he and Jim ran up to the other pair. Bren more or less rolled over pushing
Pete down and pinning him with his body. Pete grinned up at Bren, "I guess
you're the top then", he said seductively as he rubbed against Bren. Bren
was startled by Pete's actions and felt his dick go hard. Pete smiled
again and then kissed Bren fully on the lips. To say Bren lost it would be
an understatement. It was also a dirty trick on Pete's part. However it
worked Bren was distracted long enough for him to escape.

Pete encased the three in a sphere of ice sand and air. He knew that it
would hold them for between ten and fifteen minutes. It would take Bren
time to build up the heat to melt the ice as he had removed much of the
warmth from the area. Jim couldn't help with the ice it's self the only
thing he could do would add to it. What the three didn't realize was the
sand. The amount of heat that Bren would use to melt the ice would turn
the sand to thick glass. There wouldn't be enough moisture left for Jim to
help and the sphere of air would interfere with Si trying anything from the
outside.

.........................................................................

Derik watched as Pete approached him. He could sense that the others were
in trouble. Pete appeared panicked and something else. Pete rushed up to
Derik, "Derik you have to come quickly the others are in trouble, I need
your help". Derik took off after Pete although there was still something
off about Pete.

"Bren stop, that's no longer ice". Jim ran his hand over the rapidly
cooling glass. For the first time he truly appreciated just how smart Pete
was. In the past he had over looked the fact as had the others. "Clever
little shit isn't he, knew exactly how we would react", Bren grunted in
frustration. Si tried to focus on an air stream outside of the sphere.
"He wrapped it in a tight air stream. It's going to take time to get past
it". Si gracefully sat in the centre of the sphere and focused.

"I can disrupt the air stream can you see anything else", Pete asked as
they approached the sphere. Without thinking Derik approached the spheres
that contained his friends. He could feel that they were all warning him
about something. Pete felt it as well, he tried not to let the others
reaction effect him. He could tell they were pissed.

Pete let the sphere of air drop. He watched as Derik bashed at the thick
glass with his enhanced strength. Pete hesitated for a moment and then
finished what he had started. "Elemental encasement", he whispered
releasing a Fifth power. The four turned to their fifth and were stunned
as they felt their fifths power. Pete watched as each of his Elementals
were cut off from their element for a short time. The hardest part was
feeling his bond to them sever. Pete looked at their horrified and upset
faces. He did the only thing he could think off he ran off not ready to
face them.

.........................................................................

Two hours earlier

Rachael looked at Pete after she had told him of his newest assignment.
Pete looked pale and upset. "Pete if you do this you will have finished
the training that we provide here. The last test for a circle is
essentially to see whether the circle will reform". Pete nodded he
understood what he had to do however he didn't like it. "What about Greg"?
Rachael had her own concerns about what the test would do to Greg. She
didn't voice them there to Pete. "He isn't at the moment truly part of
your circle. So it shouldn't affect him too much". Pete knew Rachael was
not telling him everything. In the end Pete agreed to go ahead with the
test. Rachael's parting words to him were very simple, "You need to sever
your ties to your circle without telling them why you're doing it. If you
tell them the exam is failed". Pete nodded his understanding.

Nichole found him in an unused class room. "I here you are to take the
final today". Pete nodded. Nichole pulled him into a tight hug. Pete
couldn't help it he cried. Nichole sat with him as had her mentor when she
had, had to take the test. "I'm sorry little one it is this way for a
reason". Pete pushed away from Nichole a bit. "What possible reason could
there be for putting us through such a thing". Nichole understood where
Pete was coming from. To break apart your own circle was like losing part
of yourself. "It's all part of the connectedness within the circle. There
may come a time in the future when your circle is forcible broken. The
Guild just needs to know you have the strength to come back together.

Pete nodded understanding what Nichole was telling him. Jack and Dan
entered the classroom. They saw Nichole holding Pete. Pete was not the
only one crying now. Nichole was reliving the time she had, had to do what
Pete was about to face. "Alice and Rob are in our rooms Dan said quietly".
Nichole nodded and handed Pete to Jack. Nichole knew that she was of no
real use to Pete at the moment the separation from her own circle was had
been a difficult one. Jack held the sobbing Pete and Dan rubbed his back
in comfort.

.........................................................................

Six hours later

Pete sat in the little formal garden that he had found in his first few
days on the island. He watched the water in the fountains splash and the
little fish swim. His head was bowed as silent tears dripped into the pool
of water. Pete had not felt this alone since he had created the bond with
Derik. This test made him think of Tim and Darrel. He missed them all so
much and he missed Greg.

Tiff watched her friend. She had never thought to be on the island so
soon. However the High Fifth had summoned her. Tiff could see that Pete
wasn't in a good way. He seemed worse now than when she had first met him.
"You know math homework is a lot harder this year", Pete looked up at the
sound of Tiff's voice. "Tiff, what are you doing here"? Pete asked wiping
his eyes. Tiff smiled at Pete, in the year and half she had known him he
hadn't changed. "I came to see you obviously", Pete tried to smile but
couldn't. Tiff pulled him into a hug, "Now are you going to tell me what's
wrong". If anything Pete's shoulders slumped further. He had been
instructed not to tell anyone who hadn't done the test about the test. "I
can't not yet anyway", Tiff accepted that she had suspected that Pete
couldn't talk about it.

"In that case I have an even more important question are you ever going to
grow up". Pete looked away and shook his head. "According to everyone I'm
as old as I'm getting sixteen to the day I die". Tiff wasn't surprised she
had always known that Pete was powerful. "I've been working on it though
with relatively limited success. Many of the Fifths have developed a way
of appearing a bit younger. The reverse doesn't seem to be that easy".
Pete shrugged, there really wasn't a lot he could do about it. "So no
shaving for you", Tiff giggled, "Or back hair". That got a smile out of
Pete.

..........................................................................

The other four sat in the rooms they had been sharing with Pete. Bren was
pacing around the living area frustrated and angry. He hadn't felt this
bad since the day Pete had formed the circle bond with him. Derik stopped
his boyfriend and held him in a tight embrace. None was more surprised
than Bren when he started to sob into Derik's big chest. "Why, why did he
do it"? Si and Jim joined the others trying to comfort Bren. They all
felt a little lost and empty. None had realized just how much their little
Fifth had meant to them.

Si wiped his eyes and tried to think the problem through logically. They
knew that what Pete had been doing was an assignment or test. The question
was, was the test Pete's or theirs. Si groaned as it occurred to him what
Pete had been assigned to do. Jim felt the shift in his boyfriend's
emotions and looked at him questioningly. "We have forgotten who is hurt
by this the most", Bren instantly felt anger. "Why should we think about
him, he's who did this for no reason"? Si understood where Bren was coming
from. However he felt that Pete would have a reason.

"Then we should go talk to him", Jim said calmly. "He must have had a
reason". Bren calmed a little and let the others drag him to where they
were sure Pete would be.

.........................................................................

Tiff saw the others coming first. "Well it appears to be time that I
left", Pete looked over to where Tiff was looking. He hugged her, "Thank
you for being here". Tiff hugged Pete tighter, she missed having him
around. "Always little one, I will always be here for you". Pete smiled
up at the now taller girl, "You're stunning Tiff", he said as way of
parting. She smiled and gave him a flirty wave.

Pete watched Tiff leave and the others approach. He saw the sad confused
expressions. It was Bren that he wanted to go to first it was clear that
he had been crying. Pete watched them and waited. "Aren't you going to
say anything?" Bren demanded. Derik pulled his boyfriend into a hug. Pete
nearly lost control of his own emotions as he saw Bren crying. Derik was
now glaring at him, it was clear that he was angry with Pete. "All we
really want to know is why", Jim asked. Pete wanted to explain, but knew
he couldn't yet. Si watched the emotions cross Pete's face. "He can't, or
he won't", Si muttered.

The four looked at Pete, who hadn't said a word. Pete forced himself to
calmness before speaking. "I'm sorry I can't tell you why. All I can say
is that it had to happen and I hope you can all forgive me". Pete's
shoulders slumped and he looked down at his feet. His untidy hair falling
around his slumped head. "That's not good enough Pete", Bren said harshly.
The others all made it apparent they agreed with Bren. "It's the best I
can do", Pete said looking up and at each of them. He could see the anger
and frustration on their faces as they turned and left him.

Pete watched his four Elementals turn away from him. Perhaps they were not
truly his after all. Pete had been so sure that they would understand he
couldn't tell them the reason why he had done what he had done. None of
the others turned around or saw Pete slump to the ground. None of them saw
the tears fall from his eyes. Pete had given them a cool calm attitude.
However inside he had been tearing himself apart.

..........................................................................

Derik watched as Bren slept. It was clear to him that the emotional toll
of the day had exhausted his partner. Derik left Bren and entered the
small room that Pete had been using. The room felt dead to him. Always in
the past he had felt Pete's warmth even when he wasn't there. Looking
around Derik noticed a small display of photos. He had always known they
were there but had not payed them any attention. The oldest showed Pete
and his brother with a young couple, Pete looked to be about ten. Derik
could see that Pete took after his mother in appearance as well as being a
Fifth. There was also one of three twelve year old boys. Pete was in the
middle of who Derik assumed were Tim and Darrel. Beside that one was a
photo of an older Tim and Darrel. There was also one of himself, Bren, Jim
and Si. The final one was of Pete and Greg at the formal.

Looking at the photos Derik realised that he couldn't stay away from Pete.
He didn't care why Pete had done as he had done. All he really knew was
that he wanted to be connected to his little Fifth again. Derik knew that
this was his choice and he knew the others may not approve. However stood
there looking at the photos of the people that Pete had already lost. He
couldn't and wouldn't add his own to it.

........................................................................

Pete had pulled his knees up and had his face pressed into them crying. He
wasn't sure how long he had been there. Derik crouched behind Pete and put
his arms around Pete's shuddering shoulders. Pete felt the strength from
Derik's arms. Derik gently pulled Pete up. Pete turned and looked Derik
in the eye. Derik smiled, "Will you have me back little one", he asked
softly. Pete nodded and sobbed into Derik's big chest. The little formal
garden filled with a pale light as Pete once more formed the circle bond
with Derik.

Derik tilted Pete's head up as he felt the bond form. He very gently and
passionately kissed Pete. Pete moaned and the pair felt themselves grow
hard from their shared sexual attraction. "Thank you Derik the test was to
ensure that the circle bond was truly a good fit. And the only way to test
that properly was to break it. Not many circles are asked to do it.
However the High Fifth said it was passable that at some point in the
future our bond may be broken by outside forces. So I agreed to do this,
I'm so sorry". Pete sobbed again into Derik's chest. Derik smiled down at
his little Fifth and was just happy he had that connection back with Pete.

...........................................................................

Si couldn't sleep. "Go talk to him", Jim muttered into his pillow. Si
looked at his boyfriend and thought partner was a better way of describing
them. Si knew that there was no one who knew him as well as Jim did. "I
will if you come with me". Jim sat up and looked at Si, a soft smile
forming on his lips. Si lent in and kissed Jim. "Should we ask the
others", Jim asked. Si shook his head. Jim frowned, "Why not"? Si
hesitated for a moment not sure how to respond. He knew how he felt about
it but wasn't sure how to put it into words. "I think it has to be our
choice. We have to choose to". Si didn't finish Jim pulled him into a hug
happy that his partner wanted to be in a circle with Pete.

The pair went to Pete's room it was empty still. Jim pointed to a little
plant on the corner of Pete's desk. Si smiled they both knew that the
plant hadn't be there before. "I'm thinking nature boy has already sort
our little guy out", Jim grinned. Si agreed Derik would have been the one
to leave the plant. It made the pair want to leave something there for
Pete as well. Si placed a USB that had a recording of him playing the
flute on it. Jim placed a swimming trophy next to the plant. Both smiled
at their gifts knowing that Pete would be the only one who would appreciate
them for what they were.

.........................................................................

Derik went in search of some food. He had managed to get it out of Pete
that he hadn't eaten all day. As he was heading toward the rooms he shared
with the others he saw Jim and Si. The pair were holding hands and clearly
headed toward the garden. "How is he"? Si asked, Derik shrugged, truth be
told he really wasn't sure. "You know the same as he always is, hiding the
pain and appearing normal". Si and Jim nodded. They had all see Pete's
happy nothing's wrong act. They all also knew that Pete carried a lot of
sadness with him. Most of it was connected to his parents and Tim and
Darrel. However lately, Greg had been part of it as well.

"You guys are going to reform the circle with him aren't you?" Derik asked
not sure if he wanted to hear the answer. Si and Jim nodded, Derik hugged
them feeling his own eyes fill with tears. "In that case he will be much
better soon". Jim and Si nodded agreeing with Derik's sentiment.

...........................................................................

Pete was sat on a bench waiting for Derik to return. He looked up from his
feet when he finally noticed Jim and Si. He tried to smile at them but
failed. Pete looked back down not able to face the pair. Si reached out
and tilted his face back up and smiled at Pete. "I understand you can't
tell us why. I don't like it but I can't stay mad at you". Pete looked at
Si hopefully. Si grinned, "Pete I want you as my Fifth now and always, the
last few hours have been pure torture".

Pete felt himself crying again as he jumped up and hugged Si. Jim watched
as Pete formed the circle bond with Si again. Like Derik Si kissed Pete
with the same effect. Jim watched the pair and felt the love between them.
Pete turned to Jim, who simply opened his arms. Pete didn't hesitate.
Derik and Si watched as Pete joined Jim to his circle. Not to be out done
by his partner Jim also kissed Pete. As they separated Pete giggled. Pete
was feeling a lot better. Three had come back to him after he felt he had
lost them all.

.........................................................................

Pete didn't wait for Bren to come see him. He knew that Bren would be too
stubborn to come to him. He also knew that it had been hardest on Bren.
Pete sat on the bed that Bren and Derik normally shared and looked down at
the sleeping Bren. Very gently he reached out and ran his and threw the
tangled mess that was Bren's bright red hair.

Bren woke feeling someone playing with is hair. He knew it wasn't
Derik. Derik very rarely touched his hair. Bren opened his eyes and saw
Pete looking at him. Bren felt his anger melt away seeing the sadness in
Pete's eyes. He could tell by looking at Pete that the others had already
reformed into Pete's circle. "I guess I'm the last one", Pete nodded.
Bren reached up and ran his own finger threw Pete's long silky black hair.

Bren pulled Pete to him, Pete didn't resist. Bren pulled his small Fifth
on top of himself. Pete lay there for a moment and then found himself
making out with Bren. Of all Pete's Elementals Bren was the most
affectionate. Bren sat up with Pete in his lap. He gently pulled Pete
shirt off revealing Pete's toned pale slender body. He also removed his
own shirt revealing his own well muscled tanned body. He wasn't as large
as Derik but was still well built.

Bren ran his hands over Pete's back as they kissed. Bren moved them so
that he was now lying gently on top of Pete. Pete smiled softly up at
Bren. Who lent in and kissed him again. Bren trailed kisses down Pete's
neck chest and stomach. He then undid the cargo shorts Pete was wearing
and gently pushed them down with Pete's underpants. Bren took Pete's hard
member into his mouth pleased at the sound of Pete's groans.

After sucking Pete for a time. Bren had lifted Pete's legs and using
plenty of lube had entered Pete. Pete watched Bren as he slide smoothly in
and out of him neither hurried nor slowly. Bren entered Pete fully once
more. "Pete please", he didn't finish as Pete kissed him. Pete held off
until he knew Bren was about ready to cum. As Bren shot into Pete, Pete
reformed the circle bond completing his circle once more. The others all
felt as the circle was completed and the orgasm felt by Pete and Bren. A
little embarrassingly the other three also felt their own release as well.
